School is over. But the adventure has just begun. . . .

Eighteen-year-old Cass Issac doesn’t believe in sticking around. She's had to move a lot due to her dads' house-flipping business—always a different school, always a new friend group. She’s learned there’s no need for drawn-out-goodbyes with people you'll lose touch with anyway. Which makes Grad Nite at Disneyland the perfect way to finish up high school, and have a magical last night with her best friend, Bryony–before she leaves once again.

But amid the roller coaster rides and Cars Land dance party, the night turns into one big disaster. When she meets cute British bassist Freddie Patel, she accidentally ruins his big break. Worse still? Cass gets in a major fight with Bryony. And instead of being able to make a quick exit, she’s thrown for a literal time loop. Which means the queen of ghosting has nowhere to go as she’s forced to relive the most dramatic night of her life, over and over. Now, Cass will have to find a way to make things right . . . or be stuck at Grad Nite forever.

I was going to see if I could get to the time loop portion of this book because I LOVE time loops... But I realized that I did NOT care what happens here or really, I know what will happen and I don't care that it does. She's going to realize that she shouldn't just leave her old friends without saying goodbye and she's going to apologize to everyone and be all "omg, I'm so sorry" and Briony will forgive her and that's it. That's the book.

Do I want her to be more upfront about leaving and at least saying goodbye? Yes. Do I also completely understand why she wants to avoid the teary eyed goodbye only for the people she leaves behind to completely forget about her because "out of sight, out of mind"? Yes. They are only remembering her because they're angry. Had she told them the truth, that she was moving, then they would have just not cared one bit about her at this point. Because friendships fizzle out - especially ones that are 4-6 months long. Like ARE YOU SERIOUS? 16 schools in 4 years, that's a max of 6 months at any one place. Maybe it's because I have had this happen to me, where tearful goodbyes become NOTHING within the next few months or years. It takes serious effort to keep a long-distance friendship and honestly, most teenagers wouldn't do it. These kids are just pissy because she wanted to avoid the sad and move on.

And I don't want to hear all their complaints AGAIN in the next loop. So I'm done.

I received an ARC copy of this book via NetGalley but all opinions expressed are my own.

I love a time loop and I love Disney so when I saw the premise for Gradchanted I knew I needed to read it immediately. I love the journey we see Cass take where she runs into people she’d ghosted from other schools she attended as she’s trying to make sure her unintentional bestie has the best grad night ever. I felt like all the characters, including the side characters we have brief interactions with, are so relatable. Despite not being able to truly understand where Cass was coming from because I have never moved, I kind of get it because there were definitely people I lost contact with over the years who either moved unexpectedly or went to a different school or we just drifted apart due to college. I cannot wait to recommend it to people at work!

This was seriously just so cheesy. One of the stars is for the Disney content alone. I couldn’t get behind the time loop. It just didn’t work for me.

3.75 ⭐⭐⭐

For the most part I really enjoyed the story and the little nuances and the puzzle. I could see little bits of important factors being dropped subtly sometimes, and not-so-subtly other times that it made me roll my eyes hard, and I was slowly fixing stuff into place. I just wish Cass would have gotten there a LOT sooner. God she was frustrating

Cass was quite possibly the worst person I've ever had the displeasure to have read about. I get that she had a lesson to learn, but she was so freaking hard to root for at times! As soon as we got to the park and the tiny revelations started happening, little bits of her backstory, her plan for the future... I was out, she was literally a demon, even Satan would be shocked at her behaviour. Tbh, when she made the wish I hoped it wouldn't work because she didn't deserve it, she was brat and selfish and so freaking ignorant of everyone around her. She literally was describing exactly what was going to happen and needed fixing, but my god, she didn't take any of it in and she had such a victim complex, and I've never wanted to slap a fictional character as hard as I did this girl. I mean, even in like the fifth or sixth time when she met Tabitha, she was so self-absorbed and rude to this poor girl literally having a breakdown, I had to get up and walk away to take a breather...

She only slightly got better with Freddie. I loved the band - obviously barring the other demon of this story - and I liked some of the banter when she was getting to know him, and trying to have fun - she actually had some fire to her when she was trying to help others. I didn't hate her as much when she pulled her head out of her ass, but when we relapsed and she had the self-pitying party in the first aid room for like 8 loops, I was ready to choke her again. I almost quit, 85% of the plan to fix things were laid out for her, she literally had all the pieces, she was just so freaking annoyingly selfish!

