Payne & Jones #8

The Einstein Pursuit

Rate this book
Working in secret, an acclaimed group of scientists has developed a radical new approach to modern medicine that could change everything we know about the human body and its limitations. But such knowledge does not come without risk. When their laboratory in Stockholm is attacked, it becomes clear that someone will stop at nothing to keep this research from reaching the masses.

As more details come to light, Interpol director Nick Dial realizes that the bombing in Sweden has exposed a hidden collective of the world’s greatest minds. What’s more, this group has been operating in the shadows for more than a century. What have they learned during all that time? And why would someone want them dead?
Jonathon Payne and David Jones soon find themselves drawn into the mystery. On a collision course with the man behind the massacre, the duo must follow the history of scientific discovery in order to stop a villain determined to use modern advancements to create his own vision of the future—a future where he alone controls who lives and dies.

Bursting with action, suspense and humor, THE EINSTEIN PURSUIT is Chris Kuzneski at his very best.

Chris Kuzneski is the #1 international bestselling & New York Times bestselling author of twelve novels and one novella. His thrillers have been translated into more than twenty languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide. One of his books (THE HUNTERS) is currently being made into a major motion picture, and another (THE PRISONER’S GOLD) won an ITW Thriller Award for Book of the Year.

Armed with witty prose, a unique narrative voice, and a penchant for blackmail, Kuzneski has garnered praise from many of the top authors in the world: James Patterson, Nelson DeMille, Lee Child, Vince Flynn, James Rollins, Tess Gerritsen, Douglas Preston, Lisa Gardner, Steve Berry, Scott Mariani, Allison Brennan, W.E.B. Simply put, his books are awesome.

A former football player at the University of Pittsburgh, Kuzneski worked as a journalist until he realized it was easier to make stuff up in the comfort of his own home. He has been writing fiction and sleeping in ever since. The only thing that has slowed him down is his obvious need for a pen name, since most people don't know how to spell or pronounce 'Kuzneski'. [Hint: Seven of the letters are silent.]

nothing much to say. Its a very confused book. You can read it one time if you have nothing else to do.

In this book everybody helps everybody just at a phone call. And help is not simple life of by money but they take on with armed assassins. Payne helps Salaberg on one call just because he once worked for his father and seems genuine and in the process he and his partner kills 7-8 persons. US air force helps them coz they have helped the some of commanding officer . Interpol is adamant on helping them but they insist to do it their way. When finally they relent Nick Dial, Interpol chief is thankful to them. And yes something about the incident which started it all. Why the laboratory is exploded and all scientist killed in the first place. Cant tell because of spoilers. By the time you will reach that point you would have stopped caring any way.

Two stars for some funny scenes and scientific details.

A good premise to start with, but the story becomes tedious under the back and forth of our two superstars who seem to be in a situation that by all accounts, they shouldn't be involved in.

I'm astonished to find this getting so many great reviews, I think it's one of the worst books I've ever read: repetitive; over-endowed with great slabs of research shoe-horned in wherever and whenever; virtually non-existent characterisation - no one, not even the protagonists, are more than ciphers for the plot. And the plot is nothing to text home about either: a raft of clichés stitched together with ghastly dialogue, full of cringingly fake 'witty' macho banter; the whole thing hangs on coincidence and happen-stance and it's all so predictable, the denouement of each and every part of the plot was practically visible from space.
The blurb says it's a best seller. I'm sure it is, so was the News of the World, and probably for the same reasons.
Clearly, I am not in this novel's intended audience and I really I don't think I'll be picking up another Chris Kuzneski novel any time soon.

Well what can I say? I'm a Kuzneski fan and this is just another fine addition to the Payne/Jones series. Admittedly, these books are a guilty pleasure but like with eating you should have a varied and balanced diet. That said, there are times when you deserve to sit down and have a pizza or a greasy cheeseburger. I think Chris' books are certainly more nutritious than that but they are also not great art. His two main characters are fun and entertaining and his supporting characters are well developed and add to the fullness of the story. If you are looking for a fast paced, quick reading thriller then you need look no further.

I had to put this down for a minute. Too much going on in the story. Way too many players, way too many possibilities.

The lab was packed with many of the brightest minds in their field, all focused on a secret project that would change mankind for ever.
In a matter of seconds, they would all be dead.

