The seventh full-length novel in the critically acclaimed series from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Alyssa Day . . .
The most unexpected of all allies to Poseidon’s warriors has proven to be the fiercest—Daniel, the vampire and Night Guild mage. But even the strongest alliance can be destroyed when an 11,000 year old desire is reborn. A princess of ancient Atlantis has awakened to a deadly mission: she must retrieve a lost jewel of Poseidon’s Trident or die trying. Will the man she once loved, now turned to the night, become her darkest enemy . . . or her consuming passion?
A vampire’s oath, a maiden’s quest… Daniel, vampire and ally of the Warriors of Poseidon, has fought on the side of humanity—even against his fellow creatures of the night—for more than 11,000 years. But the crushing weight of futility and the reality of always being starkly, utterly alone has forced him to finally give into despair. He took the first step into the sunlight that would destroy him—and instead walked into Atlantis.
And the blackest of magic that could consume them both. 11,000 years ago, Serai agreed to be placed into magical stasis, as one of a group of maidens who would ensure the future of the Atlantean race. When a dark sorceress steals the gemstone that protects Serai’s sisters, she awakens to a vastly changed world—and the one man she could never, ever forget. She offers him a choice: help her or lose her. With an ancient evil tracking their every step, these two star-crossed lovers will battle the darkest of magic and the treacheries of their own hearts.

ALYSSA DAY is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of romantasy, paranormal romance, and mystery novels whose books have sold more than a million copies and been translated into many languages, although she’s holding out for Klingon. She has lived with and battled chronic depression for her entire life and finally admitted it to her family—and the world—in 2014. Life is better now, because depression lies and tells us we’re alone.
We’re not.
Alyssa (as Alesia Holliday) is a diehard Buckeye from The Ohio State University who graduated summa cum laude from Capital University Law School in Ohio and practiced as a trial lawyer for several years before coming to her senses and letting the voices in her head loose on paper. She has lived all over the country and all over the world, including the Philippines, Turkey, and Japan.
When she’s not traveling to new adventures, she lives in Florida with her Navy Guy husband, spends time with her two amazing kids, and rescues dogs.
One of the problems with having a favorite author is having high expectations. Alyssa Day's Warriors of Poseidon series was my first paranormal read ever. Add that to the fact that her books just get better and better (I mean I never thought she'd be able to top Brennan's!) and once you put all that together, well, that's just a lot of pressure for this book to have. So what happens if this book isn't awesome? I hate that nervous feeling I get as I crack open a new book from one of my favorite authors.
Why on Earth was I worried?
This book more than delivered. Do we need to say it together? "I shall never doubt Alyssa Day again." Now repeat.
Daniel is one of my favorite vamp heroes, even if he gets a bit emo at times (hey, it's understandable! look what's he's been through! He thinks he's the reason the love of his life is dead), and he feels that 11,000 years is plenty. He's tired, he's lonely, and he doesn't see the point in life anymore. He decides to walk into the sun,but he falls into a portal instead.
Serai was one of the maidens frozen and meant to be married to a royal husband to ensure the purity of the Atlantean line(Remember in Atlantis Rising where Prince Conlan was supposed to be engaged to one of these women?). Well, wouldn't ya know that after 11,000 years she is able to break free of her prison? And what's the first thing she wants? Escape.
Opening a portal, Serai is all set to run from Atlantis and into freedom, when Daniel falls through the portal and lands at her feet. Daniel thinks he's in heaven, and she is shocked and confused, but drags him through the portal with her. They had known each other before Atlantis sank beneath the sea! She was the love of his life who he'd thought was dead. He was a blacksmith, she was an Atlantean princess. What a love story!
One of my favorite scenes happens right after they go through the portal. Jack (our tiger shifter-hello hot tiger goodness!) attacks them, and Serai does something soo cool that I can't spoil it for you. But let's leave it at she makes Jack roll over and show belly. It was a great scene.
Right about there, we find out that the Emperor, an amethyst from Poseidon's trident, is what has kept the maidens in stasis for the past 11,000 years. And wouldn't ya know, someone wants that stone, and wants to use it for evil purposes? I really liked the side-story about the vampire and the witch using that stone. Best quote? From Ivy, the witch, to her teenage son "Don't threaten the scary vampire." That scary vampire was actually a pretty cool bad guy, or maybe a not-so-bad guy...
Serai and Daniel have to find the Emperor and get it back to Atlantis, but the capricious portal won't let anyone through to help. It was great seeing the two of them reconnect-what a love story! And watching Daniel see himself through Serai's eyes, and not through the tortured-hero-alpha-male blinders he'd been wearing was so beautiful. Can I just sigh for a minute about this book? ::sigh:: The love scenes were so steamy hot, I needed a cold glass of water! And Daniel, in that alpha male "mine" mode? Oh *swoon* I about melted into a puddle. I even cried at one point. Vampire in Atlantis will grip you, and hold you tight til the end of the book, you won't want it to let you go, and you'll find yourself slowing down so you can savour the story.
One of my favorite characters is Poseidon himself. I love his cameo appearances in each book, and this one doesn't fail to disappoint. "Remember, it's a dry heat." Trust me, that will be funny once you've read the book ;)
I rated it like this because the rest of the characters are so amazing and the plot is really interesting, but I could have rated it even lower.
