St. Barth’s has a murder rate of zero. But that’s about to change.
“Utterly delectable and addicting . . . Sunburned is what happens when Agatha Christie meets a thoroughly modern, sexy sensibility.”—Ashley Winstead, USA Today bestselling author of Midnight Is the Darkest Hour
When Audrey Collet’s ex Tyson calls, threatening to expose the skeletons in her closet unless she helps him figure out who is blackmailing him, she wants nothing more than to refuse. Though their relationship ended over a decade ago, the scars are deep. And since his tech company made him a billionaire, he’s become more than a little eccentric . . . and paranoid.
But a foot has washed ashore in the Everglades—that’s right, an actual human foot, encased in an Air Jordan—and Tyson is quick to remind Audrey that it’s one whose long-dead owner they both have a connection to. A connection that could prove problematic, if it got out.
Audrey reluctantly agrees to meet Tyson at his home on the swanky Caribbean island of St. Barth’s to help him figure out who in his entourage is extorting him and what they know about the secrets he and Audrey share. Once there, she realizes that each person staying at Tyson’s lavish estate has a reason to wish him harm. Could the culprit be the gorgeous Belgian wife whose wings he’s clipped? The celebrity business partner he’s essentially holding hostage? The older brother who’s always been in his shadow? Or the sexy French butler he seems to trust more than he should?
Audrey has only just scratched the surface of what’s going on behind closed doors when Tyson’s birthday dive turns deadly, and she realizes that one of the seven people trapped on his yacht with her is not just a blackmailer but a murderer. If Audrey can’t catch the killer in time, she might become the next victim.
Sunburned is a locked room juicy mystery full of scandal and suspense, and with this title, you know it’s perfect to read poolside!
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆?
I love how this story alternated between the past and present to explain how this group of friends started out and all the dark secrets they share. Then, throw in a healthy dose of very unreliable characters, and I found myself guessing who was to blame for several things throughout the story.
Stephanie Németh-Parker’s immersive narration made for an excellent companion to this hot thriller! I could feel the heightened tension and emotional stakes through her amazing storytelling.
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲?
The story itself holds a steady pace, and the mystery is a slow burn.

Thank you random house publishers for this gifted copy and exchange for my honest opinions.
Sunburned is what happens when a tropical vacation collides with blackmail and betrayal. Audrey is the kind of heroine you root for. She’s sharp, sarcastic, and just messy enough to keep things fun. The island is pure luxury, but beneath the yacht parties and sun-kissed beaches, everyone’s hiding something (especially her ex and his new wife). Think ‘Knives Out’ meets ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer.’ This whole story is twisty, tense, and totally addictive!
In short, if you crave your mystery with sunshine, secrets, and smart sass, Sunburned is your next beach bag essential.
Sunburned releases July 1st
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine for an arc of this book. All opinions are my own.
5 stars. What a fiery summer thriller! Extortion, deadly secrets, a gorgeous Mediterranean locale.. AND a murder mystery.. enjoyed it all. Twisty and high on suspense this centers around our MC Audrey who’s sent to St Barth to help her ex Tyson - a billionaire tech CEO - uncover his blackmailer.. or else have her own skeletons in the closet exposed. Shortly thereafter a body surfaces and Audrey finds herself trapped aboard his yacht after a birthday dive where everyone is a suspect.. all have a motive, all despise him. Loved this whodunnit with the uber wealthy and all their scandalous drama.. such a fun escapist read! Pub. 7/1/25
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.
Love Katherine Wood’s writing style. I instantly feel immersed in the setting and characters. This had everything you need for a great summer read: island setting, mystery, tension, secrets, the inability to trust anyone, and so much money I can’t wrap my head around this lifestyle.
Audrey is summoned to an island birthday party by her ex she hasn’t seen/spoken to in over 10 years. He needs her investigative skills to find out which person close to him is blackmailing him. As Audrey gets to know the other guests tragedy strikes while on a mega yacht diving trip, causing everyone to go from potential blackmailer to full on murder suspect. Even Audrey starts to look suspicious to the police.
