Harlow I’m the last witch of my bloodline. Since the night my parents were killed, my magick ceases to function, shadows torment me, and a stranger’s voice in my head is driving me to lose what little will to survive I’m clinging to. I’m about ready to hand myself over to the vampires who stalk me when one appears in my bedroom—one who sounds identical to the voice in my head.
Alec After centuries of hunting Sinclairs, I have the final one. With the cure for vampirism in her veins, her ending will be more drawn-out than her ancestors’. A final punishment towards the family who stole mine from me. The magickless witch should be easy prey, but her weakness is the leverage she needs to prolong her pathetic life. What began as revenge has become my downfall. Now, I can’t let her go.
Dark Flame is an enemies to lovers, fated mates paranormal romance between a witch and a morally grey vampire. This book was previously published as Cure Bound, and has since undergone major edits that alter the plot and characters, and expand the world and lore.

By day, she masks as a therapist, and is still waiting for her Hogwarts letter so she can be sorted into her Ravenclaw house.

Now, let’s not judge a book by its cover, because clearly the guy looks 17 and bored too death (which for a vampire makes sense I guess)… But the book is so much more!!
When it comes to PNR I am more an Alien girl… not really into vampire ( I guess Twilight story was enough for a lifetime) but as I love and trust this author I gave it a go, and I devoured this story!!! This author is so good at pulling me into her world, waving page-turning stories, with complex and likeable characters.
Alec is a man obsessed!! First with his vengeance then with his mate, and don’t we love an obsessed man? Better if he is a vampire 🩸 Harlow was a likeable, strong MFC, torn between two worlds (the witch one and the vampire one) The story was long enough for characters to develop their arc and feelings as they started as enemies-to-lovers (like real, no insta lust here guys!!)
I can’t wait for the other stories to unravel.
So yes, just wish for the author would change the cover so I can add this book to my collection because it was that good and deserve a place on my shelf 😉.
Harlow Sinclair, the last remaining witch in her bloodline, and whose blood is the cure for vampirism, is taken by Vampire King Alec who has eliminated every other member of her family.
Do you know what kind of grudge you have to hold in order to take revenge on an ENTIRE bloodline?! 😳CENTURIES. He’s been taking them out for centuries 😬.
Alec’s inner dialogue is so funny and is definitely what sucked me in. He’s an a-hole but a funny a-hole which goes a long way in my book... hmm I’ll have to unpack that later 😅
Poor Harlow couldn’t catch a break. Between getting kidnapped, uncovering secrets, coping with her blood being the cure for vampirism, and of course dealing with a broody vampire king her plate was full.
Freya, the first witch, was definitely my favorite! Her banter with Alec was hilarious. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of her narration at first but during the second intermission I quickly fell in love with this unique twist
If you love books where the villain gets the girl then check out Dark Flame
While I didn’t love it, I did like it and it kept me interested the whole way through. I enjoyed the world building and the plot line.
I didn’t like Alec for the first 40-50% of this book. I get as a vampire he doesn’t have feeling or emotions but damn I wanted something from him. He would do something somewhat nice and then ruin it by being an asshole. He definitely made up for it though. He became someone that I liked for our FMC. I loved how protective and possessive he became over her!! Though it did bug me that even though he loved her he never said the actual words to her.
I did like Harlow. She didn’t take shit from him and I appreciated that. She did have a little BBS going on that bugged me though. I wasn’t super happy about their first time having sex because I didn’t feel like Alec earned that at all. I wish it would have happened after he was a little less of an asshole.
I’m so confused as to why Alec never told Harlow about Freya though. You have this witch popping up and telling you things about you and your future mate and you don’t say anything to Harlow about it? Even after you guys are mated. It didn’t make any sense to me. But Freya was actually my favorite character even though we only see her a little bit. I would love to have her as a FMC in a story!
I’m very intrigued by the rest of the series. Especially the next one. A witch and a wolf!! Should be interesting.