The last 25% redeemed itself, I liked when she got her ducks in a row, I liked how most of it turned out, bit bummed we couldn't figure out a better solution to AmyandCarlos, but hey ho, I liked her little speech, just maybe could've been a bit sooner or with more warmth. I was freaking crushed at the half-twist outside the gates, I was like the heck did we go through all of that for you to then do this?? But my face split into a grin at the last chapter. It ended on a cute note, I just wanted her to be better and less demonic for the majority. I fully understood her reasoning for thinking that a clean break in the past might have been ideal for *her*, but it was a extremely shitty outlook to keep going through and the way she was gonna do Bryony like that is when I immediately was like, nah she's dead to me. I liked the concept but the execution could've been a lot better. It made it so hard to like this girl.

Overall, a slightly fun adventure with a bad main character that you only 30% of the time rooted for. I liked Bryony, Freddie and the boys, and Emma K, everyone else didn't really factor in overall, I wanted a bit more time with them, but I liked her discovery journey. And Jesus Christ on a bike, you can't just drop Jonny the kiosk guy on me like that!! I need more answers!

I hope we get some more Disneyland stuff, but maybe more along the lines of the first book. I liked the idea of Disney meets Groundhog Day, just not an insufferably long journey next time?

After reading Promchanted last year, which was Morgan Matson’s first novel for Disney, I was a bit worried that I would have the same reaction to Gradchanted. Promchanted had a great premise, but the writing fell rather flat for me (it wasn’t in the same style as Matson’s other YA novels) and the protagonist was too flawless and not endearing enough to capture my interest in the long run. Gradchanted, however, feels more in line with Matson’s traditional style, though there are still several points that need to be addressed if a third collaboration is to follow.

At first, Cass’s personality comes across as cold and indifferent with respect to the way in which she has handled ghosting her friends after each move. Truly, Matson doesn’t really develop the backstory and hurt Cass claims as reasons for why she continuously chooses to cut off all contact. It’s all just provided as exposition for the reader. Therefore, when she encounters some of her former friends during Grad Night, Cass once again comes across as unlikeable. As someone who moved a lot as a child and teenager, I experienced the same scenarios, either accidentally cutting off all contact, or having relationships and communication slowly peter out. Cass’s deliberate choice to make a clean break just seems very unrealistic. Even as she starts to realize her flaws and attempts to make amends, the way in which Matson describes the process still makes it seem as though Cass hasn’t learned very much. There is no one moment in which Cass truly breaks and recognizes the errors of her ways, which is something each of Matson’s other YA protagonists always experience. That said, Freddie is well fleshed out and surprisingly, all of the supporting characters are too. The plot and the pacing are great, which is a vast improvement from Promchanted.

Therefore, after reading the Disney collaborations and Matson’s prior YA novels, I am now left wondering whether the differences and issues that plague both Promchanted and Gradchanted should be chalked up to something related to the editor and publisher.

Thank you to #NetGalley, Morgan Matson, and the publisher of the book for the eARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Cass Isaac has gotten really good at moving...... and ghosting. She's had to move a lot due to her dads' house-flipping business—always a different school, a new friend group. She’s learned that there’s no need for drawn-out-goodbyes. Especially with people you'll never talk to again. Which is why Cass wants to make Grad Nite at Disneyland the perfect way to finish up high school since she'll be moving again..

The night soon turns into one big disaster. When she meets cute British bassist Freddie, she accidentally ruins his big break, but that's not the worse part. Cass gets in a major fight with best friend Bryony. When she tries to leave Disneyland and this place for good, she’s thrown for a literal time loop. Forced to relive the most dramatic night of her life over and over, Cass will have to find a way to make set things right . . . or be stuck at Grad Nite forever.

A fun and adventure filled YA novel! It took awhile for Cass to grow on me. It seemed like she was always making excuses to her old classmates on why she left and didn't say goodbye. As time went on though, I think she realized what a mistake this was and each time she tried to genuinely apologize and make things better. I loved this book and will recommend it to others.

Author Matson skillfully combines two intriguing structures - repeatedly attempting to complete a video game level and being stuck in a time loop - to tell the story of Cass’s grad night at Disneyland. Cass is planning on a fun last high school night with best friend Bryony with whom she is super close although they have only known each other since Cass arrived at the beginning of second semester. Cass’s dads flip houses and she moves often, so her strategy is to just disappear since she figures that so many long distance friendships would be impossible to juggle. When Cass encounters friends from her past at grad night she’s annoyed and embarrassed when she learns how her disappearance impacted them. Disgruntled, she decides to cut her losses and leave, but each time she walks out the gates, she finds herself walking in and the night starting over again. Readers will keep rooting for Cass as she slowly figures out what she needs to fix before she can “level up” and move on with her life. EARC from Edelweiss.

