Slay Less: Anniversary Edition

Rate this book
“Come play with us, Delaney…” Laney is my everything. Her smile became my obsession and when someone else threatened to take her from me, take her innocence, I took him out of the picture. They separated us, in hopes that our desires would fade, but the longer we stayed apart, the stronger my obsession grew. I have one chance to show her what we could be, and if I have to slaughter everyone in my path to do so… so be it.
Stopping home for a night, Delaney sees Priest, her stepbrother, for the first time since a suspicious and horrific murder occurred five years ago. He’s sinfully handsome, and ink covers his tight muscles, tempting Delaney to touch something she’s always been told was wrong; and yet, she invites him to join her at the Vincent hotel, where they soon find themselves trapped by the weather, their own forbidden feelings, and a murderer on the loose. Memories are resurfaced, ghosts are everywhere, and deaths are aplenty when your psycho, hot, inked, stepbrother is afoot. Slay Less is a forbidden stepbrother m/f horror erotic romance.

Growing up with a teenage mom who insisted she be raised knowing all about 80’s and 90’s pop culture, Chicana author, Tylor Paige, should have known she’d inevitably write books inspired by that. The fun (rockstars), the hot (Goblin Kings), and the scary (Slashers).

When she’s not writing about girls railing the villains, she enjoys watching horror films, sewing, comic books, and spending time with her writer tribe, Michigan Romance Writers.
At the time of this update Tylor has now written and published Ten full length novels, and is currently pursuing a career in horror romance, where, honestly, she should have been in the first place.

Four years after last seeing her stepbrother, Delaney Duvall, returns home after a travel mishap. Scheduled for a writer’s retreat at The Vincent, an infamous hotel known for its spooky happenings, she takes Priest along after her roomie bails.

I really wasn't entirely sure what to expect out of this one, but it exceeded my expectations. Forbidden romances are my favorite, particularly the stepbrother trope. Combine that with all the steam and the twists and turns with the paranormal mystery, and you've got an edge-of-your-seat, what-the-hell-is-going-on and what-is-going-to-happen-next thriller!

I enjoyed a good step-sibling taboo romance, and I loved it. The mystery, tension, and sorta bullying from Priest had me loving every moment!!

I'll be honest Delaney was a dumb teen back in the day wanting to date an old man when she was only 15, and dude was like in his 20s. Glad Priest did what he had to do to protect his girl, even if that was the moment they both got sent away. Now it's present time, and Delaney is an inspired writer who is headed to a retreat but a friend canceling, and a snow in with your stepbrother has things going wired.

We have ghosts, murders, and some sets of twins and not a good kind. Plus, some other things are happening in the hotel that has Preist and Delaney going through it.

I'll be honest I was enjoying this book until the 73% mark.. then 2 things started going downhill for me. One was the pace, and what was happening that made me go what? Why? Huh? The other was off page we have Priest being this ott obessed guy with his Laney, but in a flashback scene, he said he bedded so many nurses.. 😕 and picture them as Laney, which made me lower my rating. It wasn't for me.

Ow/Om drama, sorta cheated (H was possed and i guess ghost fucked h.. depends on how you see that), drama, sexy times, Virgin gal no manwhore

This is an ARC review.
This book was crazy, and I mean that is the best way possible. It had so many twists and turns I didn’t know if I was reading a book or watching a car race. I loved the characters, they were so well written! All the side characters were great. Tylor is brilliant, her books are dark, spicy and oh so twisty!

2.5 Stars rounded down.

I didn't hate this, but I decided to dnf it at 76% after the FMC went with a male character to a random room by herself after he had already tried to sexually assault her earlier in the book. I decided at that point that I had had enough of her. She was so dumb and cringey (& too stupid to live). In the beginning, she was so desperate to sleep with the one guy that it was embarrassing. I also didn't think this needed to be influenced by two separate horror movies (Halloween & The Shining). They give off vibes that are so different. I also didn't love the writing to begin with. I might have stuck around to finish it if it was better. It sometimes seemed like descriptions were missing from scenes, so it felt disjointed.

I probably should have known I wouldn't love this when in the first chapter, to illustrate how popular the heroine was when she was 15, she received like 13 candygrams when all of the other girls were apparently lucky to receive one. I guess she was supposed to be special.

I'm definitely disappointed, though, because I love the stepbrother trope and I'm always here for an obsessive antihero.

UNHINGED

Man was Slay Less, unhinged, and I was HERE. FOR. IT! Tylor did an amazing job writing horror romance with the Forbidden step-brother trope, unaliving, and spicy as hell intimate scenes. This was another amazing story in the Final Girls series!

I was provided an ARC of this title for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Tylor Paige knocked it out of the freaking park with this one. The second standalone in the Final Girls series STANDS. ALONE. In the best possible way. Slay Less has so much of a different feel from Slash or Pass, but still gives all those whorror vibes that we all fell in love with reading the first book.