NO CHEATING NO OP DRAMA (Alec just gets very possessive) NO THIRD ACT BREAK UP AGE GAP (he’s like hundreds of years old and she’s 24) NO VIRGINS (much to Alec’s dismay) KIDNAPPING MURDER HEA ISH (they are mates and living together) THE PLOT IS LEFT OPEN A LITTLE FOR THE NEXT BOOK
First 30% I was more annoyed and hated Alec more than Harlow did…and she was the one kidnapped and enslaved for her blood and crimes she didn’t commit… I couldn’t find any hotness or charm in Alec to redeem his actions towards Harlow.
Once he started seeing that she was not who he thought, and way more than just a means to an end, I could find some sympathy towards him. More than that, I started to fall for him, even if his mind wasn't totally made up on the idea of Harlow and him being together. But the moment he started to put her first, to listen and not make snarky, mean comments anymore, but instead started to focus on her emotions, on how to win her trust after all the past between them.
And Harlow? I loved her. Sure, she found her kidnapper hot, but honestly, it was the same. She didn't let it blind her, though. She fought, even powerless, she was cunning, and even if the shadows were haunting her, she pushed through her grief and fear and wanted to escape...badass.
And those plot twists? Didn't see them coming at all, but I loved the vibes, the developments, and the change and growth from the characters. And this plot, even if they are interconnected standalone, they are HEAVILY connected, which I love. I can't wait to keep reading more about the couples, the world, and Freya (pls let her find love too)
Also…Carina and a wolf?? FUCK YES! Dark Mist can’t come soon enough!!
Quotes: She smells like my own personal meal, all for me and me alone, which is an alarming thought.
If someone out there wishes to harm her, they'll have a bitch of a time getting to her. I've found her, claimed her, and she'll be protected from anyone else.
A word slices through me, clearer than anything else, awakening instincts I've never before felt. Bride.
"If your blood is divinity, then your pussy will be fucking nirvana."
"You're doing so good, Harlow. You feel amazing. Can you come again, my beautiful witch? All for me. All fucking mine."
"Because I'll murder them all if it doesn't." She snorts as I take her hand to lead her from her old room, and then the house, except I wasn't kidding.
"He's only interested in eating one of us." And I'm fucking ravenous, and not only for your blood.
Miss Sinclair, while I've been obsessed with you since the moment we met, obsessions, even for immortals, can be fleeting once satisfied. With you...I'll never be satisfied. There is nothing that'll ever fulfill this need inside me. Obsessions end, but you'll never be my ending.
Fuck fate, Hellion. No matter what, I would have found you and made you mine. My powerful witch, my Bride... all mine.
A darkly seductive tale of fate, fire, and enemies who can’t stay away.
Harlow, the last witch of her bloodline, has lost her magick and her will to survive ever since her parents were murdered, haunted by shadows and a stranger’s voice in her mind. When a vampire—whose voice matches the one tormenting her—appears in her room, she learns she’s being hunted for the cure to vampirism in her veins. Alec, driven by centuries-old vengeance against her family, plans to make her suffer. But as he closes in on his prey, what began as revenge slowly twists into obsession, and letting her go may no longer be an option.
This ignites from page one with a gripping dual POV structure that pulls readers into the turbulent worlds of Alec and Harlow. The choice to alternate perspectives - not only when they’re together but also apart - deepens the emotional intensity and offers a layered view of both character arcs.
Alec is everything a dark romance lover could crave: brooding, brutal, and utterly magnetic. As a powerful immortal with a storied past as the Sinclair witches’ greatest villain, Alec exudes menace - but beneath his cold exterior lies a primal hunger that refuses to be tamed. His inner turmoil, coupled with his fierce dominance and that wicked little nickname for Harlow, makes him impossible to ignore. You’ll be torn between hating him and hoping he never stops chasing.
