Wayward Sons #5

Hero Worship

Rate this book
They say beauty is a weapon. I've perfected it as an art form.

I'm Xander Laskin—vigilante, lethal seducer, and absolutely obsessed with my new handler. Ash Valentine is everything I never knew I ex-FBI legend, iron-willed disciplinarian, and a man who's about to discover he isn't as straight as he thought.

Our mission is infiltrate fashion icon Avery Roche's inner circle and expose a killer who turns beautiful boys into preserved art. Playing newlyweds should be easy—I'm excellent at seduction, and Ash... Well, let's just say his possessive streak isn't entirely for show. But when we discover Roche is keeping the child of a Russian crime boss as their latest muse, the stakes become deadly personal.

I've spent my life using beauty as armor, turning heads while hiding knives. But Ash sees past my careful masks, past the dresses and deadly grace, to the broken parts I thought no one could want. As our fake marriage ignites very real passion, we're both discovering that some boundaries are meant to be crossed.

One thing is by the end of this mission, he'll be mine completely. He just doesn't know it yet.

Hero Worship is the fifth book in the Wayward Sons series, which follows the Laskin brothers as they battle their inner demons and find love. This is a dark romance with dark themes intended for adult audiences.

To be honest, I struggled a bit with the first part, with Ash hesitant about his attraction to Xander and a lot of internal dialogue with little action. Once the characters got that part sorted out and the complicated Paris mission started, the story became really enthralling. Xander's gender identity was particularly well written and much appreciated by this non-binary trans reader.

How does each one of these books keep getting better?! Please excuse the two reviews in as many days because I need to wax poetic about this author's writing again. I swear the reviews for this series are some of the longest I write but it's because there's so much to say about each book and each one is so complicated and good!

I truly think these are dark romances at their absolute best. With consent forward plotlines and characters who try their absolute best to treat their partners with love and respect. They blend darkness with hope and strength and absolutely shine.

Ok on to the specifics. I wasn't expecting to like Xander as much as I did. I feel like before their book we hadn't gotten to see a lot of their personality, so he felt unfamiliar to me as I went in. But from nearly their first chapter I liked them as an MC and wanted him safe and loved and cared for. Xander is non-binary with he/they pronouns, this is an MX romance, and I loved how their identity was such an integral part of the story.

And let me just tell you the spice was SPICY. I was blushingggg 🫢 dang Ash and Xander ok I see you.

Also LOVED how despite Ash being the dominant one he was so intentional and careful about doing things correctly their first time. And he was so respectful of Xander's identity despite not really understanding at first, he took the time to ask questions and made it so clear he loves and respects them as a person and actually cares about wanting to understand them and what makes them who they are.

And Misha 😭 oh my god my heart. I might have been more invested in his future than Xander and Ash's to be honest. I was 100% binge reading just to make sure he turned out ok. I if/when he gets a book I will be binge reading the heck out of it.

FYI the case in this one was pretty gruesome. I found my stomach turning at times just from the sheer horrific nature of it. Not violent detail but the concept is pretty dark so be aware of that and mind the trigger warnings as always. Obviously the book is about taking down the bad guys so they get what's coming to them but you still have to read about it before that happens.

Ok I feel like I've gone on long enough about this one. I'm telling you, this series isn't one to be missed. It has something for everyone and is so well done. February is knocking it out of the park with these reads.

A MX Dark Romance with ex-FBI agent x beautiful vigilante, Age gap (~20yrs), Mental health/illness rep (BPD), Pretend marriage, Action... & It's sweet & steamy af with Daddy kink!
It's been so exciting waiting for the X-triplets books 1-by-1 lol. Loved Xander & Ash, read my #ARC in 9hrs over 2days. Bit of repetition tho!

Xander Laskin (He/they) is flirty, self-assured, defiant & graceful, has Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) & abandonment issues. X is non-binary with a fabulous fashion sense, martial art prodigy & adept in using beauty as weapon!
Ashley Valentine (42, double divorcé) is commanding, careful, protective & possessive with rough edges. An ex-FBI agent's need for justice & an offer he couldn't refuse. But it came with a pretty complication that made him rethink his binary overlook of life.

