Alone and Looking to Bone! Loudmouthed Mountain Man Seeks Fiery Woman to Grow Old With.

I might look like a tall, tattooed, bearded neanderthal...but like an onion, I have layers. Swipe right if you like a proud cat daddy who catches feelings after direct eye contact.

All I wanted was a casual plus-one to my brother's destination wedding, but those idiots on my family tree hacked my dating profile and sabotaged my quest for the perfect weekend fling. Now I'm stuck on a tropical vacation with only my hand to keep me company.

Until I’m forced to share a room with the bane of my existence: my sister-in-law’s best friend.

Dakota has hated me for the past seven years. I wasn’t losing much sleep over her screaming rants because she was some other guy’s problem. Or she was, until she got divorced.

Being stuck in paradise with a woman who loathes your very existence doesn't sound hot, but after an unexpected moment in our shared palapa, she starts screaming at me in a different way.

What happens in paradise stays in paradise. That is, until Dakota shows up on my mountain with a proposition: be her wingman to help her regain her pre-divorce confidence.

Suddenly, Dakota’s not just person I love to fight with. She’s the woman I want everything with.

Perfect for fans of:
• Enemies to Lovers
• Small Town Romance / Vacation Romances
• Quirky Animals
• Meddling family

This small town novel made me laugh from the very first page! It is completely unpredictable and the characters are unhinged, especially the male main character. This book is all about second chances and love. It is also about self worth and confidence. It is lighthearted, adventurous, emotional and hopeful! It came with a diverse cast of characters that are all lovable! It is a medium paced read that comes with a clever plot! It is both plot and character driven, with the flaws of the main characters as the main focus.

It is well written, easy to read and comes with vivid imagery. This is an enemies to lovers romance that comes with a lot of witty banter between the main characters! They end up going to a wedding in their small town and are forced to talk to each other. The hatred that the female main character has for the male main character is so strong! She does not shy away with how she feels about him, even after 7 years of not seeing each other! How they initially meet after years of not seeing one another is hilarious and random. They meet before the small town wedding, where they see each other again. The anger turns into love and a spicy great time! The spicy scenes were a bit cringy at times, but overall a good time. Some of the themes explored in this novel are forced proximity, enemies to lovers, second chances, family and relationships, finding love in unexpected places, and self worth and confidence. I had a lot of fun reading this book! I can’t wait till the next book comes out! I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars rating!

“Seven Year Itch” is about a recently divorcee woman named Dakota. The male main character named Calder and Dakota are put together by both attending a small town wedding. She still holds a strong grudge against him 7 years later and he didn’t seem to care for her either, after something had happened between the two of them. This fun vacation brings these two close and then they start becoming friends with benefits. This causes intense tension between them. This creates obstacles between them and concerns about their future together as a couple!

I think fans of a spicy romantic comedy with humor and witty banter would enjoy reading this book! Content warnings include sexual assault, body shaming, fat phobia, cursing, sexual content and death of a parent.

Thank you to NetGalley, author Amy Daws and Harlequin Trade Publishing | Canary Street Press for this electronic arc of this book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

This book is set to be published on June 17, 2025!

🌺 3.5 stars — Seven Year Itch by Amy Daws 🌺
Mountain Men Matchmaker #2
🎧 Narrated by Teddy Hamilton & Erin Mallon

Huge thanks to Harlequin Audio for the ALC via Netgalley 💌

This book was chaotic in the best kind of way—but also a little all over the place.

I came in hoping for laughs, spice, and enemies-to-lovers mess, and honestly? It delivered... kind of. The vibes were there. The tattooed mountain man? ✅ The fiery, recently-divorced heroine? ✅ The tropical forced proximity and meddling family antics? ✅✅✅

But there were moments where it leaned so far into the chaos that I had to pause and recalibrate.

