Ryn has spent years trying to escape the shadows of her past, haunted by abuse and the constant threat of homelessness. After finally breaking free from a toxic relationship, she's left with nowhere to turn-until a seemingly kind family man offers her a room to rent.
At first her new home feels like a safe haven, a glimpse of the stability she's always craved. But as unsettling events and dark secrets begin to unravel, Ryn realises that her sanctuary may be far more dangerous than the life she left behind. With no one even aware she's in danger, Ryn must confront her worst fears alone. Can she survive the nightmare that waits behind closed doors?
Adeline Franklin is a twisted soul lurking in the shadows of rural Australia, crafting emotional labyrinths that weave through darkness, desire, tension, and terror. Her stories aren’t for the faint of heart—she thrives on creating heartbreakingly beautiful chaos, where love and horror dance in equal measure. When she’s not conjuring nightmares or setting hearts ablaze, she’s indulging in her greatest obsession: pickles and chilli. Separately, together—any way she can get them. If there’s a way to add spice and tang to life, she’s already there.
I wrote this book because stories like this—while difficult—need to be told. Too often, the realities of abuse and survival are silenced or ignored. This is a story about pain, but also about strength. About what it means to endure, to fight, and to reclaim what was taken. If this book resonates with you, please know you are not alone.

Lots of triggers and detailed trauma, so make sure you check them trigger warnings! But wow, I'm going to stare into space for five hours now while I process the emotions swirling through me. I'll be back with a better review once I'm done. 🫠
Ryn’s life has been one hell of a mess. A shitty childhood, a trash boyfriend who dumps her without a second thought ( TBF… I would have called him A C**** too) and now she’s staring down homelessness. Just when she thinks she’s found salvation……... can bestie can save her? Probably not…But you know who can? The man who’s been watching her from the shadows.
Kaden. Oh, you sexy, broody stalker—make me a pizza 🍕anytime. iYKYK
This book gripped me. You live inside Ryn’s head, feeling every fear, every heartbreak, every ounce of rage. The second you start, you have to know what happens next. Will she get her HEA? I’ll let you be the judge of that.
Revenge. Murder. Drugs. A car so cursed it should be set on fire.
I had the absolute honor of being part of the process for this book as a Beta reader/ sounding board helping with flow, words, descriptions. Watching it come to life? Unreal. It’s haunting. It’s powerful. It’s absolutely fucked me up in the best way.
When I hit the last page, I sobbed. My partner had to hold me because I was wrecked. And honestly? I’d do it all over again.
You need to read this book. You need to follow this authors journey she is going far!
"Because vengeance never rests - and neither will I."
Holy crap. This book left me flabbergasted when I finished it - I had no idea what I was expecting but this was not it (and I mean this in a good way). This book is not an easy read, it is brutal and raw, and the author does not hold back. Ryn, our fmc, goes through so much sh!t and your heart when tear apart for her. Kaden, our mmc, he’s obsessive with st@lker vibes and I loved him. This is a quick story with fast pacing and it pulled me in from the get go. The revenge side of this book was absolutely unhinged and I lived for it. BUT THAT ENDING?! What the actual hell!! Again, I mean this in a good way, but I was shook and left not knowing how to feel with what I just read. It was an absolute surprise ending for sure.
"I've always believed Ryn and I were meant to be together, and if destiny had other plans, l'd rewrite them. Whatever lengths it took, l'd make her mine."
🖤 touch her and d!e 🔥 revenge & trauma 🖤 surprise ending 🔥 obsessive mmc 🖤 psychological thriller
“If at first you don’t succeed, it’s only attempted murder.”
Oh man, after this one, I had to take a minute to collect my thoughts. This. Was. Rough. And what was truly frightening was the likelihood that this story could absolutely happen in real life.
Okay, so, our FMC Ryn is down in the dumps. Recently kicked out by her abusive boyfriend, Ryan has a lousy job, only a dodgy car to her name and is in desperate need of a place to live. Ryn's friend comes through with a room for rent in a seemingly nice house in the bush. Enter a literal horror story of a situation.
The only person who could possibly save Ryn is Kaden. Dark, obsessed, vengeful, Kaden. Will he make it in time? Will they finally get their happily ever after? This story broke a part of me. I cannot wait to experience what the next book has in store.
