Two complete mystery thrillers by Pulitzer-nominated Lawrence De Maria! *** “A LAWRENCE DE MARIA TITLE GIVES YOU MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK THAN JUST ABOUT ANYTHING IN THE BOOK MARKETPLACE TODAY.” (Florida Weekly); “THE JAKE SCARNE THRILLERS NEVER DISAPPOINT! ALTON RHODE MYSTERIES ARE IN A CLASS BY THEMSELVES.” (John Crudele, New York Post) *** 1. SIREN’S TEARS The death of a spider monkey in a South American rain forest is the prelude to unsolvable human murders in Canada and the United States. Only when private investigator Alton Rhode is approached by a suspicious priest does the killer have anything to worry about. Rhode has doubts about the cleric's story. But urged on by an unlikely underworld ally, he begins a hunt that spans thousands of miles. And himself becomes the hunted! “More chills and thrills, as an intrepid P.I. hunts a Black Widow serial killer. SIREN’S TEARS, from Pulitzer-nominee Lawrence De Maria, is another winner.” (John Crudele, NEW YORK POST) 2. KILLERFEST One writer has already been savagely slain. Sebastian Quimper, best-selling thriller writer, fears he will be next. With good reason. The police have a letter. It claims terrorists will seek revenge because he “insulted” Islam in one of his books! The literary superstar will be the featured speaker at a conference in Manhattan. The N.Y.P.D. will be out in force to protect him. But Quimper’s publishers are still nervous. He sells millions of books and is the key to a huge publishing merger – if he stays alive! They bring in Jake Scarne for extra protection. But no one could be prepared for what happens! “A case of publish AND perish, KILLERFEST is another sparkling thriller from De Maria, who adeptly skewers the New York literary scene.” (John Crudele, NEW YORK POST) *** MORE CRITICAL PRAISE! “A master of thriller dialogue.” (WASHINGTON INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF BOOKS) “While De Maria may have been an award-winning financial reporter, he's an awfully good fiction writer as well.” (NAPLES DAILY NEWS) “What is really almost beyond belief is how easily De Maria has transitioned from the dry world of financial reporting to the wild and lavish world of novel writing.” (COLLIER CITIZEN)
These stories were fast paced, but poorly edited. I am aware that I write that a lot when reviewing ebooks. Please writers hire a competent copy editor as grammatical errors are glaring and annoying when one is reading.
Both novels were well written and great storyline. Full of suspense and intrigue. Both were page turning thrillers. I will definitely be putting Mr DeMaria on my favorite author list.
After the first page I was hooked. Finally a book about female serial killers. About time. It's funny though, because I could relate to their motivation. I also liked the hero, even though it was a man. I recommend reading this book. Kudos. More more!
