When firefighter Rory lays eyes on fire-watcher Edith, he instantly knows she’s the one. His fated mate. Now, to win her heart, he just has to protect her
1. A raging wildfire (actually, she’s already got that covered, thanks)
2. The lightning-throwing invisible monster that started it (um, the what?)
3. Killer bunnies (don't even ask)
4. The appalling matchmaking attempts from his crew of misfit shifters (not only is this guy scorching hot, but his dog is adorable too. And...weirdly smart?)
5. His own animal need to claim her. Now. (If only she could look him in the eye....)
Good thing that, as a powerful griffin shifter, he can handle anything…right? There’s only one problem. The last thing this autistic woman wants - or needs - is to be protected....
Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.
More of a 3.5 stars in enjoyment but gave it a half stars because the main character was autistic. Quite the different paranormal romance with Griffin's and firefighters. Might probably continue with the series to see what Does Chant will do next.
A group of shifters who are also firefighters encounter a fire watcher who is autistic. Rory knows Edith is his mate. He’s hiding the fact he’s a griffin shifter. She’s autistic and is so glad to be part of a squad that she’s trying really hard to avoid her feelings for her new boss.
Edith was a sweetie, loved the fact that she was autistic. It was handled very well.
3.5 I appreciate the author writing a heroine who is on the Autism spectrum, but she is not truly Autistic. Aspergers, definitely. As the mom of an adult son with severe autism, there are just niggling little things that don't normally ring true for someone who has autism. But I did like the story and I'm downloading book two now.
Edith is in her fire watch tower watching for fires in the forest but when she witnesses a lightning strike out of nowhere and calls in the small fire, they don't believe her but send someone to check it out anyway.
Rory and his firefighter crew were called to check out a wild fire when he comes face to face with Edith and as soon as he meets her eyes, he knows she's his mate.
An invisible monster is lurking in the forest, ready to take over another animals bodies so it can watch the Hotshot team and try to find a way to possess one of them. All the while Rory is trying to get to know Edith a little better and find out why she's so skittish. But after finding out more about her, the team asks her to join their Hotshot team and fight fires with them and after a little persuading, she accepted the new position which was great since Rory wanted nothing more than to get to know her better before letting her know he was a shifter and she was his mate.
But because she didn't tell anyone she's autistic, there's plenty of miscommunication going on that leads to personal problems that could have been cleared up if they had just talked. But in the end things end up the way they are supposed to and we get to see yet another twist when they find another kind of shifter that I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of. This series has an overarching storyline and after reading this book (book 1), I plan on reading the rest in short order.
I enjoyed. I’d recommend reading the prequel series that features the couples/parents of these shifters. We move to America and the kids branching out fighting fires demons and finding their fated mates.
3.5 stars Well, first off: I have no idea if the representation was good because I have to admit I don't know enough about autism - so feel free to point out stuff if you know better. I devoured this within a day and while I directly started Wildfire Unicorn I still don't have all the names and animals straight... There was just too much and I was too tired. But I still really liked it, the thing hunting Rory was strange but it was well done. I think I'm gonna like the new crew and I really like the glimpses into the lives of the original Firefighter shifters. I'm especially looking forward to Fenrir's story.
I love shifter romance, especially when it involves mythical creatures. Add in that they are firefighters and what more can you ask for? The characters in this book are the children of the original characters of Fire & Rescue Shifters. The first generation was set in England, but this one is set in America. The first book is the story of Rory MacCormick and Edith Stone.
Rory is a griffin, a mythical creature shifter. He is also the head of a hotshot team, a team of experienced wild land firefighters. Edith Stone is a fire watcher. She wanted to be a firefighter, but her teammates weren't accepting of her differences. Edith has autism. It didn't impact her ability to do her job, but her co-workers bullied and disparaged her. Edith has isolated herself to her fire watchtower since then.
Rory and Edith meet and Rory recognizes her immediately as his mate. But how does he go about telling this woman that he is a magical griffin shifter and she is his fated mate? Rory invites Edith to be a member of his team. He hopes that by giving her a chance to get to know him it will make it easier for her to accept him. Woven through out the romance is the mystery of an evil creature that seems to be pursuing Edith.