I recieved a free eARC of this book. Thank you for the opportunity to read it!

Cass has moved a lot in high school. And I mean a LOT. Her dads flip houses, and move to a new one whenever finished. She’s attended 16 high schools. And she’s learned not to say goodbye, just to move on. But she’s finally graduated, and is going to grad night at Disneyland, with her best friend Bryony. It should be the best night ever.

Except…something is wrong. Cass keeps running into people from her past, and reliving mistakes. And she can’t get out. Grad night keeps repeating. Can she right the wrongs she’s made…and connect with a hunky British musician along the way?

This is a light, fun romantic read for anyone who enjoys the genre. It’s a fun book, although a predicable one, and would be a good beach read for anyone who enjoys a clean romance, The Disney setting helps to make it feel very familiar and comfortable—-and where else but Disney should magic happen?

Cass Issac lives her life on repeat even her name is a loop (her name is palindrome, the same forward and backwards). She just graduated high school and she is on her way to move again, her dads move her around a lot. However, she gets one final night in California and it’s at the happiness place, Disneyland for Grad night, more specifically Disney’s California Adventure.
Cass wants one perfect night with her best friend, but be careful want you wish for. She ends up in a time loop to make sure she gets that perfect night.

This was a such a fun read. Time loop stories can get old fast, but I love how this story used it to show the parallels to Cass’s life, how starting new and leaving people behind can be hurtful. Also the romance in this story was so sweet, loved how confident Cass was and how caring our love interest was.

The setting of DCA such a sweet treat, reading the descriptions of the park and the magic there makes me even more excited for my future Disney trips 😆🏰🎡!

3 1/2 stars, rounded up

I was really looking forward to this book because I love Disney, I love time loop stories, and I really enjoyed the first book in this series. I didn’t like this book quiiiite as much though. For starters, the book did very little with the amazing Disneyland setting. Disneyland after dark sounded so cool! I would have loved more Disney elements but there weren’t many at all. I also found the main character somewhat irritating and I didn’t like her dads at all for not understanding how their choices affected her. I was also expecting this to have a plot similar to Promchanted (with the portal to another world with Sleeping Beauty and whatnot) but this book was very different from that. I did like how all the loops came together in the end and everything made sense. I also really like Morgan Matson’s writing (she’s one of my favorite YA authors). I hope she releases more of these Disney stories and does more with the Disney setting in any future installments.

A better read than my last of this author’s, “Promchanted” but I still struggled to get through it.

I’m a fan of time loop stories—“Groundhog Day” is probably the most famous, but I personally love “Happy Death Day,” so I was excited to see where this story would go. God, was this long. The parts that stood out to me were when the main character, Cass, was getting to know Freddie. It was pretty obvious what she needed to do to get out of the time loop, so was she stupid? Why it did take almost 200 pages, out of an almost 400 page book, to make the connection that she needed to make amends for the people she ghosted every time she moved to a new place? The solution was right in her face. Again, this book, much like “Promchanted” has a very immature main character, especially for someone about to graduate high school. Everyone else was somehow more interesting than her. Hell, even Freddie being in the time loop would’ve made for a better plot.

There were a lot of connections that were relatively easy to piece together with each loop, which I didn’t hate, but it took much too long to get there. I don’t think we needed to have 146 time loops here. There was nothing that dire for the story to stretch out that long, unless the author had to hit a word quota. We all suffered if that was the case.

The idea of each chapter being numbered as to what time loop Cass was in was a unique touch, but I think the editors messed up towards the beginning. The numbers didn’t correlate chronologically and she hadn’t even ended up in the loop yet. Sloppy. Also, at one point, Alfie is mentioned as a different name. A lot of missing words, as well, so I think this book needed a better proofreader/editor. That seems to be a trend I’m noticing in a lot of books recently, so it’s not unique to this.

Someone else here mentioned the horrible cover art, and I have to agree. I don’t understand this new trend of what looks like almost AI-generated art covers, (are they done by AI?) but they make every book look the same. I’m at the point where I don’t even want to pick up a book with this style art on the cover. Authors deserve beautiful covers.

