The Rivers of Hell #2

The River of Hatred

Rate this book
I would’ve burned the stars for Ithuriel once. Now? I want to watch him fall.

Centuries ago, he left me to rot in the dark—righteous, untouchable, pretending he didn’t know how I was suffering. But the angels are crawling out of Heaven to seal the rift between Hell and the human world… and I see my chance.

This time, he’ll suffer.

And if I have to use our Nephilim companion, Jessica, to make that happen? Even better. She’s strong, beautiful, caught between light and shadow—just like I used to be. I never meant to want her. I never meant to want both of them.

However, somewhere in the blood-soaked depths of the Malebolge, between demons and damnation, everything starts to shift. Temptation was supposed to be my weapon. I never expected it to feel like redemption.

With Heaven and Hell closing in and betrayal waiting at every turn, I have to decide what’s more dangerous—this mission or the desire that’s tearing me apart.

After the hell fire from first book a team must go to fix the rift- including heartbroken Sarian, an angel Itha and warrior Jessica. Yes it totally does! And it’s awesome! So a lot of myth into this one which I loved and also brought up some story continuations from the novellas. But it did have some heartbreak, heavy but so good! Can’t wait for the continuation!!!

"“I’m being flown through Hell on the wings of angels, on a mission to save humanity via rift- closure. I’ll then go topside for the first time in years, and let me remind you, I haven’t seen the sun in that long. How could I possibly be bored?”" (Ch 4)

Sariel, an incorrigible fallen angel - full of sexual connotations and innuendos; Ithuriel, a prudish angel - righteous and indignant (an easy target for teasing); and Jessica, their precious mortal Nephilim - stuck in the middle as if they were a delectable sandwich.

They travel through Hell on a mission to investigate a rift to the human realm, but it is not smooth sailing with demon attacks and a tumble into the Malebolge to slow their gait. Not to mention the tension - all levels of it - between Sariel and Ithuriel. 🥵

The banter between the three is lip twitchingly endearing. I found myself smirking and trying to hold back from LOLing alongside them. The comraderie, growing feelings, and desire between them are progressive, and you can't help but root for them and want them to get together. They are so darn likable!

Another can't put it down read from Liana! Also, with Liana's books (for this series), you always get a reunion with past characters. It's nice to reconnect with them! Eager to read the next book when it comes out!

I have literally lived and breathed this series this week. They were amazing books, and this was no exception! As well as continuing the story from the perspective of 3 previously unexplored characters, 1 angel, 1 fallen angel, and 1 half human, the author only went and added a bloody 3some in this book, and I was all for it! The relationship isn't exactly smooth, and boy, do they fight their feelings, it was so delicious to read! 🥵

I have grown to love the authors writing style, the world building and history is smooth and effortless, the characters are relatable, and the spice scenes are just perfect! I felt like I was in the room, sandwiched between 2 gorgeous celestial beings, and I don't think I ever want to leave 🤣

This was definitely my favorite read this year so far!
The author really knows how to captivate her readers in her pages!

There was so much intense emotions and fun banter, I laughed, I cried and I tried summoning a certain fallen angel but I guess hes too buzy with his other two companions to hear my call🥲

The chemistry between the three MCs were *Chefs kiss🤌🏻 This book was just as perfect as book one but then with an extra team player iykyk 👀

If you love fun banter, sassy mcs, a quest, adventure and a book hotter than a sauna in a vulcano placed on the sun you will LOVE this book!

The author did such an amazing job on this book i can’t wait to read more of her!

Also make sure to grab a waterbottle to stay hydrated during this read your health matters!

This is book number two in The River of Hell series. I loved getting to go back into this world that Liana created. These characters are incredible, and the banter is on another level. I couldn’t wait to see more of Sariel, which definitely did not disappoint.

Sariel is a playboy who seems to be constantly suffering from a broken heart. He has been pining for the angel, Ithuriel, for a thousand years. When he sees an opportunity to insert himself back into his presence, he takes it. His plan to hurt him turns into actual feelings again, and the transition is heart-warming.

Ithurial should be protected at all costs. His innocence and huge heart are swoonworthy. I just want to hug him.

I enjoyed this book so much. It was just as good as the first one. I can’t wait for the next one. The sneak peek we got into the couple is *chef’s kiss*. Give me all the MM romances, please, and thank you. I 100% recommend reading these books. They are fantastic. You will not be disappointed. They are available on KU. Do not sleep on these.

