CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.

In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.

In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.

I loved this one just as much as the first! I think this is the last volume that has any association with the anime so I’m ready to read the parts that I’m unaware of, or that I don’t recall due to the extended amount of time I’ve been away from this world.

Random thought I wish Watanuki and the Zashiki-Warashi were a thing, forget about Himawari. She’s still super SUS.

Doumeki is increasingly starting to intrigue me because he’s began to truly fret over Watanuki and I know it’s for a reason, I just don’t remember what it is 😭.

This volume had a lot of travel in it and I enjoyed that. We had a glimpse into the land of monsters, a realm of bad spirits, and the realm where the Zashiki-warashi live. All of the little places added to this stories magical elements.

As always READ Xxxholic if you want to explore mysticism, if you feel at home with things like witchcraft, eerie characters, magic, sorcery, little magical shops, and a lovable protagonist. I swear you will not regret it.

This was lovely, the more I read xxxHolic the more I enjoy it. My favorite parts are meeting various magical beings and the relationship between Watanuki and Dômeki.

The intro to Legal Drug made me sad. Still, Watanuki and Doumeki are good together. Always shipped them. Gotta say I don't think much of Himawari, at the moment her role is more subtle. The draining ghost was sad both for the ghost and Watanuki. Books 4,5 and 6, again not working on the phone kindle app. It's one of those nostalgia ones, still tightly linked with Tsubasa.

I'm offering the same preface I did to my other omnibus reviews: Writing reviews for xxxHolic is a futile sort of thing, because it's a story that, in all honesty, is greater than the sum of its parts, which I do actually mean in the best way I can. It's just, the gut punch that is this series requires the build up, requires the many moving pieces slowly fitting into a solid machine of grief and longing and bento boxes (and by many moving pieces, I don't mean the plot events related in Tsubasa--those are the number one reason I never authentically recommend this series for others, as it makes no gotdamn sense thanks to the the Tsubasa crossover arc). Also, reviewing is difficult, as I am completely unable to be objective about this series. So what's going to happen is I'm going give a rough review of what happens in each omnibus and how much pain it's going to cause, strictly so I can remind myself later when I'm trying to remember what events happen where. As such, spoilers abound.

Omnibus #2 contains volumes #4-6. Shit's starting to get LIT y'all. With these volumes we get the ICONIQUE Valentine's Day Chocolate Debacle in which Doumeki's soul is inexplicably tied up in Watanuki's cake. We also get one of my all time favorite story episodes with the twins. And some Watanuki spirit pain in the form of a childhood friend. And that's just the first volume, Jesus. We also get the ICONIQUE incident with the hydrangea, some more episodic character stuff, the ICONIQUE Hyakki Yako, and some more sad Watanuki spirit stuff. I think what this omnibus does is really start solidifying the deft with which xxxHolic handles issues of choice and self-determination. This is the point where we start seeing serious truths about humanity spoken in between the silliness and sweets. This omnibus is going to lay a foundation of pain that you will not be getting relief from! So that's fun!

Once again, another beautiful dive into Japanese folklore and mysticism, with a twist! Almost a year and half have passed between the beginning of the first Omnibus and the end of this one. It does well to note the season changes and holidays to get a sense of just how long Watanuki has been working for Yuko. Not every event follows on the heels of the first. There are huge time gaps between volumes which is good to keep in mind as far as relational and character development is concerned (and to help get a sense of just how skewed time is becoming in Tsubasa).

The plot of this Omnibus is similar to the first. People entering Yuko's shop with needs or spirits requiring help. Death and the various eastern myths surrounding it are touched on. I especially enjoyed the story on words and how binding words can be to those who both say them and hear them! There is a sense of something big (plot-wise) looming in the distance though. Yuko seems to be aware of a larger conflict that Watanuki is not, and she is taking pains to keep him nearby and aware of the spiritual elements surrounding him. I imagine a bigger plot point is about to hit the reader in the face very soon, especially given how tense things are in Tsubasa at this point.

The two series' continue to kiss and touch each other lightly, though there are hints of bigger connections to come. This Omnibus also continues to be somewhat sexually suggestive in its art, and the occultic/ Shinto beliefs and practices are still very much center-stage.