After the last Laskin case, A+X meet again... But this time both working for X's dear dad 😆. Before case tho, there's lot of "training" 🤭, X is right —Ash is daddy Dom material 😩. X's fears made me ache 🥺. Once A's walls are down... It's so freaking sweet & hot!! Pretending Husbands for Paris Case? OMG 🥵🥵. Marking kink for win!

Many lines/phrases were repeated SO many times. It happens a lot in 1st half, not as much later thankfully. For 1 example, I don't need to know of A's sexual revelations more than twice 😆. Ash's POV switches "He" to "They" for X on random, which was curious to me as I haven't read many NB MCs books.

All the case investigations & action was fun, not as personal as previous books but still dangerous & high stakes. The ending's lovely, I'd've liked to see Ash interact with more of X's family as bf tho. We ended up with a new Laskin here, yay!

P.s. The author posted the repetition were due to an old file version, which will be corrected on Live version, so it's cool.

Story Ratings:

POV: 1st person, Dual POV
1) Enjoyed? —> Yeah 5/5 if no repetition.
2) The Characters: 5/5
3) Top feels: 😯😅😏🤭🥺🥵😆😍😥🤔🥵😂🥰😤😳🥰🙌😁
4) Steamy scenes: 5/5
5) Levels: Cute+Swoon: 4.25/5
Angst: 2.5/5
Dark: 3/5
6) Creativity + world: 4.7/5
7) Plot arc: (Eventual Sweet Love, Vigilante) 4.5/5
8) Writing style + pace: 4.2/5

I've enjoyed each book in this series for one reason or another. I like L. Eveland's writing style. With just enough humor to cut through the dark and gritty horror. I like this mix of romance and horror because those are the genres I read the most. In this story The MMC's are Xander [non-binary, trained killer, seductive] and Valentine [former FBI, straight male on his way to a bi awakening]. Xander has Boarderline Personality Disorder. As a peer support specialist working at a mental health clinic. I heard things first hand and the depiction in this book was spot-on. I would have to admit personality disorders are the hardest to treat and I've seen a lot of what goes through Xander's head IRL. It is scary to think people live with those thoughts daily. The pairing of such a volatile, needy personality and a stern, logical mind was very new to follow. I think I've read other romances with a person with BPD traits but it's never explicitly stated. The main story of them hunting a psychopath is nothing new for the Laskins [or in this case the triples bio dad and the Lucky Losers]. I did enjoy the hunt. I like seeing the set-up, the action, and aftermath. These stories remind me of a really good action/horror flooded with xxx porn scenes *chuckles*. I loved the images of Xander in these slinky outfits with weapons hidden in them like a true femme fatale.

I have really enjoyed this series, but this one just didn't do it for me. Unfortunately, one of the main characters is "fluid" which is fine, except every other sentence made sure to use he/him as well as they/them in the same sentence. Like, I get it, but it was just overkill and turned me off to the point I had to give up on it. Hoping the next installment goes back to the way of the previous books.

I love the Wayward Sons series. Like so freaking much. And I was hella excited to get to dive deeper into Xavier’s psych and get to really see what makes him tick

Xavier is one of the troubled triplets who has his vices to try and cope with his traumas. I.e drugs, sex, putting himself in bad situations. Enter Ash, our forced into retirement FBI agent that Xavier has put his sights on. They get to go undercover for a mission and take their cover more seriously than intended. So they fuck and fall in love, but it’s absolutely wonderful, and becomes so much more.

I love the exploration of sexuality brought forth in this book. The discussions of they/them. What it means to the characters and displaying a representation of how it might play out in someone’s daily life. But also how it can affect and be handled by a loving partner. Serious kudos for how it was written and approached.

The only real thing I struggled with was in the beginning of the book Ash’s chronic leg injury is such a big deal, but then it kind of just isn’t? Like after a certain point it isn’t really mentioned and so big the things they do I really would have thought the injury should have made a definite impact. But maybe I’m being picky.

Overall I highly recommend this, it’s top tier right up there with the other Sons. And of course Eveland knows how to write a sexy scene, and this is by no means lacking.

Body and soul я ненавиділа настільки ж, наскільки любила Vicious cycle.
Тіпа, раніше ця вся історія з небінарними просто didn’t make sense to me.

I was really looking forward to Xander’s book. But I feel like he was let down a bit.
I experienced something which I haven’t yet in this series— boredom. The first 40% of their relationship was so repetitive that I was tempted to skip ahead. There were spelling mistakes and missing words. I feel like this book felt so rushed at times.