This all takes place through Audrey’s POV in present and past (11years earlier) timelines. I enjoyed the pacing of “Sunburned” and the reference to the title used as a code word throughout the book.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for this ARC. This review will be shared on NetGalley and Goodreads. Pub Date Jul 01 2025
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sunburned by Katherine Wood "What happens on St. Barth’s... might just kill you."
Review:
Sunburned is the kind of thriller that sinks its perfectly manicured nails into you from page one and does not let go. Katherine Wood delivers a glitzy, high-stakes murder mystery drenched in Caribbean heat, dark secrets, and biting wit.
Audrey Collet is the reluctant heroine we didn’t know we needed—scarred, smart, and sardonic. When her billionaire ex, Tyson, calls her back into his chaotic orbit with a blackmail threat involving a severed foot and a shared dark past (yes, really), the mystery kicks into high gear. Cue the private island, the gorgeous but deadly ensemble cast, and the claustrophobic luxury of a yacht party gone very, very wrong.
Wood's prose is sleek and addictive, the kind of writing that effortlessly switches between laugh-out-loud sharpness and edge-of-your-seat tension. The characters are impeccably drawn—each one layered, suspect, and hiding something. It’s like Knives Out meets Big Little Lies, with a touch of beach noir that makes you want to sip a rum cocktail while scanning for alibis.
The pacing? Impeccable. The twists? Genuinely gasp-worthy. And that final act? Unputdownable.
Perfect for fans of: 🔪 Locked-room mysteries 🌴 Lush island settings with dark undercurrents 💅 Characters behaving badly in beautiful places 🕵️♀️ Smart female leads with a messy past
This book absolutely deserves a spot in your beach bag—just don’t trust anyone around you while you read it.
Sunburned was a scandalous read! I was immediately intrigued by the luxurious island setting and distinct premise. This was my first read by Katherine Wood. It was a slow burn thriller with the most unpleasant and deceitful characters, but their vile and appalling personalities fit this narrative perfectly.
Sunburned was about betrayal, secrets, and the complexities of relationships. The story centered around Audrey Collet, who was drawn back into the life of her ex-boyfriend, Tyson, when he was blackmailed and faced a threat of exposure. Audrey wanted nothing more than to refuse his invitation. She reluctantly traveled to St Barths to help him figure out who in his entourage was extorting him which led her to confront her past and the secrets she and Tyson, along with others, had been holding onto.
I always enjoy a solid locked room mystery and this was certainly one with a twist. I loved how Wood fabricated the most luxurious private island setting. A yacht in the South of France was an enticing backdrop for this unique narrative. I was instantly drawn to the lavish lifestyle captured from the very first page. The intricate descriptions set the tone and I felt as if I was there with the characters living their lifestyle and navigating the mystery along with them.
In addition to the compelling plot and beautiful island setting, all of the characters were well drawn out. Even the least likable characters were interesting. Audrey, the main protagonist, was vulnerable and caring, yet a strong and driven woman. She was determined to help her ex find the person blackmailing him. While doing this, Audrey confronted the repercussions of her own choices and ended up discovering a deeper understanding of her own values and motivations.
Along with the established plot and characters, Wood did a good job at exploring a variety of themes. This story took a close look at the betrayal and secrets of the characters both in the past and present day. More specifically, these themes examined the consequences of betraying trust and the lengths people go to keep secrets. This story also focused on the complexities of relationships and the complicated web of connections between people. Some of the characters revealed hidden truths about their pasts and highlighted the power of secrets and the potential for them to unravel theirs and others lives which led to devastating consequences.
Despite all the positive aspects there were a few aspects that didn’t work well. First, there was a lot of dialogue. A bit too much for my taste, and with that, there were a few too many technology references in the first quarter of the book. Second, there were some coincidences that had me questioning its credibility, and lastly, there was a lot of repetition of the narrator expressing their emotions and concerns. Sometimes less is more, and in this instance, this could have been tidied up.
All in all, Sunburned was a scandalous locked room mystery thriller. If you like stories about wealth, betrayal, secrets, and complex relationships, you will most likely be entertained by this one.
Thank you to NetGalley, Ballantine Books and Random House for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
Sunburned was just ok. I feel like I was 60% into the book before anything happened. There was a dueling timeline between the present and 11 years ago, but all the players were the same and there was nothing super exciting.
