Bailey Clark has her whole life planned out for her. Graduate law school early, get married to a successful man, have 2.5 kids and a home with a picket white fence. It’s not the life she wanted, but it’s the path her parents expect her to take. She certainly wasn’t looking for a love match at her cousins wedding, but when a creep from her past bothers her at the reception, her knight in shining armour stepped in- or doe eyed queer in satin?
Enter Shay Foster. Brides childhood best friend, nomad, and notably has an anxious attachment style. When she steps in to rescue Bailey, they escape into a side room that ends up being a janitors closet. A closet that now has a broken lock, trapping them together for the remainder of the wedding.
The two spend the evening making the best of the situation and get to know each other, neither of them expecting to feel the searing connection that they do. When they finally escape, they can’t bear to part ways so they agree to meet up again. One thing leads to another and with both realizing they have the summer off of work, they decide to embark on a road trip across their home province. Bailey wants to be spontaneous for the first time in her life, while Shay agrees that she could use the practice of a healthy relationship. It’s fine though because their feelings for each other are not real and their relationship is just practice…right?
modern lesbian romance. Standalone, HEA, No cheating.
If you love a steamy, sapphic romance, look no further! I found that there weren't enough books in the style that I liked to read (First person, stream of consciousness) so I decided to write them myself :)

This novel has a lot of good elements to it, a lot of good ideas, some very enjoyable scenes and plot points, and I definitely enjoyed reading it.
Unfortunately, it was also a bit of a mess. This needed some solid editing for starters, and the quality of the novel/writing seemed to vary a lot from scene to scene. There were plot holes and inconsistencies, bits that didn’t make sense or were confusing, and just generally little problems throughout.
In the afterward the author said that they wrote this novel between the ages of 18 and 21, and I think that perfectly explains some of the issues I saw. It reads like sections were written when the author was legitimately a better writer, and also like the author may have lost track of what was happening or written previously, from time to time.
Writing a novel is an accomplishment, and I don’t want to take that away from this author, but this novel as-is should have been the first draft and not the final product. I think that the foundation of a great novel is here but that it needed some more work and revisions before it was ready to go out into the world.
Shay is attending her childhood best friend Tara's wedding, where she meets Bailey. Luckily Shay is there alone, as her lover, Robin, cheated on her.
Bailey was charmed on first sight by Shay, but the events of the wedding pulled them apart. When one if the grooms friends got too pushy, she saw Shay and pretended they were girlfriends, scaring him off. But then they kissed...
Bailey likes Shay, but is hesitant because Shay will be going home in a few months. When Bailey complains that she's kind of boring, Shay suggests a bucket list of things they can do together.
(Wow Bailey's parents are awful. When she refused to be a doctor they grounded her, then when she still refused they cut her off.)
Things are going well between them until Bailey's mom goes off, then Shay finds out the sweet granny who's been caring for her back home is terminal, so she rushes off.
The SPOILER about Bailey felt like a soap opera twist. It explains the mom's issues but.... dumb.
I really enjoyed the book in the beginning and I really liked Shay and Bailey, but it became very repetitive. I had moments where I wanted to put it down because I felt like I was reading the same page over and over again. I did enjoy the ending, it felt a little rushed, but it was a nice conclusion.
A really sweet book. I liked the plot and characters. The third act break-up seemed organic and not forced or contrived. There were A LOT of errors, mostly punctuation. Eventually they became distracting. Otherwise an enjoyable book.
