A mob boss with a nefarious retirement plan. A husband preparing the ideal breakfast for his wife. A young girl intent on visiting the neighbor’s turkeys—on her own. A mystery author who steals an idea for a novel and now, years later, faces the consequences. An essayist musing on a letter she would write to a friend she inadvertently upset. Writing a Wrong is filled all of these and more. The stories, essays, and poems that fill this volume wrestle with various ways to think about life’s unfairness and pain and whether those “slings and arrows” can or should be made “right.” All of the talented authors in this book are members of the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group.
An eclectic gathering of essays, poems, and short stories about events that went wrong, could have gone wrong, or people who made something right that once went wrong (hence the theme). Genres ranged from paranormal mysteries to crime dramas, from family problems to the fragile state of our world, and everything in between.
Anthologies can be tricky as some of the inclusions don't appeal to everyone. I found this one enjoyable.
My favorite piece was a mystery written by Michele Connelly. The plot was well thought out and intriguing. The characters well rounded. I look forward to reading more of her work.
Kudos to all the authors curated for this anthology.
The best part of this anthology is the diversity. A taste of nonfiction, some fiction, and some poetry. It’s a great sampling of the wide range you can find within a writing group.
