The Hallow Hunt

Rate this book
Bly has nothing left to lose in her quest to save her sister in this thrilling sequel to The Revenant Games that’s perfect for fans of All of Us Villains meets Kingdom of the Wicked .

Bly won the Revenant Games, but she lost everything else.

In her desperation to resurrect her sister, Bly betrayed Kerrigan, the vampire who she’d planned to sacrifice to the witches before she fell in love with him—only to find out that Elise was never dead. With nothing left, Bly will do whatever it takes to locate her sister.

Her only lead on Elise lies with Kerrigan’s brother, Donovan, who she turned over to the witches in place of Kerrigan. She spends her nights tracking down witch prisons to rescue him. Meanwhile, Kerrigan is also searching for Donovan, but after Bly’s treachery, he refuses her help.

But when the vampire queens accuse the two of them of treason, they’re only offered one escape from retrieving a mystical root that only grows on the banks of the Hallow Pool, where legend says that vampires and witches were created. Now Kerrigan and Bly must find a way to work together if they want to keep their lives and save their siblings.

But they’re not the only ones hunting in the forest, and as their feelings for each other rekindle, they risk being torn apart once more.

okay. so. I AM FINALLY DOING A REVIEW AGAIN BC I WOULD RATHER WRITE ONE THEN SHOWER RN. IYKYK.

it's honestly been a bit since i SAID I was gonna review this and when I actually AM reviewing it.

KERRIGAN IS MY MAN SDFIJDFJDISFJIDFJJDIFSFDIJS. also Bly became kinda annoying bc she only cared about her sister in the first part of the book (GIRL BFFR U LOST YOUR MAN) and THEN started caring about other people LATER. red flag Bly honey. then she got her shit together and got with kerrigan (my dream vampire and you can't convince me otherwise).

so overall the plot was JUICY and kerrigan was hot as hell so 5/5!!!

FOUR STAR REVIEW ALERT ✨✨✨✨
“The Hallow Hunt”
By: Margie Fulton
Releasing 4/1/25 Everywhere

❤️🧡💙

Bly won the Revenant Games, but she lost everything else. With nothing left, Bly will do anything to locate her sister. Meanwhile, Kerrigan is searching for his brother Donovan, but after Bly’s treachery, he refuses her help. Kerrigan and Bly must find a way to work together if they want to keep their lives and save their siblings.

This was a wonderful conclusion to the series. We pick up right where we left off, with Bly suffering the consequences of her decisions during and after the games. It also gives us the backstory into the magical system and lore that was lacking in the first novel.

The slow burn rekindling between Bly and Kerrigan was really fun to experience as they learn to trust and understand each other.

This book tied up the plot holes and added depth to some of what was lacking in the first novel, making this an overall great duology. It was fast paced, full of twists and turns, and a lot of fun to read!

❤️🧡💙

Perfect ending when there were so many twists and turns I couldn’t decide how there could be any ending! Honestly the characters were so rich, along with the world building, I really wish this had been a trilogy. Though it has pulled off the rare phenomenon of a satisfying dualology.

First off thank you so much to Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing and NetGalley for letting me receive an ARC copy of this book! This is the sequel to The Revenant Games, a vampire witch duology by Margie Fuston. This was a good conclusion to this duology, although I feel like it could have used one more book. There were no revenant games taking place in this one, which I wished there was but besides that it was so interesting to find out how vampires and witches were created from the Hallow pool. This was mostly Bly’s story, and I really love her as a character. She is basically alone and betrayed at the end of the first book, so this story is basically about her learning who to trust again. I feel like there was a lack of her and Kerrigan’s romance in this one, even though they were enemies at the end of the first book, but I felt once they did become lovers again I felt like we didn’t get enough of it and felt a little rushed. But besides that I’m never once bored because I really enjoy Margie’s writing. 4.25 stars so good!! Can’t wait to pick it up when it comes out 😁

Book one was amazing. It will likely be one of my favorites of the year. I got book 2 in my hands as quickly as I could once it ended. That makes the fact that I dnf book 2 at 50% quite painful. I wanted to love it just as much as the first book but it was just flat. It became a continuous game of I saved you because you saved me and quite frankly it got boring.