Edith is scared to be herself. Scared that if her new team finds out she is autistic they will never accept her. So she tries hard to be "normal", not realizing that her whole team is unique. Edith eventually admits to Rory about her diagnosis and is shocked when he not only accepts her, but values her for who she is. Rory is going to admit his own secret, but before he can the evil that has been after Edith surfaces. Edith learns Rory's secret, and though shocked, is pleased that the man she is falling in love with is unique like her. Rory and Edith get their HEA as fated mates.
This book is a little different than your "typical" romance. The heroine isn't perfect. She is different and has suffered at the hands of other people because of those differences. Ms. Chant did an amazing job of describing Edith's struggles without it becoming the focal point of the story. She makes Edith easy to relate to, and the acceptance that Rory has for Edith is something most people hope to find in a relationship. Rory doesn't love Edith in spite of her difference, but because of them, as they are a part of who she is.
This is a very sweet romance with a little bit of a mystery. There is also humor and "laugh out loud" moments. This isn't insta-love, but it is a fated mate so there is some "insta" aspects to it. There are only a couple of very minor sex scenes that are more "fade to black" than descriptive. Overall, this was a cute read that I recommend. This can be read as a stand alone and you don't have to read the first generation to be able to appreciate this story.
This was my first Zoe Chant book and I’m a new fan!! I loved this story so much! The autism rep wirh Edith was so good and respectful and I loved Rory and his protective nature.
It’s a very interesting shifter story & yay autism rep!
First off, I felt that the representation of an autistic character in this book was very well done. I truly appreciated it. It wasn’t perfect, but it was respectful.
The story itself was very interesting. A team of shifting firefighters with some kind of supernatural lighting thing and a demonic bunny. It’s imaginative for sure. There’s more suspense then the blurb prepares you for, but the comedy in the beginning was lovely and I think the blurb was great for that. I personally feel like there was a lot going on so it was a little difficult to take it all in, but it’s definitely a strong set up for a story.
I’m very intrigued by how the other characters stories are going to play out. I’m all for unicorns so I’m definitely moving on to book two.
Please note - I am a spicy reader. This is not a very spicy book. It’s open door, but it’s one scene and it’s not particularly descriptive. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it, it’s just that if you’re looking for a smutty shifter romance this isn’t it. It’s more a paranormal romantic suspense shifter story with a comedic twist and a touch of smut. A mouth full, but an honest one.
Loved this book! I have a friend who’s child has autism and he does “flapping” he is a very smart and caring little boy. But others do judge I have heard “quite hands” more then I should. So it’s nice to see a strong character in a book that not only has it but shows how strong she is and also the battle of weather she should say something or deal with it on her own. But I really love how when she told him, he just handled it in stead of ”my mate has issues” or making her feel less. Instead he asks if what he is doing is alright and what she needs from him. To me that was amazing in many ways because not just for him but that is how others should be when some one opens up.
All her life, Edith has wanted to be a firefighter, but her autism makes her different, and she doesn't always get along well with people -- until she meets Rory, her fated true mate. Griffin-shifter Rory is unsure how to explain shifters and fated mates to a total stranger, so he invites her to be part of his crew, thinking he'll figure out the rest later. But the Thunder Mountain Hotshots have gotten in the middle of a supernatural war between the lightning-throwing Thunderbird and a demon.
This is the first Fire and Rescue Shifters: Wildfire Crew novel. I haven't read the series it's spun off from, and had no problem following the plot. I loved autistic Edith, and the way that Rory loves her and doesn't care that she's different. Plus, the other supporting characters are great and I can't wait to find out their stories -- especially hellhound Fenrir, whose comments are hilarious (he refers to Edith as "Stone Bitch" and sees that as a compliment). This a great start to a new series.
Great start to this next-gen spin-off series. Edith was top notch. Rory and Edith were very sweet together. Loved the crew banter. Can't wait to get all their stories!
Not the best I've read. I'm not sure I've ever read a Griffin-shifter before. I know for sure I've never read from an autistic persons perspective before so I'm not sure whether it was supposed to be like this or it was just the writing style. I am leaning towards the latter though. I'm gonna go out on a hunch and say the reason the h was so accepting of the existence of shifters was because of autism, not trying to be insensitive it's just that usually people who are different themselves have an easier time accepting the differences in other.