It takes a lot of effort to make a multimillion dollar “vacation” to St Bart’s unexciting, but Katherine Wood managed it!
I’d consider this a “sleepy vacay read” vs an exciting thriller, and am genuinely confused by the 4+ star rating, usually GoodReads is so cut throat when it comes to reviews 😂 but it took me so long to get into this one… that it basically never happened
I enjoyed Katherine Wood's Ladykiller and so I was excited to see a new release. I was a little nervous because Ladykiller left loose ends and those tend to not sit well with me. However, Sunburned was an absolute 5 star read for me. The ending is wrapped up nicely and leaves no room for self-interpretation.
From the first pages I was pulled into Audrey's life. The secluded yacht set in the Caribbean makes for the best setting. Every character is suspicious and I didn't know who to trust. The mystery unfolds in layers with multiple twists which make you question everyone's motives. This book was perfectly done!
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine | Bantam for a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Glittering beaches, private yachts, and the intoxicating pull of wealth—Sunburned lures you in with its paradise setting and a seemingly straightforward mystery, only to unravel into a twisty, high-stakes thriller where no one can be trusted. Marissa Stapley once again proves her skill at blending psychological suspense with sharp, immersive storytelling, making this novel a riveting, sun-drenched page-turner.
Audrey Collet has built a career as a fixer, tracking down assets and uncovering hidden truths before lawsuits go to trial. But when her billionaire ex, Tyson, calls demanding help, she wants nothing to do with him. Their relationship ended badly years ago and reminds her of some of the secrets she'd like to keep buried. Still, Audrey agrees to meet him at his luxurious estate in St. Barth’s, where he insists that someone among his inner circle is blackmailing him—and that they both have a lot to lose if the truth comes out.
Against her better judgment, Audrey flies to his private estate in St. Barth’s, where he claims someone in his exclusive inner circle is blackmailing him. He has seven potential suspects—his new Belgian wife who seems to dislike him, an angry and volatile business partner, his resentful brother, and a mysterious French butler among and he expects Audrey to uncover the truth. When a seemingly routine birthday dive turns deadly, the hunt for a blackmailer turns into something far worse: a fight for survival.
Wood masterfully blends opulence with unease, crafting a world of money, manipulation, and long-buried secrets. The novel’s pacing is razor-sharp and the tension keeps the pages flying by. While Sunburned has the sunny allure of a beach read, it’s anything but light—it’s smart, tense, and utterly gripping, a slow-burn thriller that erupts into chaos when you least expect it.
For readers who love luxury with a side of danger, characters who are as complex as they are morally gray, and a plot that keeps you second-guessing until the very end, Sunburned is a must-read. Thank you Netgalley! Than#randomhouse #ballantine #katherinewood #ladykiller
I really enjoyed this one. I was hooked right from the start. Every character felt like they were hiding something, and I loved the mix of secrets, lies, and motives that kept me guessing.
The story follows Audrey, who ends up on the beautiful island of St. Barths after getting a call from someone she hasn’t spoken to in years, her old friend and former boyfriend, Tyson. He’s being blackmailed and asks her to help. Even though they haven’t talked in years, she agrees, but not out of kindness. He’s holding on to secrets from her past that she can’t afford to let out.
From there, things get twisty fast. The whole story is layered with suspicion, tension, and just enough glamour to make it even more gripping. I was constantly second guessing who could be trusted and who was just really good at pretending.
This one kept me turning the pages and left me wanting more. If you’re into mysteries with complicated characters and lots of secrets, this is definitely worth the read.
This is one of those wonderfully-convoluted novels that had me guessing all the way through! Protagonist Audrey was on a scuba diving excursion 11 years ago when 5 of them went missing. In the present she's still consumed with the mysteries surrounding the past and how it has seemed to collide with events today. Lots of suspense as she begins to uncover events that no one else deemed important. Extortion, blackmail...what's not to love? Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
Thanks for the ARC NetGallery! I really enjoyed this book. Any mystery/suspense novel that keeps me guessing all throughout the book is a winner for me. I didn't even guess all the twists!
