This picks up 10-ish years after The Forgotten Child with Crystal returning. I found it quite boring, and the OW drama was weak. There were also a couple issues that made the conflict weak, and the writing feel lazy.

❌ Why would Brad, a cutthroat businessman, write up his settlement with the ginormous loophole that she was only giving up custody/guardianship NOT terminating parental rights?? Especially after all the problems from the first book resulted from him leaving her an in to screw him over. They all should’ve been smarter… Brad, the lawyer, Emily… it takes Crystal slinking back into town for them to realize that Emily has ZERO rights over Trevor.

❌ Why would Brad allow Crystal to come in the house when she was TERRIBLE and almost broke them up/institutionalized their son?

❌ The b-day party scene conflicted itself within the same chapter that drastically changed the situation.

#1- “Who are you?” Trevor asked. Crystal glanced awkwardly at Brad and said, as she took another step closer, “I’m your mother.”
#2- Emily hadn’t said a word when Crystal told Trevor she was his mother, but she had flinched, and her heartache was apparent.
#3- Trevor understood who Crystal was. He had been the only one in the room who’d stepped toward her, seeming happy to see her. He’d held out his hand and said, “You’re my mom.”
#4- You need to be careful, Brad. You told her once to say hi then leave, nothing else. She walked in the door and told him she was his mother.

There is a HUGE difference between 1-2-4 and 3 which would make her innocent. Personally, based on everything we’ve seen from her in the past, I think Crystal would purposely say it despite promising to only say hi and leave with no regard for the confusion it would cause him and their other children. Regardless, it’s sloppy especially since they all happened within a couple chapters of each other with 2 & 3 conflicting on the same page.

❌ The time line was off. In the first book, Trevor was 3, Katy was 2, and it ended with her pregnant. Here, Trevor is 13, Katy is 12, and Becky is 6. Also, Emily was 35 in the last book, so she should be 45, and they’re talking about having more kids.

Bottom Line- The first half of the book was quite boring with filler and listening to Neil pout around…the ass. It picks up, and I still dislike Crystal, but she was borderline pathetic and off her evil OW game. It was decent, but predominately filler as there were no revelations or new material… just kicking around stuff that already happened with a small helping of Crystal drama that went nowhere and disappeared as quickly as it blew in. 3 bucks for 150 pages of filler feels a bit greedy. 😑

Lorhainne Eckhart is a great author. I could not put the book down. I loved how Brad and Emily have came along way the kids. Trevor has come a long way since he was little. How the 3 siblings of Brad and Emily's also are helping each other in other ways.

Great continuation of the Friessen family

Those Friessen men just don't get it. While they are gorgeous alpha males that would do anything for their family, sometimes they just don't stop and think about their actions. The drama continues with Neil and Candy and his lies. Brad and Emily now have to deal with a nightmare, Brad's ex-wife, Trevor's biological mother. Read this exceptional story, not everything is resolved but Brad and Emily finally get their honeymoon.

Trevor is doing very well now with his autism. Everything Emily has done for him has made such a difference. School is going well and he is about to turn thirteen. There is something going on with Brad's brother Neil. He has a secret it seems and even his wife Candy doesn't know what it is. And why has Travis's mother Crystal turned up at his birthday party. Just what does she have up her sleeve that could bring their family tumbing down?

Oh noooo! Crystal is back! What is she up this time? You will read to find how her return will affect Emily and Brad's life. It is great to hear more about their lives together.
It was so nice listening to the happy birthday song, 🎶 I have only heard singing once in an audio book and I listened many.

A Different Kind of Love (The Friessens: A New Beginning #3) was a great read by Lorhainne Eckhart. Brad and Emily now find themselves facing an entire new set of challenges with their pre-teen autistic son. His birth mother now returns and wants a relationship with him even though she abandoned him. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

Poor Em!!!!

A mother's love being pulled apart is a horrific thing to deal with. Em has every right to be distraught. A great story filled with tension , love , and lots of understanding. Another great book in this wonderful family saga.

Wow!

This is Brad and Emily's story. They go through life's struggles. Can they get through it? Will there be obstacles to overcome? This is a heartwarming story about daily life. This is the first book I've read by this author, but it definitely won't ba my last!