This is giving very psychological thriller meets slasher and I’m every bit of the way here for it.

Laney is headed away for a writing retreat, but a nasty storm changes the plans of her intended roommate for the trip last minute, leaving her in need of a companion to join her and split the costs. Priest hasn’t seen or spoken to Laney in years, but happens to be in the right place at the right time, and offers to help out his little sis— oh yeah, did I forget to mention they’re step-siblings with a dark and secretive past? Off they go to the Vincent, an advertised as haunted hotel, where chaos, murder, and spicy masked shenanigans ensue.

Tylor tells you from the jump exactly what you’re dipping your toes in, so pop yourself some corn and settle in for another unputdownable fast-paced, spicy and kinda unhinged slasher book.

Thank you to the author for blessing my eyeballs with this book.

Delaney Duvall and Priest Duvall. Delaney and Priest were raised together as step siblings. When they were younger, Delaney (12 or 13 at the time) was talking to a 25-year old man. Priest realizing this was a pedo decided to take matters into his own hands and protect his sister. Years later after escaping the asylum he was forced into and Delaney is back they take off to a hotel in New York. They are at a writers retreat with Delaney being an aspiring author and Priest is an editor. Tensions are high because Priest has always had a thing for Delaney and she is determined to lose her v card to an author at the retreat. The hotel is not what it seems and there are ghosts determined to make them stay.

I really enjoyed this book. It was addicting Priest was a GOD among men. I swear. How possessive he was about Delaney…. Swoon! The environment of the book really added to the appeal. It was like I was reading/watching a horror movie. It was just so good. The spice was also HOT especially when they kept calling each other Brother or Sister. (THEY ARE NOT RELATED!!) Check your triggers before reading this book though because it is definitely not for the faint of heart.

When Delaney was younger, her and her step-brother were sent away for reasons she didn’t understand and hadn’t seen each other or spoke since. Now, Delaney takes a trip back home before heading to The Vincent for a writer’s retreat when she learns her best friend can’t make it and Delaney can’t foot the bill herself. Her step-brother, Priest, also happens to be at their parent’s home and agrees to go in her friend’s place and cover costs.

Once they get to the Vincent, Delaney makes it known she’s a virgin and is ready to throw herself to Moth, one of her celebrity (we’ll go with that) crushes. But Priest has other ideas in mind, but when weird things start happening within the Vincent, it becomes harder to tell what is truth and what is something more sinister and supernatural.

This book exceeded every expectation I could’ve possible conceived. I was enthralled. I ate every. single. line. This book took twists and turns that I didn’t fully see coming. There were parts that made my pulse spike. I love horror movies and this felt as if I was transported into the center of one. I’m ready to reread it already.

What the hell was all that? I mean the mmc already out of his mind, but the fmc not having a mind of her own and just dragging herself around like a puppet was just annoying to read. Took so much out of me to finish this, and at some point near the book it just felt like she was a toy with no feelings, nothing. Not to mention, the second half book is just no plot just them sleeping with each other out of oblivion?? First book of the series was so so much better, had redeemable character and even though the characters and storyline was questionable, AT LEAST THE FMC HAD A BRAIN OF HER OWN.

She does it again! Tylor Paige's writing is awesome and she does masked men so well. This book is a little all over the place but in a VERY good way. It gives out the shining/Halloween vibes mixed with American horror stories. I love it. It was an awesome roller coaster and the whole story was pretty cool. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time it was a total page turner. I'm totally loving this series. If you like very dark romance mixed in with Halloween movies this series is for you. It was a crazy one but so worth it. Priest *drools*.

This will not be to everyone’s tastes so please check out the TW’s before diving in, to this dark, forbidden Horror story.

Checked out the TW’s and still here…this plot was well thought out and executed to perfection - I couldn’t put this down I literally read it until I finished.

This delightful horror erotica mash-up is a combo of Michael Myers & The Shining !
This fast-paced horror story has plenty of 🔥🔥🔥
Delaney, aka the virgin FMC
Priest, aka the Michael Myers mask wearing, un-aliving stepbrother that's in 'head over heels' love /lust with Delaney
He has some serious touch her & 💀 vibes!
Toss in a snowed-in week at a haunted hotel & things get mighty bloody!
There's ghosts, and there is a set of twins - but these arent creepy little girls, these twins are men with dark BDSM vibes.

Slay Less did not disappoint!
I enjoyed this book even more than the 1st Final Girls book - Slash or Pass ( which was absolutely fantastic!!)
The characters & side characters are well written. The plot has twists & turns and the spice level is definitely hot!
Give this one a read ASAP!

