The story ramps up in the big action climax. Nice that it's a magic-gone-wrong threat, much more creative, and not the usual attacking-army problem; no guys hacking each other with swords magical or otherwise.

It looks like the next volume will get back to what Qifrey's been up to in another part of the forest action, and I'm looking forward to it, as he's my favorite character.

The anime adaptation is just now (Spring '25) dropping, and I am delighted with how closely it's following the manga so far. Very highly recommended.

As ever, start with volume or episode 1.

The artwork is so intricately detailed and gorgeous. The panel designs are super creative and the ideas for new layouts seem to never end.

🧙🏼‍♂️🪄My favorite moment was when Olruggio (Ollie) confronted the giant leech and said "Kill it with fire!"

"So long as I have my paper, my ink, and my pen... I can face any danger or hardship. Magic has the power to change the world. And no matter how far away they might be... I can always draw in my mind... the people who care for me, and draw strength from them. So long as I remember... so long as I'm never alone in my heart... I'll have the courage to stand alone."

There were so many amazing quotes in this volume that I almost wasn't sure which one to choose for my hook, there!! Shirahama's writing remains supreme in each and every passing volume!! However, at time of writing the waiting game as begun for me -- I can't believe the next volume comes out in December of 2026! Crying and screaming!!! :'(
At least I'll have the anime to enjoy for a while so my heart doesn't get lonely for Witch Hat <3 Not to mention, I want to check out the new Grimoire edition that's coming out soon!! (Not Sponsored I just love buying books--)

The way that one of the major themes of this volume is how men in power feel threatened by young girls trying to build a better future for themselves and the people around them, preferring instead to seek solace in restrictive rules and traditions that actually stop people from living freely... is just so crazy and beyond relevant to real life. Not to mention masterfully done. I once again praise Shirahama's writing ability to the moon and back!!

Coco has grown into herself in such a beautiful way. At time of writing, the WHA anime is coming out (about 5 episodes out at this moment), so I've been watching and getting a reminder of what Coco was like in the beginning. She was so understandably unsure of herself and hesitant, with the condition of her mother weighing heavily on her mind. But with friends, community, and her found family, she has really blossomed and flourished into a girl who is confident and rightfully believes in herself. I really think Coco is becoming THE "outsider" who will change the order of witches for good, reminding all of the rigid witches of empathy, humanity, and circumstance. Not to mention, the bottom line of magic in the first place -- to bring happiness to all. Coco, you are the best!!!

I also really loved Agott in this volume. I miss Richeh and Tetia, I hope that they get more pagetime soon. Seeing the way Agott and Coco have grown and flourished in their friendship also brings a tear to my eye. So, so proud of them.

The future is in good hands with the children of the world -- that's the feeling that Witch Hat Atelier gives me!!

The artwork continues to around me with its creativity and beauty, and just the sheer way it transcends what you are to expect from panels!

I love this story and the way this arc is hitting its climax. I can’t wait to see what happens next! I feel like everyone is really coming together here and I love it!

XD

Everyone is working together to save the kingdom from the 'leech', but mistrust and conflicting morals are causing trouble within the fight.

Easthies of the Knights Moralis finds the plan wrong, a violation of the code, so he fights back, even against his fellow captain and comrades. His timing made me really dislike him, but I can see his point. To have served and be surrounded by these rules only for them to suddenly be bent on a chaotic whim would have a lot of people uncomfortable and maybe even frightened of the impacts after. Still, it was shocking to see one of the 'good protectors' seem so...villainous going after all the innocent people wrapped up in the disaster.

I absolutely adored Agott finally having her cry after her 'useless' knowledge on animal spells finally comes in handy. It felt cathartic for her, and with Richeh and Tetia there to comfort her. Definitely made me a little emotional.

I really am liking the plan. It's kooky and seems like so much can go wrong, yet there's that crazy glimmer of hope that it could just work. Trapping the leech in the seal in the sky made with the Floatforms is genius. Imaginative. Such a Coco idea!

I feel for Olruggio. He obviously has some childhood trauma feeling not good enough despite feeling pressured from everyone's high expectations with his fire magic, so when Beldruit asked him to light it all up...I felt proud for Papa Olly. And amused when the leech went after his fake prey contraption stones, poor guy just needs a vacation or day off.

No sign of Qifrey yet, but I'm sure he's up to something.

The last chapter of his volume where Coco and Agott team up to fix the Floatforms...I teared up. They've come so far since the beginning, and I'm proud. Seeing Agott reach out for Coco, praising her and even complimenting her magic was so lovely.

As always, the artwork is fantastic, truly captivating. I've thoroughly loved this arc, however I'm ready now for it to be wrapped up. I need some cosy low stakes atelier chapters soon!
