David Hunter and his wife are found dead in a small Yorkshire village. The apparent victims of a hit-and-run. They led successful and quiet lives, so police are stumped when looking for a motive.
DI Stewart Gardener and DS Sean Reilly have their work cut out, and soon some suspects a group of four closely connected individuals who are proving hard to trace.
Convinced this was not a random killing, the Leeds detectives venture into unknown terrain, the web of lies, fake identities and cyber crime called the internet.
But when one of the suspects in the investigation is identified and found, the police are dismayed someone else got to them first. Dying from a nerve agent, he won’t be much help to the investigation.
The race is on to catch up with all the persons of interest. But dealing with skilled hackers, who know how to move without leaving a trace, will stack the odds against the detectives.
Imposture is the sixth book by Ray Clark in a best-selling series. It can be enjoyed on its own or alongside the others.
The British Fantasy Society published Ray Clark's first work in 1995 - Manitou Man: The World of Graham Masterton, was nominated for both the World and British Fantasy Awards. In 2009, Ray's short story, Promises To Keep, made the final shortlist for the best short story award from The Tom Howard Foundation. Ray is based in Goole, and has set his Gardener and Reilly crime series in nearby Leeds.
A nice, solid procedural with believable investigating and an interesting crime. I like this series- this wasn't the most exciting installment, but it was good. Established writing, well-developed characters, good pacing. I'm not a huge fan of revenge dramas, but this one was nicely plotted. And I did get a kick out of the use of coulrophobia. My only minor complaint is, the killer was pretty clear right from their introduction. But yeah, enjoyable.
I hadn't read any of the other IMP books, so this as a first read was a pleasant surprise. It would be nice to get to know the team a little better, and the ending was surprisingly twist-less, but a recommended book all the same, a bit grisly at times but with some unexpected light hearted moments.
Don’t you just hate books that end on a cliffhanger? Another brilliant instalment from Ray Clark. Still stirring over their last case, the team quickly engage in another multiple murder. What could be the motive? Would really like to know where Ray gets his ideas from. Not sure if they’re brilliant or disturbing!! Absolutely fantastic read.
When police determine that a fatal hit and run is not a random attack, they act quick to trace those responsible. But someone else is getting to them first. Another great book in a fascinating, original series.
Another great story in the DO Gardener series and one that moves at a fast pace. Lots of intrigue and false leads with an exciting ending. I must admit I had someone else in mind as the likely culprit.
The brilliance continues with yet another gripping story from Ray Clark. As usual DI Gardener with his team have to work their way through all the twists and turns in order to get to the truth. I have to keep on reading this series.
These get better and better. Really interesting and dark at times and I just about guessed who was behind it all as it started to unravel. Hard to put down and read it in a few sittings
Another " unputdownable " book by Ray Clark. Bloody brilliant, Sheer class, Pure easy reading with all the ingredients for classic thriller. 10 out of a 10.
