David Harwood, a twenty-six-year-old womanizer and former frat boy, is tasked with leading Sports Informer, the flagship magazine of his father’s publishing empire. But there’s one problem: David can’t keep an assistant—his charm and disregard for boundaries have caused him to go through six assistants in less than a month. To curb his reckless habits, his father hires Jamie Dodson, a reserved twenty-two-year-old with a heart of gold and a strong sense of family duty.
Initially reluctant to work alongside a male assistant, David soon discovers that Jamie’s quiet determination and unwavering loyalty make him an unexpected ally. But when David's friend pushes him to haze Jamie with one ridiculous task after another, the fun turns sour, leading to Jamie’s resignation.
Realizing his mistake and the hurt he caused, David seeks to make amends and convinces Jamie to return. As they collaborate to launch David’s first issue, an undeniable attraction blossoms between them. With emotional baggage weighing on their budding relationship, David must confront his own feelings and the possibility of real change. Will he rise above his womanizing ways, or will he risk losing the one person who has the potential to change him for good?
Harry Applebottom is a hopeful romantic and a gay erotic romance author here to unabashedly satiate and titillate your inner carnal desires with lots of steam, heart, and love. Harry's works range from short stories and novellas to full-length novels of various subgenres, where every ending ends with a happy one.
If you loved Ugly Betty, you'll love this book! We have Jamie, the eager assistant who wants a shot at the magazine world while also looking after his family, and David, who has just been given a magazine company to look after as his first project. Just like Ugly Betty, we start the book with David, who is unable to keep it in his pants with his female assistants. What I really enjoyed about this was how raw and gritty it was - it really felt like looking through the lens of a man who objectifies every situation he's in. His father hires Jamie in an attempt to keep his eyes on the prize. The book lost a star for me just because of how closely it follows the plot of Ugly Betty to begin with. Not only does Jamie start getting bullied at this company, but they do the whole 'photoshoot' scene with him as well. I kinda chuckled at that and it made me want to rewatch Ugly Betty, but it definitely pulled me out of the situation. I think the heat between the protagonists was amazing! I think the author really did well with making me believe it. I also love that although David has only been with women, and he's slightly confused about his feelings towards a man, he doesn't think about it that deeply. He does what makes him feel good and right and doesn't worry about what others will think or what his sexuality is. It was refreshing to read a book where a character just acts and doesn't have a six part break down about whether or not they're 'now gay'. I would have also liked to have seen a bit more conversation on the 'nepo baby' side of things. David is born into privilege (not his fault), but it's really glossed over. Sure, he has struggles, and he wants to make his father proud and do a good job for the magazine, but he was literally handed a whole company. I think I would have preferred to see a push and pull of talent between our main characters, with Jamie having to teach him some of his job, but David showing his willingness to learn and adapt. I would have respected David more for that, rather than me just not caring as much about him. The sex scenes were great as well! I wanted to see more of them because of how well they were written. Like I said earlier, the author has this raw and gritty way of writing these scenes and they were captivating! I thoroughly enjoyed the plot around their loss of close relatives, and how we're seeing someone go through a traumatic experience. Jamie was a very good person for all he did. However, I find that in one scene Jamie questions if his family is actually helping him with his grandfather, and he's suspicious he's not getting the care he deserves, but that conversation is dropped super quickly. No one spoke about it again and it was like some characters got away with neglect and not caring for their grandfather. I found this book thoroughly entertaining - I loved the romance and the spice was spicing! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a pleasantly surprising and overall fun book with a more serious undertone then I was expecting. Based on the blurb I expected a more bully heavy, hate to love romance, but instead it was more of an office friends to lovers romance and it immediately sucked me in. The progression of Jamie and Davis relationship was fun and I loved how they had individual character growth as they developed their relationship. Personally, I love a romance book that has the individual characters grow because of their budding love for one another.
