Devney Perry's books are becoming my newest favorite addiction. I fell in love with her when I read The Coppersmith Farmhouse and that has most definitely carried over with The Clover Chapel. This series is refreshing and sexy, addictive and heart stopping, and once you start reading you'll be hooked. Romantic suspense that captivates you from the first to the very last page, I have to say, I more than recommend it.

The Jamison Valley Series consists of two novels so far: The Coppersmith Farmhouse and The Clover Chapel. Both books are standalone novels that follow two different couples. That said, I recommend that you read these books in order. So many of the characters you meet in the first novel show up in the second, and the Coppersmith storyline is talked about in The Clover Chapel. The thing that makes this series so great is that we get to see the previous couples in the new books. It builds, getting better and better over time.

The Clover Chapel focuses on Nick and Emmy. These two have an intense chemistry that you feel right from the start. They fell in love one night in Vegas and got married in a dizzying, fairy tale romance come true. But the next day Emmy wakes up and her groom, Nick, has left. Fast forward 9 years, and they've had no contact at all. There's been no closure. Emmy has no idea what happened to Nick. She has so many questions she's sure she'll never find answers to. But life goes on, and so has Emmy. After living the high life in Manhattan, she's exhausted from her father's demands and the social requirements of city life. She decides to escape and spend a year teaching Kindergarten in Prescott. But what she thinks will be a time to relax, turns into way more than she could have ever expected.

Nick's regretted walking away from Emmy for the last nine years. A day never goes by where he doesn't think of his wife, but his only wish for her is that she's out there living the happy life he knew he could never give her. Living in Prescott, Nick works as the local Fire Chief. Life for him is good, but it's about to get better when the second chance he never imagined he would get is put right within his reach. Nick and Emmy sizzle on the pages with a sweet dynamic that takes instant control of your heart. I loved reading their love story and simply put, I couldn't get enough.

I really adore how layered this series is. Not only do we have a romance aspect that's slow-burning and delicious, but we have the suspense element woven into the background that leaves you on the edge of your seat. Devney's a fantastic writer who works to develop her characters, giving them depth and life one word at a time.

Overall, I loved The Clover Chapel. I can't wait to see where this series goes as a whole and to read as all the stories! Addicting and fun, sexy and heartwarming, this is definitely a favorite of mine. One I would absolutely recommend you adding to your reading list.

You’ve always had my heart, Emmy. We’re it for each other. I thought about you every day for nine years.

WOW!!! This book was pure Alpha romance perfection!! I loved every single word and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a gorgeous, sexy, well-written second chance romance that will make your heart race as two estranged lovers who were married in a whirlwind ceremony are reunited after a nine year long separation only to find that the intensity of the love they shared is just strong as they day they were separated...

After falling in love with Devney Perry's writing earlier this year in The Coppersmith Farmhouse (my review), I was incredibly excited to read whatever she wrote next! While each book in this series is a standalones, the characters are all part of a small town and so there are delightful crossovers and cameos that are a treat to any reader who is familiar with the couples from previous books. New readers however can jump right in too.

The Clover Chapel was Nick and Emmy's book. Their story began nine years ago in Vegas where one wild night led to an spontaneous marriage between these two strangers from opposite sides of the country who shared little in common other than their undeniable attraction to each other and sparking chemistry. But when Emmy woke up the next morning, her gorgeous new husband Nick was gone leaving nothing behind but a note.

Nearly a decade later, she needed an escape from the stifling city life she'd never even wanted. Finally determined to pursue a career she'd always dreamed about, she accepted a teaching post in a small town and her whole world turned upside down when she arrived and came face to face with long lost husband.

Nick had regretted leaving her since the moment he'd walked away and even though he'd done so for noble reasons, now that he was facing a second chance with the only woman he had ever loved, he was determined to do everything in his power to win back her trust and give them the happily ever after they'd always deserved...

She took a dare and fell in love. Truth would have been the smarter choice.

After years of living under her father’s thumb, Emmeline is ready to break free. She’s abandoned her life as a New York socialite to follow her dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher in a small, wholesome town. Seeing the man that nearly broke her was absolutely not what she had hoped to find in Prescott, Montana.

Nick hasn’t seen his Emmy in nine years, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten a thing about the woman he loves. After just one blissful night as man and wife, he gave her up, sacrificing his own happiness to keep her safe—far away from him. But the moment she walks back into his lonely life is the moment he decides never to let her go again. He won’t waste his second chance. All he has to do is win back Emmeline’s heart, keep her safe from the shadows in his past and prove to her that taking a wager on him is a sure bet.

OH MY HEAVENS, YOU GUYS!!! There was SO MUCH SWOON in this book! I swear to you, Nick will melt your heart over and over and over and over again! Ahhhh even just that moment when they first saw each other again after such a long separation was pure, palm-tingling book magic!

Devney Perry's books deliver that exact perfect balance between everything I love to read about in romance. Her writing FLOWS effortlessly -- it's brimming with emotions and sensual heat, and manages to be equally character and plot driven. Once I started reading this book, I just didn't want to put it down even for a minute.

“If you keep looking at my mouth, I’m going to kiss you,” he said.

I absolutely loved that even though they'd been separated for over nine years, Nick treated her with such deep love and respect even from the start of their reunion. He had been the one to leave her in Vegas and that guilt weighed heavily on his shoulders. But he'd had a solid reason for doing so -- right or wrong, at the time he truly believed it was the only way to protect her. But now that she'd come into his life again, he wasn't going to let her go until he'd shown her the depth of his love.

“Emmy.”
“Emmeline!”
“Emmy. You’ll always be my Emmy.”
“I’m not your anything, Nick."
“You’re my wife.”
“A paper certificate does not make me your wife,” I said.
His frame deflated and his eyes filled with regret. “Forgive me. Give us a chance. We have something here and you know I’m right… Your heart still belongs to me.”

My heart broke for Nick even while I understood Emmy's reluctance to trust him. But anyone who reads even one page of these two together will be able to see without a shadow of a doubt that they were soul mates.

“I want a chance,” Nick said.
“A chance for what?” I asked.
“A chance to start again.”
My mouth fell open. Was he serious? “What? Why?”
“You asked me back then if I believed in fate. I didn’t until I met you. And I’ve spent nine years thinking I’d never see your face again. But fate brought you back into my life and I’m not going to mess it up again.”
I struggled to swallow the lump in my throat and speak. “You left me.”
“Please believe I did it for a good reason. And not a day has gone by when I haven’t regretted it.”

To be honest, I find it's really rare to come across an Alpha male romance that is done this right. A true Alpha hero in my eyes has a delicate balance between possessiveness and protectiveness, he's a bit overbearing but only because he cares so much but is also sweet and caring, loving and sexy. Different Alpha heroes have different measures of those qualities but, to me, the books in this series have the perfect balance of everything.