This installment is about our amazing DANIEL. Men, I have been waiting to read his book since the beginning of the series, I have been in love with Daniel forever, only my love for Alaric was stronger. Our amazing hero has been a tortured soul for 11.000 years and has been trying to be good this last years, trying to redeem himself. He only loved once and that was almost 11.000 years ago, when he was still human. He thought he had lost her, so imagine his surprise when from nowhere she appears just in front of him. It doesn't take them much to remember the reasons for why they loved each other so much in the past.
My main problem was THE HEROINE... I hated her. IMHO Serai was just an annoying and whining bimbo. I couldn't stand her at all most of the time. Daniel was just too good for her. I had big expectations for Daniel's HEA and they were completely shattered after meeting her, he just could have done so much better **sniff. I'm still happy because at least he got someone who loves him, REALLY loves him and would do anything for him. Still, I never got to like the relationship between the 2 of them, it felt forced and false.
This is an amazing series and there's just so many things involve and so many events happening at the same time that you just can't help to love each book. There were many small romances developing at the same time that were pretty terrific as well.
Can't wait for ALARIC'S book, I'll go catatonic once it comes out.
Wow, I am in total Awe because I didn’t know what to expect from Daniel (mage vampire) and Serai (Atlantean Princess) story in the beginning but man was I surprised at how the story swept me away with each characters circumstances and desperations. This was truly an amazing story as it had me almost to tears in the end going from sadness to happy smiling overjoy. Of course the erotic scenes were hot and the connection and action between all the characters was perfect.
I love all these Warriors of Poseidon’s and how all their women are just as strong willed and determined and not afraid to kick ass. And let’s not forget about Poseidon the Sea God, I love it when he shows up in the end and makes his mark on the story. Now I can hardly wait for the next book Heart of Atlantis (Alaric and Quinn’s story).
Great paranormal romance with an action plot. Some series are like TV sitcoms, they go stale rather quickly. Not this one! Alyssa Day manages to give each book its own fresh view of the world while moving the series story arc along and resolving the main story line.
The hero is Daniel who has played an enigmatic role through several of the previous books. We've known him by several names [Daniel/Devon/Drakos/Demetrios] and in several roles - most recently he had become the vampire head of state. Our story starts with him telling them all to shove it and going out to meet the sun in the middle of the reflecting pool on the Washington DC mall... Good plan until SOMEONE interfered and smacked him clear to Atlantis.
Those who have been following the series know that somewhere in Atlantis lies a vault of ancient, sleeping maidens who were put into stasis 11000 years ago to be married off to Atlantean Royals as needed. [This was a very big issue in the first book as the heroine was neither Atlantean or even a maiden and Conlan fell in love with her anyway.] Our heroine is Serai, one of these maidens, rudely yanked into the here-and-now by the malfunctioning Emperor gem - yet another of the gems Atlantis needs before it can rise above the waves. More importantly, the gem is harming the remaining [still sleeping] maidens and hurting her as well. She flees Atlantis with the help of the Portal [which now has a presence and an over-the-top verbal attitude] and Daniel who materializes at her feet. Seems she and Daniel were in love with each other back in the old, still-above-the-waves Atlantis - and both had been told the other was dead. Talk about an ages old, long unrequited love! Can a vampire mage and an Atlantean princess find happiness while tracking down the missing gem, fighting off other vampires, witches, and the paranormal ops troops? And then figure out how to use the gem to save the remaining maidens? Sure they can...
Another big change of scene in this book, most of it is set in and around the red rock country of Sedona, Arizona. Poseidon makes an appearance towards the end of the book and makes it REALLY clear he doesn't like the area at all.
There are some real bombshells laid on the story arc which are obviously setups for the next book. Serai makes it clear that priests don't have to be celibate, in fact are stronger magic users when they are balanced within the soul-meld. Big news for Alaric and Quinn. The Portal informs the warriors in Atlantis that no one can assist Serai and Daniel because they are being 'tested' and refuses to transport anyone out of Atlantis. Daniel gives over being Primus to Nicholas; another 'bad' vampire who seems to be trying make changes from within. Then Alaric, Quinn and tiger Jack disappear when supposedly on their way back to Atlantis...

Honestly speaking Vampire in Atlantis is one of the best books in the series!!! Day really outdid herself writing this book. You havent read the series you have no idea what you are missing. I am so glad I was brought into this exciting world that Day has created. It special and unique. I couldn't help myself just to fall head over heels in love.
Serai is an Atlantean who just so happens to been locked away and saved for a future King of Atlantis. Now here is the kicker....she has been trapped for over eleven thousand years! Yes, you read that right. LOL I couldn't Imagine but anyways she gets the chance to free herself and Oh- Boy does she take it. Cant say I blame her. Now in world she no longer knows, she has made it her mission to save the other Maidens who have also been locked away for the future. But the stone that keeps them captive is has gone missing . Can she save the other maidens before they reach their death?