I’m not sure what went so wrong between book 1 and book 2 but that’s my take on it.

Honestly, what a GREAT sequel!!! There were a few times that Bly got a little too repetitive, but that was super easy to look past. The characters were great, the story was enthralling, and the writing was so good! Some of the characters' one-liners, especially Donovan, had me cackling! Also, when are we getting a Donovan and Demelza spin off!?! I would read that in a heartbeat! This book was just released in early April and you don't want to miss it! Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for my digital ARC!! ❤️

This book needs to become more popular ;-; the amount of time that I have spent scouring the internet for edits or reviews or ANYTHING on this book is so frustrating. Why can we not bask in it?? Would write fan fiction only to populate the internet with more love for these characters despite the fact that I would have never even considered doing that before.

I read Revenant games earlier this year and wondered why it wasn’t talked enough because it was seriously good. I have become quite picky with YA fantasy off late but this one stood out and pleasantly surprised me.I ended up loving The Hallow Hunt more than the Revenant Games, it was high stakes, tension filled page turner with a lot of “I hate that I love you”vibes with push and pull romance..just my kind with lots of angst!

A well done continuation and ending, excellent pacing, lots of banter and action packed sequences. While The Witches Vs Vampires is not a new theme, it is still written in an interesting way that felt like a great take on the beloved PNR theme. There is a lot of potential to have a spin off from this series because the characters are so well written, I’d definitely read a spin off 😉

Overall a great duology if you love PNR fantasy with a strong story line and well developed characters. Thank you so much to @simonteen for my ARC

Oh the audio is excellent for it, I read The revenant games completely on audio while I switched b/w formats for The Hallow Hunt🥰thank you @simon.audio

The Hallow Hunt follows the Revenant Games in such a cleverly written story about a young woman that has to navigate a world run by witches and vampires. I couldn't put it down. I've been literally dying for a year waiting for this release and jumped on the opportunity to read it. I re-read the first one and then immediately jumped into this one. Even on a second read I stormed through the books.

It's got such an imaginative story with a great cast of characters, and the banter does banter. The twists do turn. It's so well written, and the pacing moves beautifully throughout both books in the series.

It's young adult but has some steamy moments.

Thank you so much for the arc to this fantastic story.

Thank you to Edelweiss for granting me the incredible honor of reading an advance copy of this book.

Friends and fellow book lovers, Margie Fuston has done it again. I adored The Revenant Games, and I’m thrilled to say The Hallow Hunt is just as breathtaking. With its release set for March 2025, I can’t fully dive into the details, but trust me when I say this book deserves every bit of praise.

In this thrilling installment, long-awaited answers emerge, new connections form, and romances—both familiar and unexpected—unfold beautifully yet heartbreakingly. There is tragedy woven into these pages, yet dreams shimmer through the sorrow, creating a story that lingers long after the final chapter.

And now, a message for Margie Fuston: First, the end? Absolutely unmatched. You know the part I mean. I can’t even begin to describe what I was feeling. Second, please, I am begging for a prequel about the ever-enigmatic and utterly lovable Donovan. Or honestly, anything about Donovan.

Update November 2024, I have indeed gotten my hands on this book.

2023:

After that cliffhanger I am SO excited to get my hands on this book 👀

This book was set up to be really good, but it fell flat in a lot of ways for me. The motivations from the first book weren't fleshed out in this one, and certain conflicts were resolved too conveniently. The ending was also predictable. I'm glad I read it, but I don't see this being a duology I'll ever reread.

Meinung:

The Revenant Games was one of my fave books of 2024, so I have been dying to read the sequel. What’s also been eating away at me is my mood reading. So even though The Hallow Hunt has been out for a month and I’ve had the ARC for a while longer, I haven’t started until just now.