“I’m sorry. I am so fucking sorry, Emmy,” he whispered, peppering my hands with kisses.
“Why didn’t you tell me any of this?” I asked. “You could have told me back then. We could have worked something out.”
“Because I knew that if I looked into your eyes again, I would never let you go. And you were too good for that life. You needed someone who could give you so much more than I ever could… You’ve always had my heart, Emmy."

Nick's devotion to Emmy was utterly heart-melting -- especially the way he wouldn't let anything come between them. Honestly, I can't tell you how much I appreciated what a functional couple they were. Sure, they each made mistakes -- who doesn't? -- but it was clear that they both respected and loved each other enough to work together to get through every hurdle they came across.

“I thought about you every day for nine years, wondering what you were doing. I had questions I wanted to ask but couldn’t. Those nine years are on me. It was my mistake to walk away from you but I’m not doing it again. And I won’t let you do it either. All I’m asking for is time. I’ll prove to you that you can trust me again.”

I feel like I could read this series forever and there are so many couples and characters with stories to tell in this town so I'm incredibly excited for all the next books! I seriously want to read everyone's story!

While this book is undeniably a Romance, there is also another more suspenseful storyline running parallel to the love story and I was equally wrapped up in both sides of this story. But let me tell you -- things got INTENSE towards the end! My heart raced and pounded and I flipped those pages so fast that I barely took time to breathe.

“I haven’t gotten to travel much, but of all the places I’ve been, it’s my second favorite.”
“What’s your first?”
His arms hugged me tighter. “The Clover Chapel.”

I'm not going to lie, it's pretty rare for me to rate a book 5 stars but honestly, I literally loved every single thing about this book. The romance, the writing, the story, the characters, the setting, the emotions, the humor, the suspense, the heat, the heart, everything was perfect. So far, both books in this series are in my Top 5 Favorites of 2017!

Devney Perry's writing is top notch. If you'd told me this was her tenth book rather than her second, I would have absolutely believed you. There's a flawless quality to the way her stories flow and a raw honesty to her characters that are at the heart of what has made me fall in love with her writing.

If you're looking for an addictive second chance romance that'll keep your heart racing, a swoony Alpha hero who'll sweep you off your feet, and a strong sassy heroine who'll make you smile, then I highly recommend this book!!

Rating: 5 stars!! Contemporary Adult Romance. Can standalone

descriptionI LOVE the covers this author uses for her books. They are such a nice change of pace to the usual half-naked man or woman scenario. This one is very pretty. A great representation of the book. Great use of graphics. Fantastic composition.description

description I don't really have much to say about this one. It was OK, but I didn't enjoy it as much as book one. It dragged a lot for me in places. I also wasn't a huge fan of the setup. I thought Nick's reasons for leaving Emmy were lame. The fact that he didn't bother to look for her at all in nine years but still claimed to be SO in love with her was lame. The fact that he slept with OW even saying the spot where his wedding ring should have been would burn when he did sleep with OW, and he felt like he was betraying his wife, yet continued having sex with other women was lame. Thankfully the heroine wasn't pining for him and moved on to sleep with OM and even have a live-in relationship. Kudos to the author for THAT at least.

description

All that aside the writing was still good. I enjoy this author's writing style it reminds me of KA without being a straight up copy. The mystery part kept my attention and the sex scenes were fairly hot. It was nice to see the couple from book one as well. So like I said, it was OK overall.description

Warning: spoilers abound.

The Clover Chapel felt like a cherry-picked, poorly executed smorgasbord of Kristen Ashley books, all combined to form a wholly unimaginative narratorial experience.

Unfortunately, this novel had many issues—and one irritant in particular was an overabundance of telling instead of showing. In addition to that, the narration clumsily jumped from one place in time to another, with little respect to the maintaining the continuity of the timeline. Several weeks would pass in the span of just a single chapter, only to immediately contradict information previously given.

From its repetitive feel and pedestrian writing, which was almost diary-like in its presentation, far too much of this book was nothing more than unnecessary filler and overwrought drama. There were far too many conflicts going on, so much so that I simply couldn’t derive much in the way of enjoyment. It was exhausting trying to slog my way through this mess.

The prologue opens with Nick, the hero, insulting and provoking Emmeline, the heroine. Because as far as first impressions go, he doesn't seem to give a shit.

“You’re sitting in the corner glaring at the rest of us. You haven’t said a word until now. Every time someone mentions doing something fun, you roll your eyes. Yeah. You’re a spoiled brat.”

Keep in mind that this man doesn’t even know so much as her name. Maybe there’s a perfectly good explanation for her attitude like, oh, I don’t know—the fact that her friends took it upon themselves to invite four random men, strangers they picked up off the street, more or less, to accompany them on their so-called adventure of traipsing around the Vegas Strip. Because that doesn’t sound like a potential Dateline segment just waiting to happen.

This trip to Las Vegas was intended to celebrate a combination of spring break, Emmeline’s birthday, which just so happens to be the very next day, and their upcoming college graduation. Emmeline and her friends are supposed to be living it up, but instead of hanging out and spending time together, their last big hurrah before graduation, Emmeline’s friends have spent their time hooking up with strangers. Which is fine—there’s nothing wrong with that. But this certainly isn’t the trip Emmeline envisioned. So, yeah. She has every right to be annoyed, especially now that her friends have roped her into a situation she doesn’t want to be in, expecting her to spend quality time with a man she doesn’t know.

Tired of being told she’s uptight, Emmeline and Nick separate from the rest of the group, where Nick talks her into a series of random dares, all in an effort to loosen her up. Unbelievably, over the course of just a few short hours, the two fall in love—or so we’re told. As a result, the last dare ends with them exchanging vows and saying “I do,” which, depending on how you look at it, can’t be blamed on drunken stupidity. Unfortunately for Emmeline, the fairy tale crashes and burns not even a full twenty-four hours later. The next morning, after seemingly having come to his senses, Nick ducks out, leaving behind his wedding band, along with a note that reads simply, “I’m sorry.”

A devastated Emmeline dries her tears, tracks Nick down, kills him dead, and then proceeds to bury his body out in the desert.

Just kidding.

Nine years later, Emmeline is preparing for her first day of her new job. She always wanted to be a teacher, and, well, tired of being a high-society socialite in New York, two years ago, she went back to school to make that dream a reality. She’s now employed as a kindergarten teacher in Prescott, Montana. Population 823. How she wound up there, of all places, came down to which mascot she liked best while job surfing online.

Before long, Emmeline gets invited to attend a Halloween party, where—surprise!—she gets introduced to Nick, her long-lost husband. Yes, they’re still legally married. Divorce is difficult to achieve when one doesn’t know their husband’s legal name, at least not in its entirety. Also, according to Emmeline, there was the real possibility that, once Nick learned just who it was that he married, money would become an issue. Her being a multi-millionaire and all. Perhaps this concern should’ve crossed her mind before she married a complete stranger, sans prenup.

