Is he a real hero, or just a pretender? The tall dark and deadly looking mercenary Delilah Burke confronts at the robbery scene is sexy as sin, and apparently “saved the day”, but is anything about him real? Ex-Navy officer Luc Larue knows how it looks when the sexy cop and her partner respond to a silent alarm at the grocery where he stopped for a six-pack after work. Luc’s job with KPI requires certain…attire, and equipment. Once she finds out what he does for a living, and that he’s not a real hero, she probably won’t agree to see him again, much less hear his proposition. Each day reveals more to Del of the enigma that is Luc Larue. The guy is golden, perhaps too good to be true. Then, trouble arrives from out of his past and Del is faced with a choice – does she believe the evidence against Luc, or trust her heart?
“I loved Luc from the first page… Livia Quinn’s contemporaries remind me of Jill Shalvis and Robyn Carr, stories with heart and heat.” Hard Days Knight
“I could read this writer’s beautiful writing all day!” Storm Crazy
“Flowing with passion…wow, what a great read.” “A hot read…what more could a reader want?” Undone
DC native, Livia Quinn moved to Louisiana where the weather and culture inspired her settings and her jobs as a mail carrier, plant manager, business owner and professional singer provided fodder for her characters. She finished her first novel the summer of Katrina. That was followed by many more hurricanes. Is it any wonder her Destiny heroine, Tempest, controls the weather. After the loss of her husband she moved to Virginia where she now enjoys the ancient beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains
Loved the way the author had the alpha hero working with underprivileged kids. She made the tough guy soft in all the right spots. The kick-ass heroine was also impressed. And the psycho villain was real enough to give me the creeps. Another keeper from this author!
I would have LOVE to given this a 4 star, because I enjoyed the story and the 2 characters, however I can't stand when an author half writes stuff. One second he is kissing her, and his pants come off, the next they are doing it. How about finish the taking off the clothes. There was more of that in different scenes, and I thought it was just me, or just one time, but it was several different times, where one thing was happening and then we jumped to something else. :(
Retired Navy Officer Luc Larue is hero all the way but hard-nosed cop Delilah Burke isn’t convinced when she shows up at a robbery scene. Sure, he’s sexy in his fatigues but she can’t have a mercenary running around working her beat. But there’s more to Luc than big muscles and his “day” job as a cover model.
Luc knows the instant their eyes meet, he wants to have Del in his life. She’s beautiful, intelligent and keeps him on his toes. The more he’s around her, the more he falls for her. But when strange things start happening to him and the evidence points to a stalker, will Del believe him or is he only imagining it? Boy, it’s a Hard Days Knight for Luc Larue.
I loved this book for so many reasons: two strong characters who are independent yet when they fall in love heat up the pages, a baddie who’s not your ordinary stalker, behind-the-scenes peek into the world of cover models, spotlight on military life, a full support of secondary characters (especially the Larue clan), suspense, romance and making amends.
While both Del and Luc are highly-developed characters, what made this one of my favorite books of the year was the twist on the whole stalker part of the story. Women are usually the victims of stalkers and Livia Quinn takes it in a different direction. Livia built the tension and suspense beautifully, not to mention the feeling of control and vulnerability on the part of Luc. Brilliant!
Livia Quinn is a strong supporter of the military and military families. My hat goes off to her for her dedication and donating proceeds of her book sales in November.
If you love Romantic Suspense like me, this whole series is a must-read! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Favorite Character: Luc. I read this while recovering from dental surgery and every scene he was in, from the cover shoots to helping the kids, made me smile and swoon just a bit. He’s a military hero with a loving family, a heart of gold and sexy to boot. When he realizes he has a stalker, his reaction is realistic and honest. He’s every woman’s dream and every man’s best friend. The perfect hero in this book and I hope Livia writes more about him.
Favorite Quote: He smiled, watching her thoughts move across her features as that scene presented itself. “Officer, you’ve got a dirty mind.”
She wasn’t usually so readable. She scowled at him. “Larue, I don’t have all day.”
Delilah is a hardened cop. Very skeptical and suspicious. Luc is your sweet well adjusted soldier, no skeletons in his closet. While I didn't dislike this book I didn't care for the insta-love. Not sure if it's because of the characters or what but Del's need for something to be wrong with Luc made it hard to believe.
Sickeningly sweet, but with an uncommonly good story progression. I liked the role reversal and thought the character interaction was quite good. I also appreciated, that though it uses some clichés it's not caught up in them. I imagine the book would be really good for bringing along on a vacation or some other time when you just want to veg out with a nice book.
I downloaded Hard Days Knight as a free novel from Amazon. This was a slow read for me. There were no particular low or high points in the read, it was fairly uneventful. Nothing bad to say about the book, but I wasn't drawn into the characters or the narrative.