This book is all things heartbreaking, triggering, raw, empowering.
CHECK THESE TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE STARTING THIS BOOK! This book touches on some VERY heavy topics and goes into great detail. Do not take the warnings lightly.
I went into this book with a very open mind, unsure of what to expect (outside the warnings) and I’m glad I did. It touches on a heartbreaking story of Ryn and her life. Of continuously being let down, beaten, hurt, traumatised, no one being able to be there and stop it from happening. She finally gets a moment of revenge and healing, she allows herself to be loved completely in the end.
In a way this book is healing, it’s a show that you can make it and you can get out. It’s a show that you can find your power and embrace it.
The best way I can describe this book is devastatingly powerful and an empowering heartbreak.
Book Review: Satan’s Vessel by Adeline Franklin Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Ive been in a bit of a slump with moving house not knowing what to read or finding it hard to stay engaged in a book but im back!
Satans Vessel by Adeline Franklin follows the journey of Ryn and Kaden and I was addicted from the first page. I devoured this in one sitting today! A debut author you wouldn’t know as the way Adeline writes she just has you hooked from the beginning. I am eagerly awaiting the next book!
Whilst this is a dark romance and covers some deep topics as always please read your trigger warnings and take care of your mental health!
This book… good lord this book. I honestly felt so stressed and anxious reading this story it will have you sitting and staring at the wall in silence for a chunk of your day or night. So prepare yourself for that.. adelinefranklinauthor has just released the most chaotic, dark and captivating story that will leave you reeling for more. Ryn our strong FMC just can’t catch a break for real, the things she has to go through in life is honestly wild and I just wanted to wrap her up in an blanket and keep her safe. But aside from everything she endures shes also so incredibly strong which is one of the things I loved most about this story 🖤
This book. Oh my god this book. Do I now need therapy? Probably Would I do it again? 100 percent Does it do all the triggery things , yes it does but in all the best ways. Our FMC Ryn has had the shortest of short straws in life, abusive exes, asshole family, drugs, abuse, capture, and a car that hates her and its own existence. ( like burn that bloody car already). This book is an emotional rollercoaster and a bit of a mind fuck that quite literally required a week of processing just to come to terms with everything I had read, and the ending.. ( why!! Why that ending!!) I cried. I questioned. I wanted to hug the author. And anyone else who read it because as part of the blessed Beta team my gosh we all went through this together and trauma bonded. Adeline had a writing style that grips you and keeps you needing more, I devoured this book in a day. She builds characters and their reality so richly you FEEL their pain. At no time was the story predictable, the twists and turns never expected and the ending honestly somewhere between so romantically poetic and a gut wrenching devastation. You follow our character as she fights for her very life against the cruelest that life could possibly bring, always with a fire in her belly to not give in to the darkness around her. The dedicated ‘ touch her and die’ madly in love stalker she never truly realised she had ( but we all wish We had ) in his own turmoil as he tried to find her and save her. The best friend who literally looses her life trying to be the best friend she can be. This book is a dark romance that you simply must read. And then read again just to take it all in. Simply, amazing.
As a massive lover of dark romance, and happily saying that under your scars broke me the most, I think this tops under your scars! It only took 180 pages to completely destroy me
Holy moly, that was a rollercoaster and a half!
PLEASE CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS! A lot, and I mean a lot of triggers for so many people I’m sure!
ILL ADD THAT THERE IS NO HEA! THE IS SELF UNALIVING, NOT JUST IDEATION PLEASE ENTRE CAREFULLY!
I have straight up respect for the author and she has my sincerest love, and I just want to hug you like no tomorrow! I’m proud of you for using your own experience as a way to write a heart wrenching story! I’ve alway been told that writing your experiences helps to work through the trauma so I hope your book was sort of a form of therapy.
Ryn, my poor ryn, I’m so sorry for everything that you went through, she suffered years (I may have interpreted the time wrong) of Ab*se, and SA to only be kicked out for calling him a name whilst he was within another girl. She rocks up on her friends doorstep who is helping her find a place and start to heal, poor Annie had no idea who she was sending Ryn too, honestly none of us do he seems so sweet. But boy was I wrong, this story is so well written and drew me in right from the Easter egg hunt warning!