Emmeline flees the party, blindsided by the presence of Nick, for whom she’s been searching for with the help of a private investigator, to no avail. Everyone is shocked to see Nick chasing after a redhead, because everyone knows he steers clear of them. That's right, Nick hasn’t dated any redheads, as if, by avoiding having sex with them, he was somehow honoring his wife, despite the fact that he certainly wasn't celibate during their separation. What a noble sacrifice.

Nick catches up to Emmeline before she makes it to her car, demanding to know what she’s doing in Prescott. Unfortunately for him, their conversation is interrupted by the ringing of Emmeline’s cell phone. Recognizing reprieve for what it is, she takes the call, enthusiastically greeting Logan, her boyfriend of five years.

Back home, after having successfully evaded Nick's ambush, Emmeline contacts her family’s lawyer to have him draw up divorce papers, now that she finally knows the whereabouts of her husband. Her lawyer advises her to proceed with caution, to give him a month to draft papers that will ensure she avoids any financial claims, should Nick choose to go that route.

What kind of low-rent lawyer is this? After nine years, what court would deny her a divorce-by-abandonment, only to force her to pay a substantial divorce settlement?

Nick, who’s been MIA for nearly a decade, gets impatient and shows up at Emmeline’s place of employment, demanding they finish their conversation. Emmeline isn’t ready to talk, especially in her classroom, but Nick slaps his hands down on top of her desk and insists that they’re talking—now. Nick acts all put out that Emmeline isn’t willing to have a conversation, especially after her lawyer advised her not to. When Emmeline informs him that her lawyer is getting the ball rolling on their divorce proceedings, Nick is shocked, as if, after all this time, a divorce is inconceivable.

“No. No divorce. Abso-fucking-lutely not.”

They continue to argue, though obviously the matter isn’t resolved. Despite all that he put her through, Emmeline is still desperate for answers. Sensing that weakness, Nick can't pass up the opportunity to force her to spend time with him.

“Dinner. You want answers, you can have them at dinner. Tonight.”

“I am not eating with you. My timeline. Remember?”

“And I don’t give a fuck about your timeline. We’re eating tonight. You want answers. You’ll get them tonight. And I won’t be waiting for legal counsel.”

How charming.

At dinner, they talk about her relationship with Logan. Emmeline tells him the two are serious, but Nick is skeptical. Not that I can blame him. Emmeline essentially left Logan behind so she could get away from the city. She bought a house and started a career in Prescott. Those are not short-term measures. Back on the topic of them, Nick wonders why she didn’t file for divorce sooner. Emmeline explains how she couldn’t find him, how she spent tens of thousands of dollars on a private investigator. He proceeds to tell her that Nick is his middle name, not his first. After Emmeline processes that little tidbit, she wonders if they’re even really married. Of course they are, Nick happily points out. He put his legal name down on their marriage certificate, unbeknownst to her—the same certificate he took with him when he abandoned her in Vegas.

How convenient. Not only does she have a low-rent lawyer, but she also hired a low-rent private investigator, seeing as how he could’ve easily gotten his hands on a copy of their marriage certificate—something she herself could've done as well.

Instead of making good on his promise to answer her questions as to why he abandoned her, Nick demands a second chance. He wants to start over. Emmeline reminds him that he willingly left her. Nick assures her that he had a good reason, but there wasn’t a day that went by that he didn’t regret his decision. But he’s not ready to explain tonight. So much for his promise of answers.

Emmeline points out that he’s had nine years to seek her out, but Nick seems to think that he knows best. He assumed that by staying away that she’d move on—which she did. But now that Emmeline is in Prescott, sans boyfriend, Nick assumes that she’s not happy, and thus she should give him a chance. Hoping it'll change her mind, Nick threatens to contest the divorce, but Emmeline still isn’t having it. To get his way, he makes yet another promise.

“A month. I want a month. And then I’ll let you go.”

Emmeline isn’t too keen on that idea either, probably because Nick has yet to make good on his word. But she agrees to give him a week, to which Nick counters with five dates, all within the span of a week.

Needless to say, they have their five dates. One of those dates ends with them making out, but it’s totally okay because, even though Emmeline feels guilty, seeing as she still has a boyfriend, she and Logan eventually end their relationship. Up until that point, the author did a piss-poor job of trying to make Logan out to be the bad guy, all in a vain attempt to excuse away Emmeline’s behavior. With Logan now out of the picture, not that it mattered before, Emmeline and Nick carry on in happily wedded bliss—until the next drama unfolds.

When Nick finally gets around to divulging his reason for leaving, it boils down to this. His dad and brother are part of an outlaw motorcycle club, a lifestyle that got his mom killed by a rival club. Nick was expected to join, no questions asked, but he wasn’t interested in living that kind of life. According to Nick’s misguided way of thinking, his leaving would ensure Emmeline's safety. His reasoning doesn't make any sense. If his family’s lifestyle was such a threat, why marry her at all? Why make himself a part of her life, no matter how big or small? This supposed threat doesn’t stop him from pursuing a relationship with her after she moves to Prescott. If it's not an issue now, why was it an issue then? His family is still his family. That aspect hasn't changed, obviously.

Going forward, the entire story is bogged down with continual, non-stop drama.

—Emmeline’s friend and college roommate, Steffie, is shacking up with Emmeline's father.

—There have been several break-in-attempts at Emmeline’s house.

—Emmeline reveals she had a stalker in New York, in the most blasé way imaginable, as if it's no big deal.

—Emmeline’s father demands she divorce Nick and get back together with Logan.

—One of Emmeline’s students is being neglected at home, coming to school dirty and hungry. Months later, after nothing has been done to help the poor little boy, Emmeline takes matters into her own hands and confronts the boy’s aunt, except, well, the aunt isn’t the one to answer the door. The aunt’s drug-dealing boyfriend is none too pleased with the intrusion and points a gun at Emmeline's face.

—Nick’s dad shows up, apropos of nothing, demanding his help with carrying out a club-related revenge plot.

—Emmeline hides her divorce papers and contemplates divorce as a way to start fresh with Nick, but when he finds the papers, he loses his shit, lashes out, and leaves—again.

—Nick disappears for four days, drinking his sorrows away at his dad’s clubhouse. Because it’s all about him and his feelings.

—While Nick is away, licking his wounds, Emmeline is assaulted in her home and almost kidnapped by a rival MC.