🌴 What I liked:
✧ The humor. Calder’s unhinged Tinder bio? 10/10.
✧ Dakota’s post-divorce glow-up. She’s relearning her worth, her power, and her desires.
✧ The banter. Genuinely sharp and funny. They fight. They flirt. They combust.
✧ The spice. Okay, some scenes made me cringe, but others? 🔥
✧ The vulnerability. Calder letting his walls down was sweet and refreshing.
Cat dads with soft hearts? Yes please.
✧ Narration. Teddy Hamilton + Erin Mallon = ✨ audio perfection ✨

👀 What didn’t work for me:
The enemies dynamic felt extra. Like… bordering on immature at times.
The third act miscommunication? So unnecessary. You’re adults. Talk.
The pacing felt uneven—it bounced between emotional and absurd way too fast.

But there is heart beneath the chaos.
Dakota’s journey post-divorce was empowering, and her chemistry with Calder did eventually win me over. It’s messy, but sometimes love is. Especially when you’re dealing with history, hurt, and seven years of unresolved tension.

Final thoughts?
It’s a little unhinged, a little steamy, and very much small-town romcom energy. If you love Amy Daws’ chaotic brand of romance, you’ll have fun with this one—even if you occasionally roll your eyes along the way.

Read if you’re into:
🌺 enemies to lovers
🏔️ vacation chaos + wedding shenanigans
🌺 cat daddies with emotional depth
🏔️ confidence glow-ups + sex club exploration
🌺 meddling families who mean well (but never mind their business)

Sometimes it’s not about being perfect. Sometimes it’s just about showing up and trying again. And that’s what Seven Year Itch does—with messy flair and a lot of heat.

Oh my. I wish I never read this book. I finished it feeling disgusted and unsatisfied *sigh* This just solidifies that I will never read another rivals to lovers again by this author LOL

The girl was a mean, piece of shit woman and the guy is an insecure, uncommunicative guy. I guess they were made for each other *shrug*. 30- something men and women calling others names like Karen and Killer (of hopes and dreams variety) is not my idea of a good book =( They constantly have an end date to their relationship (ie first one is when they leave a destination wedding thinking its a one time thing and then when they have a PowerPoint presentation of sex acts they Can do together and then they’re done. Lordt)

The book starts off at a bdsm club and she’s there to get her groove back and dip her feet back in the dating pool. At a bdsm club. Because that’s how most people try to get back on that saddle! Of fucking course!

She is a recently divorced woman who owns a tshirt shop and her friend is getting married in….Mexico? He is the brother of the groom and his niece masterminds them getting together in a forced proximity situation. They have sex once while hating each other and calling each other names but also thinking the other is hAwT *rolls eyes* Apparently he worked to Reno her house in a previous time and a pipe burst and ruined her wedding dress before the wedding. We later find out that her ex husband did it.

They get back to the Colorado small town and they decide to just be fuck buddies while still calling each other names and being mean to each other. The things they would say about the others ( you can see them all on my kindle notes) made me make a face like a drank a whole glass of 3 week old milk left in the summer sun.

In the end, they say horrendous words to each other: the girl saying that he is a loser that has no ambitions than working for his family company that his dad handed to him and having no aspirations to work on his own shit and he tells her that she picked a asshole husband and that was on her. Also she’s a bitchy karen etc etc etc. she blames him for not telling her that her exhusband cheated on her before the wedding and blames him for wasting 7 years on. But why would he tell you when he doesn’t even really know you?! And she knows he had lots of red flags but marries the guy anyway because she just wanted to be married, she didn’t care about the who, what why how or when 🥴🥴🥴🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ fucking dumb ass bitch. Not sure wht this guy sees in her anyway 😂😂

But then he has her over for some truth telling night with all his family there and tells her that he wants to be with her. Like…..whut?! LOL, da FUQUE was DAT?

Anyway.

….

I did love the family dynamics and the niece Everly doing her hacking matchmaking bit. There is humor to offset the bitchy h and the beta H which kept me going and prevented another DNF book. But at what cost?…..AT WHAT COOOOOOOOOSSTTTTTTTTT?!?!

I wish I never read this.