The second half of the book, however, was much better. Here we start getting into the main story, and Xander and Ash go on their mission to save Misha and stop Roche. This is where it gets into the details like the previous books before it, and the dark side of Xander and Ash comes out. I loved Xavier’s arrival, but I was glad when Xander made him see that he was a little controlling, even if it was out of love. I’m glad he redeemed himself at the end by bringing Algerone down a peg or two.

The story was fun in a creepy way, and yeah, the second half made the book. I’m glad I persevered.

I am not sure what it was about this book but I found the first 50% really hard going.
I got fed up of Xander going after Ash and Ash dawdling about whether he was bi / gay or not.
It was a slog to get through it. It did pick up after the mid point when they got to Paris and then the last 20% or so was really good. Maybe it was just too long and alot could have been cut out.
I also have to say I am not really into men wearing dresses / lace panties etc.

Book 5 in the Wayward Sons series, and I didn't think I could have a favorite, but as of now, this is the one. Xander and Ash were the perfect match, each needing each other in different ways and completing each other perfectly. The spice was hot, as ever. And I can't wait to start Xavier's book next and see what the Laskin family is up to next.

Hero Worship is the 5th book in the Wayward Sons series. This book could be read as a standalone but in my opinion this series is best read in order. This is the story of Xander and Ash. I really love this series and all the Laskin brothers. This book has it all, action, romance, and a great plot. I loved everything about this book. I would definitely recommend this book and series as 5 star reads.

I am giving this a 4.5. I think this actually may be my favorite of the wayward sons series or at least a tie for body count. I was really excited to read Xander's story as their appearances in previous books just made them larger than life and I was just wanted to their story because I wanted to know more about them because each member of this family is either unhinged or damaged in some way and L. Eveland finds a way to give them a partner to meet their needs without trying to change who they are as a person and that's what happened here, and I loved Xander and Ash together. This book was so hot and spicy but also caring when it came to these two especially for Ash who I wouldn't stay struggled but had to come to the realization of his Bi-awakening and also trying to understand Xavier and their identity. Yes, he had questions but he never attacked or diminished Xander. Ash was just trying to understand so that he could support and care for Xander. I also loved the plot for the book and how Xander is just trying to prove themselves and almost immediately while Ash didn't necessarily recognize his attraction for Xander, he recognized his skills and talents and saw his potential and wanted to support him. Then they get sent out on a mission together to Paris and it really brought the two together and their chemistry exploded and so did the spice and they eventually fell in love, and I loved it all.
Overall, I enjoyed the characters and the relationship, and it was such a fun book to have read which I probably could have finished in one day as I had trouble putting it down. I can't wait to see what happens next in the series.
This book is about Xander (he/they) the unapologetic partier in their family of vigilante serial killers. They have started working for their biological father working in his elite mercenary program trying to prove themselves. But while it's a little hard trying to stay focused and prove their self when their new handler ex FBI agent Ask Valentine is to so tall and broody and there seems to be something between them if only Ash would admit it. But regardless of the simmering attraction between the two of them they have been given a mission in Paris trying to infiltrate the circle of a fashion icon and the designer who may be pushing the boundaries of art too far with murderous results. But the best way to infiltrate this group and catch this killer is for the two of them to pose as a married couple so they will have to make others think their passionate love affair is for real in order to survive this mission. Which by the end of their mission he intends to prove to Ash that he is their and they are meant to be together.

Hero Worship, by L. Eveland may just be my favorite book and couple from this series. But, then again, I think this EVERY time I read the next book in this interconnected series. Thank you L. Eveland for letting me read this early.

L. Eveland does not just a spectacular job of showing the love and care that the two, triplets have for each other. But, also the budding love that the two main characters have for each other.

L. Eveland takes us on a journey into darkness, that only the love of your soulmate can help you back from in the end.

The way that L. Eveland talks about the mental health issues that, Xander has, which includes, Borderline Personality Disorder, is so real. The way that they show how this mental health condition not only effects the one who had it, but also those around them, without making it out to be that the person with it is "crazy". Even if at times others may see the main character this way.

Mental health issues are ALWAYS a very sensitive topic, and L. Eveland does an amazing job at giving us a view into these conditions, while savely viewing them from a fictional world. As someone, myself who deals with multiple mental health issues, seeing them, or ones like it, handled not with kids' gloves, but with the care and understanding they deserve. All the while, never making those of us who deal with them, feel alone, made fun of, etc.