—And, finally, Steffie comes to town for a visit, with Emmeline’s father in tow. Out of the blue, however, Steffie tries to murder Emmeline. No, I'm not making this shit up. The beneficiary of Emmeline’s trust hasn’t yet switched from her father's name to her husband's, and if she dies, her hundred-million-dollar fortune will go to her father. In an effort to ensure Emmeline’s father marries her, Steffie fakes being pregnant. The theory being that, once she marries into the family, she'll more than likely kill her husband to get her hands on the money. To help make that delusion a reality, Steffie enlists the help of Emmeline’s stalker, convincing him to do the dirty work in exchange for a wad of cash.

Unfortunately, there was just too much going on—one too many distractions. More like madness, really. And that’s to say nothing about Nick and Emmeline’s convoluted mess of a relationship, with its never-ending stream of assumptions and miscommunication. Most of which could’ve easily been avoided or remedied if they had actually talked, as opposed to pulling another “I’ll-explain-later.”

I had a hard time overlooking the fact that a man could so easily abandon his wife, a woman he claimed to love, no matter how little he knew her. Nick took vows, made promises—and he broke them as if he had never uttered them. His actions didn’t speak of a man who loved his wife, someone who was willing to do whatever it took to make her happy. For Nick to wholeheartedly pursue Emmeline once she moved to Prescott, paying little mind to her safety—you know, the whole reason he supposedly left her in the first place—made him a liar and negated his reason for leaving altogether. If he loved and missed her as much as he claimed, he should’ve sought her out long before she moved to town. Instead, he was content to assume she was just fine, happily living her life without him.

On the whole, I found the book to be incredibly long-winded and wordy, so much so that it tested my patience to such an extent that it’s a wonder I managed finished it all. I spent most of the book bored out of my mind. The journey to get to the end was steeped in so much drama, almost to the point of obnoxiousness. I just couldn’t bring myself to care about any of the characters or really connect with them.

I really enjoyed this one, there was push and pull, a little drama and fantastic characters. I love the small town feel that this series gives, also I have to mention the hot men of Jamison Valley don't hurt either.

If you enjoy second chance romance, small town romance or just a great love story written really well, then you'll be sucked into the Jamison Valley series just like I have been.

I wanted to give this a chance and that's why I won't be rating it.

Sooo.....
They met when they were both in Vegas they spend a night together he dared her to marred him she did, he left her the next morning, leaving his wedding ring on the table with a note saying "SORRY" after promising her that they would make their marriage work... The reason for leaving her was just plain stupid when he later on thought about it, he thought there were other options instead of leaving her.

He didn't bother to look for her not once or to give into the temptation of looking for her which it tells me that he didn't cared enough to look for her...🙄
She hired a private Investigator to look for him.. Surprise.. she didn't find him because he gave her his middle name instead of his first name...😒

They both have slept with other people.. That didn't bother me, what bothered me was that they are still very much married so in conclusion they are both cheaters he asked her for a second chance or for a month to show her that they belong together. She told him that she was giving him a week at this point she hasn't even tell the boyfriend (you know the one she's in love with?) that she's going on 5 dates with her husband? See where I'm going with this? CHEATER!!! She does tell him after the 4th date and an almost kiss..

I hate the hero, he practically forced her to date him and stupid her she agreed.
So there's OM and an OW who touched his arm affectionately while he was having dinner with the h and another one (not even worth mentioning)..

AND.. OMG.. the heroine correcting her name to the worthless Hero.
He would called her Emmy, she'll correct him Emmeline.
Emmy.
Emmeline.
Emmy.
Emmeline.
That shit drove me crazy!!! 😤

Hero tells heroine that her love for her boyfriend is all in her head.
“You don’t want him. It’s all just in your head because you’re mad at me. Your face doesn’t light up when he calls, not like it does when you look at me. You talk about what you two do but not how he makes you feel. And if you really loved him, no way in hell you’d stay married to me for nine years. You could have gotten that divorce a fuck of a long time ago.”

Yep I totally agree with him about divorcing his ass 9 years ago, she should have divorced him if that were me I wouldn't have waited 9 years to divorced him, I would have done it the next freaking day that he left me!!

Here's a quote from the cheater herself.
“Here I was, making out with another man, when just hours ago I had told Logan that I loved him. Which I did.”

“What kind of a person had I become? I didn’t cheat. I had vowed never to become like my parents. How could I do this to Logan? My sweet, wonderful boyfriend, who was having trouble adjusting to the fact that his girlfriend was now living in Montana while he stayed at home in New York”
She didn't bother breaking up with boyfriend before making out with her husband.

This two cheaters deserved each other.

I mean what kind of person compares the man she supposedly loves with the husband who left her ass the next morning?
Another lovely quote from the amazing woman (NOT) talking to her boyfriend which I may add was pretty good boyfriend.
“I missed you.”
“I missed you too,” he said, kissing my hair.
“Are you here to break up with me?”
He chuckled. “I wasn’t planning on it.”
“Good,” I said, squeezing him tighter.
I took a few deep breaths, inhaling his Armani cologne, before pulling away. Logan always smelled good.
Nick smells better.
That unwelcome comparison ran right through my mind without control. Silently scolding myself, I looked into Logan’s brown eyes. My brain unwillingly conjured up the image of Nick’s vibrant hazel ones.
Nick’s eyes are better too.
What was wrong with me? Why was I standing here with my amazingly handsome boyfriend thinking about Nick Slater”

The only good thing about this book was the boyfriend he let her go so she could be happy, he didn't even caused drama. So kudos to him for dropping her ass like she deserved.

This series is so easy to listen to...

Ava Erickson and Joe Arden team up again for The Clover Chapel and they did an amazing job. The characters came to life, I was captivated with their storytelling and I was desperate to get back to my listening any time I had to press stop.

I'm sorry, but I really couldn't do this story justice and I sort of get why I did such a shonky review the first time. All I'm going to say is that the characters, storyline and settings entertained me from start to finish. Goodies become baddies, baddies become goodies and Gigi, Jess and Rohan are still my favourites from Jamison Valley. I definitely finished with a big goofy smile on my face.

Devney Perry is an amazing storyteller and I will definitely be back for more. She writes, I read...or listen, it's just that easy.

4.5 'I Dare You' Stars

This novel starts out with a Las Vegas chapel wedding…

description

Then the author brings us nine years into the present where the bride and groom find themselves in the same town, our very own Prescott, Montana.

The characters from the previous book are added to some wonderful new characters. Nick Slater does his darnedest to keep the wife he walked out on all those years ago.

"You’ve always had my heart, Emmy. We’re it for each other. I thought about you every day for nine years."

The story has a ton of drama most of which I enjoyed like her student, Nick’s biker family, yet there was the final drama plot that for me was a bit too much. Thus I had to take away from my 5 star full fill. Nonetheless, I very much enjoyed my second book by this author and am excited about jumping into the next one!