Quotes:
Curse these meddling mortals and their nefarious plans. All I want to do is teach the two a lesson about teasing me with their unassumingly sexy clothing.

“I gave up half of what I am for the both of you. The other half died when you left me.” I tilt my head. “By my calculations, with the two of you, I’m now finally whole.”

Ever wondered what it’d be like between an Angel and a Fallen?
Read TROH. Start with the first book, The Gates of Hell!

Just like Liana’s previous books in the series, this one is packed with hilarious banter in a world of angels vs. demons—with humans stuck in the middle. TROH follows a familiar set of main characters and dives into their journey through the underworld, battling tension and those who are damned.

This was such a great and quick read. I was laughing at all the innuendos, witty banter, and tension. There was a massive moment in this book where I literally kicked my feet because YES, LI, THANK YOU!! That’s all—and everything after THAT chapter was just as divine!

Thank you @liana.valerian You already know I’m hooked for this series and cannot wait to see what else happens in this world of yours 🖤🖤🖤

I will never get over Liana’s books!

This book took me out. Sariel is the definition of emotionally wrecked and morally grey, and I loved every second of it. The push and pull between him, Ithuriel, and Jessica had me holding my breath. It’s not just spicy — it’s heavy in all the right ways. The grief, the betrayal, the tension… it all hit so deep.If you have read the rest of the series it just keeps getting better and better. This one is definitely in my top 3 for the river of Hell series.

I was so excited to be back in the Rivers of Hell series and to get more of Sariel, the fallen angel, and consummate flirt and playboy. As he sets out with an angel from his past, Ithuriel, and a Nephilim, Jessica, on a mission to close a rift between heaven and hell, he is also plotting his revenge on Ithuriel for being the reason he fell from heaven and for leaving him alone for centuries. Sariel is determined to use everything he can, including their Nephilim, to make Ithuriel fall.

This is one of my favorite reads of 2025! The sexy banter, steamy scenes and non-stop action paired with the emotional forbidden love story makes this a must read for everyone who loves a story with friends to enemies to lovers, forced proximity, found family and a lot of spice!

Thank you Liana Valerian for the BETA read opportunity and ARC. As always, these are my own honest thoughts and opinions.

Liana Valerian does it again! If she writes it I'm buying it! At this point I don't even know what to say anymore except that she unsurprisingly deserves all the praise again with this book and her books just keep getting better and better!

I'm usually not big on why choose cause I like my men obsessive and level "touch her and 💀" possessive or better yet look at her and 💀, but it's Liana so of course I devoured it!

The witty banter was on point as always and had me chuckling throughout the whole book! The chemistry between the three main characters was insane and I loved the whole enemies to lovers with a little payback scheming thing going on, cause let's face it that leads towards some of the best spice!

Dante's inferno and all the theological and mythological easter eggs had me geeking out so hard again and when some familiar faces joined our little group, I squealed so hard I probably alarmed the whole neighborhood!

And can we talk about that spice map!? I love it and I think it's absolutely briliant! We need more books with spice maps in them!

This is book 2 of The Rivers Of Hell series and for the full experience it's best to read books 0,5 - 1 and 1,5 first but you can definitely read this as a standalone too.

Liana did it again: she wrote the next masterpiece in her The Rivers of Hell series. This time, the story centers on Sariel, Ithuriel, and Jess. Sariel and Ithuriel have known each other for centuries, but when Sariel chose to leave Heaven, he left Ithuriel behind as well. Meanwhile, Jess, another Nephilim, is brought to Hell to fight against the lost souls threatening to break through and invade the human realm above.

Following the recent events of the previous books, these three are tasked with finding the rip through which the lost souls are escaping Hell. Their journey is full of surprises, especially as they venture into the Malebolge and navigate its treacherous paths.

As always, the story is brimming with banter and witty humor, while seamlessly incorporating historical facts into the plot. The characters evolve with each passing day of their journey, and the dynamic among them becomes both intense and—let’s be honest—hot as hell. While this installment leans more toward a slow burn compared to the others, it’s no less captivating. The suspense is palpable, the emotions run high, and the twists will leave you reeling.

Prepare yourself for unexpected surprises, and if you haven’t already, use this time wisely to catch up on the previous books in the series. You won’t regret it!