Daniel is a Vampire who has only really had one true love, but that is eleven thousand years ago. Not happy with life anymore he had decided it is now time to meet the sun, meaning death. While in the process of taking his life he is confronted by a woman who he seems to remind him of his only love. Crazy right?! Well, it gets better! Now a choice has to be made, will he take his only chance at life now?
This story was amazing! Daniel is truly one of my favorite characters of this series. Day brings you not only love, but misunderstanding and betrayal. How everything plays out makes it a wonderfully fantastic read that I couldn't bring myself to put down. The characters jumped off the page and into my heart. I don't think I can say enough of how much I loved this story. The emotions that came with the characters was truly deep and had wondering who in the heck is behind all of stories. I loved how she brought back the characters for the earlier books. It was nice to re visit with them. Oh and let me mention you get more of the High Priest everyone has been dying for?!? Squeeee!!!!
The next Warriors of Poseidon series is set to release in 2012 and is called Heart of Atlantis. Finally the tension between the High Priest and Quinn will be answered hopefully. If you haven't started this series, I seriously suggest you do so. I mean if you don't believe me ask Tori over at Smexybooks. This series will keep you intrigued and well invested in. I hope it doesn't end anytime soon. Happy Reading!
In this seventh book of the Warriors of Poseidon series the whole gang is back with a couple of additions. Set in Day's wonderfully crafted world, this time there are the usual vampires, shapeshifters, Atlantean warriors, wizards and witches plus a sorceress, "virginsicles" and the Emperor gem.
The vampire Daniel (a.k.a. Drakos and Devon) takes the lead this time. For years he's thought his first love, Serai of Atlantis, was dead. Daniel is lucky. He's been given a second chance. Will he make the most of it or will he allow his "low born" ingrained low self-esteem get in the way and screw things up?
Serai, formerly - as in eleven thousand years ago - promised to the Atlantean High Priest as his wife, has been awakened out of stasis by the Emperor stone. Her first thoughts are of Daniel, her first love forbidden as it was with her being a high born princess. She grieves for him, thinking he abandoned her to her fate.
There is a lot of witty, humorous banter that had me just cackling (southern for "laughing out loud uproariously") such as (both from Serai): "I believe it is an imbalance in the male brain. They name it testosterone in this time. In mine, we merely called it stupidity." "There's something for her memorial. Didn't die naked."
Day's characters are so well written they come alive. The reader feels like they could actually interact with them. The young thirteen year old character of Ian is just a priceless gem. Who else would have the gumption to make demands of and to call the evil scary vampire "Dude"?
There is a shocking "Nuh un!! No way!!!" moment in the book that had me wailing out loud, "Noooooooo, he hasn't had his story told yet!" but, whew!, that was close. There is also another burgeoning romance, perhaps in a future story it will be explored. And to make a reference to "Linux"? Be still my programmer's heart.
The story starts out strong for the first 5 pages, but I must confess the next 40 or so pages had me somewhat struggling to continue to read. But then, on page 49, the story begins to be infused with humor and becomes much more like the Warriors of Poseidon series books I know and love.
If you haven't read the rest of the series yet, no worries. You can start here and then go back to the others without any problems.
Fans of paranormal romance, urban fantasy and vampires should enjoy this story.
Vampire Daniel, a sometimes ally to the Warriors of Poseidon, is feeling the weight of all his centuries and has decided to face the sun, but instead of death he finds a new reason to live in the woman he'd thought was lost to him.
The leading man Daniel was fine and I liked learning the backstory of the mysterious vamp who has turned up in the series from time to time, but I just couldn't get attached to his heroine Serai - even having thawed out from her thousands of years of statis, she was still too ice princess for me - there was sort of a funny line with respect to that something on the order of princessicles or such.
At any rate, I found myself more interested in what was going on with the supporting cast around them: Alaric and Quinn, tiger shifter Jack, and Atlantean Riesen and blue haired rebel hacker Mel, though there was a scene later in which the one handed Riesen is using his 'big hands' that had me totally confused.
The bottom line is that by the last third, even though I am generally hero-centric enough that I can overlook a lot in a heroine, I found Serai annoying and really just didn't care about what was happening anymore, so I ended up doing a rough skimming read of the rest of the book to catch anything important for the next books.
But moving forward, I am really excited that Jack will have a book and I am both excited and a bit nervous about finally (finally!) getting Alaric and Quinn's book, we've waited so long for their 'forbidden' love - and am hoping now that even though it is no longer really forbidden their story will have the intensity that I've longed for in their long awaited HEA.
I have always loved Daniel from the very beginning. There was always something about him. His ever changing names to to different roles that he play throughout the books. He was one of the men/vampires I couldn't quite pin down.
This story was not as action packed as some of the other books in this series. I think that this was more about the romance for Daniel and Serai. It was about thousand of years of unending love that they shared. I loved their story. I was kinda confused in the beginning about who Serai was and what it was all about. But then I quickly jumped in and loved it. Yes there was a small about of fighting and the quest to find the Emperor stone and for Serai to save her sisters. But for me it was the not the main focus of the book. Maybe I am wrong that's just what I felt.