I'm trying to stick with this series because so many people love it, but every book has just been okay. I loved the beginning of this book where Emmy and Nick meet in Vegas and get married. But when Emmy woke up the next day, Nick was gone and she never found him again. Now, 9 years late, Emmy gets a job as a teacher in a small town and runs into Nick. First off, I hated how we never got a clear answer that actually made sense why Nick left Emmy and never sought her out. When they meet again, Emmy asks and he just says, NOT NOW. Really??? You haven't seen each other in nine years and you won't tell her why you just left her? And when they decide to reconnect, he doesn't do ANY groveling and easily worms his way into Emmy's life, even though she's in a serious relationship. Then, they just got together about halfway through and the rest of the book was so boring. Sure the end had some suspense, but I was already checked out of the romance. Maybe Devney Perry's books just aren't for me? I might give her one more chance, but this series isn't off to a great start for me.

Update 22.06.2017 - I've been thinking about this book for a while now and I've decided to change my rating to 4 stars.

Oh. So. Good.

Life doesn’t always go as planned and for our heroine this is most certainly the case. After meeting the love of her life and him feeling the same let’s say fate intercepts well actually stupidity on the Hero’s part but I guess that is neither here nor there otherwise there wouldn’t be a book now would there?

Emmy Austin is tired of her Upper East Side life in New York and working for her father’s company she has finally got her degree in teaching and is in Prescott, Montana to teach Kindergarten. Leaving her boyfriend well fiancée of five years back in NY. But the relationship was more of convenience than anything else. Her one true love left her a long time ago.

Nick Slater has always thought of what ifs in life and but Lady Luck is on his side and has given him a second chance and he fights Emmy for that second chance. 5 dates. To win her back. He moved from Colorado to Montana but could never be found. As the fire fighter in Prescott he has led a somewhat happy life to this moment.

In my opinion he made up for the gap. He grovelled and Emmy made him grovel. Finally enough grovelling to feed my monster when people screw up.

The one thing that I have to say is I mean seriously what are the odds that you pick the one town where you liked the school mascot and you see your husband who you have been looking for ten years even with a PI. I mean that is serendipity at its best. Kismet, karma, providence. DIVINE INTERVENTION. You name it they had it on their side from day one.

I enjoyed the first book in the series but here the author has done an outstanding job of developing her writing style and the characters are loveable, down to earth and real. I was rooting for this couple every step of the way and they deserve every ounce of happiness that they have. They are so good together and the sex is a steaming. And that last twist in the plot well didn’t see that a coming.

This had a lot of pet peeves and yet I loved every hour, minute, second.

Let me list my pet peeves:

Pet Peeve 1: Second chance romances are NOT my thing. But I adore this book and the couple. They have something truly beautiful. I didn’t quite get Emmy’s logic but who am I to judge.

Pet Peeve 2: Our heroine was in a relationship, a flailing relationship nevertheless a relationship. They weren't suited for one another. There was emotional cheating and a kiss but that didn't bother me. Under normal circumstances I would have flipped my lid but there was so much heartfelt emotion I just couldn’t.

Pet Peeve 3: Being married, separated and being with other people. But these two were always meant to be together. The others were just side notes in the story. IMO at least.

I really do not see how I’m going to like Felicity, in book one she is a right mare and we didn’t see her at all in this book. Gonna be tough.

If I had more than two thumbs then I would stick them up. A book to read and to enjoy. Take enough time to read it in one go because I felt gutted every time I had to put it down cause of RL.

And last but not least little Mason Carpenter with your dimple you stole my heart.

"Buying you the ring that makes your face light up like the sun is something I want to do. I´d do just about anything to see that look on your face every day. I´m not broke Emmy. I can buy that ring. But even if I was poor, I´d find a way to get it."

This is a two POV book, told by the POV´s of Emmeline and Nick.

Devney Perry did it again. This book is everything. It´s heartbreaking, heartwarming, sweet and cosy and will make you feel all the things.

Emmy´s (as only Nick is allowed to call her) and Nick´s chemistry is through the roof. The tension in the first half of the book is just chef´s kiss. After getting married in Las Vegas; knowing each other only one night; Nick leaves Emmy and she only gets to see him 9 years later. He really has some serious groveling to do and oh boy, he does it. By the way, did I mention Nick is a hot fireman? Their relationship was just so sweet and heartwarming (I think Nick is a new book boyfriend) and I loved how they worked through the issues of their relationship together. And again, the groveling, perfection:

"Whatever your heart desires, Emmy. That´s what I´ll give you. If you want a quiet weekend together, it´s yours. You told me a while back you wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride. Done. I´ve got nine missed anniversaries to make up for and I promise to do it."

I loved the side characters in this as well. All residents of the smalltown were so welcoming and neighborly towards Emmeline; it really made you feel all the smalltown vibes. I loved the friendships that were developed, I really liked Emmys class she teaches, the kids were so cute and I really loved how close everybody was. All of the side characters have depth to them and their own story as well. They don´t feel like they are just there to support the plot.

Talking about the plot, which I really liked, we even have a tiny, slight mystery aspect to it, with a plot twist I didn´t expect and an ending that suprised me.

Overall it was an amazing read that I really loved. I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series and returning to all the residents of Jamison Valley.

****4.5 Stars****

This is book #2 in the Jamison Valley series, and if you haven't given this series a try yet....I highly recommend it! I love this series so far! It is a feel good book, there is a little angst; but nothing huge where it lasts the whole book. These books are about a small town, and the people who live in it. I love books like that. Of course, each book is about a main couple and their developing romance! We are treated to love, sex, friendship, and some drama. In this particular book, there was a bit of suspence thrown into the mix as well!

This book starts with Emmy and Nick meeting and getting married in Las Vegas. Yes, you read that right. They meet, and right away they decide to get married. The bad part though, is that the next day Emmy wakes up to an empty bed, and a note with one word on it, "SORRY!" Not very encouraging is it?!!!

Nine years later....things begin to pick up again...Nick and Emmy have moved somewhat on with their lives...and fate has plans for them to meet again. Will Emmy be able to forgive Nick?? Or will her anger ruin any potential they might have for a future?

I sure enjoyed these two together! Nick is an absolute sweetheart!! He truly is! I absorbed everything about him in this story...he has been added to my favorite hero list!!! I look forward to getting glimpses of these two in future books. This is the part I enjoy the most about small town series....we get to see our beloved characters in their HEA's!!!
There were a few secondary characters added to the roster in this story, and I'm really hoping that they will get books down the road! One thing is for sure....I will be looking forward to the next read until it comes out. This is a for sure read for me. I love this authors style, and am so excited to find a series that I'm in love with again!

Thank you Steph for Buddy reading this one with me! I love being able to gossip about these characters!!!

3,75 to 4 stars

An ARC has been kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest opinion.