I didn’t like the beginning scene of this book, and I probably should have DNF’d it, but I thought I’d give it a go because I liked the family aspect. Unfortunately that was the only thing I really liked. The narration was great also, but the story itself did not work for me.

Mood confession: I’m deep in the Mountain Men Matchmaker woods, and I can’t resist the rugged heroes and the magic brewing in every trope.

What Lit My Mood
The fresh setup: Calder and Dakota already know each other, and Dakota’s been holding a grudge for seven years, making him her sworn enemy.

Tropes I Devoured:
Enemies to lovers
Forced proximity: Calder’s just looking for a no-strings date for his brother Wyatt’s wedding… and ends up sharing a room with Dakota.
Grumpy/Sunshine: Broody mountain man hero who makes his love interest feel beautiful
Second chances
Curvy FMC
Animal lovers

Depth That Gave It Heart: Past abuse, courage to rebuild, personal growth, and body insecurities.

Dialogue Magic: I liked Calder’s awkward charm. Their banter had bite, just nasty enough to feel real between people who don’t get along but was sprinkled with sweetness that made the enemies-to-lovers vibe feel fresh and entertaining.

Where My Mood Flickered
Instant lust: Yep, that’s the hook here, but not for me.
Calder is every inch the alpha, loud-mouthed mountain man with a possessive streak. I think it was meant to read as endearing and protective, but at times it veered into demanding territory.

Witchy Heat Scale
Steam Rising from the Cauldron: The kind of heat that fogs your crystal ball and makes your tarot cards blush.

Witchy Mood Reader Rating
Moody Mismatch: The magic was there, but the energy was off with too much heated territory that dulled the spell

Verdict: Read it for the spicy enemies-to-lovers tension, stay for the banter that bites, and summon it after Nine Month Contract when you’re ready for enough heat to leave your crystal ball in a full-on steam bath.

Even though the heat in this one had this witch fanning her spellbook, I’m all in for the next installment. Honeymoon Phase. I am in for the tropes.

TLDR
Enemies-to-lovers? Forced proximity? A meddling family and a mountain man with a soft side? Sign. Me. Up.

A swoony, laugh-out-loud, enemies-to-lovers romance with heart, heat, and a bearded mountain man you’ll want to hug (and maybe yell at a little). Come for the forced proximity and sizzling banter—stay for the emotional payoff. Fans of small-town chaos and second chances will eat this up.

Synopsis
When grumpy mountain man Calder needs a no-strings date to his brother’s tropical destination wedding, the last person he expects to end up sharing a room with is Dakota—his sister-in-law’s fiery best friend and sworn nemesis. But when a heated moment in paradise blurs the line between enemies and something much steamier, what was supposed to stay on vacation refuses to be left behind. Now back in his small mountain town, Calder is stunned when newly divorced Dakota shows up asking for his help to get her confidence back. Their hilarious, fiery dynamic starts to shift into something deeper—but with meddling family, unexpected feelings, and plenty of unresolved tension, Calder and Dakota must decide if their vacation fling has what it takes to turn into forever.

Seven Year Itch is book 2 in the Mountain Men Matchmaker series! Technically it can stand alone but I highly recommend reading them in order because this one will contain spoilers from book 1. Plus, the first book is super funny and it’s worth reading anyway. That being said, this one was a lot of fun. It’s sort of a mix between Bridesmaid for Hire by Meghan Quinn (many of the same tropes/location for the wedding etc.) and The Salacious Players Club by Sara Cate. It’s got some serious enemies-to-lovers vibes and a friends with benefits romance. If you like any of these (plus a tatted lumberjack) then I think you’ll enjoy this one. The author does a great job at not only making this book funny but adding real and raw emotions to the characters to make them feel well rounded, whole, and realistic.

Good audiobook. Good humor. I like the dual narrators where there's a male narrator for the male character and female narrator for the female character for the entire book! This female narrator is a bit hm.. she dragged out her words so it's kind of I don't know.. annoying.