Quotes:
Sariel scoffs. “Are you overcompensating for something with that oversized blade?”
I feel my lips stretch into a smile. “Says the male who hides behind two edges. Afraid one won’t get the job done?”

“Yeah, yeah,” I interrupt. “I’ll show you vulgar when I slurp your d!ck down like it’s a straw in my mango and passionfruit bubble tea.”
The angel sputters. “I– I have no idea what you just said.”
*Oh, you know enough.*
“Can I watch?” the little vixen purrs.

I’m shaking my head before he even finishes his thought. “I gave up half of what I am for the both of you. The other half died when you left me.” I tilt my head. “By my calculations, with the two of you, I’m now finally whole.”

The River of Hatred was an absolutely amazing read that I couldn’t put down! 💜 The world building, connections, characters, details, spice — everything was soo well written and flowed perfectly. The plot was so interesting and gripping, and I was flipping to the next page like mad towards the end!

Jessica was such a sassy girl and I loved her personality. She acts shy sometimes, but other times she is so bold, and sometimes (a lot) her mind is filthy!! But I’m sure I would be having the same thoughts she was having if I was in her position with Sariel & Ithuriel…. 🥵 The way that she forms a connection and settles in with both of them was so great to read and watch unfold! Her banter and shared humor with Sariel, and her softer, passionate side with Ithuriel was a beautiful contrast and I loved the different sides to her we got to see 💙

Sariel is truly something else, and I adore his character. I loved him in The River of Fire, and loved him even more by the end of this book 💜 His personality is so funny and he was constantly making me snort or crack up! After what happened to him in the first book, seeing him find happiness again and return to his normal self was soooo heartwarming. His feelings and past with Ithuriel add another layer to his character, and I was so happy with how their relationship developed after they were able to talk to each other and work things out, not to mention the unexpected attachment to Jess he found 💙

Ithuriel was such a sweetheart and his pov’s were so different from Sariel’s and Jessica’s, in the best way. I love the way he talks and gets so flustered over almost everything Sariel says 😂 He is so innocent and pure, but his fall was so sinfully sexy 🥵 His discovery of his feelings and progression of acting on them had the tensions rising SO high it was almost killing me!! When faced with inner conflicts, he finds calmness and reassurance from realizing he has Jess and Sariel by his side, no matter what. Ithuriel melted my heart and had me swooning💜

This book was phenomenal and another great book in the series that has soooo much plot and world building, not to mention delicious, mouthwatering spice 🔥 The descriptions of the places and environments, and the variety of beings really create a universe you can imagine. The storyline is so great, and it constantly has your attention, while also making you feel so many emotions. I was literally kicking my feet and squealing in excitement when two certain characters were hinted at, and then when they made an appearance I was all but jumping up and down!!! 💜💜 I just love how everything connects so perfectly in this world 💙 I will never stop recommending this series!

Sariel: A fallen angel with a grudge. Ithuriel: A warrior of Heaven with too much to lose. Jessica: The Nephilim caught between them.

In Heaven, Sariel and Ithuriel were inseparable. At one point, Sar would have done anything for Itha…but now? Sariel will do anything to watch Ithuriel fall. When Ithuriel ends up in Hell as part of the angels’ mission to close the rift between Hell and the human world, Sariel inserts himself into the operation in order to seek vengeance. Ithuriel left Sariel to suffer in Hell for centuries, having forgotten him. Now, Sariel will ensure that the righteous angel will understand what it means to fall. And if Sariel has to use their captivating Nephilim companion, Jessica, to make that happen? Even better.

As the trio descends into the treacherous depths of the Malebolge, encountering the damned and the demons who rule over their suffering, Sariel’s machinations of seduction take a turn. When the temptation he dangled is no longer a weapon but brings about feelings of salvation, he’s left questioning his intentions and end game. Will these three be able to save humanity without endangering their hearts in the process?

I DEVOURED this story! The plot is fast-paced, filled with the best banter to make you snicker, and when the slow burn hits? 🥵🥵🥵 The dynamic between Sar, Itha and Jess was perfection. Each member of this trio brought an element the others were missing and they meshed together so well. Behind Sar’s deviant humor, is a heart in need of healing, and Itha and Jess help mend his wounds. Itha’s awakening showed a deeply-rooted love for Sar that was centuries in the making, and Jess helped bring them together. Jessica…she’s who we all wish we could be *sighs wistfully* 😂

This series just keeps getting better and better! Do yourselves a favor and descend into the Underworld so you can meet your new book besties and boyfriends/girlfriends!

