This collector’s edition includes the never-before-published novella “The Making of an Earl,” which highlights select Summerhaven chapters told through Damon’s point of view.
Hannah Kent and Oliver Jennings pledged their hearts to each other as children. Now, years later, Hannah is thrilled to receive an invitation to spend the summer at Oliver’s family’s country estate. The path to wedded bliss is clear—so long as Oliver’s highbrow older brother, Damon, has ceased his juvenile antics, Hannah’s future looks bright indeed.
But from the moment Hannah arrives at Summerhaven, nothing is as she expected. Oliver seems disinterested in renewing their acquaintance, leaving Hannah at a loss to understand why, and Damon is not the brutish boy she remembers but a man intent on avoiding marriage. Although Hannah has loathed Damon her whole life, when he contrives a ruse designed to win Hannah and him what they both desire, Hannah warily agrees—by pretending to be madly in love with Damon, she can reclaim Oliver’s attention, and by pretending to court Hannah, Damon can avoid marriage. But when Damon is surprisingly convincing in his role as a suitor, it proves difficult for Hannah to discern the line between pretense and true love.

The collector’s edition comes with a novella that tells the story of Summerhaven from Damon’s POV. It didn’t really add anything new to the story except for three scenes that were not in the original story.
1. The beginning, where he won his horse Ares. 2. The subplot focuses on the strained relationship between the two brothers (Damon and Oliver), which wasn’t clear why they grew apart in the original story. Sadly, the brothers don’t reconcile by the end of this book, but maybe they will when Oliver gets his own HEA in his book. 3. Damon’s time away from the heroine when he and his father went to London and how he was introduced to Lady Margaret and her father (a Duke).

Damon and Hannah truly seemed destined for each other. I really enjoyed the playful fake courtship—they had such great chemistry! Damon was truly dreamy, and I loved seeing him gradually open up and become more vulnerable with Hannah; it made him so relatable. I absolutely adored him and felt like I really got to know him. Hannah is incredibly smart and kind, ready to stand up for what she believes is right. She's such a wonderful character. There were so many swoon-worthy moments throughout this book. Toss in the fun characters, a touch of sibling rivalry, and stunning descriptions, and it all came together to make a truly perfect read. The bonus part was the story written from Damon’s pov. The narrator did a superb job. She brought this spectacular book to life.
The novella included in the collector’s version from Damon’s POV was lacking its own substance. A lot of copy and past convo’s from the original book, I was wishing for more insight/storyline than it provided
I just read The Making of an Earl, and I loved it! Summerhaven is such a wonderful book, and I loved reading Damon’s perspective through this accompanying novella.
First of all, whoever decided that Summerhaven's collectors edition needed The Making of an Earl novella added was a genius. What could I possibly want after reading a super swoony romance book where he falls first, but she - the narrator - doesn't know it? That's right, to read the entire book again entirely from his perspective and WATCH him fall first and then pine for her. 10/10, no notes.
This was good. It's been on my TBR for ages because people rave about it but the back of the book just didn't sound like my thing (I am not a second chance love person). But I am SO glad I gave it a shot because it SO blew me away and was nothing like I worried it would be. I swooned, I sighed, I laughed, and I enjoyed the whole dang journey with Hannah and Damon. Damon is the perfect love interest and even though the plots and emotional arcs are different, I got Edenbrooke vibes from this book which is one of the HIGHEST compliments I can pay to a Regency book. I don't know what else to say. I loved it. I loved the novella. If you need a good Regency, this is the one.
What could be sweeter than returning to a beloved story?
Summerhaven by @authortiffanyodekirk Special Edition Novella ✨The Making Of An Earl✨
I usually steer clear of Love Triangles. I hate the sadness and disappointment one must feel, but every now and then I’ll read a book that makes me love the trope! Damon and Oliver, brothers in a world meant to tear them apart. I LOVED how they worked through misconceptions and the emotions brought on through a parent’s constant criticism for one son and never giving the other son a second glance.
Hannah caught in the middle of it all by cherishing her friendship with both brothers. She sets her cap for one and doesn’t realize the teasing of the other is his way of spending time with her.
