Sisters bound by love, separated by blood. . .
And doomed to face the unimaginable.
All points of the sister's lives have brought them to this moment, and this horrible realization. Chaos, an ancient and deadly deity, is free in the world. And the only way to stop her, is for the two sisters to face one another on the battle field, as enemies.
One of them must die if Chaos is to be stopped, but can either of them sacrifice the other, even for the safety of the world?
Blood will be spilt, loyalties divided, and hearts broken in this epic conclusion to the "Celtic Legacy" series.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you've read any of my books you'll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.
I started writing when I realized I didn't want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn't exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbour who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbours plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)
Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the centre of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn't enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we'll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don't make it to the highway.
I've taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn't happen often as it's hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)
As to what's coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I'll jump on it. Leap before you look I'm sure that motto was created for me.
Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons. Let's stick with the first one with an addendum.
Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.
I can't, in good conscience, give this author less than 3 stars
Yes, the plot was predictable and the books were so short, that they could have all been 1 book. Yes, the characters were flat and there was very little growth, despite the fact that the MC didn't know about this world. Yes, the characters were annoying at times.
It was a decent pizza-book. The plot and overall story were interesting. I liked the idea of the bond between sisters. And I really liked the Turtle-god, or whatever he was.
So, is the series worth reading? Maybe, if you're in the mood for a really fast, really light read.
I read this entire trilogy in an evening. I thought that the entire trilogy could have been one book. The plot line was silly & so obvious that I honestly wondered what reading level these books were meant for. I would normally review each book individually but there is not enough to say about each book to merit an entire review space. So this review is of the entire "Celtic Legacy "trilogy by Shannon Mayer. To give you a bit of information you start reading this book through a female 26 year old named Quinn. Blond, beautiful, & the elder sister of Ashling who has just graduated high school. They have no father figure in their lives. A bitter, seemingly self-centered cold woman who never felt that she was "the mom type". Quinn picks up the pieces & does all the things she wished her mother would have done for her fir Ashling creating a bond between the sister's that is closer than the usual sibling bond. The first book quickly throws you from normal everday life into a fantasy novel conplete with banshees , old gods that have been sleeping for centuries. An underwater cuvilization full if labyrinth & a completly pointless love triangle that ends up having no impact on the plot line & never comes to more than "penetrating gazes" that didn't even register in the erotic catagorie. A ancient prophecy states that one sister will have to kill the other to save the entire fae & formorri races from a war that will most likely level the planet. The positives about this book are few. It was a light, easy, read that had a few moments that were clever. It was edited well. It had descriptive writing that made for a pretty picture. The "Man-candy " sounded mouth watering even if no one even skimmed the sexual waters. The negative "s were many. There was to much thrown at Quinn's character to believe that there wouldn't have been a "am I crazy " page or two. As mentioned before these books were more of a novella
I liked that the serie ended after three episodes. But I think that in the end she is with Bres and Luke falls for her sister goes to quick for me. Also the fact that her sister and Luke are the new kings doesn't feel well for me. So for that reason I gave 3 stars.
Dark Fae picks up exactly where Dark Isle ended and it continues in much the same vein as the previous books. Quinn is sent around on mini-quest after mini-quest, sacrificing herself and saving those she loves. Without doubt, Quinn's love is the strongest aspect of this book. However, I'm not entirely certain we see why her sister deserves it so much. Additionally, Quinn continues to win battles despite being out manned, out skilled, and overpowered. I question the believability of it.
She did finally develop a backbone, though. That was appreciable. I liked seeing her strike out on her own, make her own decisions and act on them.
Like the previous books, I still didn't feel like we got to know the characters well. I kept waiting, but it just wasn't to be. I also thought the story wrapped up really predictably. EVERYONE had a happy ending. Even most of the evil characters were somehow excused and forgiven. For me, it was a little too schmaltzy, but I have a pretty low schmaltz threshold to start with.
All in all, it was a satisfying ending to an interesting series. The whole thing could do with some fleshing out, but I still enjoyed it.