Someone please just bundle Priest up in a smexy lil package, bow and all and pop him on my doorstep in Aussie! 🥀

Slay Less is a fun slasher fic with a good amount of forbidden erotic horror thrills and paranormal mystery chills to keep a girl warm at night! If it’s at all possible, I enjoyed this second book in the Final Girls series even more than the first.

Think AHS meets Halloween and then has a stay at The Overlook Hotel— Shining style. Yes! 🙌🏻

In Final Girls tradition, there’s a k!let on the lose.
This time round there’s a possessive and obsessive stepbrother who at a young age k!lls to protect “his” Laney which results in the two promptly being separated.

Fast forward several years and they reconnect, Priest is still a psycho— but now add tats and way more brooding obsessiveness and a whole slew of d3aths. There’s forbidden smutty delights and haunting traumas amidst a creepy assed hotel that will make the slasher/horror devotees out there squee and I promise, you’ll wet your panties one way or another😝

Tylor Paige is just raising the bar with each publication at this point!
Not gonna pop ya spoiler cherry, so just jump on that train enjoy the ride.

Whoa, just when you think there can’t be something equally as phenomenal as Slash or Pass, Ty Paige comes out with SLAY LESS.

I had no idea what to expect, and what I thought was coming was my delulu talking.
Because each twist left me mouth open, staring at the screen like woah. Did that just happen?

“I love that I did this to you. I wish it wasn’t as dark. I want to see your pretty pussy, dripping for me. How does it feel, to know your big brother caused you to feel this good?”

Suspenseful, thrilling, spicy, and overall a 10/10 read for me.

"Are you scared you'll like me more than anyone else touching you? Does it frighten you to think it could have been me all along?"

Priest is my favourite, unhinged, over the top, he can do whatever he wants to me. 🧎‍♀️🥵

Masks anyone?
The Vincent hotel is now a desired destination for me to visit, because it felt like I was transported within the pages of this book.
As a massive slasher fan, I am more than excited for this series, because they deliver on everything I could ask and more!

It surpassed every expectation,
After all who doesn’t love a morally gray - OTT/P0ss€ss!ve
Each book stands on its own, and trust me when I tell you - you definitely want to read the entire series if you’re a fan of those things.

This is a perfect blend of horror/slasher & mix some well written spice ❤️

Michael Myers / The shining + spice? Ummm...yes please!
I waited for this book and when I got it I devoured it. Sure, I had to stop to maker dinner and eat it...but as soon as I could I finished it. So that was me reading at 2AM. It's ok though, because this book was great.

It was exactly what it claimed to be: a fast paces, absurd horror story. Add to that the trigger warning list and spice and you have yourself a pair of interested eyes: mine! Slay less did not disappoint. The writing was fun, the plot was entertaining and the spice was spicy. I loved how parts of the Michael Myers and The Shining were mixed in this story. It was a good slasher story and as soon as I can get the paperback it will be shining (see what I did there 🤪) on my trophy shelf.

Loved it.

In this book you'll find:
🖤 Forbidden, erotic horror romance
🖤 Michael Myers / The shining vibes
🖤 Step siblings
🖤 Step brother MMC
🖤 FMC writes romance
🖤 Haunted hotel
🖤 If I can't have her, no-one can
🖤 Primal
🖤 🪢 stay while I do things 😏

Thank you to Tylor Paige for the ARC of Slay Less, any and all opinions given are my own.

Slasher themed erotic horror isn’t a niche I thought I needed, but Tylor Paige has now filled it twice with amazing books. Slay Less is perfect for those that love The Shining and the Halloween franchise.

I loved Delaney, she was such an innocent lass at the beginning but by the end was a sex craving fiend who stopped putting others opinions above her happiness. While also being genuinely frightened of the happenings of the hotel and Priest. Her background on the last four years of her life was interesting to learn in the spurts we got. It solidified the traumatized memory she has and how that would affect her in different situations.

Priest was one of the best MMCs I’ve read in a while in darker romances. His singular focus was protecting Delaney from others, even if a bit selfishly but hey we love a selfish “only I can touch you” guy. As things pick up you also see more and more of his background from the same time frame as Delaney, and it explains things a bit further than her perspective does. Priest was the center of any and almost all funny moments I found within the story, purely out of his exasperation sometimes. The way he reacts to scenarios was endearing, funny and hot all at the same time.

So in true Shining fashion, you are left wondering for a good chunk, are they ghosts? Is the MC losing their grip on reality from being in the hotel so long? I was honestly genuinely frightened at some points, looking around making sure I was in fact alone (I do not want to know more about the twins please and thank you. What we got was enough ;-;). Overall she captured the essence of what makes the Shining a good horror story, as well as the tension of the Halloween franchise as well.