You will LOVE: Playing her mothers song Frog Legs Ginger Candies Dark Ballroom KISS The Gazebo scene Love Triangle Done Right THE LETTER Their Dance
Favorite Quote: “I have loved you my whole life. I will always love you.”
✨The Novella from Damon’s POV was just what I needed! Absolutely lovely to read his thoughts and about his actions.
My bestie Heather picked up this read and I had to do a buddy read with her! This reread was extra delightful getting to respond to her thoughts and emotions. Always a joy to read with her.
If you haven’t guessed it. I love this story! One of my top Fave Regencies!!!! I snagged this book at an event and got to meet the wonderful Tiffany!
🌸 I just finished Summerhaven by Tiffany Odekirk, and wow—this might be one of the best books I’ve ever read! From the very beginning, I was completely captivated. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator made the story come alive—I could picture myself strolling through Summerhaven’s gardens and attending grand balls with friends. ✨
The relationships between Damon, Ollie, and Hannah were so intertwined and unpredictable that I truly had no idea who would end up with who until the very end. I love when a story mixes suspense with romance, and this one delivered perfectly. 💕
I highly recommend this book, and I can’t wait to dive into the second in the series, Winterset! 📚
Summerhaven (plus bonus novella The Making of an Earl) is so good! -House party -Close proximity -Fake courtship -Enemies to more -He falls first -Secret love I always love when the woman thinks she is in love with the brother and then realizes maybe he isn’t suited to her. But the older brother instead? No way, he tortured her as a child. Oh I enjoyed this lovely, sweet romance full of surprises and heartache, but also some joy. I own the paperback as well as listened to it for free on Hoopla. CW: Sweet kisses only
First reading October 6th, 2025: I'm counting this not as Summerhaven (though I did just reread that), but I'm counting it as The Making Of An Earl. It was nice seeing Damon's POV and I wished it would've just been in the original story, but I understand her reasons for keeping the book 1 POV instead of 2. It was fun and filled in a few gaps, especially his relationship with Ollie. Hopefully, we get more of that in Winterset!
This is a delightful story! I loved the chemistry between Hannah and Damon. My heart went out to them and I found myself cheering on what seemed to be an impossible love. I love how it all came together. So good! I loved the inclusion of the novella The Making of an Earl. I loved seeing Damon's POV as their relationship developed and matured.
This was absolutely delightful! I enjoyed it from beginning to end! The audio was so engaging, and it captivated me from start to finish. I highly recommend this one !! If you love regency romance this is a must !
I recently re-read this book for the 5th time. It is definitely in my top 5 favorite books of all time. (I own the hardcover and audiobook)
If you like Enemies to lovers and unrequited love, this book is for you!! Damon and Hannah are perfect for each other, but he is so misunderstood by her. Her clouded childhood memories lead her to hate him, but when they finally clear the air, how can she help but love him?! I love that in the special edition you get his background and his thoughts in the novella! His unrequited love, and years of watching Hannah love his brother tears at my heart. But, it makes the ending that much more worth it!
Things I LOVE about this book:
-When she casts up her accounts on his boots -When he rescues her as a kid -When he rescues her at the ball -The Frog legs Haha😆 -His Gambling -When the carriage jolts and she falls on him -Kiss on a hand and the cheek = Love -When he plays her mom's song -Their conversation by the river at the picnic... -Dancing alone in the ballroom -Working hard together on the roof -The Hair.... -The Gazebo
"Is that all it takes for you to fall in love with you- a kiss on your hand?" "And my cheek" "Had I known it was so easy" He chuckled under his breath.
"The overly cool way in which he spoke made me wonder if somewhere in the deep recesses of his heart he had a desire to be loved, not for what he was, but for who he was."
"Every time I thought I'd gained the upper hand in our conversation, he'd outwit me."
"You needn't throw yourself at me to get my attention... I assure, you already have it."
"Why do you do that? Make yourself small for my brother?"
"My motivations for asking you to dance were anything but pure Miss Kent. I am a man, and you should not forget it."
I too would fall in love with a man who bought me candy for my motion sickness.
Summer I turned pretty meets pride and prejudice so of course I loved it! THE LETTER HAD ME JUMPING UP & DOWN. The way this man was down BAD FOR HER OMG. Guys the banter was some of the best I’ve ever read. Heheheh
