Box Set
The guys in Corio Heights are all interesting people from different backgrounds. I love their different relationships with each other and with their boyfriends. The writing varies with many syntactical errors, and some stories are lacklustre, but overall, the series is fun. I love the game nights and the couple that holds them, Jason and Will, the best.
I received this ARC for free and am glad to give it my honest review with thanks.
New Neighbour-3 stars-Zack works helping restaurant businesses get set up or trouble shooting their issues. He has friends, a cat, but a family that disowned him.
Caleb is an anxious guy who doesn’t take chances and overthinks things. He works in a job he hates to support his loving family.
They meet as neighbours and feel a spark, but Caleb runs off and Zack doesn’t do relationships well. They become good friends, and Caleb shares his dream of having a bakery, which Zack shows him can become a reality.
They practically live together, and finally discuss their feelings and agree to figure out this relationship stuff together.
Sweet guys, Caleb comes out of his shell a bit and Zack finds a home with Caleb, they fit together like a puzzle.
Flirty Neighbour-3 stars-Scott and Ian are friends through Caleb and Zack, so Scott asks Isn for help to get healthy and lose weight, as Ian’s a personal trainer.
Scott lacks self confidence because his Mom belittles him, compares him to others, and makes him doubt himself. But Ian sees a sweet guy he really likes. Scott likes him too, and doesn’t get his attraction at first because he’s only dated women.
Once they kiss Scott sees that Ian is who he wants, and Ian feels Scott sees him, not the rich family he comes from.
They date, become boyfriends, and meet each other’s families. They have a rough time at a charity ball Ian’s family throws, but realize they just need to face their troubles together rather than apart.
I like Scott, a lovely man who finds his person in flirty Ian, and Ian’s willingness to risk falling in love after too many exes.
Forever Neighbour-4 stars-Will and Jason have been best friends since childhood, when they were neighbours living in a poor neighbourhood. They looked after each other, and Jason’s Mom was Will’s by proxy as his parents were addicts who were unavailable to him.
When Jason’s Mom died it affected them both deeply, and they’re stuck together to be each other’s person. But, Will developed feelings for Jason that he’s afraid to share, until his therapists recommend they go out more together. Jason clues in to Will’s feelings, and once they kiss, they’re fully into a new relationship full of romance.
But, it’s unhealthy because they’re codependent and can’t seem to be OK on their own. They even worry the other person will slip away somehow. An incident with Jason being jealous even when he knows there’s no issue makes them realize they each have issues from the past.
The therapist they see helps them work through the hard things that have traumatized them as children, so that they grow, apart physically but together emotionally.
A great read, this book addresses what romances often miss, too much togetherness. I found the therapist character portrayed well, which again, isn’t always the case.
Hideaway Neighbour-3 stars-After being apart for 2 years, Lucas returns to make things up to Noah. They’d seen each other on secret, but when Lucas’ grandfather found it, that was the end of everything.
Noah and his parents, who worked for Lucas’ family, all left, and Noah became a writer. Lucas worked for the company, drank a lot and was miserable, then finally started over.
He made it clear that he’d do all he could to get Noah back, and it doesn’t take much for them to reconcile.
When Lucas has to go away on business, this this time they stay in touch, and when Lucas’ grandfather has a heart attack, it changes his mind and he welcomes Noah to the family.
This was a sweet story of Cat and Mouse, the nicknames of the two who were always in pursuit of each other in some way.
Cocky Neighbour-4 stars-Liam is in charge of making some changes to the new hotel his family’s empire has acquired, but his demands are challenged by the manager, Eric.
Eric doesn’t like Liam’s high handedness, but does his best to work with him. The sparks are driven by both conflict and attraction, which neither man wants to give into while they work together.
They can’t resist each other for long, and move back and forth between pursuing and avoiding each other. Finally they agree to friends with benefits, but it’s already too late, they’re falling for each other.
When they agree to try a relationship, Eric explains his fear and Liam understands, but they both want the same thing, to be together.
