When Werewolves start turning up dead, drained of blood, the City’s Alphas turn accusing eyes on the Vampires. It doesn’t take much to get the newly-formed Werewolf Alliance riled up. But once Vampires start dying the same way it becomes clear they have a mutual enemy.
An unexpected visitor brings news that vulnerable supernaturals from neighbouring towns are also being kidnapped and murdered, and that the City seems to be the focus of the violence. With no idea of the motives behind the attacks, Gabi and the rest of the City’s defenders immediately commit to eliminating whoever, or whatever, is behind the bizarre and gruesome acts.
Adding to the chaos, demons suddenly attack in unprecedented numbers, stretching the City’s supernatural resources thin. The reappearance of an old foe from the Etherworld sparks fears that Mariska is back, still seeking revenge. And that once again she’s made powerful, dark alliances. When all fingers point to something hellbent on uncovering whatever secrets the City hides, eyes finally turn to the Magi.
A war will be waged for the greatest supernatural prize of them all, and the outcome is impossible to predict. Not even the presence of a powerful Princep and the shocking revelation of Julius’s true potential can assure victory for the pure of heart.
This time Gabi is determined to get Mariska in her crosshairs, and she’s ready and willing to even the score. But there is no guarantee that everyone will survive this trip to Hell and back!

82 points/100 (4 ¼ stars/5) Warning: Cliffhanger (Status: of fucking course. Why would I expect any different?)
Mariska is back, and she has brought with her some other black mages. There is also a visitor staying with Julius, the super powerful Benjamin. People are turning up dead, and the Source of power is on the line.
Have I said that I am addicted to this couple yet? Because, I definitely am addicted. I can't stop reading these. In To Hell and Back we have a new friend, some new powers, and an old enemy resurfaced.
In addition to the old friends we love, we have a new friend. His name is Mac, and he used to be a hunter like Gabi was, only he was solo. He is exactly what Gabi is looking for, for something. He is human, he already knows about the supernatural and the job. He is perfect, and he mixes in with the crew instantly! Interesting, and it shows Hannaford is looking for someone to add to this cast to do something related to the council, but it hasn't happened quite yet.
Also new to the cast is the cabal of dark mages, the "Dark Elite". They're old, and powerful, and are using Mariska. We see quite a few scenes from their perspective, but they don't really make much of impact on the overall story, I don't feel. They're a bad guy hiding in the wings, waiting for their time to make the most impact. Mostly, they're here to try to gain power of the Source.
Which is.. "the strongest pool of magical energy on Earth", the Source is new to us, with the last book. It came out of nowhere, and you knew where it was going instantly. This book is only the first that is going to deal with it. It is just about as you expect it would go. Honestly, the plot isn't exactly why I read these books. This one is especially predictable, though.
Julius also has some new powers this time around. In something as obviously thought up last minute as it appears, we learn that all along, Julius has been mage born turned vampire. And that Benjamin, the mageborn vampire Princep from last book, knew along without telling him for some bizarre reason. But, that is okay because he is going to stick around and is going to teach Julius what he needs to know now! This was obviously added in because Hannaford decided that she needed a character to match the new powers coming into her series. This wouldn't be such a bad thing if she actually went into developing this. Yet, it is always off in the background where we can't see it - and then Julius just comes back and is trained within a few pages.
The end of the book was written, I think, just for Gabi to get mad at the way they had to handle something else. Though, it will also definitely have consequences on the rest of the series, too. Gabi is already upset at the way things are being handled. She is looking for ways to fix things. This is just one more thing to be upset at.
I'm still enjoying the series, but I'm not really digging where it's headed. I very vaguely remember the plot, but I think this is where I started losing interest last time and never continued the series...
Sharon Hannaford has not disappointed me with the new Hellcat book. Full of witty humour, inventiveness and seriousness all tightly packed into an amazingly little book :-)
Revaluations come to pass when Benedict comes to visit and a surprising love triangle happens to with people you wouldn't of thought (not Gabi)
It was also very cool how Razor was involved alot in this book. No body messes with that cat!
An old enemy returns and works with a group of dark ones with consequences that will last and never saw coming :-)
Found incredibly hard to put down and give a massive ********** out of 5 :-)
Omg, this series just gets better and better. Not often I give a 5 star rating but this got it! Amazing! Thank you Sharon Hannaford for the pleasure of being part of this world!