Harlow, on the other hand, is a heroine worth rooting for. Her grief is palpable, but she never lets it smother her spark. Her razor-sharp banter with Alec fuels their enemies-to-lovers tension, keeping the pace taut and the chemistry electric. As she unearths long-buried secrets and faces danger around every corner, the mystery element of the plot thickens, adding satisfying layers of suspense and discovery.
One of the most surprising and delightful elements is the occasional narrative intrusion from Freya, whose quirky, fourth wall-breaking commentary is hilarious. It offers a refreshing breather from the darker themes and makes the story feel self-aware without ever undermining the stakes.
The worldbuilding is rich and intricate, clearly setting the foundation for a broader, multi-book series. With references to Hecate’s prophecy and the brewing conflict in the supernatural world, this is more than just a romance - it’s the first spark of something epic. If you're a fan of morally gray characters, sizzling tension, and fantasy realms with teeth, Dark Flame is a must-read.
“she screamed and something inside me wouldn’t be stopped until she no longer had anything to fear.”
ohhh this was so good! it’s been a while since i’ve read something with vampires and witches, and this book did not disappoint. alongside the romance, there was a big fat mystery going on, one that i half cracked at a certain point. the twists and turns were everything, and literally had me on the edge of my seat. that chase scene? the one where alec finds out a very big piece of information? yeah, it’s playing on repeat in my head. i absolutely loved how powerful harlow was, even though she didn’t know just how powerful. there are still a few characters i don’t trust, but i’m so pumped for book two! hopefully we’ll get a bit more insight on said characters.
thank you to the author and torch lit ink for the e-arc! 🧡

Dark Flame is a gripping, seductive blend of enemies-to-lovers and fated mates, weaving a dark, tantalizing tale of vengeance, magic, and unexpected love. M.L. Philpitt masterfully balances tension and passion, making this paranormal romance an absolute must-read.
Alec, a centuries-old vampire king driven by vengeance, finally captures Harlow, the last witch of the Sinclair bloodline. What starts as a quest for retribution soon twists into something far more dangerous when Alec discovers that Harlow is more than just a cure for his curse—she’s his fated mate. Harlow, burdened by a tragic past and haunted by shadows, must grapple with the revelation that her entire life has been a lie. Their intense chemistry crackles on every page, and the push-and-pull dynamic between Alec’s dark intentions and his growing desire for Harlow makes for an intoxicating read.
Philpitt’s dual POV storytelling breathes life into both protagonists, revealing their vulnerabilities and inner conflicts. The vivid world-building, complete with coven secrets, ancient curses, and a brewing war, elevates this story from mere romance to an epic paranormal journey. The scorching, open-door scenes are perfectly balanced with emotional depth, making Alec and Harlow’s love story both captivating and heart-wrenching.
Fans of morally grey vampires, resilient witches, and plot twists that leave you breathless will devour "Dark Flame." This revamped edition not only expands on the original plot but deepens the lore and character arcs, proving that love—and fate—can flourish even in the darkest of flames.
I haven’t read a Romantasy that checked all the boxes for me in a LONG time and this did it. I’m so excited this is going to be a series. ML Philpitt is a genius. She created a riveting story between a witch and a vampire, added spice and humor, intrigue, and was still able to wrap up Alec and Harlow’s story beautifully while leaving me wanting to read the next book immediately!
Harlow lost her magic during a traumatic event. Alec is dead set on old revenge against Harlow’s family. We take MANY twists and turns and find a lot of truths that neither of our MCs were aware of. We have a sassy narrator (Freya - the first witch) whose commentary is perfection.
100% - you need to read this book.
Some of my favorites quotes”
“You came,” I breathe. “You called.”
“Hellion, I will drown in everything wicked, immoral, and Dark if it means you get to rise up and break free from the shadows. I’ll remain the villain if you get to be the hero. Never doubt that.”
“You were the unexpected in my life. My lungs inhale air only so I can your scent inside me. I blink so each time my eyes open, I’ll see you all over. And if my heart could beat, it would beat to the rhythm your used to. Now it beats to you. Only you. All of you.”