While the romance was the central focus of the book, David and Jamie both had subplots centered around their families and familial relationships, which really gave the story an unexpected depth. Everything was extremely well balanced and was equally invested in the more dramatic subplots as I was in the romance. I also really liked the side characters and thought their inclusion just added to the story, and I liked how they not only supported David and Jamie’s relationship, but they provided Jamie and David much needed new perspectives about themselves. Of course there were some very good spicy scenes, but they just added to they story and didn’t dominate the whole book.
I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a quick spicy office romance, with complex characters and family dynamics to get lost in for a few hours.
His Assistant by Harry Applebottom is a boss/assistant love story that doesn’t start out well but as the main characters get to know each other they find a huge attraction that eventually leads to love. David Harwood has just become the editor in chief of Sports Informer magazine which is part of his father’s publication empire. It’s his first big job and he wants to make his father proud. The problem is that he was a star womanizer during college and this continued into his job as he went through 6 assistants in a month. When his father caught him in a very compromising situation with the last one, he decided to take matters into his own hands and hired his next one – a man. Jamie Dobson is the meaning of a caretaker. His grandfather was his father figure throughout his life and he has continued to take care of him for the last 4 years when it was discovered that he had dementia as he completed college on line. He lives with his cousin Chloe, her daughter Jade, and his brother Shaun and they all live in his grandfather’s house. Now he has the opportunity to do something for himself and he has been interested in finding a job in the publishing field, hopefully to lead his own magazine someday. He has applied for the assistant job to get a start and Alfred, David’s father, is very impressed with him and hires him. He is excited but on the first day one of David’s oldest friends shows up and they decide to mess with him, which he puts up with until something happens that he can’t any more so he quits. When David finds out what went really down to cause that he told the friend to leave and went after Jamie and found him at his house. He apologizes and Jamie agrees to come back to work for him. When he shows up the next day, David is working on the newest issue of the magazine that is coming out on Father’s Day. In order to show he father he is capable of handling the business he wants to come up with a new idea and Jamie helps him with it. They are then starting to feel an attraction to each other but David is straight so Jamie doesn’t pursue it, besides, he’s not the kind of guy that would do that as he is straight forward and pretty innocent. When Alfred sees the new idea David has, he is livid because he basically had the magazine done and berates him to the point David leaves before he says something he shouldn’t. But once again Jamie steps in and helps bring the two men, who were never that close, together and hopefully have a better relationship. They go out to a bar to celebrate and end up back at David’s condo which of course leads to some experimentation and their attraction explodes. An old boyfriend that left Jamie texts him which causes some anxiety but in the end it leads to them being exclusive and to some hot love scenes. When something happens to Jamie’s beloved grandfather, David is there for him and his family and helps them out in several ways. They head to David’s family’s cabin in the woods and it is there that they declare their love and are looking forward to their future together. I really enjoyed this story. David has finally realized he has to grow up and needs to do his best at his job and not let distractions get in his way. He hasn’t felt a lot of love and connections and wants to have them in his life. He gets those from Jamie who is straight forward, vulnerable, and kind. Jamie’s family, especially his grandfather, are everything to him and he will do anything for them. He has had a somewhat secluded life and feels safe and seen with David. Their love affair slowly grows but they both see things in the other that makes them feel content, needed, and wanted. David’s father and Jamie’s family play a big part in the story and in getting them to their happily ever after. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like boss/assistant stories where both men have to prove themselves through some adversity and then find what they are looking for in each other which leads to love.
We’ve all fallen for the straight frat boy because of their good looks and smooth way of talking that just makes you feel oh so good. But what if that frat boy is your boss, and he’s maybe not as straight as you thought? And what if he is falling for you?
David, the typical womanizing, gets what he wants, and kind of an ass ex-Frat boy who only cares about himself and getting himself off. Yep, he sounds exactly like a guy I’ve fallen for before. Then there’s Jaime. This sweet and shy guy believes the best in everyone, even through all the things he’s been through.