I'm so hooked on this series! Liana has done it again, weaving a tale of revenge, lust into love and salvation. Each book in this series is better than the last, and The River of Hatred just moved to spot #1, for me. I was already so excited for the throuple situation in this book, but it was even more delicious than I had hoped for. And it was really just the icing on top of the continuation of areally good story. Y'all sure know I LOVE a huge heaping of spice on top of a really good plot.

Thus far, in The Rivers of Hell, it's been Liana's leading ladies that have stolen the show, for me. And while I do love me some Jess, it was Sariel and Ithuriel that really stole it this time. The history between them, the intense feelings between them, and definitely not always good feelings. They're night and day and I love them both so much. Definitely my newest book boyfriends! 🤤🤍🖤

While every book in the series has had emotional story and plot, this one hit hardest for me. It was just the perfect balance of personal plot lines on top of main storyline, again with an extra hot serving of smüt. I was glued to this one, from the first to the last page, never wanting to put it down. And I really believe y'all will love it just as much.

Now, for the steamy bits I keep mentioning... Oh my lovelies, be prepared to step into 'one handed reading' territory! Not that our beautiful author hasn't always served it up hot and juicy, cause she absolutely has, but The River of Hatred? Maybe it's the ⚔️ sword crossing ⚔️ on top of the usual deliciousness, but I was FERAL reading this. And because of that, this 5 ⭐ read is getting a burning hot 5 outta 5 🌶️'s, from your favorite Southern book witch.

So, if you love MMF, Forced proximity, Angel + Fallen Angel + Human, a Virgin MMC, Possessive vibes, Friends/Frenemies to lovers, Witty and funny banter, Revenge/Redemption/Salvation stories, Positive Queer Rep, Throuples and more than I highly recommend this book! Just make sure you're caught up on the previous book and novellas, because these are not standalone stories. When you're finished, drop a comment ⬇️ below ⬇️ and tell me what you thought! ☺️

Diving into The River of Hatred feels like stepping into a tempest where celestial politics, ancient grudges, and forbidden desires collide. As Liana Valerian masterfully continues her saga, this is not just a journey into Hell; it’s a descent into the hearts of three characters who’ve already been through something much worse.

Sariel, the fallen angel with a centuries-old grudge, is at the centre of this novel’s emotional gravity. He’s bitter, seductive, and broken in all the ways that make for good reading. Valerian doesn’t flinch from the ugliness of him—and that’s what makes his unravelling so compelling. His revenge against Ithuriel isn’t some cartoon villainy; it’s a slow-burn, emotionally fraught reckoning that feels earned.

Jessica, the Nephilim tethered between Heaven and Hell, serves as more than a plot device or romantic foil. She’s an anchor amongst the chaos, not merely a weak human thrown into the mix.

And while Ithuriel is the most reserved of the trio, his emotional restraint makes the eventual cracks in his armour all the more satisfying.

The trio's interactions are charged with tension, each encounter layered with history, pain, and unspoken emotions.

Some of the hellscape traversal feels like it leans on lore more than narrative drive, but the emotional payoffs feel raw and real. There’s sizzling heat here, yes, but also intimacy, guilt, and longing. Every touch feels like a betrayal and a benediction.

What struck me most was how unflinching the book is in its portrayal of transformation. These characters don’t just fall in love—they fall apart, fall down, and fall through all the layers of their own pain until they hit something like grace.

It's not quite redemption. But close enough to hurt. The River of Hatred is a testament to Valerian's prowess in blending dark fantasy with profound emotional depth.

The River of Hatred is absolutely stunning! We pick up right where we left off after book 1, The River of Fire.

Here we follow Jess, Sariel, and Ithuriel on their journey to find a rift in Hell. And my goodness, did I just fall in love with these characters immediately! We've already gotten glimpses of them from the first book, and now they've fully come to life. 😍

Jess, this freaking woman! I love her sarcastic and humorous nature. She's soft, yet feisty and holds her own in any situation. I loved digging deeper into her life before she was taken to Purgatory along with the other Elioud. She deserves that pure kind of love that only Sariel and Ithuriel could give her. 💛

Sariel is just as cheeky as ever. By the end of book 1 I was really looking forward to where his character was going to go. He's been dealing with the loss and grief of his lost lover, and clearly has this backstory with Ithuriel that is more complicated than he makes it out to be. This fallen angel really is more complex than he lets on!