Let’s set something straight first: I fell in love with “The Coppersmith Farmhouse” and I’m now a fan of Devney Perry. I’m convinced she can write beautiful stories with gorgeous characters.

As much as I adored The Coppersmith Farmhouse and think this book is “The Bomb”, I’ve truly enjoyed “The Clover Chapel” but I was not amazed by it. It’s been a really pleasurable read that Devney can be proud of too but just not my personal kryptonite.

What is this book about?
Similar to The Coppersmith Farmhouse it’s a “fresh start” story.
I love fresh start stories because who has never dreamt of beginning again? Choosing a new career, living in another country, etc. all that seems really exciting to me.
In The Coppersmith Farmhouse Gigi was starting a new life in Prescott with her daughter Rowen. Now in this story Emmy is beginning her brand new career as a teacher far from New York and her toxic rich father (he really was a prick!).

It’s also a “second chance” romance. When choosing to settle in Prescott Emmy never imagined meeting her estranged husband Nick. Nick and Emmy got married at “The Clover Chapel” mere hours after having met in Las Vegas. If they got married fast Nick ran away just as fast without leaving a trace. I confess I found Nick a coward for leaving her without any explanation!

We’re now nine years later and Emmy is utterly shocked to meet Nick again. In the meantime she’s got a boyfriend for several years now so the situation is quite complicated.

What should she do? Divorce of course!
Yes but…
She never knew why Nick left her and he owes her that explanation. She needs it to have her closure. At least that’s what she keeps telling herself…
The only problem is Nick. He does not seem ready to let her be free.

As I said I’ve had some issues with the story leading to this rating. In no particular order:
-the whirlwind romance in Vegas I can believe in (I know some of my friends hate insta love and I totally get them but I’m a true romantic and it does not bother me most of the time). What I could not understand was Nick’s reaction. If he left her for a reason we’ll learn soon enough why this change of mind?
And say that I buy his change of mind (and I did after some persuasion) why was he not more “overbearing”? It frustrated me that I had to wait so long to see some big alpha move coming from Nick.
I think it was one of the reasons why I did not give it more stars. I love alpha men. Nick is not a sissy far from it but sorry to say that he does not hold a candle to Jess. That’s unfortunate for this book but Jess Cleary really set the bar high!

-surprisingly I was not truly invested in Emmy and Nick’s relationship. I love being immersed in the love stories, drinking them in big gulps with stars in my eyes. That’s not what happened here. I think the main reason is due to my “sponge” tendencies. I’m usually soaking up all the character’s emotions so if Emmy was guarded I was guarded as well… Maybe Emmy’s doubts rubbed on me? She never dared to believe Nick would not leave her. She thought she needed something more (not saying what) to truly have the fresh start and true chance she wanted. So even if they dated I was not 100% invested.

-some actions or explanations did not seem really believable either but I won’t give details here as I don’t want to spoil your fun and they were small things in the grand scheme of life.

What I did really like:

-Emmy! She is such a sweetie. She cares for her students and did not let her family’s wealth spoil her and turn her in a rich brat. I loved that Emmy had the guts to go against her father’s expectations and embrace her dream of being a teacher. I adored “Teacher Emmy” as she really cared for her students, investing so much that she put herself at risk to help one of them. I could feel she really was a good person.

-the challenges and dares. Nick challenged Emmy, pushing her out of her comfort zone. I only wish I could have had more of it!

- reading more about Jess and Gigi!I love when I can keep reading about characters I enjoyed in past books! I could see how their life together progressed and how Rowen was still an incredibly sweet little girl;

-the small town “feel” with a tight knit and gossiping community set in the rural Montana (gorgeous setting). I always get high reading about supportive community as opposed to all the indifference we’re witnessing in everyday life or the bad news showing up on our screens. This is like a dose of happiness bringing a big smile on my face;

-I loved the ending as it really surprised me. Another similarity with the first book is the mystery. Emmy’s house had been broken several times and we’re always looking for the person behind these breaking and entering. Here again Jess did not find who was the villain easily. And when we learned who the master mind was I confess I did not expect it at all! So congrats Devney, you did a great job 

My reread is actually a "listen" as I had the audiobook.

Audible: Narrators – Ava Erickson and Joe Arden

OMG!!! I absolutely loved these narrators! They brought so much depth and emotion to the characters. It was easy on the ear and smooth while also bringing to life the character’s personalities. I was disappointed when the audio ended and I wanted to rewind and start all over again!

It’s official. I’m a diehard fan of this author and The Clover Chapel solidified the deal.

I absolutely love the way Ms. Perry writes. Her stories never get bogged down and there’s always something new right around the corner for her characters. And talking about characters, she gives them so much life. They each have their awesome qualities as well as their quirks that make them human. They come to life on the page and despite making some a-hole decisions, they’re always redeemable.

Loved meeting Nick and Emmy and revisiting with Jess and Gigi. There were some new friends and family introduced as well and I’m curious to see where this series is going to go.

If you haven’t tried this one yet, I dare you. No, I double dare you.

I read Perry's debt novel (and first in this series) last year and while there were parts I enjoyed, there was much left to be desired. I was hoping The Clover Chapel would showcase the growth and development typical of a sophomore novel. Unfortunately I felt the same way toward this as I did about The Coppersmih Farmhouse.

Nick and Emmy were very one dimensional sketches of what their characters' true potential could be. I found both to be annoying and never really understood why they fell for each other in the first place. This reads like a second chance romance; however, their "first chance" was a total of 5 drunken hours in Vegas ending in a marriage based on a dare. Nick is gone the following morning and while his reasons are later exposed, honestly who care because five hours of knowing someone doesn't make the two of them pining for each other for nine years worth it.

Once they are reunited Nick struggles to make Emmy fall back in love with him, although honestly she didn't put up much of a fight. Up to this point I was still willing to forego the improbability of knowing who your soulmate is within five hours. But what follows is basically a repeat of the previous novel with a few details changed to make it seem new and exciting. There's this forced level of suspense that was wholly unnecessary. I would instead have loved to have seen Nick and Emmy actually get to know each other and build a strong and lasting foundation on something other than lust (which let's be real, is all a drunken few hours in Vegas can provide).

Perry seems to be a favorite among contemporary romance lovers, but I think I will be passing on her future books.

First off, where does this author get her covers? They're always so stunning!

After reading my first book by Devney Perry, I can understand why everyone has fallen in love with her. She's got endearing characters and a sweetness to her writing that will definitely appeal to the masses. However, I was waiting for that extra push. I kept feeling like something was missing and even when I got to the end, it was nowhere to be found. What that 'thing' was, I couldn't tell you. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I felt it. I'm a real sucker for a second chance romance story so I just went with the flow and I have no regrets. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get enough of Nick's perspective so that I could really trust and believe in his devotion to Emmy. I have to admit to being a little turned off by him when he spoke of carrying a torch for her throughout the years and actually felt guilt whenever he was with another woman, but he didn't justify any of that. So getting inside his head more may have helped. Or maybe it would have hurt his case. Luckily, I'm not the writer.