Tylor has done it again! The Final Girls books are 90s shlocky cult-horror made.. uh paper. I’m not sure that worked as an analogy but whatever. If you grew up reading Point Horror and watching terrible but brilliant horror movies and loving them, you will love these books. It’s all of the above but with added sm*t and what on earth could be wrong with that? Nothing, I tell you! Absolutely nothing.

Slay Less is Halloween meets The Shining with a faint hint of maybe, Midsommar (in that everything and everyone seems normal and fine but nothing is either of those things) Our FMC Laney, is actually more than a tad annoying but she works it and you end up just accepting that she is who she is. Our MMC Priest is.. well, he could don a mask and slowly chase me anyway. Phew. 🥵 The spice is spicing and the plot.. well the plot is fully ridiculous but that’s fully true to the genre it’s inspired by.

You need to go into these books with your tongue firmly in your cheek, they are deliberately designed to be a bit silly and irreverent. They’re fun, daft and funny all with added spice. If you’re looking for a fun time, and you live for cult horror movies, you won’t go wrong with these books.

Bee: There were so many twists and turns to this story that I felt like I was watching a movie. And I loved it. I really liked the setting of this, a spooky haunted hotel with a vengeance. Even more so, I liked how there were characters who made the scenes more realistic. For a Final Girls themed book, this had everything you'd want. The horror, the eerie vibes, a masked man ® The one thing l do wish was to see a little bit of what life was like for both MC's directly after the hotel.
Nik: I ate this one up so quick! I love that I got both my horror and romance fix in the same book. It felt like I was watching a horror movie and I loved that vibe. There was a lot going on plot wise and left me feeling discombobulated, which I honestly think works for this book. I do really wish it was longer and we got to explore the hotel itself more in depth. But I enjoyed this one, dunno what that says about me but hey! ® Big fan of Priest and would love to see more of his backstory.

“Rule 43-Delaney It’s okay to fuck the slasher if he’s your stepbrother.”

Slay Less by @tylorpaige_author

Step siblings? Spice so damn hot I had to stand in front of a fan? Yes and yes. Priest calls her little sister and Laney calls him big brother. 😮‍💨 Michael Myers mask while unaliving and fucking…!? Blood, gore, murder, ghosts, haunted hotel, ‘paint it red’, sacrifices? HELL FUCKING YES!

There is so much in her that had me kicking my feet like a school girl, sitting straight up and saying WTF, then laughing hysterically (“Hey you fuckers! You killed me!”🤣) and wet in all the best places (possessed Priest, hello daddy😈).

Read it. Just do it and thank me later.

This book was completely insane in the best way. It has a ton of wild spice and all the twisty horror sensations you could ask for. Without a doubt, Rule 52 is my favorite (I'm here for the eroticism, after all), but I also loved/hated Rule 22 -- What a mind-fuck! At first, Delaney made me roll my eyes, but knowing her past from Priest's perspective helped me understand her mental state and how easily she can be manipulated. I am obsessed with all of the beautifully twisted erotica; the "Halloween" and "The Shining" vibes were felt throughout the book. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the side characters and ghosts and the roles they played with the haunted hotel, but what really kept me reading was the Michael Myers mask; I was unable to put this one down.

I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC of Slay Less and I’m so glad I did!

This book is a wild ride from start to finish, there are twists and turns you aren’t excepting and never see coming. The spice is everything you need and more. By the time you finish the book you will be thinking what the fucking just happened? JUST LIKE WATCHING A TRUE SLASHER MOVIE!

Overall I loved this book, it was a great read for me. I just found Laney to be slightly whiny and annoying, but I mean we all are especially in our internal monologue so I can’t hate!

I love a good step brother/step sister book. This is not it.

Delaney is a child. She's selfish, immature and desperate. Four years ago her step brother, Priest was sent away to school. Now they are reunited and heading to a writing retreat. Her only goal is to sleep with some guy. Not actually write.

Priest is obsessed with Laney. He's also screwed up mentally. They are a match made in hell

The hotel was similar to The Stanley hotel. It even had twins. I should have stopped at the 50% mark. Instead I pushed through.

Their goal is to get out alive. I hope they don't.

There are better step sibling books out there.

I enjoyed this one! Not as much as Slash or Pass. I love the taboo love story and at first it was super hot and sexy but the way the MFC couldn’t seem to grow up for 1 minute and think like an adult was annoying. I understand the concept — she’s supposed to be innocent and naive. I am not a fan of it I think personally — she could have easily been able to save herself but she purposely acted like a child. This is more of a 3.5 rating for me for those reasons but I’m rounding up. I just like when the main character is a bit more self efficient I guess? 🤷🏽‍♀️

The dynamic between Priest and Laney. The Michael Myers mask. And the nods to The Shining. It was everything my dark romance, horror, and gore loving heart could ask for.

I’m not normally one for step-brother reads but how protective Priest is just 🫠

This story is full of so many twists and turns and definitely kept me hooked.