In other news this wasn't a remarkable read other than the fact that the band was formed of not the average shifters, I mean these guys are, Griffins and Unicorns, Pegasuses and Hell-Hounds so not your average ordinary werewolves and cat shifters :p
I just hope I can make this count in my reading challenge so it isn't an entire waste of my time.
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I buy all of Zoe Chant’s books because I love her HEAs and her style of writing! Of course, I bought this one too!
The cover is beautiful in more ways than one!
Okay the Fire & Rescue Shifters was one of my most favorite series, so this spin-off is already a hit for me. I love that the kids have their own series! This series is also for adults only due to the steamy content.
Alpha Rory finds his mate at a fire, and she is a fire watcher. They both have secrets that they think will cause the other problems. There is so much going on in this book, but I don’t want to ruin anything. Her autism makes her look at things uniquely. She gets along with the team with some of the situations that occur with her interpretations are funny. This book had everything to make me love it: drama, romance, mystery, danger, and a happy surprise at the end that makes me excited for the next book. I can’t wait!!
I highly recommend to anyone who loved the original series or if you have loved any of Zoe’s work previously or to mythic shifters lovers because there is something for everyone!
Wildfire Griffin Series: Fire & Rescue Shifters: Wildfire #1 Release Date: #AlreadyReleased Author:Zoe Chant Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Serial: Standalone, No Cliffhanger #Pegasus#Unicorvn#Hellhound#SeaDragon #AllShifters #5Stars🌟⭐🌟🌟🌟 •••••••••••••• 💢Every year Ms. Zoe's books that she writes are all an enjoyable reads, this one is no exception. This book had me on the edge of my seat from the first page, to the last . Definitely a Must Read!
🔷️Edith Stone is a Human Firefighter at least she tries to be, you see she has Autism, she likes being alone it is better being up in the Montana Mountains - Tower Thirteen watching for fires. This new fire is not only close but weird. Edith knows what she has to do.. Air... Fuel... Heat.. Create a line.... Then a killer Bunny attacked her and the very sexy firefighter creates a diversion saving her..
🔷️Rory MacCormick is Half Lion/Half Eagle which is a Griffin. He's is Alpha of the A-Team aof the THUNDER MOUNTAIN HOTSHOTS, his whole team are shifters. Right now Rory cant quit smiling and acting like a dufuss, he just met his mate. Know he has to find a lightning-throwing invisible monster.
This started a little slow but it worked it out. The information almost bogged it but made other parts that came up go smoother. We don't get much world building in the shifters- life spans vs humans, abilities outside the obvious, or if there's any difference between regular shifters vs mythological. All of that is left unanswered. Characters don't really develop, they aren't stagnant but they don't evolve. They mesh together as a working team but they don't really bond and grow. The plot is vague. They want to stop the bad creature, aren't sure what the other one is, and are dedicated to stopping and ppl putting out fires. Beyond that, your guess is as good as mine. They don't do any research on what they learn the one is. They don't even bother to learn what the other was. Are there historians in their society? Who knows. The characters didn't develop but they aren't 2 dimensional, either. They're interesting enough that even without learning much of anything I'm curious to see whether the next book fills in gaps. If it doesn't, I'll probably abandon ship but at least interesting characters carried the weight of the story.
I really liked that the heroine is autistic and I enjoyed her inner monologues a lot. Edith has had to deal with a lot of hurtful interactions with people and her feelings about them seemed very authentic.
Edith is a fire watcher somewhere in California. One day out of a clear blue sky lightening sets a fire near her tower. She is a qualified firefighter and knows exactly what to do. First, she calls her boss to report the fire and after he blows her off (insultingly), she digs an effective fire line herself. A hotshot crew is nearby and they come to help put it out. The team is made up of mythic shifters (a dumb name imo) and they realize that something or someone is making the fires and they have to find out why. Edith turns out to be the mate of Rory, a griffin shifter and the team leader. She impressed them with her fire fighting abilities and they offer her a job on her team, which she accepts.
The writing and world building was very good and I liked the action.