I swear, I already hated David for personal and somewhat obvious reasons. But when it got to the chapter about him and his best friend playing a horrible prank on Jaime, I just wanted to smack both of them and stop reading. However, when David pulled that Prince Charming move to defend Jaime, I just got all sappy on the inside and was low-key rooting for David. From that moment, we start to see a new side to David that is shocking but, at the same time, not. Regardless, it makes you want to like David more and continue to root for him.
At the same time, we see Jaime become more confident and come out of his shell. I mean, standing up to your boss’s Dad, who hired you and calling him stupid is courageous. It couldn’t be me; I would be cowering in the corner. But it was nice to see Jaime standing up and defending someone. It just solidifies that he is a good person and wants the best for people. I could learn more from Jaime, to be honest.
It was such a cute story after the initial chapters, and seeing both David and Jaime grow with each other made it feel so heartwarming. But let us not forget the steamy sex scenes, I’m going to need a fan for these scenes. It’s not that there were these insane scenes, but the level of intimacy between the two of them and how the chemistry was just from the first time they touched each other to the first time they had sex was just so well written. It wasn’t trashy like some authors make it. No, this was just sweet and loving.
The only thing I didn’t like, and what brought it down to 4 stars, was how fast everything went. It just zoomed by and went to a time jump, and I left wanting to know what happened during that time jump and wanting to know more about David and Jaime’s relationship. Aside from that, it was still a really good story, and it felt authentic and not forced. I know it says it is not part of a series, but I secretly hope it does come with a second book.

David Harwood, a womanizer and proud of it, is enjoying the thrill of a bit of “inappropriate fun” with his newest assistant, Sydney Campbell. Within the glass walls of his office, after hours, he’s not likely to get caught -- but the thrill alone made it worth doing since everyone else had gone home for the day. He had gone through five different assistants in only 3 weeks, 3 quitting and 2 signing an NDA and accepting a payoff from his father. The women had all wanted him, so it wasn’t his fault. But when he opened his eyes, panic struck as he saw his father walking toward him before he could warn Sydney to come out from under the desk. His father asked what he was doing after hours and he pretended to be reviewing the mockup of his first issue as editor of Sports Informer. So his father, who had prepared it for him, asked what he thought of it so far. David had done nothing at all on it but said it still needed work. So his father asked to be shown where the improvement was needed. David snatched it away and said he had to do it himself and his father was actually pleased -- until he asked about David’s new assistant. David lied so his father asked her to come out from under the desk. And when she explained she was tying David’s shoes under there, he fired her and told his son he would be providing his next assistant.
Jamie Dodson was the new hire. He was kind, honest, loyal, hard-working, and believed in family. But David apparently is still lacking good sense and allowed an old college friend, Chase Wilding, to ridicule Jamie and goad David into becoming the boss from hell, making Jaime do a load of stupid, tedious tasks, cross his boundaries, and make the job so unbearable that he will quit. Then, according to Chase, he can hire a woman who was made for a submissive position to work for him and train her to be his mistress. So David agreed as Chase made a list of cruel things that would get rid of Jaime. Will David finally wise up and recognize what he did was wrong? Will he ask Jaime to return? And would the two of them get closer if Jaime came back, if they were able to make amends and were willing to start over?
This reads like a really good Wattpad story. I don't mean that as an insult in this case. What I mean is that the author had a good idea and somewhat decent execution, for the most part. In many ways, isn't bad for a novel being published without the support of a big, professional team.
The problem comes in where the author uses close to the correct word or uses the correct word in the wrong tense or with the wrong combination of supporting words.
It's off. The sentences feel off. So it makes the story feel off and it's jarring and pulled me out of the story just long enough for me to lose much of my enjoyment.
"He gathered onto his knees"
"Heat flurried up Jamie’s face"
"The in and out motion of David’s **** foraging his mouth and throat."
What?!?! He's searching for wild food resources in there? Are there berries and mushrooms hiding behind Jamie's molars?
"Jamie squeezed David’s breast."