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free, electronic ARC of this novel received in exchange for an honest review.

Audrey Collet has put her past behind her, now thriving as a single mom of twin boys and an entrepreneur. So, when her ex-boyfriend, Tyson, calls her, asking for her assistance in uncovering who is responsible for blackmailing him. As much as Audrey wants to refuse, Tyson threatens to destroy her life, and that of her young children and, Audrey knows, he has the money and influence to do it. Flown to an exclusive home on St. Bart’s, Audrey is suddenly a guest in Tyson’s luxurious home, surrounded by friends and co-workers, all who may want Tyson dead. It is up to Audrey to determine who’s behind the threats, or she will be the one who loses everything.
Katherine Wood, author of “Ladykiller”, returns with a sizzling, seductive book, “Sunburned”, perfect for the summer season. Our protagonist, Audrey, is flown to an island paradise, where she is out of place among the uber rich and super elite but is forced into solving one mystery after another to save her own skin. Yet another locked-room mystery (although in this case, more of a ‘locked yacht’ mystery), “Sunburned” is an addicting, immersive page-turner.
Among the cast of characters, there are likable ones (such as Audrey) and despicable ones (such as Tyson) , making it easy for the reader to choose sides and decide who to root for. Throw in a handsome and deliciously French house manager, Laurent, and the exotic Caribbean locale and, you can bet, you’re in for a spicy thrill ride!
There are just enough characters in Wood’s novel to make for a twisty-turny guessing game, providing many possible suspects that all have potential. The ending was unexpected, but it made perfect sense, as Wood concluded her well-developed, smooth plot in a cohesive way.
I was introduced to Wood with her novel, “Ladykiller”, and I’m glad to see that she hasn’t slowed down, providing a dynamic and creative second novel with “Sunburned”. I look forward to seeing Wood’s novel in the hands of many this summer, as it is just in time for beach season!
SUNBURNED is a sizzling summer thriller to add to your beach bag!
When Audrey's billionaire ex-boyfriend Tyson contacts her to help him figure out who is blackmailing him, she wishes she could blow him off. But they're connected by some big secrets that are problematic for her, too. Audrey reluctantly agrees to meet Tyson at his estate on the swanky Caribbean island of St. Barth’s. She soon realizes that everyone in his entourage has enough reason to wish him harm. Tyson’s birthday dive turns deadly, and she realizes one of the seven people trapped on his yacht with her is not just a blackmailer, but a murderer. If Audrey can’t catch the killer in time, she might become the next victim.
One thing about Katherine Wood (aka Kat St. John), she will ALWAYS grace us with a salacious story dripping with the sins of the wealthy! I'm always captivated by the glimmering beaches, lavish estates, yachts and characters behaving so badly that I can't turn away. SUNBURNED is no different with its twisty, suspenseful plot and complex relationships. Everyone has a motive and no one could be trusted. The scene when the group goes scuba diving literally had me holding my breath while my pulse was pounding. Talk about building TENSION.
If you love a locked-room mystery in a tropical paradise backdrop, grab this page-turner... perfect for sun-drenched pool or beach day this Summer!
I really enjoyed this book!!! I definitely don’t guess all the twists right away but there a couple I was able to sis out! I really enjoyed the main character as well! I thought she was pretty relatable and impressive! This was definitely the perfect poolside or beach read! I had a blast relaxing and getting lost in this twisty story!!!!
I really enjoyed this book! It kept me guessing the entire time. I thought I had things figured out more than once, but I was wrong every time, which made it all the more fun. The twists were clever and well paced, and the suspense never let up.
Going in, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the characters, but I ended up really liking Audrey, the main character. I also found myself unexpectedly invested in the relationship that develops between her and one of the other characters. I hadn’t anticipated any romance, but it was a nice surprise. It was subtle and secondary to the main plot, which kept the focus on the mystery.
The setting was vivid, the tension was strong, and the mix of personalities added layers to the story. If you like smart, twisty thrillers with a strong main character and plenty of suspense, this is one to check out.

This genre isn’t one I normally love, but I started the audio and couldn’t stop! I loved this cast of characters and the setting. It was fairly fast paced, and kept me interested for the entire story.