Adeline, you absolutely shattered my heart! I can’t wait for book two, a little scared but excited
I just finished Satan’s Vessel and honestly… I’m disappointed. If an author is going to write about the big, heavy things like rape, torture, violence, and death, then those moments need to mean something. They need emotional weight, consequence, impact. They need to be handled with respect and a kind of brutal honesty.
There were moments that almost reached that point, but most of the time it felt like the shock was the point.
So many scenes were distorted through the FMC’s drugged POV that the gravity of what was happening slipped away. I get why her perception was hazy, but as a reader it felt like we were being numbed too. With no second POV and no sharp moments of clarity to contrast the haze, the consequences never landed. The stakes evaporated because Ryn was too drugged to feel the horror, and we were dragged into that same emotional disconnect.
Instead of feeling the fallout of these dark themes, I felt removed from them. Censored. Disconnected.
The ending didn’t land the way it should’ve. The scene with the sister felt oddly flippant. And her revenge on one of the men responsible for all the horror… whilst creative, felt very impersonal. It felt like the author just wanted to pay homage to Hostel? These moments should have carried far more weight.
The concept was there, but the execution left me wanting something deeper, heavier, and more honest than what we got.
Moral of the story: Trauma shouldn’t be pushed aside for plot lines.
Satan’s Vessel by Adeline Franklin is a deeply emotional, powerful, and healing story.
I found myself reading this book in multiple sessions, often needing to pause to process what was unfolding.
𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐠𝐨? Absolutely. 𝐒𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐈 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭? Because I was experiencing my own moments of breaking, healing, and restoration.
Ryn, the protagonist, is incredibly resilient, facing crushing challenges and grappling with her sense of purpose. 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑲𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒏.
Kaden embodies the ultimate book boyfriend: brooding, protective, fierce, yet deeply loving.
Did the ending ruin me more than expected? Absolutely it did. It’s not what I envisioned, it’s not what I wanted. BUT, it was what was needed for Ryn and Kaden.
Their time together is short lived, but it’s forever.
It was heart breaking yet passionate, painfully raw but hopeful. The emotions written into this book and the ones it invokes from you are a experience and a half, best to say that's how my heart and soul feel after finishing this.
Ryn is running away from abuse, has been her whole life. She has no sense of safety or security, and her best friend- is an absolute firecracker. Ryn's lack of awareness sadly puts her life at a high risk and she loses herself and it's a traumatic story. Kaden is a whole lot of wrapped up secrets, slightly stalkerish (not complaining) but he fights for her as best as he can. Their time together is short, but their love is forever.
If you love horror in all its forms, this one is for you. But make sure you read the triggers.
This book kept me up until 2am—searching for answers and left with the biggest “WTAF” I’ve ever felt.
Ryn’s story isn’t just dark—it’s pure devastation. A broken past. A heartless ex. Nowhere to go. Then she’s drugged and thrown into a nightmare that steals parts of her she’ll never get back. Marcus? Pure evil. And Kaden—broody, dangerous, always watching. The only one who truly sees her. Always watching. Always waiting. Does he really love Ryn? Or is he almost as sick as Marcus?
This story is raw, painful, and laced with a flicker of hope.
Read it. Let it wreck you. Let it heal you.
Now bring on book two—will Annie get her vengeance? Or will her story be just as soul-crushing as Ryn’s?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Adeline Franklin you are amazing. To write a book that is so raw and powerful. I applaud you.
Satan's Vessel destroyed me. My heart broke for Ryn. The emotional, physical and mental abuse she injured was so devastatingly painful. You placed me inside her mind and I felt every raw, painful, heartbreaking moment of her life. Kaden's depth of love for Ryn has me in awe.
I was enthralled for the very beginning to the very last page.
Please check the trigger warnings as there are many.
After finishing I sat with my hand over my mouth for so long my husband started becoming concerned. I not even sure how to describe how incredible this book was. It's insanely dark like pitch black and heartbreaking. I am emotionally wrecked in the best way possible.