What another amazing installment. Ms Sharon gave us everything and more in this installment. This picked up right where “A Cold Day In Hell” off. If you haven’t read that installment, I suggest you read that one before you start on this installment.
Gabi, Julies and the gang are back. With some of the other characters they featured in the previous installment and some new comers. This starts our with werewolves turning up drained of blood and then the vampires start showing up died. Gabi new that it had to be something more than just some murders happening in the city. There has to be a enemy on both sides. So Gabi and the team have to come together to deal with this issue.
With this going on, there is suddenly a re-appearance of Mariska and the Gemmini. And with those three come black magic, demons and more. Mariska has caused so much problems for the in the previous installments, that we are hoping some good will come out of this installment, and they either get rid of her or capture her. She is a thorn in my side.
Also we get to see Benedict and boy does he bring trouble. I’m a little upset that we did not get any more insight on what’s going on with him and Athena and Alex. I see a love triangle brewing up… Oh man, I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen in the next installment.
I’m glad that the author involved Razor in a lot of the scenes. It’s good to see how useful Razor is and how he would protect Gabi with everything he has.
We also get to see the power that Julies have come to develop. I would like to get a little bit more into his character and all of the different powers and new responsibilities that comes with that power. If this is going to be a good thing for him and Gabi relationship or will it bring more issues to the table. But I really enjoy how there relationship his blossom and how they are growing as one.
I really look forward to reading the next installment.
This has become one of my all time favourite series. The dynamics between Gabi and Julius drive the whole series and the characters around them are simply wonderful, so alive and vibrant. If it wash't for the fact that trouble follows Gabi around I would want to be her best friend. The battles in this instalment I found breathtaking, simply edge of your seat stuff and we know from earlier books that the author does not pull her punches when it comes to loss and torture.
Trish is shaping up to be a wonderful friend to Gabi and I am loving her character more and more. Derek intrigues me, I am not sure where he is heading, I feel his troubles keenly, I wonder where he will be taken next. Benedict makes a reappearance from the previous book, for which I am very glad, he intrigued me then and even more so now. Alexander and Athena are fantastic and I am loving the slow thawing out of the icy witch. Fergus, well what can I say he is just awesome and then there is the introduction of a wonderful new character called Mac. What a guy and very much want to know how things pan out for him in the near future. All this is what makes this book and series so brilliant, I love these people as if they were real. Gabi, you are wonderful and as for Julius, I didn't think he could get any more awesome but boy did he ever.
They story was brilliant but in my opinion anything we need to do to hear about these characters is worth it. The background has been set for the next book and boy does it look like a biggie! Caspian, I'll be watching you!
Ms Hannaford did it again! In this new installment of the Hellcat series, we got to know something new about Julius and followed the development of his relationship with Gabi. There were also some old friends and enemies coming back in this book along with some new ones. I love that Ms Hannaford gave us more storyline of Razor, Gabi's beloved pet cat, who was fierce and one of the overprotective males around Gabi! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it hard to put down the book until I finished it. Great job, Ms Hannaford!
I loved book 4 in the Hellcat Series. There was great flow and an intriguing mystery to solve. There was a lot of information about our characters in this book and with that information we got some answers and many more questions. Now I'm back to anxiously waiting for for the next installment in this wonderful series.
This series has it's merits with all paranormal urban fantasy that is s woven in a reader's mind. This is the fourth installment of Hellcat series and l am looking forward to the fifth. Hellcat know as Gabrielle is running a marathon with all the great supernatural fighters and holding her own. Anita Blake move over Hellcat is cometh.
I love this series and it just keeps getting better. Our resident bad girl is back and wow, does she put the vile in villain! Gabby and Julius are wonderful and yummy as ever!
I barely finished. All external conflict, no character or relationship growth for Gabi or Julius, and I found myself wishing I was reading about Alexander and Athena instead.
if you have followed this series you will like this book.it leaves you wanting the next installation now! There is a whole realm of possibilities to explore!!
Im quite disappointed with this book. Its not as good as the ones before.... I didnt quite like the ending that much as well. Technically, they still havent resolved much of anything.
This is the 4th story in the Hellcat series. Loved this book. The twists, turns, characters and story line. I'm looking forward to the next installment and to see how this series ends.