This story followed Dakota and Calder. Calder is a cat Daddy. He loves his cat named Milkshake (which brings up that song in my head) and takes it out for walks on the cat carrier. He's mad because his tinder profile was changed. He's on the hunt for whoever rewrote his profile. He yelled at his brother's fiancé but she told him it might've been his niece who is currently in school abroad. The second view is the niece and she's ecstatic to be the mastermind behind her uncle's new and improved tinder profile. She also has orchestrated her uncle Calder to bunk with his enemy Dakota for the duration of the wedding trip. Calder thought Dakota an irritating woman. He helped her with her remodeling 7 years ago and she was a nightmare to work with. Before the trip to Mexico for his brother's wedding, he's actively looking for a plus one to bring with. Then he ran into Dakota at a kink club. He saved her from a nasty man. But she thanked him by getting him kicked out of that club instead. An added reason to be angry at Dakota. Dakota came along to the trip because she's best friend to Calder's other sister-in-law. The other view was Dakota. She thought Calder good looking but mad at him every time she remembered about their history together.

Enemies to lover trope so.. the enemies part of the story was good. The lover part was good too. The romance was good.

I liked this one as well but not quite as much as the first one. the 3rd act breakup in this one really pissed me off but kind of in a good way lol I just felt like after they made up it was so rushed. I wish the breakup was a little sooner so there was more of them finally together! excited to read Luke's story next though! 💕

Big thank you to Harlequin Audio and NetGalley for the Advanced Listening Copy!

Seven Year Itch by Amy Daws gives us Calder and Dakota’s story, which we got a small glimpse of in the first book when they argued at a party. I enjoyed this book for the most part, but the audio completely sold me. Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon doing duet narration is my new favorite thing ever! They are always fantastic narrators separately, but in duet it’s a whole new level of immersion into the story!

There weren’t as many fun Fletcher family dynamics in this book, but the bones were there, especially in the beginning for the wedding scenes. I love how close the brothers are, and the sibling/uncle teasing is always hilarious! I think both Calder and Dakota had a lot of growing up to do in this book, and it got really messy/dramatic there for a bit. Let it be a lesson to everyone to learn how to communicate now so you’re not having easily fixable drama in your 30s. 😇 Dakota reclaiming her confidence after her divorce was really well done, and I think everything resolved nicely in the end. This book had a lot of heart and fun!

Overall this was sexy and full of banter, and perfect for a quick summer listen. 🩷

Seven Year Itch got all that rom com, small town feels about it. The characters are lovely and the banter is great.
But I wish Miss Daws putting more depth to the story instead just smut. More depth, more complex characters development.

No. Just no.
All smut, no plot, and I’m being so literal here. All they ever talk about is sex, all they do is have sex.
I tolerated the first book of the series, but this one was so irresistible to me, alright, I don’t know if I’m being harsh, but I can’t remember a single decent thing about it.
In all honesty, who does think of their cat sexually? WHAT
The MMC was frustrating, and I feel bad for Dakota.
The book would be good if it was written with less spice and more attention to the MCs falling in love, because frankly, sex isn’t love and vice versa.

I DNF’ed this after page 25…

Firstly, Calder’s tinder profile compares his dick size to his brother Luke’s… a little strange so I moved on. He’s convinced one of his brothers hacked into his account because it talks about how he wants to find someone and settle down.

Then we have this grown ass man who carries his cat in a baby carrier… okay sure, people do funny things for the animals they love - proceeded to refer to his cat as ‘my pussy’ … cringe.

If you haven’t read book 1 which I DNF’ed as well here’s a quick summary from what i had read until I DNF’ed.. (a surrogacy romance that I felt was not written sensitively - they made up their own contract and did an at home insemination and I just didn’t vibe with the characters at all, also… the female main character (Trista) compared the softness of the male main characters (Wyatt) mattress to that of a newborn’s foreskin… because foreskin is so soft… but not because foreskin is comfortable…because she hadn’t touched a dick in while… I don’t care of it was analogy… compare it to anything else… so yeah book 1 wasn’t for me.) Obviously, book 1 ended with the couple falling in love, getting engaged and having thier child.