Apparently, betrayal on the most basic level makes me cry. I love the heroine and want her to feel safe. There’s a part in here where her new friends turn against her because of a misunderstanding. It infuriated me on behalf of the heroine because it broke her heart for no good reason. She doesn’t even twitch later and there is no real apology from the friends to the heroine. The only thing that saved this book for me was that the hero almost rips his friends in pieces because he did not misunderstand. And he’s furious. I just wish this book didn’t glance past this so quickly. It’s a pretty big deal for the heroine to truly feel and be safe.
The love story is pretty good. Even though it’s fated mates, there is still an expectation that the hero has to win her.
The heroine grows in her ability to relax and be herself. I just wish she had more time in the book where we could see her be herself.
Wildfire Griffin is a ridiculous name but it piqued my interest. This is a series I can see myself picking up in between other reads. Rory and Edith were both keeping things from each other, providing a bit of tension and angst but overall this was light. There are a ton of really cool shifters in here. Griffins, unicorns, hellhounds. Not just your typical wolves or bears. Looks like each pack member with be getting their own book and I’m particularly looking forward to Fenrir’s story.
A part of me wishes this was longer. I would have liked to see the pack in their shifted forms more. More firefighting. Edith was the most interesting character and we don’t really know a lot about her drive to become a firefighter. The other part of me knows that a lot of my enjoyment came from this being a quick easy read. So I am just going to appreciate it for what it was.
Fire watcher Edith sees lightning strikes coming out of a clear sky and causing a wildfire but when she calls it in she's told not to waste time. Eventually a hot shot crew does come and the leader of that crew is Rory, a griffin shifter. When Rory sees Edith, he knows that she's his fated mate so now he just has to win her over. He adds her to his team of shifters and goes up to Stone Mountain where the camp is. Now they just have to fight a lightning throwing invisible monster and deal with animals who have something strange going on as well as the matchmaking attempts of his shifter team. Edith also has to learn to trust and share her secret telling them that she's autistic.
This was a wonderful read. I enjoyed it immensely and look forward to the next book in the series.
This book was recommended to me through a book group on Facebook. I looked it up and decided it couldn’t possibly read it, based on the cover. But then I read the first page, just to see . . . and now it’s four hours later and I’m writing this review.
So. Turns out I loved the book.
Is it Great Literature? No. Is it trashy smut? Also no. It’s cute and clever, witty, with fun characters and well-written dialog and a storyline. It’s predictable but in a completely enjoyable way. A perfect book for the beach or for a cozy, quiet afternoon.
I was on a Sci Fi binge now I am on a Paranormal shifter binge and that is how I came across Zoe's books. Once I find an author whose books I like I will read them all and let me tell you Zoe has a lot. They are quick and easy reads. Some serious some make me laugh but all have danger and fated mates. I enjoy paranormal stories as they take you away from everyday life and anything goes.
I loved this book. Not gonna lie it was awesome to read a paranormal romance with things like griffins, unicorns and pegasus rather than bears, wolves, and dragons (seems like the only animals' paranormal romance writers know about). Also firefighters, not just the dude but the girl. Because believe it or not females can be firefighters! The girl wasn't tiny, thin and in need of constant protection. She kicked some firefighter ass. I mean she totally rocked it. I also loved the creature causing issues was not another run of the mill shifter (again like all other PR books). I loved that one of the characters was autistic and that it showed how hard that can be and what trying to fit in with everyone else is like for someone different. I was super glad Edith finds a family that understands her in the end. And that the romance is bumpy! No romance is perfect and trying to sell that is insane. Every relationship has issues and overcoming them is half the battle. Proof you are meant to be. This highlighted that. Loved Rory too. He was hot and a kick-ass alpha but he sucked at reading signals and it made him so much more likable and realistic! I look forward to future books in this series!
First time reading this author. Was trying to find a new series and checked out a few reviews on this. With all the 5 star reviews, figured it was worth reading the first one. This didn't disappoint! Was captured from the start. Don't normally do this but sat down and read it in one day. I am ready to start the next one in the series. Only waiting for time when I can read and not be interrupted if it is anything like this one. Thank you Zoe Chang for writing such a great story!
