Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mystery #0.5

What a Ghost Wants: The Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mysteries Prequel

Rate this book
The purr-fect mystery series for fans of Ghosts and Ghost Whisperer.

Scarlet Sanderson sees dead people. Literally. As a reluctant conduit between the land of the living and the dearly departed, she is doing her best to have a life of her own.

With an inheritance from her grandmother and the dream of opening a flower shop, she seeks out the peace and quiet of a small coastal town, thinking surely there won't be many spectral residents.

Unfortunately, she didn't fully do her homework. Beechwood Harbor is a paranormal haven, and there's a lot more than ghosts waiting to roll out the welcome wagon.

What a Ghost Wants is the prequel novella to The Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mysteries series.

What a Ghost Wants is the prequel novella to the Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mystery series. This was a good introduction to the series. I enjoyed it. This is a cozy mystery series with ghost sidekicks, including a cat ghost that speaks english, and it is set in the state of Washington. This was a quick listen at only 2 hours and 18 minutes. The narration was really good. This book definitely got me interested in continuing the series, which is great since I scooped up the entire series in the last audible sale. 4 stars overall.

This is a cute little book introducing Scarlet, a ghost whisperer, and her two ghost companions - Lord Hayward, an 18th century British lord, and Flapjack, the ghost of her childhood cat.
While looking for a location for her dream flower shop, Scarlet meets the ghost of a murdered woman. A little mystery to be solved with help from the ghosts. A fun, quick read.

🧿 Genre: Paranormal Cozy Mystery

Ah, Beechwood Harbour! Where even the air feels enchanted. What a Ghost Wants is bite-sized but brimming with charm, the kind of story that slides right into your weekend like a cozy cup of tea shared with a ghostly roommate. Scarlet’s first steps into this magical town are full of humor and heart, particularly when Flapjack (the feline menace with more attitude than fur) starts stealing scenes left and right.

Amanda Ranconi absolutely elevates this audiobook. I’m a longtime fan, and once again, she delivers. Her voice acting gives each character their own personality, but Flapjack deserves a special mention. That nasal, irritating tone? Perfection. He’s obnoxious in the best way, and I could practically hear him threatening me for mentioning him here. This narration alone makes the audiobook worth it.

Danielle Garrett has built a universe so vivid it feels less like urban fantasy and more like a spot you could plug into your GPS. Beechwood Harbour pulses with personality. The perfect blend of whimsy, mystery, and supernatural mischief. While it’s a novella and over far too soon, it does its job: I’m already itching to dive into the full series. This intro gave me the perfect hit of magic and mischief to brighten a gray Toronto day.

Would I recommend it?
Absolutely yes. This is the definition of a cozy paranormal comfort read in a short, charming, and packed way with personality. Whether you’re new to Danielle Garrett’s work or already love Beechwood Harbor, this novella is a perfect starting point. It sets the tone beautifully and makes it impossible not to continue the series.

🅼🆈 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂:

This cozy paranormal mystery takes us along with Scarlet into the small town of Beechwood Harbor, where she goes on to search for properties for her floral business while contemplating whether putting her roots into a new town would be wise or not.

What's unusual is that Scarlett is never alone, always with her two invisible companions, one a sarcastic ghost of her cat from childhood and the other a ghost of an English man from way past.

Unknowingly, Scarlet stumbles upon a crime mystery when she meets a ghost living in the property where she goes to examine for her future prospects.

Even though this is a short prequel read yet I felt myself pulled towards these characters and would definitely love to spend more time with them.

I freaking loved the Banter we have between the cat and our sweet English man who's instantly smitten with the cute ghost they meet in the town.
Scarlet also has me intrigued as that girl is a smart one.

I can't wait to dive in the first book of this series. So excited. Loved this one. ❤️❤️

It's been a while since I read this series - so reading the prequel had me puzzled in the beginning. I enjoyed the book.

"What a Ghost Wants" is a short and amusing novella set in the Danielle Garret's Beachwood Harbor universe. Featuring Scarlett the ghost whisperer and her perpetual sidekicks, stuffy and cliched Hayward and trash-talking moggie Flapjack, this prologue is a great introduction to the series for new readers and can be read at any time in the series by readers who have already started it. The book fleshes out the back story a bit, explains why Scarlett even winds up in Beachwood Harbor, introduces ghostly gossip Gwen and provides some fun scenes in which Hayward achieves new heights of awkwardness while acquainting himself with the aforementioned Gwen.

An enjoyable introduction to the characters with a little mystery to solve thrown in.
Scarlet a ghost whisperer with dreams of opening a flower shop in the town of Beechwood Harbour is sweet and likeable. Her two ghostly companions Hayward and Flapjack are hilarious, especially the fact they can't stop arguing and if they are not arguing trying to antagonize each other. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more.

A short prequel to the Ghosts of Beechwood Harbor series. We are introduced to Scarlet Sanderson, ghost whisperer extraodinaire and her entourage: Lord Hayward Kensington III, ghost of a 19TH century British gentleman, and Flapjack, ghost of a snarky Himalayan Cat. They are welcomed by Gwen, '70s era wannabe rock groupie and gossip mistress. A nice intro to the ghostly side of magical Beechwood Harbor.

Killer
"Scarlet Sanderson sees dead people. Literally. As a reluctant conduit between the land of the living and the dearly departed, she is doing her best to have a life"
The culprit wasn't who the ghost thought it was. She made a mistake about her killer. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book.

Spending time with Scarlet and the gang is just like being with friends for me. This is my favorite of Garrett's series, and it always makes me smile every time I get to dive into it. I enjoyed reading this small novella about how Scarlet came to be living in Beechwood Harbor and how they all met Gwen.

What a ghost wants by Danielle Garrett. I usually don't like prequels but this was just too cute not to read. It sets a pretty good foundation for the rest of the series. But honestly it doesn't need to be read in order to get the rest of the story. The only real thing you learn is how she ended up in the town but not the why as we learn that in book 2

Amanda Ronconi does a wonderful job narrating all the characters in this prequel to the series.
Scarlet Sanderson sees dead people, Hayward a ghost that has been staying close to her, a talking cat named Flapjack while opening a flower shop inherited from her grandmother.

Beechwood Harbor is a paranormal haven, and there's a lot more than ghosts that want her help.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this whole series of books. I didn't find this book until after I finished the rest. It would be nice if it was added to the beginning of the Beachwood Harbor Ghost Mystery, book list.

Meh. I realize this is a prequel to an existing series and it’s a “novella,” but it felt more like an undeveloped short story to me. The main character and her two ghostly companions were cute (albeit a bit trite) so I’m willing to check out the next novel if it’s on KU.

Lovely start to a series
Discovered this series the other day and as always happy with a prequel for backstory. A woman and her ghostly companions looking for a plan e to start a business. Great concept, characters, plot and setting. Looking forward to a long relationship with the series.

Fast and fun

I loved reading how this whole series started for Scarlett. Flapjack is still as ornery as ever and Hayward was so cute crushing on Gwen. It was nice getting the back story.

I wasn't expecting much from this one - possibly I'm jaded about prequels? Idk but this one was good! It was very much it's own full story, just shorter. Enjoyable read.

Audiobook narrator is good too 👍