And Ithuriel, our neighborhood angel next door. 🥹 He really takes propriety to another level. I love the push and pull of his emotions and how he navigates his feelings for Sariel and Jess. Even though as an angel, he shouldn't be having those thoughts or feelings at all should he? His inner battle is one of my favorite things about book 2.

And when I say the chemistry these three have is on fire? I'm not joking! 🔥🔥🔥 I couldn't tear my eyes away from the page if I tried! Even in the near touch moments, I just appreciate the connection between them all individually and as a group!

I cannot wait to see what comes next in the series! This world Liana has built is complex and beautiful and I love it! 💛

ARC Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars!

Book: The River of Hatred by Liana Valerian

The River of Hatred is book two in The Rivers of Hell series. A highly anticipated book on my part ever since I knew we were getting a story with Sariel as the MC. Knowing this was going to be an mmf story made it even more exciting!!

“𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘴𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦,” 𝘐 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘪𝘮. “𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱,” 𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘰𝘸𝘴.

Liana not only blessed us with the hot Fallen angel Sariel, she also gifted us the gorgeous angel Ithuriel and the badass Nephilim Jessica. Put those three together, and you get one hell of a hot mix on a mission! I loved reading about these three, the surprise of having to work together and then having to face all these challenges. All while their feelings for each other are going haywire

"𝘐 𝘴𝘩𝘶𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘴 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘪𝘯, 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘰 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵. 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘥, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘐 𝘴𝘦𝘦. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘺 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘥, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘵."

I once again enjoyed the witty banter, the awesome characters, and this intricate world full of Angels and Demons. I love how this series dips into the mythology of all kinds of creatures and ancient stories. This book had a lot of fun and very hot twists going on! I don't want to spoil too much, but I loved the surprise in the second part where everyone started working together

“𝘉𝘺 𝘮𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴, 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘸𝘰 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘐’𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦.”

I want to thank Liana Valerian for sending me an eARC to read and review 🖤 I'm forever grateful to be a part of your team!!

I was looking forward to this book as swords cross and that’s my fav, 🤭 and I really enjoyed it. The love Sariel has carried for Ithuriel is swoon worthy. The hurt and abandonment they both felt after Sariel fell was heartbreaking. They are star crossed lovers and the progression of their relationship was great to read. They are truly meant for each other.

I was expecting more angst from Ithuriel either during or after he gives in to his desires. While there was some brooding from him he accepted it pretty quickly. I would have loved to see more turmoil over his fall from him but it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story.

Jessica was so cute. She’s a warrior but also such a crushing girlie for both Sariel and Ithuriel and it was adorable. Their journey was perilous and through the trials the boys both become so protective and sweet toward her and each other. And she definitely demonstrates her capabilities which I loved.

And the surprise in Part 2 was amazing! Loved, loved, loved that whole story line and the addition of Lana, Ashtaroth, Naamah and Kevin. It was so great to see all of them in the mix.

And Aim? Oof. More please.

I really enjoyed the world Liana built in this book and the plot progression we see from the first book in the series kept my interest. I am looking forward to book 3 for sure although I will warn readers the book does end a little abruptly but the trios story is complete when it does. The ending leaves you wondering what is going to happen next!

Liana Valerian did it again. When I first read Gates of Hell I was in love and wanted more from the demon and angel. She told me they would make an appearance but I didn’t know when. I impatiently waited and fell in love with everything she has written since. I was never one for mythology romance (that’s what I call it) but the way she writes and the characters and the spice! OMG!!!! Sooo good!!!
The banter in this book was sooo good! I couldn’t put this book down once I started it.

Sariel, a fallen angel who happens to also be a flirt and a playboy, is our MMC who starts out on a mission to close the rift between heaven and hell with an old friend Ithuriel who is an angel from heaven and Jessica a Nephillim. Does he get his revenge or does it back fire on him? Find out in this spicy, paranormal romance full of banter and laughs. I was kicking my feet and turning red at the same time. Liana knows how to write romance people!!!! Do yourself a favor and read these books!!!