From that, Calder literally says WORD FOR WORD about his brother Wyatt’s fiancée… “My brother went from never wanting a wife so much that he was looking for a surrogate to have a baby for him to now preparing to fly us all to Mexico so we can watch him marry his INCUBATOR turned fiancée in a couple week. It’s enough to make a guy puke.”
I’m sorry but you called a woman who carried a baby and gave birth (doesn’t matter that she was a surrogate) a INCUBATOR???? Maybe the joke flew over my head but I couldn’t laugh at that at all. THIS WAS ON PAGE 4… I was ready to DNF from that…

So I tried to keep going… the tinder profile getting hacked… yeah. Everyone thinks it was the 19-year-old niece… Every. Single. Person believes the niece hacked into her uncles account where he compares dick sizes with her other uncle… seriously?? Weird…. Weird. Weird.

Moving on… Calder is a sex positive man who likes to explore and experiment… i.e going to sex clubs right? Cool cool. He sees Dakota (Trista’s best friend and the woman he doesn’t like because of a renovation project he did on HER HOUSE that didn’t go well.) there too… a first time for him as he’s a ‘regular’ at this sex club and here’s the sequence of events that happens;
1. See’s her there with someone because she’s clearly trying to experiment right and get her confidence back after her divorce from her horrible husband… But she gets uncomfortable so she opts out with the safe word and the DOM questions her by saying “your only, meant to use the safe word when I’m pushing you to your limits” I don’t know much about BDSM but I thought that it didn’t matter if your doing the act or not… a sub can use the safe word if they aren’t comfortable… anyway. What would I know…
2. She storms off and he finds himself ‘not paying attention to the groups of people pleasuring each other’ because he’s focused on the bane of his existence.
3. Calder then says “Dakota is… well, if I’m being blunt, she’s a bitch. She knows it all, she doesn’t want anyone else opinion, she’s demanding, nagging and just… yeah, a total fucking Karen.” YET HE CAN’T LOOK ANYWAY FROM HER?!?!
4. He doesn’t like her and yet when a random guy approaches her he gets all possessive? And yanks her away to a closet…
5. Asks her to COVER UP because it’s distracting him even though they are at a sex club to EXPRESS THEMSELVES?!?! “I’m offering you my shirt because I can’t talk to you while you’re half naked” he says half naked himself…
6. Asking her if shes here to find a new husband(she got divorced a year ago)… she bites back with asking him if he’s trying to find a wife… “I come here regularly for fun. You sure as fuck don’t.” IS SHE NOT ALLOWED TO ALSO HAVE FUN?!?! Like wtf???
7. Calder tells her she’s ’too young for a sex club’ when she’s TWO YEARS YOUNGER THAN HIM?!?! To which Calder replies with “And a hell of a lot more experienced, which is why I know that a place like this isn’t for a girl like you.” ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?! So he’s allowed to have fun and have sex but SHE CAN’T?!?! I get the whole ‘you shouldn’t be here’ vibe but this was a bit too far for me… in world where women get told they should feel ashamed for wanting to express themselves… I kind of expected better from a female author… as I said, I get that Calder doesnt like her

I stopped reading after that. I just did not vibe with this book. Calder was NOT likeable… I usually like the playboys who are commitment-phobes but Calder was really not it. Dakota was the only saving grace for the one chapter I actually got to meet her in. At least she stood up to him… or does that make her a Karen…. Like. The fact that Dakota was making decisions about HER HOUSE and wasn’t open to some of Calder’s idea shouldn’t make her a ‘bitch’ or a ‘raging Karen’. Like I get ‘enemies to lover’ but even that was intense…

So yeah… this book was NOT for me and I will not be picking up another book by Amy… sorry. Maybe I’m too sensitive but I can usually read anything… this was just not it…

Thank you to the publishers I won an ARC from for an honest review from me…

Spicy, fun romp, with great mid-size rep.

I do love these mountain men - Nine Month Contract was a silly good time and this was no different.