I'm a sucker for a good vampire romance! 😍 Throw in witches, magic, spice, and some drama.. what's a combination!
Tropes & Themes: • Witches & Vampires • Enemies To Lovers • Wicca Vibes • Fated Mates • Hate To Love • " You Came"/"You Called" • Morally Grey MMC • Villain Gets The Girl • He Falls First
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was fun and hooked me straight away. It had some of my favourite tropes and just enough spice 🔥
I loved Harlow & Alec and was rooting for them from early on.
I didn't see the twist coming at all, and it really added to the story. I really enjoyed the story and whole concept. The side characters were good, too!
I highly recommend this for any romantasy fans! I can't wait for the next one! ❤️
**Thank you to the Author and Torch Lit Ink for the ARC; all opinions are my own.**
3.5 ⭐️ 2.5 🌶
I am somewhat conflicted. There were parts of this story that I really liked, and then there were some parts that feel like they lacked. I really did not enjoy the Intermission first person chapters, it threw me out of the story and felt jarring.
NOW. I liked the world set-up for this paranormal dark romance. I liked the witches and vampires. If you're looking for something that is easy enough to read, with magic and spice, this is a good one, but it won't be for everyone.

*I was given this book as an eArc but my review is based solely on my own thoughts and opinions*
Some might not like it, but I love the addition of the narrator, kind of feels like rocky horror. It lightens up everything since it is a darker read. I usually don’t gravitate towards stalker or captive romances but I love a good mate and vampire book so I thought, why not give it a try and I’m glad I did. I very much enjoyed this book. I love how one instinct for him is to be bad but with her, he has a new instinct and he’s slowly progressing and growing to be more than just a vampire, I love seeing that transpire.
"It won't destroy you because I will conquer every level of Hell, Heaven, and whatever Otherworld there is before losing you. Death would never dare touch what I've claimed. Death is not possible because the sorry soul who tries to steal you will have me to deal with."
This book is a solid 4.5 ⭐️ Immediately you get pulled into the magical system thats super easy to follow. Knowing that Alec started off watching Harlow in her most devastation phase after her parents died I just knew something else was going to hit. Both Harlow and Alec fought their attraction HARD. I mean of course a very classic enemies to lovers had to play out with their banter and tension rising and rising until Harlow had Alec like putty in her hand. The possessiveness and need to protect Harlow was everything! He still allowed her to become who she needed to be all while being her support behind the curtain. Just amazing love story, connection, and risk it all moments. Knowing this book will at least be a 4 book series, has me marking my calendar for book two to read all about the next power couple to come.
I received an ARC of Dark Flame for an honest review.

Alec & Harlow’s story is so captivating. Once you get past the world building and everyone’s history, the whole journey just sucks you in!
There are so many twists and turns! So many emotions and trials that both Harlow & Alec must go through that pulls on your heartstrings. Their indescribable magnetic pull they have for each other, the mystery around Harlow’s upbringing and her powers, Alec’s own development into moving past obsession and owning his new reawakened feelings really draws you in.
Be warned, this is a super slow burn! But once we get there, it is all worth it! The chase, the kiss, the realisation. Both their worlds were tipped on its axis and they are both stronger for it. I loved how Alec was so protective of Harlow even from the beginning, how they truly became soulmates and their ride or die’s.
I loved how Freya breaks the fourth wall to provide insight and further understanding in each intermission. Her sassy attitude just adds to her appeal.
Dark Flame is book one in the Black Magick series. I can’t wait for book two!
I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy this book at first, but then everything started happening and I got sucked in. I needed to finish and see what was going to happen.
Harlow is the last witch in her bloodline. Ever since the night her parents died her magic seems to have vanished and she doesn’t have the powers anymore. She feels so much guilt for the death of her family. She is very headstrong and sassy too. She had me cracking up.