I think I’m being VERY generous with 3 stars. I feel like Mayer deserves some praise for coming up with a unique story and trying to build a world and a mini-epic adventure type series as a first go round. However, this was just too ambitious. It started out great and you can tell the author wasn’t quite sure what she wanted to do here. There’s barely any sort of character development and there were certain characters brought back that I honestly forgot about that they existed. The story had so much promise and this finale just plain old boring.. anticlimactic and just head scratching. I never bought the whole love story with Luke, no one ever stopped to explain why the prophecy was changed and/or why everyone just went with whatever the Light fae leader said; we left Darcy to her devices and she was last seen hitchhiking... she suddenly becomes the Oracle and is capable of wondering around two different battle camps?; I thought gramps died in the last book and now he’s just still chilling with his mind warped in the mental institution...the mind warp that was supposedly due to him constantly using his healing abilities...the same healing abilities that draws on others life forces yet it drew from his sanity... yep that’s how it works. Eh, again kudos for the initial book and the idea. Points and props for being ambitious.

So, my favorite part of this book is the ending! I won’t go into details, but it just made me happy. The series is very wholesome. Good versus evil, but what is evil? What is prejudice? The morality of this storyline is an oldie but a goodie and I enjoyed the ride while walking my dog. Will it be in the top 10 of my books this year? No, but this is a YA novel, and if you know me, that’s normally not my jam. Shannon is a wonderful storyteller!
Bres, you dirty devil! Well, not dirty and not really a devil. But the man has a deviously wicked twinkle in his eye and I’m all for it! I also really liked Ballard. I know, I know… He’s the bad guy… What can I say, I love a misguided soul!
Apparently, when you are trying to save the world, there isn’t enough time to get down and dirty. Realistic? yes. Fun? For some maybe. I would have enjoyed it more, but again it is a YA, so I can’t fault a book for being a genre that isn’t my go-to!
Triggers: If you get triggered, please stop reading fantasy. It just isn’t the right genre for you. Maybe check out the small-town romances.
Dark & Light Fae Clash As Chaos Reigns!!💥💔🙏💖 A 3.5 Star Read 🌟 (Read using Kindle Unlimited) Dark Fae (A Celtic Legacy #3)
Quinn has to face multiple trails on her way to the final confrontation with Chaos. With Bres at her side she needs to save Luke, stop Card & Balor, figure out how to get the Council behind her & how to save her sister!!🙏🍀 Lir has gone to try & find allies. They need a sword with the power of Excalibur, so must find the three Smiths.🔥🔪
Quinn becomes a much stronger person than when she started out, thankfully!🙏 Love seems to be the greatest hope for them all.💕 Sacrifices are made, understandings reached & a prophesy fulfilled!!😲💥
A fairly decent finale. A little predictable perhaps!? Quinn & Ashling came more into focus, finally.🙏 Bres was my choice all along.😉 This was an ok series but definitely not up to the standard I'm used to from this amazing Author. I loved the subject matter though!🌟
This series was too short and it's lack of length caused plot holes everywhere, for no reason. Starting with the entire series takes place over about a week. So the intense emotions between characters who knew each other for a few days makes no sense. Especially between those who spent hours or sometimes even minutes together.
All the twists were supposed to be shocking, but those that weren't predictable added nothing to the story. What was the point of not telling the sisters they weren't human or anything about their heritage? Why did their mother go from a human with a bit a Fae heritage to the daughter of a Goddess, a Fae, and be The Oracle.
Don't get me started on the ending. She went from being the most powerful thing ever to nothing. All that magic and no one thought to teach her a healing spell?
Interesting finale. Of course we have things working out for the best. But that is not always a bad thing. I was hoping that there would be more development in the relationships but since it is YA, I wasn't terribly surprised. I was hoping that the story would just push the people together because the situation demands it. Can people find each other after all the drama maybe? Or have moments that are not related to the quest that forge connections? I love her writing style. The trilogy was a quick read. It was not as good as her Rylee series but I did enjoy it.
I seriously couldn't stop reading from Book 1 to the last Full Stop in Book 3! I can't leave anything here that I want to as it will be a Massive SPOILER, I'm a Good Fae Girl & would NEVER ruin a Book for anyone that probably hasn't read it yet! I could try to leave my Review in 'Mind to Mind but I haven't quite got the hang of it yet!😎 Happy Reading to ANYONE who hasn't finished this Race against Time, 1 eye'd Ex MOTHER in Law's, Screaming Banshees & thaptsjm vcffýğ7 6y y 444A1
One of the reasons for reading a book is the enjoyment derived from the plot and characters. Is this series complicated or filled with unknown twists and turns? Guess the answer to that question is a simple no.
But, as usual, Shannon Mayer has presented a book with likable characters that become real in our imaginations, a plot that is enjoyable and which contains continuity throughout the series.
I fully enjoyed reading this series and will continue to read anything Shannon Mayer writes. Why, because of the enjoyment derived from her well crafted stories.