Absolutely loved this book! A book with trauma and revenge…. And an ending that was not predictable like most, I did not see that coming. Thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait to read Satans Demise
What a wonderfully dark story. A combination of Hunting Adeline, Romeo and Juliet amongst other dark tales. Definitely read the trigger warnings if you are wanting to read this story. I loved every second of this book and finished it within a couple of hours 🖤
(NOTE: This review is for the duet, not individual books)
I was blessed to be gifted Satan’s Vessel by a book friend, and I have never been so grateful for my circle. The moment I hit that ending, another friend had already swooped in with book two. Having already read the duet she understood the assignment. Because holy jaw drop, that wasn't a cliffhanger Franklin picked me up and threw me straight over that edge onto jagged rocks.
This duet was something else. Both books sit around 200 pages, so they’re quick, addictive reads. Adeline’s writing is fast paced, punchy, and completely unputdownable. She somehow mixes darkness, banter, romance, and spice like she’s whipping up the perfect sinful dessert. A little twisted, a little sweet, and just enough heat to make you sweat.
Satan’s Vessel, follows Ryn and Kaden. I can’t say much without spoiling it for first time readers, but I will say this: Ryn never really had a chance at a happy life. She was thrown from one traumatic event and horrific person to another, and it was heartbreaking to witness. Kaden, all sexy and broody, had great intentions, but they fell short in the end. Their story was rough, dark, and utterly traumatising. A wild ride that left me needing a breather but also, the next book in my hands immediately!
Now let’s talk Satan's Demise, because Joey and Annie completely owned me. That slow burn? Pure torture. I was practically clawing at the pages. But when it hit, it hit. Dom Joey had me ready to drool all over the book and I needed more! I'll be honest I was nervous for a minute thinking book two (Satan’s Demise) was going to pull another heart shattering stunt, but thankfully Adeline redeemed herself. And that full circle ending.... Absolute perfection! (If you know, you know).
There were some moments that had me laughing out loud "I tried to help her then I thought fuck this bitch and pushed her down a set of stairs.” AND “If at first you don’t succeed, it’s only attempted murder.”. There were moments that had teary eyed, and others that had me grinding my teeth and sneering like a wild animal.
This duet delivered everything: chaos, heart, laughs, spice, and that perfect balance between dark and delicious. I’m officially hooked on Adeline Franklin’s writing and I’m crossing my fingers for a Devil spinoff because I’m not ready to leave this world yet, and he seemed like a good time in the epilogue.
Blessed with good book friends who never steer me wrong when it comes to great reads.
First off, a shout out to Adeline Franklin for writing such a dark and amazing book.
I did read the triggers for this book, but that didn't stop me from reading such a well written book. The prologue hooked me, and damn this book was full of raw emotions, and you could feel it with every page you read.
My heart ached for Ryn in this book to what she endured throughout the entire book.
This was such a raw book to read and follow the story of what happened to Ryn and what she went through. By the end of this book, she definitely found her confidence, which was dark but so good.
Please read the trigger warnings for this book as there are quite a few and definitely don't want anyone to end up in a panic attack or something when reading this book. It's very dark, but it is also an amazing book. Read at your own discretion.
I will add the content warnings below.
This story, while entirely fictional, is inspired by real events. Please take the following warnings seriously, as your mental well-being is important.
This narrative contains themes of abuse, manipulation, grooming, sexual assault, drug use, graphic sex, explicit language, violence, domestic violence, kidnapping, tor-ture, murder, rape, erotic choking (incl. non-con), self-harm, suicide ideation, injury, gore, and blood. It also depicts psychological and emotional trauma as well as graphic depictions of physical and sexual violence. These topics may be distressing or triggering for some readers. Proceed with caution and at your own discretion.
Holy wow—that prologue had my heart racing. From the very first pages, it grabbed me and refused to let go. That small taste at the beginning was all it took to hook me into this relentlessly dark, page-turning read.
Make no mistake—this story is heavy and unapologetically dark, so please check the trigger warnings before diving in. This book was not what I expected at all… and somehow, that made it even better. It’s raw, brutal, and emotionally devastating in the best and worst ways.
The ending? Absolutely heart-wrecking. Be warned—there is nothing happy about this book, and when those fleeting moments of light do appear, they shine all the brighter because of it. Beautifully tragic, haunting, and unforgettable. I’m holding onto hope that justice will be served in book two—because after that, it’s desperately needed.