I loved that there were some of my old friend in here again. I had missed them. Truly one of my favorite parts was the brothers and their wives talking in the garden about the problem that they were facing. The family bantering was so funny.I loved how the Erin kept hitting Ven in the head when he said something .At the end when they all came together to help one of their own was great. There were new people introduced and hope to read more about later. Like Melody and Reisen or Nicholas and Ivy. The Maidens that woke up. What is happening with Jack? What about Quinn and Alaric? Thank goodness their book is next. I am dying to know what will happen with them.
Awesome! My second favorite in the Warriors of Poseidon series, Justice’s story being my number one. In this book, it’s not just Daniel & Serai’s romance, it’s the whole story. Day brings back all the favorite characters in a suspenseful and action filled tale. Lots going on in this one! An excellent addition to the series.
Favorite Quote: “ You destroyed the cake? I loved that cake.”
After 11,000 years of living, Vampire and Nightwalker Guild mage Daniel is tired. He only wishes to leave this world and join his true love in the afterlife. He quits as Vampire Primator of North America and decides to end his life by watching the sun rise. As he watches the sun crest the earth and begin it’s ascent, he finds himself suddenly transported to Atlantis and sees the only woman he has ever loved-Serai.
Serai is an Atlantean princess who, with other maidens, was volunteered into statis when Atlantis was at war and vanished under the sea. She was promised she would only be confined until the danger had passed and when she awoke she would become His Highness Prince Conlan’s wife. 11,000 years later, the lost Emperor jewel (from Poseidon’s trident) is found by unscrupulous persons. Attempts to use it allows Serai to awaken and escape her ‘prison’.
Serai uses her magic to open a portal, which transports Daniel to Atlantis and to Serai. Daniel thinks he has gone to Heaven only to realize that Serai is alive and that he and she were lied to all those years ago. Daniel and Serai flee before the Atlantean’s can find and stop them. Now Daniel and Serai must find whoever is attempting to use the Emperor jewel and recover it before it kills her and her sisters.
Vampire In Atlantis gives us Daniel’s story. A story that I have waited a long time for. While I find all of Ms. Day’s books to be must reads, this one goes a step above. Love, redemption, betrayal, and plenty of suspense and action makes Vampires In Atlantis the best one to date.
Serai is my new heroine. While she is not your usual buff kick arse heroine, she has no qualms about using everything she can to fight for what she wants and lets no one stand in her way. A true princess in every way. The Emperor jewel managed to keep her abreast of world changes so she is quite modern in some areas yet delightful naive in others. Intelligent, courageous, and full of spirit- I found myself laughing and cheering her on as she lets everyone know what she thought about being kept in stasis and how she’s doing things her way now. She’s extremely angry over being kept ‘asleep’ for 11,000 years and what she feels is Prince Conlan’s and Atlantis’s betrayal. The best scene is when Prince Conlan meets and attempts to coerce her into returning to Atlantis and she lays into him.
“Lady Serai, I wish to formally welcome you to Atlantis and bid you to return.”
Ah. bad beginning. Bad, bad beginning.
“I have no need of your welcome to my home youngling.
I walked the fields of our lands when you were not in a wish in your great-great-grandmother’s heart, or a drop of seed in your great-great grandfather’s sac.”
************************
“Lost? Lost? In an underwater city trapped under it’s own prison-an all encompassing dome? Where, pray tell me, O High Prince Conlan, where those scrolls have gone to? Did giant fish swim by and steal them? Did the people get tired of ordinary food and eat them? Did the children of Atlantis decide to use them to wipe their bottoms? Please, oh Conlan, O future king, tell me how your linage managed to lose the only means to release us?
What I really enjoyed is the fact that yes, she is angry but she isn’t bent on revenge. She knows what needs to be done but it will be done on her terms. Being Atlantean herself with some incredibly powerful magic-the alpha warrior men in here do not dictate to her more then once-and they learn to regret that.
“You don’t understand, the Emperor is operating incorrectly. You may be in danger.”
“Really? I might be in danger? You mean, apart from the bit where the fluctuation in the Emperor’s power nearly killed me in the statis pod so I had to escape? Or the part where someone is trying to weld the gem’s magic and sent me into seizures as I came through the portal? No wait-maybe the fact f I can’t find the Emperor and retrieve it before whoever tries it again, the power fluctuations that already almost killed me could kill us all?”
Plus, being in statis has not curbed her snarkiness. She has it in spades.
Daniel is so different here than the previous books. We have watched and wondered as he went from enemy to frenemy of the Atlanteans. He has sacrificed much in trying to stop the goddess of chaos. Hard decisions made towards those he had come to care about has left him cold and empty. In here, we learn his back story and see a different side to him. Playful, funny, and happy. Finding Serai alive has renewed his will to live.
“Look. It’s Draco, curled around the little dipper. Was that one of your names?”
“Honey, there is nothing little about my dipper.”
Watching Daniel and Serai rediscover themselves and their love is beautiful and romantic. What I loved is the misunderstandings are clarified quickly so we are able to spend the majority of the book watching their love rekindle and burn brightly. Separated for over 11,000 years, once they see each other again, it’s like they were never apart. While the love scenes aren’t explicit-the implications lead to playful and naughty thoughts. Daniel’s love helps Serai stand firm while Serai’s love for Daniel shows him and us there is more to him then what meets the eye.