The River of Hatred by Liana Valerian is the second book in the series, and it brings a whole new perspective with a delicious mix of tropes:

✨ MMF
✨ Virgin MMC
✨ Found family
✨ Fallen angel x angel
✨ Banter

A vengeful fallen angel, a dutiful warrior of Heaven, and a Nephilim torn between them are thrust together on a mission to seal the rift between Hell and Earth—but as desire blurs the line between betrayal and redemption, the greatest threat may not be the demons below, but the secrets and longing burning between them.

After devouring the first book and all the companion novellas set in this universe, I dove into this one with high expectations—expecting more of Lana and Ash’s chaotic and steamy journey. But instead, I was pleasantly surprised to be swept up in the story of her teammate Jess and Ash’s chosen son, Sariel.

While this book isn’t quite as laugh-out-loud funny as Lana’s story, it still delivered plenty of wit, great banter, and a strong emotional pull. The romance felt tender and intense, especially watching Sariel—who has been pining for a literal millennium—finally get his chance to seduce the archangel he's longed for.

It’s equal parts steamy, romantic, and emotional, and I really enjoyed this deeper dive into the world and its characters. I’m so excited to see where the rest of the series goes from here!

Someone please tell me what Liana puts in her books because I’m hooked and so ready for more 😍 the way she links all this books together so flawlessly, and how well written it is, makes it so easy to follow the storyline perfectly!

I loved loved loved the dynamic between our MCs!! And the banter, affection and spice between these three? 😮‍💨 Jess, Sariel and Itha may have just stolen my heart completely!

I loved how sariel had originally set out to get his revenge against Itha by using jess to lure him in, but how he couldn’t even fight his feelings for these two characters and gave up his revenge to build such a strong relationship instead ❤️

This book was full of some amazing spice scenes, captivating storylines and plot twists I never saw coming but oh how they are freaking incredible. And seeing every book character in this series so far incorporated in just keeps Theo whole series fresh in my mind and constantly thinking of it!

I honestly can not wait to see where this goes next 😍

My fave quote:
“You keep saving me,” I tell him. “I won’t stop,” he vows.

For the lovers of supernatural romance and fantasy romance with LOTS of spice, enter the Rivers of He series by Liana Valerian!

The River of Hatred is the second book in the series. This book is about a vengeful fallen angel named Sariel that sets out on getting even with an old adversary named Ithuriel. When Sariel joins Ithuriel in a fight to close the rift between He and the Human World, Sariel sees his chance to exact vengeance by using their Nephilim companion Jessica to help lead to his undoing.

The characters in this book each have their own distinct personality and character development, and the author was able to write a great chemistry between them. The world building was also great, which I expected after reading her other books. The spice in this book is less Why Choose and more of a shared polyamory, and it was fun to watch the characters build their bond with each other as the story went on. Outside of the spiciness (which is heavy in this book), there is great banter, enemies to lovers, and a revenge to salvation story. There is also a great plot to follow with some high stakes. This was a fast paced fun story, and I look forward to more to come in this series!

This is by far my favourite book in the series. I’ve loved them all—every single character holds a special place in my heart, but this one?.....It has everything. It may be the river of hatred, but I could only love this book.

Fast-paced and full of action, spice, and banter—exactly what we’ve come to know and love from Liana. It blends the sweetness of The Gates of Hell, the action of The River of Fire, and the spice and dominance of The Realm of Shadows. You’ll be swept up in it all, emotion, tension, heat, and heart.

I love that this book is structured as a journey. Who doesn't love a quest! We travel with the characters, not just through the world but through themselves.

Jess. Oh sweet Jess! I loved seeing more of her develop here. Her positivity, her resilience, her incredibly relatable inner monologue... she’s the perfect glue. The binding agent that holds this chaotic, beautiful group together. Smart and the perfect balance of Sariel and Itha. Able to hold her own with Sar's banter, and also wholesome with Itha.

Sariel. Oh my god. Hot, sexy, sinful Sariel. If you want to feel like you're about to come in your pants just from reading? He’s your guy. Constantly confident, full of innuendos, absurdly hilarious, and emotionally loaded. He pushes boundaries and handles some heavy stuff—especially around abandonment—but he’ll quickly steal your heart and your bed. His Character development arc was soo satisfying to read here. The amount of times he made me eye roll while laughing was too numerous to count - about as many times as i bit my lip reading this novel.