3.5 Stars "Dark Fae" is the conclusion to the Celtic Legacy series. Each installment of this trilogy is short and thus three separate books are unnecessary. One book would have sufficed. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the unravelling of hard choices, sacrifice, and love. Quinn, the Chosen one and lead character concludes her journey deciding between family and power and ultimately, the story guides readers to what the effect of her choice means for others. This series is an easy listen (in my case), appropriate for all ages, and worthwhile for fans of fantasy fiction, magic and power struggle.
This was a most interesting book and series! I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns and the many many surprizes along the way. I enjoyed the "old" ones along with the main characters and their humaness showing. The stereotypes that were both true and false with the creatures and the Banshee. I was not trying to sort it out as I read, as much as I was on for the ride of the story and it's ending and message, Love survives. I highly recomend this book and series, one of the best I have read in some time actually.
What a great conclusion to the series. Jam packed with action and several things came to light in this final installment. Quinn doesn’t disappoint and as always follow your heart and listen to your gut! Can’t say more than that as I’m afraid I’ll say so spoilers.
I did listen to the audiobook and it was great!! The narrator uses a wide variety of tones and accents and it’s all pleasant to listen. Highly recommend!
Loved how this ended. In a sort of almost sappy "love conquers all" way, it wrapped up nicely. What saves it from being too sappy is the love that conquered all was the love between two sisters. As a reader I was witness to this love as well as redemption for those who were misguided because of their love as well as their fear because they believed in a prophecy. In my opinion this was the best of the three books, but entire trilogy needs to be read as a whole. I recommend this trilogy.
Good quick easy read. Series was action packed. Quinn and sister Ashling along with Luke and Bres are main characters. Fae camps are the Formorii and Tuatha but there are fae who are neither. We find out more about Quinn and Ashling’s mother, Darcy, and her story. This final book wraps up the fight with Chaos to save the world. It’s complicated because Chaos took over Ashling’s body. This author is an expert other world builder. Desert Cursed series was better but is 9 books long.
Really enjoyed this series, the characters were interesting, a bit complicated, but seemed genuine. Story line was intriguing, nice to use a place I've been as one of the characters, it gave the story for me a more personal feel. The writing is good, well edited and a good length. Thanks for an original well written story.
OK everything has been tied up and the story has come together. This trilogy is definitely worth the read. It has its fair share if twists and turns, but not as many as SMs more recent work. If you need to escape the world for a bit, this trilogy will do it nicely. I do wish there was more though...
Book 1 was a bit slow as the characters developed. Book 2 was faster and left you wondering. I found myself constantly holding my breath during Book 3. I don't want to give anything away because you should have to hold your breath, too. Highly recommend this book and this series.
I really like Shannon Meyers imagination. She makes a great yarn and weaves the disparate tendrils into cohesive story. I'd recommend this book as nice take for a night's reading when life has given it's worth and you just want to escape. I like also that this saga finished in three books. It's nice not to have to read ten books to get to a conclusion.
I Have enjoyed this series. It has a fine balance of fantasy and humanity. The characters in the story have struggled with their lives. Their personalities and their beliefs of a prophecy that was not necessarily true has affected this whole civilization and the choices they make. A Book and series well with reading and listening to.
Eh. Just eh. Predictable ending, overly simple. Still no real chemistry between the love interests. And even got slightly cringy at the end. Still felt like a huge chunk of the story was edited out. I left this series feeling unsatisfied, still having questions and then just giving up and not caring anymore.
I’m a sucker for HEAs and this series did not disappoint. Also, I’m planning on displaying this series in my hoard—that’s how much I loved it. I know Meyer wrote this series a bit ago, but she left the ending open so I’m hoping there’ll be more to read about these characters.
I blazed through this trilogy in 2 days. I had to keep on reading, but that's what happens anytime you start a series written by Shannon Mayer. Just the right blend of supernatural goings on and mythology!
I enjoyed reading this series from one of my favorite authors! It has a great foundation, full of interesting characters who draw you in, and I can't help loving Shannon's style and how she unfolds her stories. Definitely recommend reading!
Quinn's dedication to her sister ultimately realized. Family's relationships and new family of friends and lovers reward our heroine with a bright future. Good read.
The power of good & evil, the fierce love and loyalty of two sisters. The plot twists kept everything interesting & the growth of the female characters was satisfying.
This is the final book in this series . What a rollicking ride this was. One adventure after another with non-stop suspense. I am sad to see them.Go and not to know what will happen to all my beloved characters.