Alec is a vampire and he is out to destroy the Sinclair witches. There is just one left, Harlow. He decides to kidnap her and sell her blood to vampire so they can turn back mortal. But when that goes wrong, what will he end up doing to her?
The banter between Harlow and Alec was great. He was very possessive and bossy and she was sassy and determined to get away. But when he starts to get soft at the suffering of her cries, things start to change. And then Harlow decides to escape and he hunts her down. When Harlow returns back to her Coven, holy moly twists and turns. I did NOT see them coming and they were HUGE.
Alec had met his Bride, but Harlow was not convinced. The two went from complete enemies to hot and intense lovers.
Dark Flame by M.L. Phil Pitt gets infinite stars! I am OBSESSED!! Was Damon Salvatore your favorite brother in the vampire diaries? Well this is your book! Alec is a man on a mission of revenge and Harlow the witch, is the girl he needs to complete that revenge. Little does he know fate has other plans in store! I will give you no other information because you HAVE to read this book! My jaw was on the floor, my heart was racing, I couldn’t stop reading! There is drama, there is TRUE enemies to lovers, there is angst so bad! There is touch her and die, banter that will make you laugh out loud, basically there’s everything!! I lost sleep because I needed to finish this book, and i regret nothing because holy hell. My only negative review is I needed more and I didn’t want to say goodbye. Alec is 100% on my top book boyfriend list for sure because he is spicy, mean & gentle, witty, and possessive! Harlow is also a bad b*tch so they make the ultimate couple! Also, the spice in this book had me sweating. Enough said! I’m here for the rest of the series !!!! ☺️☺️
So I didn’t know what to expect going into this book because it was a very different genre for me, but I really enjoyed it! Harlow Sinclair is our FMC who is from a powerful witch blood line. Harlow’s blood is the cure for vampirism and Alec Dormer (MMC), the vampire king has one goal in his immortal life… revenge against the Sinclair witches! The dual POV between the main characters was done nicely and I loved the brief intermissions by the First Witch; they added a bit of comic relief for the story. There were a few twists throughout the book and I didn’t see one of them coming which added to the suspense of the book. There was the perfect amount of spice mixed with a great storyline that left me turning pages to see what was going to happen. Overall not only do I loved stories where the villain gets the girl, but we love a possessive obsessed vampire! The whole storyline/plot that is developing for the series is very intriguing and I will be anxiously awaiting the next books! Thank you to the author and Torchlit Ink for and ARC of this book!
I ate this UP🔥 I’m a sucker (get it) for vampire x witch romances, and this ticked all of the boxes for me. We have a broody, hell bent on a generations in the making revenge vampire king, Alec, and a witch, Harlow, with special black magick blood, the last of her family line who has lost memories and some big time trauma surrounding it! I also 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘥 Freya’s (the First Witch) narration! It was so unique and something I haven’t read in a book since high school.
There isn’t much world building, but it isn’t needed. There are times where the vampire/witches worlds are explained in an organic way. I feel like we’ll get more about the world and different covens as the series progresses, which I cannot wait for!
I really cannot wait for the next book🥹 I loved Alec, Harlow and how their story was told. They’re both my kind of funny and their love is one that will transcend time. They both grow so much together and on their own. This became one of my “read it because I said so” books so quickly😩 There were plenty of shocks and action to even out the romance on top of the way their bond was portrayed. I can’t say much more without spoiling some things, so go read it!🫶🏻
Thank you so much to the author and Torch Lit Ink for the gifted copy!