"He flooded Jamie’s orifice". 🤯 Wow. I can't. But, I couldn't stop reading this.
"Blood pounded into the chambers of his shaft"
"A smile cracked onto his mouth."
"Jamie jumped in his frame and squealed. " **lots of jumping in their frames. Frames did quite a bit of vibrating, too.
There are also some really strange scenes where we are in one of the main character's head and he is justifying his attraction to the other main character by comparing him to women and saying that he kind of looks like a woman in certain ways.
I encourage this author to continue writing and publishing, while working with a team that can help him clean up his word usage, and some of the awkward stereotyping and general awkwardness.
Throughly enjoyed this read David was taking over his father‘s magazine sports informer and he wants to make his dad proud but he also has a problem with the ladies and so far within a month six secretaries had gone. Don’t get me wrong all the ladies didn’t need much encouragement, but it wasn’t good for business. When his father catches him with one of the secretaries he tells David that he will be the one to employ a new assistant. And he finds Jamie who has a really good head on his shoulders. He comes from a good family with morals. He’s taken care of his grandfather for four years as a carer but now and he got a job working for a magazine which had always been his dream. He had been told by his grandad that to start at the bottom and make your way up is the right way to go. The meeting with David goes well to begin with but after he meets his friend chase things go badly downhill which ends with Jamie slapping chase and handing in his notice. When David finds out what his friend has done, he makes it crystal clear that Chase is no longer allowed in the building or anywhere near him. And he goes to Jamie‘s house to apologise and ask him to come back but will Jamie go back?? I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I really enjoyed David’s character and his morals and standing up for Jamie. These two make a good couple they bring out the best in each other and help with family. This is one book I could see me re-reading.

I love stories that take place in an office because I worked in an office as a legal assistant for more than 20 years, and am very familiar with all types of office environments. Almost everything you read about the things that go on in an office are actually true. There were many scandals--bosses having affairs with their secretaries or assistants were the most common (sometimes leading to unwanted pregnancies), but there were also thefts of company funds, stealing of each other's clients, wives coming to the office when their husbands were "busy", and etc. I'm sure this happens in other work environments too, such as hospitals and other large institutions, but more than likely among their office staff rather than the workers.
In this story we have David, a rebelious womanizer who works in his father's publishing conglomerate, but he disappoints his father by creating scandals with each female assistant and as a result he loses one assistant after another. In order to avoid any further office scandals by his son, his father hires a male secretary instead. Now there will be no more office scandals with his son, right? It just so happens that the new assistant (Jamie) happens to be gay, but that won't matter because David isn't gay, is he? Well, you probably have already figured out where this story is headed, but you really need to read this book to see how this plays out. It's one of my favorite books so far this year.
My first Harry book and I am obsessed. His Assistant was excellent! I read it all in one day basically! It made me feel the butterflies of pure love, but also had great moments of sadness.
You get to meet millionaire fuckboy (Jamie's words not mine) David, heir to a publishing company. He can't keep his dick out of his assistants mouths so his dad hires a Male Assistant Jamie ( a precious ray of sunshine wrapped in diamonds) WE LOVE JAMIE he is kind he is love and innocent pure baby gorgeous.
These two men end up being each other's rocks to become better versions of themselves. They do have some bumps throughout, but what relationship doesn't?
The first or second chapter made me tear up during the hazing, I felt Jamie's hurt and then you could feel the regretDavid felt for what his "friend" does to Jamie.
Hurt Comfort Boss Employee lust and passion True love
'Tomorrow, his whole world would change. It was a scary realization, but he would be able to overcome whatever obstacles came his way because he was resilient, and he was strong.'
I really loved this book. It was a fun concept and I couldn't wipe the smirk off my face: David keeps sleeping with his assistants (the women each made it clear they wanted him, too), so after losing six of them in a month, David's father hires Jamie for the job. Having a man for his assistant, surely this time David would stay focused. All my brain thought was: 'challenge accepted!'