There are some heavy topics in this book, as there are in this interconnected series as a whole, so DEFINITELY read those tw/cn so you understand what you are getting into. But if you can handle them, you will fall in love with this couple.

Xander and Ash, are not just adorably obsessed with each other, they fit so well together. They really are the kind of couple that fits like two puzzle pieces finally finding each other.

The way that they can so easily play off of each other, or understand what the other might do just by a look, is chefs kiss. 🤌🏻 And this is a couple, that most would not think would fit well together. An FBI agent, and a serial killeresk vigilante. Nah, that totally wouldn't work. He's so much older. He's so much younger. A party boy, who loves drugs and alcohol. But, they do. They fit perfectly together.

I love that Xander is a badass who wears heels and a skirt. I love that they do not fear wearing makeup while taking down the enemy. I love that they are trans nonbinary, and take little to no shit from anyone about it. I love that Xander helped Ash, find himself as well. And how they are both unapologetic about who and what they are, and the love they have for each other.

I HIGHLY recommend reading this one, and all of the books in this interconnected series!

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I’m new to L Eveland’s work and I’m looking forward to reading more. I enjoyed this book and thought that it was another good addition to the Wayward Sons Series. This book/series has similar vibes to Onley James’s Necessary Evils Series but the Laskin brothers’ seem to be a tad more messed up, or maybe they just weren’t as highly trained to act “normal” like the Mulvaney’s were. The dynamic between Ash and Xander isn’t everyone’s cup of team but it totally works for them, so why not? I thought their chemistry was off the charts. I would’ve loved more snippets of the Laskins’ but at least we got quite a bit of Xavier since he showed up in Paris after he couldn’t get ahold of Xander and knew something was up.

He demanded that he be a part of their op so they can get out safely. Wow, the bad guy in this book takes f*cked up to a whole new level and thought that he got a totally fitting end that he more than deserved. I really don’t much like the triplets father aka sperm donor , he views them as possessions that he can do what he wants with. Maybe if he gets his own book I might end up actually getting to know he and liking him. I loved how Xavier showed him that he has a lot of power at his finger tips and demanded he and the rest of his team show nothing but respect to Xander and anyone else who’s gender non-conforming. I’m looking forward to reading Playing with Fire next, as well as more books from L Eveland in the future. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.

I found this book to be a Curate's Egg - Good in parts. There are a lot of small inconsistencies that niggled.

I loved the explanations of Xander's BPD and how it affected him. I loved the explanations of Xander's non binary gender and what it meant to him.

What doesn't work for me is that his BPD would seem to be too severe for him to function effectively as an operative. Someone who spirals as deeply as Xander does in random settings, could not be expected to cope in a stressful situation.

At one point Xavier confronts Xander in a hotel because he hasn't been answering his phone for 20 hours, but a few pages later, it is revealed that Xavier was in travel for 16 hours (inc layovers), so in effect, he started following Xavier after only 4 hours of him being uncontactable. It just doesn't make sense.

Ash talks about Xander getting his nipples pierced and getting rings, then later in the book, he then mentions barbells.

Repetitive use of the phrase "letting real heat colour my voice".

This book felt piecemeal to me, like the scenes were written individually and then plonked together to make a book. Some of the sex scenes felt like they belonged in different parts of the book from where they appeared.

Page 175 Ash says to Xanader " Your test results came back negative...So I'm going to fuck you without a condom."

Then on page 213 Ash says "Fuck, baby, I forgot the condom."

🌶🌶🌶🌶

This is a Dark Romance so please check the TWs before heading in. This is also the 5th book in the Wayward Sons Series. They are stand alones so do not need to be read in order but you do get good background if you do, and I also love this series so I recommend reading them all obviously.

Xander decides to take a job at their biological father's Mercenary company (I'm pretty sure there is a fancier name for it but that's legit what it is 🤣) Their first mission is to take down a fashion designer who is basically making human mannequins
Xanders handler for this mission is none other than Ash the Ex-FBI Agent turn trainer who Xander has not so subtly been lusting after...I am also being purposely obtuse here as to not give anything away.
Xander's non-binary style and androgynous looks is exactly what this designer is going after and puts them directly in the line of fire. Ash has this magnetic connection with Xander as Xander can see the darkness inside of Ash and all his sharp edges and still challenges him. I love how open Ash is and how willing to learn he is instead of staying ignorant. The theme through the book was beautiful but deadly, Soft features bit sharp edges. I loved it all. This book had everything dark plot and spice and growth and I was just here for the whole thing! It's definitely a must!