This was an okay read, but it definitely let me see the potential of this author. Will I try her again? Most definitely! I've actually got a signed copy of Tattered on my bookshelf waiting to be read.

I tried to like The Clover Chapel more than 2 stars. It really breaks my heart that I have to rate 2 stars for Miss Perry's book.
I do not hate all the aspect of this book. I like the scenery and the feel of small town romance. What I do not like is the story/ plot and the characters.

The characters are immature. It is not enough flash back on how Nick and Emmy met the first time. Miss Perry was in hurry to push the story to the present. Therefore I can not feel the connection/ chemistry between Nick and Emmy. So when they met again, it's like meh.

I was expecting so much more from Miss Perry. And I am disappointed.

***ONE STAR***
I SO wanted to love this story. It started out so perfect for me. Nick and Emmy find this amazing chemistry with each other, and spend the day together in Vegas. On a whim they decide to marry and have a fantastic night. Then Emmy wakes up the next morning alone, with a note that says, "Sorry."
Wow, Dude!!!

I love dick heroes, so I was sucked in right then and there. Too bad I didn't read the blurb on this one, and just dove in blind. If I had I realized there was a NINE year gap before they met up again, I'd have passed. I almost did dnf'd, because I'm SO not a fan of long year gaps before the characters hook up again. This story would have been way more believable if these two had only been apart for a couple of years. And then after all those years that Emmy's PI's couldn't track Nick down to serve him divorce papers, Emmy "unknowingly" moves to the exact town Nick lives in (what are the odds?)

Emmy finally runs into Nick, and Nick demands they stay married. He's always been in love with her these past 9 years and he has always regretted walking away from her and now he knows they should be together, and he refuses to grant her a divorce. Wait, WHAT? They didn't even know each other for a full day before getting married. In love?

The story just went downhill from there. And it was LONG. I didn't think it would ever end. And there was just so much drama thrown into the last half of the story that was totally unnecessary, and it ruined the story all together.

Between, mysterious stalkers, MC Club family members dragging Emmy and Nick into their drama, Emmy getting attacked in her own home, then an attempt at murdering Emmy, this story became way OTT with all the needless drama.

This story was definitely not my cuppa. I only picked this story up because it was a freebie, and I think it's safe to say I'm going to have to pass on this author's other works in the future.

I need my alpha males to be just that - all male and not do a runner when the going gets tough. Nick's a runner and didn't come across as an alpha.

I struggled to believe in their undying love. Nick and Emmy meet for the first time and get married in the same evening then don't see each other for years because he ran away but are still madly in love. Say what? 🤔

The middle dragged and I skimmed a fair bit. The skank (can't remember her name, that's how much of an impression she made) was unnecessary and I can't figure out quite why she even made an appearance, plastic enhancements and all. 🙄

There were other things that niggled but yeah, I'll stop now.

Such a sweet and sexy story! Highly recommend this one for fans of KA - this book is all about a strong heroine; a stand-up, Alpha hero; and some fast-moving danger. Loved the descriptions of the breathtaking Montana scenery.

I'm a HUGE fan of second-chance romance and this one fit the bill perfectly. This is the second book in the Jamison Valley series and centers around Nick, Jesse's friend. (This book can be read as a standalone but I HIGHLY recommend the first book because it is fantastic!) It's no spoiler that Nick and Emmeline (Emmy) were married in Las Vegas many years earlier and surprise! They meet up again very unexpectedly after many years apart, when she moves to his small town.

“Nick?” Gigi asked, but I didn’t speak or take my eyes off Emmy. She was frozen just like I was. Finally, Emmy broke away.

“Sorry. I have to go,” she mumbled before racing to the door.

“What was that? Do you know her?” Jess asked.

Yeah. I knew her. “She’s my wife.”

There is a delicious slow-burn aspect to this story even though Nick and Emmy are still legally married. Emmy now has a boyfriend, and had given up ever finding Nick after years of searching turned up nothing (there's a good reason for that which is revealed later in the book!). Nick broke her heart when he left her after their impulsive wedding in Vegas. Emmy and Nick were from two very different worlds, but now their paths have crossed again when she takes a teaching job in Prescott, Montana.

Nick is a sexy and sweet Alpha but Emmy resists him despite his incredibly tender and romantic gestures. Even though they are husband and wife, they really didn't know each other at all. If you are a fan of small-town romance, you will love this book. There is plenty of action and just the right amount of heat. Although story did not have the "wow" factor that 'The Coppersmith Farmhouse' had, I still raced through this book and absolutely fell in love with the characters.

I am obsessed with this series and cannot wait for more stories about the other characters. Ms. Perry obviously has a great deal of love for her setting and it shows in her writing. 'The Clover Chapel' is a heart-warming, funny, sexy and very adult romance that enthralled me and entertained me to the very last word. I am thrilled that the third book in the series, 'The Lucky Heart' is coming in August! I can't wait to return to Jamison Valley.

I absolutely love this cover!

For the most part, I really enjoyed the book as well. The beginning was super fun. Insta everything, which I happen to love. I really enjoyed Nick and Emme's Vegas adventure. Once they come face to face in Prescott years later things really get interesting.

What I enjoyed about this story:
Nick was fabulous. I absolutely adored him. He was super fun, especially in Vegas! And was level headed and a solid guy throughout. I love the self sacrifice aspect of the story.
I enjoyed Emme as well. Though I did find incessant need to bring up the D word a tad melodramatic and nonsensical.
The writing is fab. The cover is gorgeous. Everything about this one, invites the reader in.
The last half was just a bit much for me. Though I have to admit it was entertaining.

Overall, it's not perfect but it's a pretty good read.

**The Clover Chapel generously provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

5 "I dare you." Stars

This story took me completely by surprise and I loved every minute of it. Devney Perry took this second-chance contemporary romance and blew it out of the water. I absolutely adored how her main characters met and how the story proceeded from there. Perry's writing style never leans too heavily on the angst but rather the details that allow readers to see further inside her characters without undue drama and contrived situations. As readers, through Perry's gifted writing, we see the characters as real people who we could know and hang with and as such become integral parts of their stories while reading.

Nick Slater and Emmiline Austin don't meet and fall in love under traditional circumstances in fact, their paring is quite the opposite. Which makes it so perfect. The backgrounds they come from are interesting and diverse to each of them. And the meat of their story and how they find each other again and again is inspiring and fateful. It's hard to go into much detail without spoiling so I won't.

