Inheritance

Rate this book
It is the year 2158, and Hegemony has fallen.

But the Order, the one-world religion, remains . . . securely ensconced as the unseen power behind all human government.

Should any desire for truth be rekindled in the hearts of men, the Order stands ready to stamp it out . . .

The Seekers have spent generations in their secret quest for truth, keeping alive the knowledge- that once there had been a True Light, now lost to this darkly oppressive world.

Now, from the other side of the globe, word comes—there is a surviving copy of the True Text! Professor Reuel, Father Curtis, and Philip mobilize to save this precious relic, and the team of Keepers who have guarded it.

But the Order is intent on getting there first. And they have a head start.

What can a lone group of hunted revolutionaries do in the face of a massive global power like the Order? How can they prevail against such an indomitable foe?

And if they fail, how will humanity ever learn the truth about themselves, the Order, Creation, and Eternity . . . ?

The premise of this story is intriguing. What would happen in a dystopian society, where the totalitarian regime is backed by a state religion, if the Old Testament was found? Most of the story is taken up with the flight of the scripture-seekers, including a series of miracles, from demonic and human attacks. The parts I found most interesting, however, were the responses of people encountering the scriptures for the first time—the questions raised, the transformation that happens when you can’t go back to what you believed before. It’s a good reminder of how powerful and precious these documents are.

Inheritance picks up where Fragments left off, with them leaving to search for the portions of scripture they heard about. We see miraculous protection while Phillip and Thaddeus protect Jeremiah and the scrolls. Jeremiah is in the line of people who have been protecting the Fragments and also have great knowledge of the contents. They face great danger and receive help from unexpected places. The number of those seeking Creator God grows, including Lars. We follow him both in his search for truth and also as he strives to keepnthe business his family stewards profitable in a corrupt system. We also see Leif work to be able to provide quality lumber to his family's business and others at a good profit. The corrupt system hampers them both.
I will admit it was harder for me to read this installment in the series, especially with how it ends, that being said it isn't the end of the story and I want to see where it goes.

This story was a bit slow at the beginning but quickly picks up and doesn't let go. I had already read the first book in the series, so I already had reader expectations and understanding of the plot.

By chapter 19, I was getting chills. The way the world is woven with miracles and martyrs that mimic the bible and the history of the church is equal parts well-written and convicting. As a Christian, the almost prophetic plot feels like it could potentially happen before the end of the world.

I rooted for the characters struggling with their lives, the bad deals they made, and their faith while dreading the outcome of every decision and twist. Even as a member of the unholy order chases down our heros, I hoped he would also be convicted, growing sympathy for a man lost to untruth.

As the professor told Lars, "you cannot stop a seeker from seeking." This book makes me want to keep seeking this series!

“Inheritance” is a dystopian supernatural suspense novel that cranks up the tension in each chapter as a small group fights against the Order, which is cunningly relentless in its pursuit of those who defy its commands.

As the second book in The Seekers Series, “Inheritance” serves as a thoughtful exploration of what people will do when everything appears lost, except the truth of their faith which is being ravaged by the Order.

I highly recommended “Inheritance” if you enjoy supernatural suspense filled with people of courage and integrity in firmly gripping the truth.