“Sunburned” is an unexpected story of complicated relationships and the choices we make, some good, some bad and some morally ambiguous.
As teen lovers, Tyson and Audrey were each others’ worlds. When Audrey’s mother becomes ill, Audrey, along with Tyson and his brother, choose to break the law in order to get the medical treatment needed to save her mother. She couldn’t possibly know the slippery slope she just embarked on.
Ultimately, this is about redemption and greed. But it’s also about unbreakable bonds. I loved this book and I am so grateful to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for the opportunity to read it. Five easy stars.
Okay I’m going to need NetGalley to stop sending SUCH GOOD widgets (kidding I love it).
Enjoyed the last fast paced book by this author so I’m looking forward to this one!
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for a chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review
what a fun and enjoyable read!! fast paced and easy to follow along with characters. So I'd say it took about halfway through for the mystery to come out, the entire time before was really building characters, timeline, and understanding of the history between them all.
there was bits of romance which I'm here for and was giving spy (pink panther) type of vibes with the main character. Swtiched between the past and present to give an understanding of the relationships between all the characters (Audrey & Tyson & Cole). Let me also just say Tyson is a piece of work, unlikable character but only makes you root for Audrey even more to get what she needs to get out of there.
would recommend for a quick mystery for the weekend :)
I loved this book and what an awesome first book from NetGalley! It was a really great combination of thriller, suspense, romance and "beach read." I love novels that include dual timelines and this was no exception. The dual timeline was done really well and it kept things moving quickly and contributed to the overall suspense of the novel. Katherine Wood's writing was captivating, easy, and kept the story fast paced making Sunburned an overall really enjoyable novel to read. The different plot points kept me guessing and every turn and I enjoyed all the twists--especially the ones I didn't see coming. Blackmail, romance, mystery, ghosts of the past, and murder set in the luxurious setting of St. Barths all come together to make this novel hard to put down and craving a a cocktail beachside. I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone who is looking for a summer suspense with a side of spice.
Someone is blackmailing billionaire tech businessman Tyson, who calls his ex-girlfriend Audrey, a “discovery agent” to uncover the person’s identity. Audrey, who wants nothing to do with Tyson since their acrimonious breakup 10 years ago, reluctantly agrees, as Tyson threatens to reveal Audrey’s secret if she refuses. When she meets up with Tyson and his group at idyllic St. Barth’s island, things take a deadly turn. Sunburned is an entertaining romp that features a stunning backdrop, interesting and eclectic characters, and a clever whodunnit that will keep readers guessing. The slow start lays the groundwork for the plot, as does the backstory interspersed between chapters, and that sets the stage for this perfect beach read, with pieces of the puzzle revealed as you flip the pages. Well written, a fun read. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
”This was a high-profile murder case on an island with a murder rate of zero, where high net worth tourists came to feel safe.”
THE ultimate “White Lotus goes full Agatha Christie” beach thriller. Equal parts vacation vibes and cut throat whodunit. Wood’s writing serves tropical cocktails of tension, gossip, and secrets, then hits you with a sharp twist. Pack this for poolside reading!
🌴THINGS AND STUFF🌴 -dual timelines -st. barth’s -arrest records -diving 🤿 -blackmail -complicated relationships -forced proximity -whodunit -code word: sunburned -#IsThisAKissingBook open door
Audrey Collett is being summoned to her ex Tyson's private Island on St Barth's. Despite not having seen each other for 10 plus years, Audrey seems to be the only one who can help Tyson find out who amongst his inner circle is blackmailing him. As Audrey starts to poke around the other guests, a diving trip goes terribly awry, elevating everyone from blackmail suspect to potential murderer. On a luxury yacht surrounded by people who all have motive, can Audrey figure out the truth before the target shifts to her?