What’s to love…
- spectacular mid-size rep, it felt real, relatable and it was wonderful to see her journey
- Spice was fabulous.
- A+ tension
- 10/10 banter
- cat-dad + furniture building mountain man MMC
- playboy turned total simp for the FMC
- divorced mid-30s FMC

What’s not to love…
- these are fun & sexy, but if you’re looking for a ton of emotional depth this probably isn’t the right read for you.

Audio Narration: Absolutely loved the male narrator he was great. The female narrator was not it, the extension at the end of every sentence made this a difficult listen for me. I also felt her voices for other characters were entirely too similar to her own and it was had to determine who was who, at times. This is one I would recommend reading via print. I think the female narrator really detracts from the reading experience.

This was such a FUN read! Amy knows how to incorporate comedy into her romance books with such ease. I was giggling and kicking my feet like a school girl the whole time.

- Enemies-to-lovers
- Mountain Man
- Cat Daddy (MMC wears his cat in a legit cat carrier)
- Recently divorced FMC
- Sex Club Exploration
- Enemies W/Benefits
- MMC Falls First

Calder is THAT MAN and by THAT MAN I mean, he is tatted, bearded, and full of muscle. He knows how to love a woman and has taken on the task of getting Dakota out of her post-divorce slump and help her get her confidence back while also being her number one enemy.. why? He ruined her wedding dress 7 years ago.

But, when they both attend Calder’s brother’s wedding in Mexico, they decide to have one night to let go of the past and have a passion filled night.. which turns into an enemies w/benefits arrangement.

Amy Daws has done it again! To say I was excited for this book was an understatement. Nine Month Contract was one of my unexpected favorites last year. And I’ve been dying for more of the Fletcher brothers ever since. Let me tell you Calder did not disappoint. Plus Dakota as our MFC also knocked it out of the park.

I’m going to start this with my one and only con of this book. The miscommunication/third act break up trope between Calder & Dakota made me want to pull my hair out. Y’all know this is one of my biggest pet peeves and I love Amy dearly but how it was pulled off here I have to say wasn’t a fan. It honestly felt unnecessary, both characters had been working and progressing so well with communicating about their insecurities and then randomly they do a 180. It just didn’t make sense and messed with the story flow. Thankfully it didn’t last long and both parties pulled their heads out of their butts.

Besides that this book was a blast. Seven Year Itch is a spicy enemies to lovers romance. Filled with laughter, angst and tears. I found both Calder and Dakota to be easy to read and extremely relatable. Especially Calder with dealing with feeling left behind and never taken seriously.

Calder & Dakota as a couple were magnetic. They truly are the real definition of enemies to lovers. Their arguments and disagreements were intense. But even with that push and pull dynamic they still supported each other and pushed one another out of their comfort zones. Plus my personal favorite the PowerPoints ;)

Lastly, the Amy Daws banter was phenomenal as usual. I’m glad I decided to read this at home and instead of work cause I definitely would’ve gotten some weird looks for several of this books lol moments.

Of course if you can’t already tell, I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to own my trophy copy. Thank you again to Amy Daws and Canary Street Press for the ARC. All thoughts are my own.

You know those pictures of big eyed children? They are objectively bad, but people love them, and that is enough. That is this book. It is really not good, and I loved it, and it made me feel swoony and happy and 100% immersed. Win! (I hated the cat daddy thing --that was just unappealing -- and the thought that a woman feeling insecure about her sex skills would visit a bdsm club, but otherwise it was all yes.)

As someone who lives in Colorado I’m so glad when people write about Colorado and actually know about the geography so I’m not rolling my eyes constantly.

I really enjoyed this book! Definitely enemies to lovers with a lot of spice and secrets. Both characters made me mad throughout the book, but they just needed to grow up.

There was one too many cat/ p*ssy references that got to be too much for me. And the middle of the book kinda dragged for me, it could have been a bit shorter.

Overall it was a fun read and I enjoyed the audiobook! Thanks to The Hive for sending me a copy of this book📚
