Phyllis Wheeler set a goal at age 13 to write a children’s book. That led to a journey with lots of detours. She’s written for daily newspapers, worked on airplanes as a mechanical engineer, and raised four children--doing some homeschooling along the way. I got an early copy from the author for an honest review and I am happy to do it. It is another adventure with the three seasoned time travelers and this time they have to save their friend and mentor Will who suddenly disappears. Very well written, great descriptions of the time and place where they find themselves and I love DeeDee. She is so sweet and innocent and never gives up. There is also a surprise time traveler who will play a big role in saving Will but I cannot say more. You have to read it for yourselves.
My 9 year old wrote this as his review of this book: Perfect for people who love time travel adventure stories. From Will's dangerous career of picking up gold coins to DeeDee's funny pronunciations of foreign lands, this is a great book.
My 6 year old enjoyed it as well. Great to have books at this level for the kids to read!
I was given a PDF of this book in return for my honest review, and it was absolutely fantastic! The fast-paced narrative, intriguing historical details, and thrilling exploration spots made it impossible to put down. Blending fantasy with time travel and realistic events that children would find captivating, I will definitely recommend this series!
Time travel around the world. Eleven-year-old twins Jake and Ava are off on another adventure. This time, their friend, Will, is missing and believed brainwashed by a rouge member of the Guild. Ms. Wheeler introduces the reader to multiple places and times during the journey. This adventure would make an excellent prompt for searching on a map and starting history discussions.
An excellent time-travel adventure story. Good for all ages, if you like time-travel, bad guys, cool inventions, clues to follow - all in a clean read. It isn't very long, but it's interesting and makes you want to know more. Definitely recommend it. Fun.
Very well thought out, well researched and consistent with previous books. Written for children, but enjoyable for adults as well. I highly recommend this book.
Will and Ava are traveling frequently this summer—to different countries, and to different centuries. As young apprentices of the Guardians of Time, the location of their travels is a when as much as a where.
"Hidden Throne" is middle-grade sci-fi, with a strong dose of historical fiction. In the first-person narration, the young hero finds a good voice, both straightforward and innocent. The story paints its array of times and places in clear, strong colors. Several children join in the time-traveling, all likeable, and the villain and mentor are compelling. In keeping with the intended age range, the plot is not complex, yet provides interest and definite stakes. "Hidden Throne" is a light, enjoyable read.