Dark flame is a romance between a witch who holds the cure for vampirism in her veins and the king of the vampires. Harlow is the last of her line of witches. Her parents are dead after a terrible accident and the grief has blocked her magic. She is ready to give up and let the vampires who are hunting her have their fill, until Alec comes along. He wants to take advantage of the cure in her veins and keep her all to himself. Fate has plans for these two and they are the first of four couples that will change the course of history for all paranormal beings. Alec and Harlow have an unconventional romance and it takes a lot of convincing for them to realize fighting fate is futile. Their story is sweet, violent, sexy and full of grief and healing. I enjoyed their story and especially the surprising narrative of the high witch Freya. She adds a little spice and comic relief throughout the book, and it is very entertaining. Get ready for

Dark Flame is a dark paranormal romance between a witch and a vampire. It is one of the best paranormal romances I've read this year! I love this book! It was better than I anticipated! The FMC, Harlow, is a fiery, feisty, redheaded witch who is trying to discover herself and her purpose. The MMC, Alec, is a centuries old, morally grey, vampire king. The banter between these two is funny and tense at the same time. The MMC has obsessive, possessive, touch her and die vibes. The story did have a little bit of a slow start, once you get past the first twenty chapters or so, it gets interesting. That's when I started to get hooked and couldn't stop reading until I finished it! This book has a shocking plot twist! I really enjoyed this story! If you love stories about witches and if you love stories about vampires, then this is the book for you! It combines both into a very intriguing story! I can't wait for the next book! Thank you to ML Philpitt and Torch Lit Ink for including me as an ARC reader!!
Harlow is the last witch of her bloodline and dealing with the grief of losing her parents as well as her magic. She has become haunted by shadows and rarely leaves the house because her blood is a cure for vampirism. A vampire happens to appear in her bedroom one night and his voice happens to match the one speaking to her in her head. Driven by revenge for his sister’s death, he takes Harlow to use her for her cure and make her suffer. But fate had other plans in mind. Alec finds himself drawn to Harlow, obsessing over her in ways he has never experienced before. They both express hate towards one another but when Harlow tries to run, Alec gives chase. The emotions and tension between the two of them boil up to the extreme. Once Alec truly discovers what Harlow means to him, he becomes her ultra broody protector and stalker. The story has amazing world building and a few narrated scenes from an observer.
✨️Mini Book Review - no spoilers✨️ Spice: 🌶🌶🌶.5 (3.5/5) Genre: Dark Fantasy | Romance | Paranormal
WOW—just fricking wow. I am officially obsessed!
If you love dark fantasy and vampire romance, Dark Flame needs to be your next read.
It’s deliciously dark, decadent, and seriously seductive—basically everything I crave in a book. I consumed it like my life depended on it!
I'm in love with the unique intro and the clever intermissions throughout—such a refreshing twist on storytelling.
Told in dual 1st person POV: Meet FMC Harlow, our cursed and grieving witch who lost her magick after her parents’ deaths. And Alec, the brooding vampire king on a vengeful path to destroy every cursed member of her bloodline... yeah, it gets intense.
Vampire Diary fans — we have some real Damon Salvatore vibes going on! Enough said.
I’ll keep spoilers to a minimum (you will not regret going in blind), but let's tantalise you with a few tropes / highlights:
✨ Witches & Vampires ✨ Centuries-old revenge ✨ Enemies to lovers (for real) ✨ Fated mates ✨ Morally grey MMC ✨ “Who did this to you?” (aka touch her and lose your head—literally) ✨ Explosive self-discovery ✨️ Magick & forbidden dark magick ✨ Betrayals ✨️ SPICE - Grab some milk because the spice will burn you down!
Fair warning: check the trigger warnings—but if you’re into dark, steamy, high-stakes romance, this one will haunt your TBR in the best way.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Dark Flame by M.L. Philpitt Release Date: May 13, 2025
Y’all, I am absolutely down BAD for the vampire MMC. Like… unhealthily obsessed 🥵🦇 He is primal, broody, morally grey, and totally unhinged in the most delicious way.
This was such a fun read, and I loved the writing style. Freya, had me laughing out loud multiple times—she’s pure chaotic energy.
The banter between the main characters? Top tier. Their chemistry sizzles, and the “you came” / “you called” trope?? It was TOO good 😮💨 I was kicking my feet.