I look forward to seeing what happens next!

Sigh.

I love this series so much. <3

It's slowly shifting from a more episodic/slice of life vibe to a deeper plot slowly beginning to unfold. Watanuki's specialness and how he attracts things,,, we're starting to really see how that can be a danger to Watanuki, himself. We would see hints here and there, but they had been mainly played for jokes or passed off as annoyances but here, we begin to see true signs of danger.

I like Doumeki's role being expanded upon (and boy, oh boy, did I ship these two back in the day lol), and I liked how he still sort of just goes along with things and how he uses Watanuki as a measuring tool of sorts for when to be concerned. Watanuki not gagging/throwing up? Eh, probably fine then. Never fails to crack me up.

Also, Watanuki finally got the interest of a cute girl. So adorable!

In the midst of reading this volume, I was already contemplating on not finishing this series, because it's not really what I was expecting.

And then I got to Chapter 38, and was stunned by the shift of tone it took. Up to this point, xxxHolic has been, for the most part, light and humorous, with something dark only happening occasionally.

Not only was I taken aback by Chapter 38 onwards, I remembered the scene with Watanuki on the phone when I saw it on TV several years ago - without even knowing what anime it was (perhaps if Yuka herself was on-screen, I would've figured it out)!

Now, I'm excited to continue with this manga.

I read the manga back in my college days which like 9 years ago because I couldn't get enough of the anime , and because Tsubasa Chronicles is just too depressing. Fell in love with the ingenuity of the story, the op and ed songs of the anime, the way everything was drawn, elaborated costumes of the characters, black mokona, and how everything was a breath of fresh air. Before I couldn't understand the ambiguity of the story, but now that I am reading it all over, I finnd it just exquisitely written.

It's really hard to provide a review of xxxholic because it is very episodic. However, I'd say I really enjoyed reading this volume because the characters that are introduced and the specific stories that are included are some of my favorite. Omnibus 2 covers volumes 4, 5, and 6. Watanuki becomes even more immersed in Yuko's world, and we see themes of choice and individual responsibility throughout the stories. Not much more to say other than the character dynamics continue to be great and the artwork does not cease to amaze.

I really like the way the story develops. Himawari-chan is so intriguing - I can't remember where things go with her and so don't remember if she's just the sweetest friend-zoner of all time or is really that clueless. The evolving relationship with Domeki-kun and Watanuki-kun is fun and Yuko-san is mysterious and far too into her daily alcohol intake. I love Yuko-san's laugh when Watanuki gets annoyed. His outbursts crack me up. Plus there's such interesting lessons woven through the wishes granted, though that's less a part of the story than the inter-personal relationships.

This was just as enjoyable as the first omnibus. I really am liking the relationship between Domeki and Watanuki. Watanuki seems to finally be coming around on Domeki and Domeki is acting real weird about keeping Watanuki safe. Lowkey highkey want them to maybe idk become romantical or smth. There were a few more parts than the last one that kind of lost me but I think that's bound to happen as the series goes on and we get deeper and deeper into the lore.

The story gets even better in this one. The world is very interesting and very well done. The thing that I love the most is that we are thrown in to different kind of situations where we are not fully certain if something will happen or not. So we experience the world and the "things" in it, alongside the protagonist. Also, Watanuki and Domeki are just hilarious.

Ha, this series gets better and more emotional as the chapters go on. The chapters with Watanuki and the Fancy Kimono Lady are probably my favorite ones of the early chapters. Seeing Watanuki realize that there are people who love him and he's not alone anymore. And his partnership with Doumeki growing in those chapters. Not gonna lie, the fangirls will rage in those chapters.

Reread — I’m working my way through this series, I have read these volumes before. They aren’t *as* strong as the first 3 volumes, but I love how the world is growing & the inclusion of more traditional Japanese spirits. I just adore this series!

Just like the previous volume, I loved volume 2 of xxxholic. Watanuki making a Valentine's chocolate then receiving it as a gift is kind of funny. But then as expected of Yuuko to order something like that.