An all star cast of characters shine in here as each plays an important part in the story. Old and new characters blend together as they race towards the Emperor jewel. We see more of Alaric and Quinn and get some advancement in their relationship. We meet some new characters who’s loyalties straddle the line but advance the arc in some interesting ways. I do hope to see them again in the future. The portal (or glorified elevator) comes out swinging in here and adds even more clues to the over all conclusion of the arc.
Fast pacing and an engaging storyline keeps the storyline flowing smoothly. Multiple story lines blend and enhance the main arc. The ending is an action filled race fraught with tension and suspense. I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the final blow to fall.
Ms. Day proves once again that her Warriors of Poseidon is the ideal series for all paranormal romance fans looking for adventure, romance, and suspense. Atlantis is rising and I plan on being there every step of the way.

We are so close to finding the last two gems in Poseidon's trident, which is the key to Atlantis rising to the surface. Recently, an Atlantis princess named Serai, who has been held in status for 11,000 years, was unexpectedly released from her crystal coffin due to a powerful explosion. She hurriedly made her way to the portal to avoid being trapped again but was tackled by the man she fell in love with many years ago when he was just a boy. The story between them is intense and they seem to be constantly facing challenges.
Daniel had lived over 11,000 years. He was the Primator of vampires in the U.S. Congress and he was tired and ready to face the dawn. Serai had spent the last 11,000 years in a type of suspended animation. Promised to the Atlantean Royal Prince Conlan, she has been left in her stasis to hear those around her live their lives. When the stasis magic is interrupted Serai breaks free of her stasis and Atlantis with Daniel in tow. If they can't find the jewel that's disrupting the magic, Serai and her sisters still in stasis will die, and Atlantis may never rise.
I have been waiting Daniel's book for what seems like forever. I am a HUGE fan of this series and Daniel was a favorite character of mine since the beginning. It was worth the wait, every agonizing second of it. Daniel has spent most of his vampiric life trying to atone for what he sees as his failures, the cross all noble heroes seem to bear. It is an admirable trait, but to paraphrase another favorite character of mine (shout out to the BDB) "Get off the cross, someone else needs the wood". Thankfully a pissed off Serai is just what he needs to smack him upside his "oh, so noble" head. Yeah, Serai is pissed, and with good reason. She was only 25 when put in stasis. (very young for an Atlantean) She knew her intended, Conlan, had married a human. Not that she loved Conlan, but still, she had waited millenia for him. When she escapes, Conlan wants to pull the kingly ruler card and order her back to Atlantis. She laid the verbal smack down on his butt and went about her merry way. My girl, Serai was channeling Sasha Fierce and taking no prisoners. She is woman, hear her roar.
Of course Alaric played a role in this book, along with his lady love Quinn. There are some major developments in their story line involving Jack (who really MUST have his own book). Lots of new characters and storylines evolving and making me anticipate the next book. There's even a guy with a regenerating hand *snort* I get so caught up in the story, I don't realize there's only a few pages left, and then I panic. This story had every emotional element known to man, love, lust, anger, hatred, laughter and joy and tear jerking sorrow. Yes, you might need a tissue or two. I can't recommend this series highly enough, and the Warriors of Poseidon are among the elite in romance heroes. Kudos to Ms. Day for a job well done.
I'm not finished yet, but I think this one is the weakest book of the whole series. I really love Alyssa Day's books! The Warriors of Poseidon is one of the best Paranrmal Romance Series out there! But I cannot love this installment... Daniel is quite a lovable male! He's interesting being an 11thousand years old vampire... But Serai! She just gets on my nerves all the time! The oh so powerful virgin maiden ... after a brief incident of near death experience "Come on and take me! I don't wanna die a virgin!"... Well, very realistic considering that her life and the life of all maidens in stasis is at risk! And her fear of hights?! Ever heard of overcoming one's fears in the face of death?! If I had to choose between flying in the arms of the man I love although I being afraid of heights and being really fast at my destination... or walking through the mountains for days, risking to be cought, risking to die of thirst, rising my males life because he can't face the sun (who says there's always a handy cave nearby?!) ... I guess, I'd just face my fears! So most of the plot is something I didn't really get... they're running out of time, she gets weaker every day... and they just kepp thinking about sex?! Even in a Romance this isn't really likely! And in addition I just hated the way Conlan and the others reacted! After everything they themselves have been through with their mates... THIS?! I think it was disappointing. But I LOVED the scenes with Alaric and Quinn! I am SO looking forward to his story! I think he is the most interesting one of the Warriors! So in the end, I can only give 3 stars for the book. And actually a huge part of it I only give because I love the series... If this had been the first book I guess I hadn't bothered to read the others... so I'm glad it isn't :)
Edited: Well, the ending was nice, so I'd give 3.5 - but the actual story just wasn't as great as the others.
I have to say that after the last two books in the Warriors of Poseidon series, this one pales in comparison. While still a good story, at times the dialogue between the main characters or other Atlantean warriors felt choppy and forced. Likewise, it took me a long time to warm up to the romance between Daniel and Serai. With that said, the couple grew on me over the course of the book, so that by the time the heroic sacrifices are made and the climax occurs, I felt the sting of injustice in my heart and held a tear in my eye.