I do so love the triplets! They have been my favorite Laskins since their first appearance. It’s not often we get a non-binary MC, I love seeing the representation. I feel like I learn something about our 🏳️‍🌈community through books about non-binary and trans people. Xander has a whole passage explaining it to Ash and it was so clear and concise.

Xander is such an amazing character. They have such depth, they’re not just a pretty face or submissive to their daddy, but a human who is waging a war inside of themself. They are not only trying to balance their neurodivergence, but also their place in the world. The family they were born into and the family that raised them. I absolutely loved watching the get stronger throughout this book.

Ash wasn’t a slouch either. His father took up a lot of headspace and Ash was constantly vigilant about crossing a line and becoming like him. The struggle came to a head at the end of the book and he had to let his darker side free. I think the way he came back from it was written well, it wasn’t a switch that flipped, but something he had to work through.

Wayward Sons has been such a ride and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I was entertained by Xander and Ash relationship. From the power-play to the downright trust. The way they knew each other’s flaws, but never judged or used it against one another. How they stood by each other when they were going to fall into chaos, because both knew how to bring each other back. Their intimate scenes were special because it showed how much trust they have, to go into that kind of relationship and to have that kind of ownership. What I like Xander is how he describes being non-binary. And how much they’ve grown as a person. He shows that he is capable of having everything he’s ever wanted. With Ash by his side, they are much powerful together. Ash finally can let the darkness go that’s inside of him. And he knew that he could let it go because Xander it’s the perfect match for his darkness. The overall how he holds himself together as a person is great. The whole family accepts, protects and loves each other and their own ways. I just love that about this family because they will literally drop everything to help each other. I cannot wait to see what else happens in the next book in the series.

I’ve been so excited to read Xander’s story since the triplets were first introduced. After reading Wayward Sons #4 the fact that this book is 200 pages less but feels like a stronger written piece was nice.

We have Xander who is trying to cope with his feelings and trauma using drugs and partying, this much we knew was his personality in the books leading up to it. Ash Valentine is the former detective who takes Xander’s sperm donor up on a job offer now that Valentine’s injury has forced him on desk duty if he were to stay in law enforcement. Very quickly we find these two delving into exploring their romantic feelings for one another. Thankfully, this story didn’t have the struggle with the repetition many authors I’ve read lately have been having. While Xander wasn’t going to handle his issues overnight after beginning his relationship with Ash, I didn’t find any of their problems to be unrealistic, or difficult to read, throughout the novel.

The spice didn't feel out of place and was steamy! I found the tension was believable and all the scenes were enjoyable to read.

I am loving the direction of this series and am very excited for Xavier next!

"He tasted like cherry lip gloss and danger, and I couldn't get enough."
I've loved all this series and Xander's story is one I've been particularly looking forward to. Although all the books in Wayward Sons are dark romance, they each approach that darkness in unique ways, and although a significant part of this book seems quite light (the rapid development of Xander and Ash's relationship, which is thirsty AF from the very beginning) the main plotline was for me the darkest yet, and there was even a scene I practically had to read with my eyes closed - I won't spoil it but be aware there are a few moments here that aren't for the squeamish (and the main evil in the book is seeeeriously nasty). That said, it's a fab book with an enthralling storyline. Xander's struggle with BPD and their non-binary identity (and that of others in the book) are strong themes not shied away from and engagingly written. There's some heavy repetition, particularly in the first half of the book, which is the only reason for me it's not a full 5 stars.

I was so curious about Xander's story. Non-binary people have a special place in my heart. The deep insight into their personality is fascinating. Despite their BPD diagnosis, they manage to open up to Ash. They are brave, courageous, ambitious, dedicated, determined, and beautiful.
Ash is the perfect mate for them. The profiler their bio-father chose to be Xander's handler is determined to make Xander the best version of themself. When Ash lets go of his dark side, he is frighteningly efficient and terrifying.
With this story, L. Eveland once again takes us to the deepest abysses of humanity. They always manage to captivate me with their imagination and each book is so exciting that I literally devour it.
Xavier also gets a lot of space in Xander's book and the complex relationship between the triplets gets more and more interesting. I can't wait to read his story as well.
I recommend reading the TWs.
Highly recommended for lovers of dark romance!