But each of these characters provides interesting roles to the story and I found myself enamored with them both from the very beginning. A lot goes on as time passes in the The Clover Chapel but author cleverly and concisely brings everything together beautifully all the while holding your attention captive. I sat up until 3 in the morning enraptured in this story.

There's a lot that could be said. Alpha male. Sassy heroine. Enigmatic plot. Great supporting cast. A formidable foe. Wonderful back story. Excellent story-telling. Those are the important parts and the story just falls together perfectly. The Clover Chapel definitely took me someplace unexpected as the second book in the series with two new main characters. It was an exciting adventure full of surprises and love. A perfect romance. I loved this story and can't wait for more from the Jamison Valley.

“No man can ever make you happy because no other woman will ever make me whole. We’re it for each other.”

Insta-love, Second chance story with some suspense and some twists and turns.
Book 2 in the Jamison Valley series.

Characters
Nick (firefighter & mechanic):
Nick's dad is president of a motorcycle gang and his mom was executed by a rival gang when he was 16. He wants no part of his dad's life. "They use violence to intimidate people who don’t do as they want. They have little respect for the law.” . He has made a life for himself in a small town and is just trying to live life.

First impression of Nick: I loved how Nick pushed Emmy out of her comfort zone. Roller coaster rides, male strip clubs, lemon drop shots and marriage. 😳 He really knows how to bring out the big guns and make an impression. 😂😂 However, it made me sad that he bailed and he better have a really good reason for that or else he will be on my 💩 list.

Emmy (teacher):
Emmy's family comes from money. She doesn’t have a good relationship with her dad and her mom lives in a different country. “Growing up, I had always tried to please him. But no matter what I did, he had always been disappointed in me. Nothing had ever been good enough.”
She was working for her dad in NY and hated what she was doing. ”My job was to make connections with potential high-dollar donors and convince them that they should give to whichever political candidate we were promoting at the time.” After a bit of a scandal broke and her dad threw her under the bus, she gladly quit his company. Even though some time has passed, she still feels like she is suffocating and under a constant microscope so she decides to take a year away from NY (and her boyfriend of 5 years) to pursue her true passion, teaching.

First impression of Emmy: She’s a little uptight. Someone needs to loosen her up.

The Story:
Plot....high level synopsis:
Nick and Emmy meet in Vegas and get married the same night. “No, I won’t regret getting married. Will you?”
“Abso-fucking-lutely not.”

When Emmy wakes up the next morning, Nick has left his ring behind and is nowhere is sight. He left a one-word note behind. "Sorry."

Fast forward 9 years later and they end up in the same town. The past must be put behind them and Emmy's current boyfriend situation will need to be resolved in order for these two to move forward and get their HEA.

My Thoughts:
I liked the introduction of Nick and Emmy, although I'm not sure I really bought into the instant marriage. Yes, they had fun, but I didn't feel enough chemistry to warrant a walk down the aisle immediately after meeting.

Also, although they got married 9 years ago, they haven't had any communication since the day they said "I Do" and Nick walked out. Apparently the fact they never actually got divorced was because subconsciously Emmy never got over Nick (even though she's been in a committed relationship for the past 5 years with Logan). Hmm🤔. Does that mean she intended to just stay married to Nick forever even though she had no clue where he lived? That was just hard to buy into.

LOTS of drama: Whew....there was a lot thrown in. Throughout all of this, you have Emmy and Nick trying to repair their relationship and Emmy looking for answers as to why Nick left and trying to forgive him for leaving her behind.

Sometimes I felt the chemistry and sometimes I didn't. Despite that, I really liked these characters and felt they were a good fit. I rooted for them and wanted them to get their HEA.

This book is a standalone love story, but there are recurring characters from the first book. I will say that my issues with the heroine in the first book were forgotten when I read this book as Jess and Gigi were enjoyable throughout this book and added some fun moments to the story. Overall, I'm giving this 3.5 stars. I felt Emmy had more character depth than Nick, so I just felt there was s little something missing when it came to the H. The drama was non-stop and involved a whole slew of people. I had a hard time connecting the dots or making sense of some of the drama points and I felt like the ending twist was a big "jump the shark" moment (way out of left field and made no sense to me why that person did what they did). I'll most likely continue the series as this book was a little better for me, I just wasn't completely blown away.

- Do you need to read previous books in series?: as mentioned above, it a standalone love story with recurring characters from book 1. There are things from book 1 that are spoilers in this book. So if you plan to read this series, start with book 1. Plus, it will help round out the other characters and add more depth to the story.

Quotes
“ Learning that she’d found that life I had wished for her, one with a husband and kids, would have blown my already broken heart to smithereens.”

“I was a fucking asshole and had abandoned her, even if it had been for her safety”

“I may forgive you but that doesn’t erase the pain. I gave you my heart and you betrayed my trust. Your explanation may heal some of those past wounds but we have no future."

As much as I love Jamison Valley and it’s inhabitants, I highly struggled to like this book.

Prescott, Montana is the ultimate small town, and I genuinely have this sweet love for the characters in this town. The loyalty, the friendships, the protectiveness is something worth striving for(I want to live in that kind of town!) , but as much as I enjoy the setting, the plot was both rushed and a little all over the place.
I think we got too many different suspense scenarios. Because we got so many, any depth or build up to it was more or less non-existent. It took the suspense away from me.
The book wasn’t boring. The writing is quite entertaining, however due to the “rush-ness” of it, it wasn’t my favourite Perry book. I am however, completely invested in these people from Prescott, so I am in no way deterring from this series. Perry is a very talented author, and I highly enjoy her work, this one was simply not the best match for me.

I got a good feel of Emmeline, and she was sweet and lovely and in no way a “upper class Bitch”. I do love that “pecker” -joke😂

Nick, however was a lot harder to connect to. Might be because he didn’t have so many chapters, and that impacted how genuine I felt he was.

Sadly their love story was felt odd to me. A do love a good second chance romance, and I did root for them to be together, I just didn’t get excited about it.

Read: 29/05/2020
1st rating: 2 stars
Genre/sub-genres: Contemporary romance/second chance/firefighter/small town romance/kinda insta love/suspense
Cover: 4 stars - I fucking LOVE these covers! Whoever makes them for Perry deserves a bloody slow clap👏
POV’s: Multiple- 1st person (However mainly Emmy & Nick)
Will I recommend: This series, yes, this particular book in the series, nah. But you do need to read it😂

3.75⭐️ Second chance romances are my favorite but this book had quite a lot going on in the plot that I unfortunately didn’t obsess over it. Nonetheless this couple was very cute. I am very excited for Felicity and Silas’ book next.

This was a cute second chance romance ! I loved the couple and they were very adorable !

For me, this book had just wayyy to many plots and overall didn’t super make sense. It just felt like they were thrown in & just ruined it for me :/

Like one plot point is great and gives a nice twist to a small town romance but they were like 15 thousands