The story also involves another regionally powerful vampire, Nicholas, a sorceress, Ivy and her young teenage son, Ian. Once again, I enjoyed their story line, and hope this isn’t the last time we see them; however, I had some issues with the characters and events.
With all that said, I did like the book and felt it was a worthwhile, enjoyable read and an integral part of a great series (one on my auto-buy list).
My Rating: 3 stars: Liked it, but I had some issues - recommend (B)
A great story that i enjoyed reading. Talk about a lifetime of waiting. Daniel is a vampire and a mage and he has believed for the longest his beloved was lost to him. It turns out she is one of the sleeping maidens in the temple of Atlantis and she wakes up to help Atlantis save the other maidens that are dying and find the jewel of Atlantis to help. Serai is a powerful woman and just what the doctor ordered for her long lost lost love Daniel who is her true mate. A must read.
This is the longest it's taken me to finish a book. I even stopped and started (and finished) other series/books just to come back to this and try to get through. This was not my favorite story in the series. I just didn't connect with the characters.
I felt as if Alyssa Day just phoned this novel in. It just lacked the magic the other books had.
The first 2/3 of the book was tough for me to get through. It took me days to read it. It seemed very drawn out. Although I can never leave a book unfinished.
Seventh in the Warriors of Poseidon paranormal romance series about the elite guards for the High Prince of Atlantis and their allies. The couple focus is on Daniel and Serai. The jewel focus is on the Emperor.
It's been 11 years since the vampires came out to the world.
My Take Okay, Daniel has worked really hard to get to this point. He's finally in charge, governmentally, of all the vampires in the U.S. And the first thing he's going to do is resign?? Now, where does this make any sense?? Nor do I understand just how he got transported to Atlantis??
Lots and lots and lots of melodrama over: Daniel being turned into a vampire and it's all Serai's fault; Serai being placed in the stasis pods and purposely NOT being released; the attack on Reisen; heck, Reisen's attack; Jack's perilous state; Nicholas forcing Ivy to manipulate the stone; and, finally the fortuitous bit of military interference at the end.
Nobody takes any time at all to ask questions, they all just leap to conclusions. Oh. My. God. Is Day getting bored with trying to write well?? There's the deal with Serai jumping to conclusions about Reisen's hand. A totally out-of-the-blue reaction. In spite of the long alliance Atlanta has had with Daniel, everybody is leaping on him. Including Conlan and Justice. It's almost as though Day has a jar full of actions and she picks one out and dumps it into the storyline…WTF??
There are so many misconceptions flying around in this story and Day stretches these out beyond belief. Guess she didn't want to expend the brainpower on coming up with something else and/or couldn't shorten up the number of required pages.
Well, obviously Serai isn't that worried about her sisters if she'd rather take days to get to the Emperor — the same stone that is draining her power and her life — instead of sucking it up and flying with Daniel. This is just too lame. Heap, big, powerful, ancient Atlantean is too afraid to fly even as she whines on and on about how late they are. And then, they take time out to make love…I guess we got to the part in the page timeline where Day is supposed to plop in a love scene. In spite of the fact that "Those women depend on us, and every minute we spend in this foolish debate is perhaps another minute less that they have to survive". The dramatic tension just doesn't exist; I'm just not buyin' it with all the faffing around Serai is doing.
We do get quite a bit of Daniel's backstory. Sad, gruesome, but fascinating. We also have interaction with the Portal! Who knew it was alive?! Pissy little thing.
The end is really good and so sad — hey, it made me cry — although, it doesn't quite make up for the rest of this lousy bit of writing.
The Story It's been a long slog, but Daniel is now the "Primator, Ruler of the Primus, the third house of the United States Congress". And he's done. The backstabbing. Heck, the front stabbing.
Something is wrong with the Emperor stone and its connection to the Maidens' Chamber and it is that erratic state that allows Serai to waken. Angry. Frustrated. They LIED! And she must escape or she will be captured and re-imprisoned where she will simply die. The betrayal has been too great. She must find the stone and repair its connection lest the rest of the maidens die. Not to mention that Atlantis will never rise again!
The Characters Daniel is a thousands-of-years-old vampire who has gotten very tired of the battles, the betrayals, the fighting. He aches for the woman he loved and he's ready to end it all now that he's achieved his highest goal.
Serai is one of a group of Atlantean maidens "encouraged" to accept being put into stasis. The deal was for a few years. Not the 11,000 that have passed. And one of the culprits is bloody High Prince Conlan! Her fellow maidens are Merlina, Delia, Brandacea, Guen, and Helena.