But in all seriousness, I really loved both David and Jamie. I liked their initial meeting and how they connected. Chase was a bad influence, and some stupid stuff- and then some completely inappropriate stuff- stuff happened because of it. How David handled things told me who he is and I love how things went from their. I liked their easy banter and how they just clicked. I like the chemistry growing between them and David's bi-awakening. I really thought they were cute together.
I also loved most of the supporting characters- Jamie's family, and I really liked David's father.
Another great romance from Harry Applebottom! 5 stars
This was a short sweet story from a new to me author that you can read in a few hours.
David has been going through female assistants in speed record and his dad is seriously fed up with it. So he hires Jamie to make sure David concentrates more on work and less on pleasure.
Jamie hasn't got the easiest life, he's taking care of his grandfather who's suffering from dementia. He's in dire need of a job so when he's hired as David's assistant, he's over the moon as they get along great. Unfortunately things take a turn and David ends up doing something dispicable causing Jamie to quit. David immediately realises though the mistake he made and tries to make amends.
It was hard to like David in the beginning of the story, Jamie was such a sweetheart and didn't deserve how he was treated. This is a short story that packs a lot in a short time, and it sometimes seemed a bit rushed to me, but that is personal opinion.
If you're in for a sweet romance with a slow burn than this is your book.
*ARC kindly received from the author via Booksirens. This is my honest opinion.*
This was a sweet, poignant and romantic story by this author who usually tends to lean towards erotic insta love stories.
A compromising situation leads Mr. Harwood Snr. to fire his womanising son David’s assistant and hires a male assistant Jamie Dodson instead thinking and hoping his son will leave this one alone and prove himself after going through 6 assistants in his first month as acting Editor in Chief for his fathers sports magazine….
I did not like the character David portrayed in the beginning but as he started showing immense maturity and personal growth when a horrific situation with Jamie occurs, and he redeemed himself, he started growing on me…
Jamie was a real innocent sweetheart that swept his straight womanising boss off his feet just by being himself and showing empathy and understanding…
The bond they formed with their connection was so beautiful ,deep and emotional and it just grew stronger every day!
They made a fantastic team together and with Jamie’s close family David found the closeness he never had with his father!

I enjoyed this story His Assistant by Harry Applebottom. David goes through assistant’s quickly so his father decides that he’ll hire the next one and Jamie is that person, problems arise on the first day after David’s friend Chase arrives at the office and by the end of the day Jamie is very upset and has quit but David feels bad and goes to Jamie’s house to speak to him and they spend time together with his family and after he agrees to come back to work their friendship and relationship both working and personal really starts to develop which confuses David at first as he always believed himself to be straight but there is just something about Jamie and we get a beautiful story of how they fall in love.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The start was a bit blood-pressure raising, but it was only the first few chapters. I really didn't like David in the beginning, and especially hated Chase. Jamie seemed so innocent and pure, that I wanted just to shield him from the craziness of David.
But David realised quite quickly how badly he had messed up, and then atoned himself.
Everything happened in a really short amount of time, but since there was a lot happening at all times, it felt like the story spanned a lot longer timeframe than it did. Slow burn in a sense that pagewise it took a while, but not in the timespan of the story.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a great quick read. I wasn’t sure where it was going to go at first but the story moves quickly and things happen fast. Felt bad for Jamie, he has a lot of things happen to him but I like that this story doesn’t have a lot of other women/men drama or any 3rd act breakups. I like seeing the story progress without the drama in the relationship so that made this book really enjoyable. I also really like that there wasn’t the struggle of figuring what they wanted out or second guessing the relationship as well. It was a low stress read. I highly recommend.
