Lost Seoul is the inspirational true story of one man's journey to find his family after becoming lost in a crowded Seoul train station at the age of six. It relays his courage, and never-ending hope, to understand his path in life while discovering unimaginable inner strength along the way.
This is a heart warming story of a young man's struggle to survive. After being separated from his family in Busan and Seoul, Korea, Jin Stearns had the good fortune to reach the Holt Ilsan Center where he received excellent care. Then, at age 10, he overcame long odds to be adopted by a kind family of teachers from PA. Jin adjusts well to his new surrounding, grows up, becomes a success, marries and raises a family. Then, after 40 years, Jin returns to Korea and appears on a TV show focused on lost families. Again, against long odds, he is able to locate his brothers and his extended Korean family. This is an inspirational story and a quick read.
As an adopted Korean myself, I found this book to be very interesting and connected with it on a number of levels, not the least of which is that both the author and I were adopted via the same adoption agency.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was very interesting and heartbreaking reading about what all Jin Soo went through in Korea before being adopted. I go to the same church that Jin Soo went to in Greenville, PA and I knew him and his parents Frank and Patricia Stearns. That made reading the book even more interesting knowing the author and his parents.