The Seven consist of… …the King's Vengeance "Ven" and Erin, a powerful witch (Atlantis Awakening); Lord Justice (Ven and Conlan's half-brother) and Dr. Keely McDermott (Atlantis Unleashed); Alexios with his part goddess-huntress Grace (Atlantis Unmasked); Brennan's curse has been broken and he's with Tiernan Butler, a reporter (Atlantis Redeemed); Christophe and Lady Fiona, the fairytale writer for children (Atlantis Betrayed); Denal who ends up having his own unexpected adventure in the Summer Lands; and, the infrequent Bastien with his park ranger-kitty Kat (Wild Thing: Wild Hearts in Atlantis). Alaric is the High Priest. High Prince Conlan is conflicted over his feelings for Serai while Princess Riley has absolutely positive about her feelings and her anger toward the priests and most of Atlanta (Atlantis Rising). Conlan does hold a trump card as far as Riley heading out to help in the battles — their infant son, Prince Aidan. Marie is the head of the temple dedicated to childbirth and she is mated to a panther shapeshifter, Ethan, the alpha of his pride (Shifter: Shifter's Lady).
Horace is the chief attendant for the Maidens' Chamber. Reisen is an exiled Atlantean lord (see Atlantis Rising) now fighting with the rebels. Quinn and her crew are crucial in this story. Jack Shepherd is a shapeshifting tiger who fights at Quinn's side; he'd sure like to do a lot more than that with Quinn. Mel is a rebel computer hacker.
Ivy Khetta is the high priestess of the Crescent Moon coven. A black sorceress hired to retrieve the Emperor. Ian is her very brave, cheeky son. Nicholas is the vampire in charge of this expedition; Smithson is an evil and venal human banker who won't hesitate to backstab for his own benefit. Well, heck, he's willing to betray the human race, what's one more?
Colonel Brig St. Ives is now working with a paranormal task force. And Smithson seems to be their commander!
The Cover and Title The cover is a range of purples creating the background of Hellenic ruins and a crashing sea punctuated by dripping man flesh encased in leather pants. Daniel's warrior tattoo is burned into the right side of his chest.
The title says it all as it is all about Daniel as the Vampire in Atlantis.
Poseidon Savaşçıları serisinin 7.kitabında serinin önceki kitaplarında da gördüğümüz Poseidon Savaşçılarından desteğini esirgemeyen vampir Daniel’in hikayesi anlatılıyor.
Quick & Dirty: Strong characters and great world building draw you in and keep you strapped to your chair, turning pages. Fast paced with notable action and steamy love scenes.
Opening Sentence: Daniel looked out at the sea of red eyes glaring back at him in the vast oak-and-marble chamber of the Primus and wondered, not for the first time, why the hell he’d ever wanted to be the ruler of the North American Vampires.
Review:
I have been waiting on Daniel’s story since he was first introduced in Atlantis Rising. I knew that he would have an interesting story. I love Daniel and his struggle to do the right thing even though he is a vampire in a world where being a vampire means you are evil. Daniel has continually stepped up and helped the Warriors of Poseidon, Quinn and her rebels many times, even at the risk of outing himself. Vampire in Atlantis tells Daniel’s much-anticipated story. We learn how he became a vampire and the reasons behind why he fights so hard to retain his humanity.
Day’s world building continues in Vampire in Atlantis as she takes us back 11,000 years to Atlantis just before the events transpire to sink it beneath the sea. I was drawn into the story that Day tells of a young, hardworking blacksmith apprentice and the beautiful young maiden that he falls in love with, and the terrible events that pull them apart.
At the start of the book, Daniel has had enough with his loneliness and despair and decides that he wants to face his true death. As he watches the sun rise he is drawn to Atlantis just as Serai is trying to escape. Startled, the two realize that the other is still alive. They embark on a journey to save Serai and her sister maidens, whom remain in stasis. The relationship between the two grows and you can see how they fell in love all those years ago.
I love Alyssa Day and her world filled with strong alpha warriors and stronger female characters. Vampire in Atlantis is no different from the previous six books in that regard. Daniel protects Serai and helps her find the Emperor and regain herself after being locked in stasis for 11,000 years. Serai helps Daniel see his own self worth and to see the good in the things that he has accomplished when he only sees the horrors that he has committed. Serai was a little weak to me in the beginning. She whined and at times seemed a bit childish. I expected her to be stronger to match Daniel’s fierceness. After learning of her ordeal I am a bit more sympathetic to her and when the time came she took charge and became the strong female character that I have come to expect from Day. Both characters grow throughout the book and emerge on the other side stronger and better for it.
All the other Warriors of Poseidon make appearances in the story. I was disappointed with Conlan and the other warriors in their actions toward Serai and Daniel, even after all that they themselves had been through with their own mates. Day also hints at a possible relationship between Reisen and a gothic computer whiz named Melody. I look forward to seeing more of the two of them in future books as well as the most anticipated relationship between Quinn and Alaric.
Overall, I enjoyed Daniel and Serai’s story. Vampire in Atlantis is fast paced with lots of action as Daniel, the Atlantean warriors, and their allies fight to protect mankind. Once again, I was sucked into the world that Day created and lost track of time. If you want to escape reality for a while, Vampire in Atlantis is a must.
Notable Scene:
“Stand back, female, or face my wrath,’ Serai declared in English, holding her hands out to her side in the ready position.
Quinn’s mouth fell open, and the impudent woman began to laugh. At Serai. Anger heated up, became rage.
“Seriously? Face my Wrath?’ Quinn shook her head. “Daniel, where did you get her? Melodrama R Us?’