I've been waiting for this book since Ash 1st made an appearance in Vicious Cycle.
I love how this author not only incorporates MM into their writing but all aspects of LGBTQ+. The depiction of Xander in this writing was epically beautiful. Beautifully deadly in his own special way. The advocacy for non binary queer persons isn't something that you get a lot of in contemporary literature, add in the mental health aspect of Xanders BPD and his character was a gorgeous chaotic mess just wanting someone to love him and all his chaos and complexity and he found that love in Ash. Getting to experience Ash falling for Xander was perfectly written and beautiful in its own right as Ash discovers part of himself he didn't even know existed and is finally able to be the perfect "Daddy" that his "Baby" needs.
I really liked that these two had their own story not tangled so much with the Laskins, besides Xavier showing up towards the end. I feel like Xander got the book he deserved after all that he has been through.
Can't wait for Xaviers story next

This story took me some time to get into. Not trying to put anyone off, but I struggled a bit with Xanders issues. I didnt understand them well enough to read as I normally would.

Xander, themself, makes an anology in this story that actually made sense to me. I found some understanding of their mental issues, as for what they dealt with in the airport, if this is what non written characters have to deal with, its disgusting.

As for the story, I couldnt understand what Xander liked about Ash intitally. As the story went on, he was there, in Xanders corner, making the effort to be the one that actually sees them. He catches them when they spiral, Ash gives them a safety net outside of blood or family, someone who wants Xander to succeed.
Xander lets Ash have his darkness, to not hide it away, or be ashamed of something beyond his control. They encourage him to be the best version of himself also.

Love this series, it is so fun to escape into this world! I love the mess they have a gift for creating, getting to know the Laskin families has been fascinating. The world they move around in is dangerous and full of secrets, and I love seeing the larger picture starting to develop across the series. Xander’s story is legit dark, the author really creates an uncomfortable vibe with excellent edgy tension. It’s not all bleak though, the author has an engaging writing style and also fills Ash and Xander’s book with genuine emotion, a bit of sweetness, and a whole lot of steam. This was an absolute page turner, I loved the twisty and twisted plot, and the complex and uniquely lovable characters. This series is excellent, hopefully there’s many more stories to come.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book

From the moment Xander was introduced to Ash in previous books I was looking forward to their connection. Xander is the baby of the triplets, and totally obsessed with Ash, former FBI agent.
I really enjoyed this story and was intrigued with the mission they were being sent on. A fashion designer who turns beautiful boys in to art, well I knew it wouldn't be pleasant. But that wasn't all I wanted Xander to get their man.
Ash was just what Xander need, some one to love and possess them, make them feel as they were the only person in the world. Someone who understood them but on the other hand would not take any nonsense. As for Xander, they made Ash stop fighting who he was and embrace his darker side and I liked knowing more of Ash's backstory. There connection was off the scale and I loved Ash's touch them and die attitude
As with the other books, the mental health issues are handled with sensitivity and as I was reading Xander's story, I was also learning how BPD not only effected Xander but also their close family. Also enforcing how close Xander and Xavier were.
I am not a fashion person, but I was fascinated with the clothes Xander wore especially when they were in Paris on the mission. Description of outfits were in detail and I could close my eyes and clearly image a heeled Xander strolling with confidence wearing satin and lace flowing freely hiding deadly surprises.
With more stories to come Wayward Sons and their spin off stories as at the top of my favourite series

DNF @82% - the writing style is just not for me. I mean, I sort of learned that lesson with this author when I tried their monster series, but I really wanted to like this one. I also thought, since they had some more time as an author under the belt, they would have improved their craft? But every book in this series has been a bit of a disappointment, and I just can't anymore. I stepped away from this book for a while in the hopes that I'd want to go back, but nope. So I'm also DNF'ing the series... and ugh, idk what I'll do with the authors' newer currently-in-progress series, because it looks like my jam. But in the same way the monster series and this one did. I feel like I should just know better and stop picking up their books as they just don't work for me, but then they keep writing things that look like they *should* be good 🤣 Oh well! On to other things...