Just those two sentences was all it took to have me hooked, reading the book until it was completed in the early hours of the morning. Fast paced, as all the Payne and Jones novels are, though it didn't completely focus on them alone. It was nice to find out more about Nick Dial and the other supporting characters. Chris brings all of them to life, you can see them acting in front of you as you are reading.

A thoroughly enjoyable, highly recommended read.

re-read and it gets better.

I have missed this series and now have another long wait to the next book in the series, thank fully he has now got another series that is as equally good.

Payne and Jones are once again saving the world this timn from the magic of science and one manand his thirst to live forever. Nick Dial has a more prominent role in this book which leaves Mr Kuzneski to write an explosive novel with a bang at the end, with Payne and Jones to save the day in their unique fashion!

BRILLIANT!

An Abbie must read :)

I have read every Payne and Jones book - this is by far the worst. The bulk of the book is a series of long winded conversations - it was more like I had run into Payne and Jones in the frozen food aisle and I was being given the run down of how they had spent their time since I'd last seen them rather than the globe trotting adventure I expected. The normally ham fisted but fun banter between Payne and Jones took a left turn into half hearted and contrived this time around - combine that with lazy action and you've got an exercise in mediocrity.

More thrills with Payne and Jones

Another very cool action story for our invincible heroes. I really like the partnership and the wisecracks it delivers along the way. The story in this instalment is interesting and does make you think about the super wealthy really do have access to so much more than almost the entire world. That’s life I guess and the imbalance is reason enough to dislike rich villains but when the forsake humanity as a whole you really want to see them fail. The action, as is the case in all Payne and Jones stories, never slows and if you’re like me, well you just keep turning the pages. It had been a while since I read one of these stories and I was pleased to see there’s another out in the series now. Another to look forward too as, so far, Payne and Jones have not let me down. Very entertaining read.

This book was unlike any other book in the series actually. This was a crime thriller more then it was a historical fiction. More in line with the first book of the series, The Plantation. There as well historical significance was a little less ( it was there for sure ), but the plot was more like a crime thriller.
It was like reading a science fiction, in which some brilliant scientist has revolutionized something and a bad guy wants to monopolise on it for whatever reason. If I wanted that I would have read a science fiction itself, it was disappointing to say the least.
My favourite part of the story was ofc Jones and his humour, nothing else stood out to me, one moment you are hunting someone and the next moment you are in his team, that doesn't make any sense to me.
In any case, I think Chris had lost his touch by this point. Expected way more.

I'm not really familiar with this series. I think I've read its first installment, but it wasn't that memorable. Just like what my rating said, I liked it. However, Payne and Jones are 2 out-of-the-world kind of characters, when everyone around them are just regular people doing their job. Or just regular people who get cranky when they don't get enough sleep. However, it is nice to say that I read this when during my holiday in Phuket, it wasn't that engaging to read because I still manage to leave this book on read and went to do other things, or I might not enjoy my holiday at all.

Another feather in the cap

Payne and Jones a magnet for trouble do it again but this time with limited information from the person they ended up protecting because of Paynes late father. The real surprise for me was how much we got to learn about his past, i was taken along with the ride with Payne... worth a read, more so if you have followed the series! Well written and enforces the ideal of family and real friends.

Payne and Jones, despite starting off as the typical full-time superheroes, who used to be Spec Ops, while also providing comic relief, actually turn out to be decently developed characters, although I only got one of their background stories. The premise was exciting, almost lived to its potential, which made the cut for me, and was a very decent page-turner overall ^^

I started this a while ago and put it down - very glad to come back to it, though. Payne & Jones are fun!

That said, I read a lot of books in the genre and I find the writing a little stilted - so really 3 1/2 stars and not 4, but I always round up.

Another great Payne and Jones by an author I consider possibly the best in the genre. Pacey, entertaining, excellent dialogue - my only complaint is that at this point there are no more Payne and Jones to read. I guess I'll have to try out the Hunter series.

I am a huge Chris Kuzneski fan. This book just underlined why his books are so good. The research as always was meticulous and the plot out of this world.

I cannot wait for more books in this oand the Hunters series.

A traditional Payne and Jones adventure, full of flights across Europe jumping out of aircraft, fighting with the bad guys, protecting the good guys, lots of banter between them, lots of fighting, it would make a good tv series, and yes I enjoyed reading it.

Not as good as some of the previous books and I don't get why this many books in the author still insists on going over their military backgrounds.