Itha, my sweet starlight. The newbie to the group. So caring, so pure, so opposite—he’s the soft heart of the group. Always checking on others, always trying to be the voice of reason. Watching him open up and let his guard down was so special. Strong contender for a green flag book boyfriend of the year. I really enjoyed watching him grapple with his emotions, and questioning things he thought he knew.

This book doesn’t shy away from weighty themes—abandonment, grief, love turned sour, love trying to survive through spite and regret. But it never feels too heavy, you don't feel bogged down with it all. Somehow, Liana balances the pain and the humour so well. One minute you're laughing, the next your heart is splitting. That’s no easy feat so huge kudos to Liana for this. It's as poignant as it is funny.

Obviously, the spice is SPICING, and I was jealous of Jessica more than once. Okay.. A LOT more than once...

This book had me laughing, crying, side-eyeing, gasping, clenching my thighs, and clinging to the edge of my seat —plus there were some incredible nods to Dante’s Hell that fans of mythology and literary layers will love. I know i did!

I feel like I'm saying that after finishing each book in the Rivers of Hell series, but this one is definitely my favorite. Liana's writing keeps getting better and better.

Sariel, Ithuriel and Jessica were incredible together. Their dynamic was hilarious, full of yearning, tension and oh so spicy. I was blushing while reading some scenes.
Liana knows how to write a great found family. I loved getting more of the entire cast.

I have to say that the overachieving mystery plot is blowing my mind. I was pretty sure I had some stuff figured out but I'm still shocked at the plot twists. I can't wait to see where this is going in the next books.

I need a book on Mike and also on Aim right now!!!

I was thrilled to read the second book. The world is created masterfully, the hell, the purgatory… Liana builds such a deep and fascinating universe.

However, the first part of the book felt a bit slow and somewhat dragged out for me, but once it picked up, it became really engaging and such a fun, quick read. At times, the multiple POVs got a little confusing. I often had to check whose perspective I was reading-but it didn’t take away from the overall experience. And the spicy scenes? 🔥 Super, super hot. Absolutely delicious.

My favorite character is Lana. Even though in this book she steps more into a side role, she’s still just amazing! I absolutely love her!

Perfect for readers who enjoy dark fantasy worlds, multiple POVs, and deliciously hot romance.

Absolutely fantastic read! It’s definitely one of the best books I have read this year so far.

There’s lots of action, excitement and the humour is great! The banter between the three main characters is just so amusing. Sariel is just a sexy tease and Ithuriel is just such a cool serious dude. Jessica is so lovely but has her hands full (literally) with those guys 😂

I loved how the book is separated into two parts with Part one being in Hell and Part Two being mainly topside and the ending? Well …. It left me guessing and desperate for more.
I cannot wait to see what happens next on the quest to stop Andras and his brainwashed followers.

Another great read from Hell…

I don’t normally gravitate toward throuple or polyamorous romance, but I’ll read anything Liana Valerian writes—and The River of Hatred did not disappoint. As a fan of the Rivers of Hell series, I couldn’t miss this installment, and I’m so glad I didn’t. The characters are complex, the worldbuilding is as rich and dark as ever, and the emotional depth of the relationships was beautifully handled. Sariel, Ithuriel, and Jessica each brought something unique to the dynamic, and their connection felt authentic, intense, and incredibly satisfying. This book hooked me from the start and left me eager for more. Bring on the next, please!

I think I died and went to whatever realm is the most fun cuz this book is just splendiferous. Yeah I need a big word to show how exceptional this latest book in the series is. The males are something else. Romantic, simps, suckers for love, whatever you want to call it (definitely there's some sucking happening between the males and the males plus female). The spicy scenes in the book will leave you dehydrated for sure. But your floors will never be cleaner with all the mopping that will need to be done. I don't know why people aren't swarming this whole series. It's so effing good!!!!

I am in love. I am in love with every main character in this series. How it has not blown up in popularity yet is a mystery to me.

I absolutely loved that we still got to hear from Lana and Ash in this book. And the fact that it’s a cliffhanger ending, has me absolutely greedy for the next one.

The writing style? Perfection. The spice? Absolutely woven into every fabric of this series. The characters? You will be upset you can’t marry them.

Do yourself a favour and read this book. It’s a hellishly good time.
