Roman Garstang Adventure #2

The Chicken Nugget Ambush

Rate this book
An outdoor adventure trip is one thing, but can Roman Garstang survive a chicken nugget-only diet?

Roman is all set for his class trip to Farm View outdoor survival centre. There are only three

1. With Darren Gamble as his new BFF, how can Roman make friends with funny, cool girl Vanya?
2. Roman will be sharing a tent with Kevin, 'The Pukelear Missile', for three days.
3. Mum has prescribed a strict chicken nugget-only diet (seriously?!).

It's time to put his survival skills to the test.

Good for school camp style reads but quality of literature falls off due to potty humour .

In this book we catch back up with Roman and his antics at his crazy school. With Darren now his crazy best and only friend, Rosie hating him now after the events from the previous book, all about the dangers of donuts and him now being banned from eating donuts as a result in this book, hence the title.

His new diet is all chicken nuggets with chips etc. Now donuts are banned in his school, on a trip he manages to befriend Vanya whom happens to have a donut, hence winning over Roman!

However the trip is to an adventure course and as dramatic Rosie is there along with vomit spewing Kevin, we know the antics will be over dramatic in the best way especially with Mad Dan a supposed survival expert taking control of their school group.

It was full of hilarious situations and crazy distinctive characters. It really truly felt like a school trip and with the world's strangest people in attendance at once which I suppose is like real life school trips at times too! Packed with jokes and many good based situations, getting into trouble and winding each other up, you definitely won't be disappointed with this book!

Apart from Harry Potter, the Roman Garstang Disasters series is my favorite children’s series out there.

Do you hear that, Magic Treehouse, Junie B. Jones, Ramona Quimby, Percy Jackson? Take a hike, R.L. Stine. It’s even funnier than David Walliams’ stuff.

Why? Because it’s funny as hell. You’ve got a sort of deadpan British boy narrating about how desperately awful his life is and in each book he blames something harmless. In this case, chicken nuggets. His best mate Darren Gamble is an unpredictable criminal who needs a special teaching assistant and even Roman admits Darren’s friendship has sort of been forced on him. At least in this book, he also befriends Vanya Goyal, who is not only loyal, but also has an enquiring mind.

On their class trip to a survival camp, Roman is forced to eat a nuggets-only diet, clean vomit off a car, share a tent with a cow (along with Gamble and the ever-puking Kevin Harrison), suffer insults from Rosie Taylor, ride in a plastic bubble with another boy’s small bladder, evade a charging bull, face a lot of creepy chickens, and listen to Miss Clegg try to hit on Mad Dan the survival coach. Oh and Gamble is keen on giving him a piercing.

Miss 6 was bored. She listened to part of it and then moved to the next book.

Miss 6 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

Laugh-out-loud funny. An entertaining read for children aged 7+. Can't wait for the next in the series!

I think this was actually better than the first one! much funnier moments. I think there was slightly more of gamble in this book too, and I love him!