Serai’s face flushed. It had sounded a little over the top even as she said it, but she wasn’t exactly experienced at facing down humans in combat. The tiger paced forward, snarling at Daniel, until it stood next to Quinn.
“I’m out of practice at issuing warnings, human” Serai snapped. “But how is this for something you can understand? Keep your pet kitten away from Daniel, or I will be forced to harm it.”
The tiger paused, mid-snarl, tilted its head to the side, and stared at her, its tongue hanging out the side of its mouth. It almost looked like he, too was laughing at her.
Quinn laughed. “Right. Daniel, tell your girlfriend there that we don’t have time for all this posturing and to stay away from Jack or she’ll get hurt. Now we need o talk about what you’re doing here –“
The tiger’s snarl interrupted the human just before it signaled its intent to attack by bunching its powerful muscles and tensing for the leap. Daniel growled deep in his throat, almost as wild as the tiger, but Serai was suddenly fed up with all of them. She called to the pure magic of Atlantis, the magic she had once wielded with little skill but that now rushed to her call. Jack leapt into the air again, but this time Serai knocked Daniel out of the way, and she sprang up to meet the tiger.
On its own terms.
Daniel fell backward, knocked out of the way by more than a quarter ton of tiger. He landed on his ass, and bounced back up immediately, wincing as the tigers crashed into each other. Serai had transformed in an instant’s shimmer of magic into an enormous tiger – bigger than even Jack, nearly as big as a horse. She roared, and Daniel almost fell over.
She wasn’t just a tiger. She was a saber-toothed tiger.

Had to rate like this because I felt the sex scenes were almost too much, too fake, and many odd timing. And lastly kinda got stale and boring. Other than that I liked the flow of the series. I liked the characters a lot too. I mean I hate to rate it low, but for me in looking at the big picture, this is Atlantis! This is the lost City! This is like friggin ShangriLa!!! And at the times when speed and haste and urgency can make the diff between living and dying, the writer starts in with "I wanna put my cox in u so bad", seriously? And it's the same boring line in all the books! And the timing for a lot of it didn't fit the flow of the storyline. I felt she was trying too hard to reel readers in with sex. Jus my opinion tho. Too fake for me. Not saying it should only be every day at 5:00 pm or something lame like that, but the timing was off key and almost desperate. So I had to fwd thru all of the fake sex scenes, however the computer nerd chic and the one guy in the hotel, I thought that one was perfect, exciting, timing was dead on .. it fit the scenario.
I couldn't get past Serai acting like the spoiled princess that she is to understand why Daniel supposedly loved her so much.
I understand being upset about being in stasis for 11,000 years, and being mad at the man you feel abandoned you, but at some point she should have realized it was more to it that what she thought. Also, how could you stay mad when not long after escaping stasis you literally run into the man you love so much?
Also, the back and forth of not taking her innocence to wanting to f*ck her was crazy. Then we get to the end and what??? Who is the villain? Does anyone get punished for what the maidens went through or was this entire thing just an excuse for Serai to awaken/escape from Stasis so that Daniel can have a love interest?
There was a reason, why I skipped this book. I have read the rest of the series and really could have went without reading this one. I don't feel it added much to the story for me.
-there was a mistake where a man lifts someone up in the air with his *hands*. except he only has one hand, the other hand was cut off.
"why are you smiling? what kind of deep-shit massive trouble have you brought me that could possibly cause you to move your rusty face muscles like that?"
"ven has chronic mouth-runs-faster-that-his-brain syndrome."
"i believe it is an imbalance in the male brain. they name it testosterone in this time. in mine, we merely called it stupidity."
"i think you have the right to be all kinds of bitter, serai. i also think you're right that we don't have the time for it now. after this, though? we're going to have a big old wallow." "with cake? there definitely needs to be cake with our wallowing."
"frankly he'd rather have been doing something more fun -anything more fun- like sitting on a beach drinking beer, or, hey, maybe picking porcupine quills out of his ass with a crowbar. had to be more fun than this."
ok so this of course is book 7 of the Warriors of Poseidon series this one has to do with Daniel and Serai..he is a eleven thousand yr old vampire and she is a Atlantean maiden princess also eleven thousand yrs old..she was in stasis all that time waiting to be awakened to marry a prince of Atlantis only that didn't happen..she is awaken by the Poseidon's gemstone called the Emperor which was a powerful gem that kept the girls all 6 safe until some not so good people found it and using a black magic with to control it to find treasure kills 2 of them and frees Serai who runs into Daniel a man she has loved since before Atlantis disappeared under the sea..now they must work together to save the other 3 girls lives as well as Serai..good book enjoy
Well, Daniel's story was worth the wait.. for me anyway I'm not convinced it was worth eleven thousand years for Daniel and Serai...lol that seems way beyond cruel and unusual punishment but it also made the story for me as it added such a magical element to the romance side of the story.
There was a lot happening in this book and I know we are nearing the end of the series which gives me anxiety for multiple reasons...lol I can't wait to see how it ends but at the same time, I want more.
I seriously want an Ivy and Nicholas story those two had a very interesting connection and I just love Ivy's son.