Where the competition vibes were hard hitting in book 1, the sequel is what happens after the games have ended and the loss is really hitting hard. Bly hasn’t won her sister’s life. She hasn’t even gotten the guy, because her vampy prince is now locked up in the witches dungeon… where she is as well. But at least they’re alive, right? For now. There isn’t a guarantee for the outcome. No promises of freedom, so the only thing to do is find a way out.

This is an adventure story as much as its predecessor was. There just isn’t a contest or a prize at the end of it. Unless you count the heart of a LOVERRRRRRR. Cue the Ooh’s and Aah’s of a studio audience. But as they run from the witches, they also get a suprise visit from someone Bly never thought she’d see again. Her sister.

I really enjoyed this. I’m glad it’s a duology, because I truly am horrible at keeping up with series’. The longer they are, the bigger the chance I will not continue them. 3 books is my max and then I need a spin-off. So if we get more in this world, I’ll be psyched. But if this is it, I’m also super happy.

I read the audiobook version for both The Revenant Games and The Hallow Hunt (while also following along with the physical book, because sometimes it’s easier to retain what I’m reading that way). The audiobook is so well done and I love Emily Lawrence’s voice. Her character voices are distinct, so I know who’s talking. You’d be surprised at some books I’ve listened to and how difficult it is to do.

Thanks to Simon Teen for my gifted ARC.

5 stars! ⭐️

Okay, where do I even start reviewing this book? From beginning to end, this book was absolutely formidable, and I enjoyed every single page of it. I truly hope it gets the praise it deserves. If you love fantasy with a touch of romance, you have to read this book!

First, I want to start by saying that Margie Fuston is a phenomenal writer. She keeps you captivated with her engaging storytelling and perfect pacing. I devoured this book whole!!

Second, the characters in this book are something else. The character development was outstanding, and the dynamic between them just worked. Everything just clicked. I loved the conversations, the conflicts, and the forced proximity.

If you asked me which character was my favorite, I honestly wouldn’t be able to choose. Bly, Kerrigan, Donovan, and Demelza stole my heart—but so did Benedict and Nova. Every character had so much depth, and they all fit seamlessly into the story. The way they survive, behave, and make choices in the world they were born into… absolutely amazing.

And then… the romance. At the beginning of this book, there was so much tension and yearning. LIKE, A LOT. And I craved every bit of it! The romance was beautifully written, and the ending left me completely satisfied.

PLEASE, do yourself a favor and read this duology. You can thank me later! 🧛🏻‍♀️🧙♥️

Wow! What a treat of a book! I did not know so what I was getting into not having read Revenant Games but I like doing that to ascertain whether a book could be read by itself. To me it’s the mark of a good writer to bridge the gap so a new reader isn’t lost without sounding overly repetitive for the sequel readers. Marie Fuston definitely exemplifies the “good writer” title for several reasons, the least of which is properly penning a sequel.

Fuston’s writing is engaging while providing a fast paced, page turning story that you can easily get lost in. After I finished reading this book I went back and read Revenant Games and book books are equally outstanding. What I especially loved was it was a great representation of solid writing, especially for the young adults to which it is for. But on the other hand while it’s a “Young Adult” book, it is easily embraced by folks of all ages, it’s that good.

I am am thankful to have gotten the ARC for free from Simon Children’s through NetGalley to read which gave me the opportunity to voluntarily leave a review.

This title comes out on April 1 2025. RUN to preorder it so you can crack the spine (not literally please we aren’t savages here) the moment it comes out!

My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars

⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again

If you are riding that Hunger Games wave and want to stay on it, you need to be reading this series by Margie Fuston! Book one focused on the games and then this is book two which focuses on what comes after. Bly really did absolutely everything she could to save her sister in the games and now she is dealing with all of the fallout from the choices she made. The biggest of those being Kerrigan’s hatred. I started this book and probably would have finished it in one sitting if I didn’t have work, so that just tells you how good it is! Plus every scene where Donovan and Kerrigan interact has banter that reminds me of the Salvatore brothers. With this release on April 1, 2025 this duology will be complete, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if more books set in this world appeared. For now though this really is the best time to start reading!