And that ending?! 😦 Plot twists galore—I did not see it coming, and now I’m desperate for Book 2. The way this world is opening up? I’m hooked.

We love a good interconnected stand-alone! I needed a book that I could read and mostly have a resolution too and this one was just what I needed!
So despite the cover looking like a sims character 😂 this book was pretty enjoyable. There was not a lot of heavy world building, we jumped right into the plot, and we had duel POV’s. I also really liked the narrator that had little intermission chapters every so often and explained everything at the beginning so we know what to expect with the series. I think she also gave us some comedic relief throughout the book.
As for the characters I did enjoy them. I do think it did feel a little Stockholm syndromey and I feel like our MMC did a complete 180 with how her felt about the FMC once the mating bond went into place, which just made it feel like his feelings for her weren’t 100% genuine. But I did enjoy their banter and the spicy scenes were done well.
I do think the pacing was done well for a stand-alone too, but I do still feel like I have some unanswered questions after finishing. I’m interested to see how these standalones connect and what the ending will look like!
This book offered an engaging start to the series, especially with the clever inclusion of Freya as a partial narrator; her first chapter effectively set the stage, and her occasional appearances added humor to otherwise tense moments. Alec and Harlow’s dynamic was thoroughly entertaining; their banter kept things lively, and Harlow’s constant pushback made her a standout, strong female main character. I particularly appreciated Harlow’s more authentic reaction to the bond, which contrasted with Alec’s approach. While the world-building was somewhat minimal, it felt like a foundation that could develop further in future installments. One of the two major plot twists was predictable, but the other caught me completely off guard. Overall, the story left enough intrigue and unanswered questions to make me want to continue with the series.
Tropes Include: -He Falls First -Fated Mates -Captive/Captor -Vampire x Witch -”You Came” / “You Called”
This is the first book I have read from the author, and it won't be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Who doesn't love a book with witches, vampires, and fated mates!?
The tension between Harlow and Alec sizzled. I just wanted Harlow to come to terms with the feelings she had for Alec and to act on them, but that didn't happen.
Alec is a long-time vampire who has a long-time grudge/vendetta to the Sinclair lineage, who are witches. He will come face to face with Harlow Sinclair and she becomes everything to Alec not quite understanding, but the fate brought them together and together they'll uncover things from her past and a future of what's to come.
ARC provided from the author and Torch Lit Ink for an honest review.
This was a really interesting world! Witches and vampires, with a specific family line now containing the cure to vampirism, and the vampire king hunting the heir. Except when he finds her, killing her is far from his mind. Planning to sell her blood, the cure, and control her, Alec has kidnapped Harlow.
After realizing Harlow won't or can't use her magic, Alec tries to find a solution. Harlow fights the best she can and manages to escape, but not for long. Of course, the hunt is on, and Alec can't stop himself but he quickly learns that there's far more at play here when he doesn't become mortal.
🖤 A love story for the ages. I was sucked in immediately. (Pun intended). This is a book where good and evil collide and you are not forced to choose a side. My favorite character is a side character, Freya. You know it's a good book when you are equally obsessed with both the side character and the main characters.
🔥Enemies turned lovers that are brought together by fate. Alec and Harlow fight their pasts to gain a future. Alec is possessive and Harlow is fiercely strong and independent.
🏰The impeccable world-building had me completely immersed. Dark Flame is slotted to be first in a 5 book paranormal romance series, "Black Magic". I will be following along and devouring every book that comes out. I can't convey enough how much I enjoyed this book.
🚨Favorite quote: "You’re my middle, my forever. until eternity reaches a conclusion—if there is an end"
This is a new to me author and I was not disappointed! I fell right into Harlow and Alec’s world. Harlow was a perfect FMC - she put up a fight and showed how strong she was, but she also didn’t take forever to accept her feelings. My favorite part might have been Freya’s intermissions. These mini chapters were such a clever addition to the story. They had a way of giving the reader just enough background without losing you in the details. Would definitely read the next book!