So while this book does start off slow, it quickly ramps up the tension and suspense, just go with the flow. You don't know who you can trust which adds to that paranoia and mystery. Sunburned is definitely a whodunit in absolute paradise with the atmospheric setting a major highlight. Another strong point is the character development. Audrey as our female main character is relatable, resourceful, and believable while Tyson is more unpredictable but with that magnetic personality and charm that people are drawn to. Overall I would definitely recommend Sunburned to fans of tense, and twisty "rich people behaving badly" drama/thrillers with locked room vibes!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Katherine Wood, and Random House Publishing/Ballantine for this ARC! Publication date is July 1st 2025.
When Audrey Collet’s billionaire ex boyfriend, Tyson, invites her to his birthday bash in order to help him find his blackmailer, she is reluctant to go. They haven’t spoken in a decade and the secrets from their younger years are better off left buried and undisturbed. In typical Tyson fashion, he threatens to resurrect her skeletons if she doesn’t help him out. But when she arrives in beautiful St. Barth’s she discovers that any one of the birthday guests could have reason to betray Tyson and, furthermore, this person is also capable of murder. If Audrey doesn’t discover the mastermind behind the blackmailing she just might lose her own life.
I loved Ladykiller last year and equally loved this one. It’s safe to say that Katherine Wood is now on my “auto-buy” list and I can’t wait to read what she comes up with next!
Thank you Netgalley, Random House Publishing-Ballantine, and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. This book will be available for purchase on July 1, 2025
As summer reaches a fever pitch, it's the perfect time to vacation on the luxurious island of Str. Barth's. "Sunburned" by Katherine Wood will transport you there amongst the beautiful people partying on yachts and in nightclubs and imbibing at fancy chef-curated dinners. But wealth and privilege won't keep you safe when money and power are on the line so you best sleep with one eye open...
"Sunburned" finds Audrey Collet being summoned to her rich tech titan's mansion on the island, tasked with helping the paranoid billionaire get to the bottom of who in his entourage is blackmailing him. Which is RICH coming from Tyson who is basically doing the same thing to Audrey, threatening her with their shared destruction over secrets from their past. But before Audrey can uncover the truth, extortion escalates to murder and no one is safe. Surrounded by sharks, Audrey now has to peel back the lies to save her own life.
I thoroughly enjoy a story that connects the past to the present, takes you to an interesting location, has a bucket of lies, and where the stakes are life or death—this one has it all. And as the novel progresses, it becomes a locked-room murder mystery making everyone a suspect. Dun dun dun! The twists and turns will give you whiplash so hold on to your hat!
A summer standout ripe for a vacay read but don't forget your sunscreen. You don't want to get "Sunburned." Or worse...
Thank you to Katherine Wood, Bantam, & NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my authentic review.
** Minor non-mysterious and romance-y spoilers ahead **
Audrey Collet is a tech wizard and entrepreneur, a single parent of twin boys, and the ex-girlfriend of a tech billionaire.
When he requests she help him find the person blackmailing him, she has no choice but to agree.
The two of them have a shared past...and shared secrets.
First, I like the writing style and tone; it flows and is easy to read.
Audrey isn't unlikable but I wasn't a fan of her; she's incredibly naive when it comes to Tyson.
Considering their past, she seems shocked by his callous behavior and insensitivity, as if she's still the college student who was madly in love with him.
Second, I liked the Caribbean setting, though this is my third or fourth book featuring a super yacht.
Are yachts the new literary trend?
Third, the mystery isn't original.
I figured out the twists from the beginning, who did what and to whom and why.
I figured out early on how Tyson he made his millions and it wasn't because he was kind and brilliant.
There are a few moments that will test the boundaries of your ability to suspend disbelief; it did for me but by that time I had long guessed who the blackmailer was.
It isn't that it's hard to believe Audrey wouldn't recognize this person despite how much surgery you've had but it's hard to believe this person could insinuate themselves into someone else's life and be confident their ruse would work.
It would have been more believable if this person had been a business partner rather than a romantic partner.
Speaking of romance, I've said it before and I'll say it again, not every novel must feature the main character coupling up.
Did we really need Audrey and Laurent making eyes at each other and Audrey mooning over him, constantly thinking about him and wanting to get hands on him?
There are a lot of characters and everyone is hiding something, naturally, so there are red herrings to take into consideration and disregard.
I liked the writing, but the formulaic mystery and silly romance made the narrative tedious and repetitive as it progressed.