I really love this MM romance novel. It puts hallmark movies to shame. It’s a cute romance about Jamie, who takes care of his grandfather, until money is of the essence and gets a job as an assistant to a nepo baby womanizer David, who has a bi awakening after meeting Jamie. I loved how in this story you see both characters live and learn. How Jamie needs to learn to live for himself and be strong, David has to learn to put someone else first. It’s a sexy romance that follows two people as they grow and make mistakes,
Love a good boss/assistant book and this is amazing! Enter former playboy that drastically needs to change his ways and the writer that needs a job. The beginning starts off a little rough when David gets caught in a compromising position and then decides to follow advice on “hazing” his new assistant which was not so nice, but he quickly learns the error or his ways for Jamie. Heat is all through this book and I love how David finds his footing and matures and Jamie is steadfast and gets everything he’s ever wanted.
Overall, I really enjoyed the story—it’s fun, interesting, and the characters have great chemistry. David and Jamie’s dynamic is sweet once it gets going. But honestly, I wish the romance had more time to breathe. Everything happens in just a few days, which made it feel rushed and a little unbelievable. This had the potential to be a beautiful slow-burn romance if it played out over weeks or even months.
Still, it’s an enjoyable, emotional read with a satisfying arc.

Womanizing playboy working for his father, burning through assistants with his frat boy good looks. Enter Jamie, David's new male assistant. He should be able to keep his hands to himself, right?
Not so straight David learns he has developed a case of feels for another man. Uh oh. Now what?
Great characters, angsty storyline. Growth of the characters... I really enjoyed watching David grow up and take responsibility for his hurtful actions. Really enjoyed this book!.

Workplace boundaries get tested in this sizzling office romance where professionalism takes a backseat to undeniable chemistry. With sharp banter, slow-burning tension, and plenty of heart, it’s a story that proves sometimes the best promotions come with a side of passion. A fun, flirty, and oh-so-addictive read!.

David runs through assistants like water at his father's magazine publishing house with affairs. His father hires his seventh assistant in a month, Jamie, a man thinking this will stop that practice. But Jamie is the only one Davis really falls for. Even though they are boss and employee, they become friends, build on that leading to steamy times in this sweet story. Jaime is a winner and brings out the best in David. I read a copy of this through BookSirens and this is my voluntary opinion.
If you're looking for a heartwarming office romance, this book about a boss and his assistant is a lovely choice. Both male leads are incredibly sweet and their growing affection for each other is genuinely swoon-worthy. The story skillfully handles their initial challenges, allowing a strong friendship and then a tender romance to develop. The writing is truly excellent and makes for an enjoyable read. So Alfred, who is David’s father and the owner of a men’s sports magazine, is concerned about his behavior. See, David is being trained to take over the magazine once Alfred retires. However David has a problem, actually a huge & costly problem. David tends to have sex with every female assistant he hires. So Alfred has a plan, and his name is Jamie. David's new gay assistant.
I read the first few chapters and i found it interesting but then it felt like everything was happening too fast. They developed feelings too fast, especially the "straight" guy. I guess i just expected more of a slow burn. But others might enjoy it.

David loves women especially his assistants, they come & go as fast as a door open & closes. Unfortunately for David, his father, the head of the company has decided he has had enough and hires the next assistant for David. Jamie is the next assistant to reach David's desk, unfortunately for David, he's a guy. They get off on the wrong foot thanks to interference from David's friend but things end up righting itself. Being male, David & Jamie actually learn what it is like to learn from each other & build a work relationship into something meaningful. I really enjoyed "His Assistant" by Harry Applebottom. It was a great, fun, spicy quick read. The pace is quite fast but for me, that did not take anything away from the story. It felt like one of those "when you know, you know" situations. They had a connection and leaned into it, no angst, no struggle, no drama. I always enjoy books by this author and am looking forward to more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I'm glad David finally grew up and kicked his frat buddy to the curb when he assaulted Jamie. David apologized to Jamie and they work together making a great team. Their romance builds slowly and becomes a strong love. I liked how Jamie impresses David's father and how David helped save Jamie's family home.
Sweet love story. Low angst. David’s development through the book was refreshing. And the love story between he and Jamie was heart-warming. It was a down-to-Earth book and I appreciated being a part of Jamie and David’s lives for a short time.