I did like that this story had some nods to “Promchanted” in it, so it was all set in the same universe, all centered around Disneyland. Same town, and the same café were used, so that was cool. But, regardless, I don’t think I’ll be reading any more of this author’s work.

Cass is about to say goodbye to High School and her best friend with a grad night trip to Disney, but this trip may not go the way she planned.

Cass has moved a lot due to her parents job and has decided it’s easier to ghost people then deal with goodbyes and not being able to stay in touch. She wants one last good memory with her best friend during their grad night trip. It quickly turns into a nightmare, and instead of escaping she is thrown into a time loop that she has to figure out how to get out of.

This is a fun book to read when planning on going to Disney or before a Grad Night. I loved all the different rides and places mentioned throughout the book. I struggled with Cass’ not understanding the impact of her actions and the time loop felt a bit long, but otherwise enjoyed this unique Disney adventure.

Grad Nite at Disneyland was supposed to be Cass' final celebration with her friends before her family has to move again. When she gets into a big fight with her best friend, she wishes for a way to do the night over. Cass finds herself stuck in a time loop where the night keeps repeating and has to find a way to solve everything and escape the loop. The book takes place in the same universe as Morgan Matson's Promchanted, published last year, and features a small cameo from the protagonists of that book.
This book was a lot of fun. It combined two things I love, Disney and time travel. I enjoyed reading Cass' many, many attempts to solve everything and escape the time loop and I love how everything turned out in the end. I really enjoyed this book and hope Morgan Matson continues with this Disneyland series.

Unpopular opinion: I don't love a time loop BUT I love a Morgan Matson book so of course I had to request this book and it was a delight. I loved the story and the way that Matson wrote a time loop story that was set in one of the most magical places on earth. Cass finds herself reliving her grad night at Disneyland over and over and over again after she makes a wish while leaving one of the most magical places on earth. Cass finds herself on a course to right some wrongs, rebuild some relationships and maybe form some new ones. I devoured this story and I really enjoyed the way that the author had Cass deal with re-do of this one night. This will be a hit with my high school students! Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

If you have to be stuck in a Time Loop, Grad Nite at Disneyland doesn't seem like such a bad place. Which is what happens to Cass, as she runs into people from previous times in her life throughout the park. She spends a lot less time going on the rides than one would expect. Instead, she tries to avoid making the same mistakes over and over, in the hopes of changing the course of the night and breaking out of the loop. It is only when she takes a good hard look at what landed her in the loop in the first place that she has any hope of making it to the next day. I am a huge fan of Time Loop books and this was a great one. Highly recommended for grades 7 & up.

How much do I adore this YA author?

It started with “The Unexpected Everything” (dogs on the cover so a natural choice) then “Since You’ve Been Gone” (daring to live outside the box when your anchor disappears ) and even her children’s book ‘ The Firefly Summer’. So, yeah, you could say I enjoy her writing.

After the fanciful, clever 2024 read of “Promchanted” high expectations for this one.

And, found it just ok. Cass was just not a likable character for me. Yes, I recognize there’s a redemption arc she had to follow but she just didn’t resonate. Then loose ends like the why for AmyCarlos. And not really believable that “if” a teacher would draw ideas from a student shouldn’t there be some monetary recognition or, at least, a written acknowledgement.

I was so excited to read this book. I loved Promchanted, I did not love this book quite as much. However, I did love that Cass was able to find a way to use her time in a manner that not only allowed herself to grow as an individual, but also to figure out not only who she truly was but who she wanted to be. I know it can be hard to be an individual in a family, especially one that moves around so much. How she handled leaving people behind while not ideal was honestly realistic, and I am glad that she was able to deal a little bit with how not only leaving made her feel, but how it made those she left behind feel as well.
Thank you so much to Disney Publishing Worldwide and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this title.

I want more!! Promchanted utterly charmed me, and this was just as adorable and captivating. The Disneyland setting was unbeatable, and I will never ever be able to resist a time loop and someone figuring out what to do and how to be a better person. Cass was a fantastic MC, even though I didn't agree with her past decisions, but I loved her voice and evolutions and the conclusions she came to. I'd be a very happy camper if Matson kept writing these Disney books.

Imagine if the premise of the Groundhog Day movie took place with an 18-year-old female protagonist in Disneyland. It was actually kind of a genius way of getting Cass to grow up and not only face her interpersonal failures but choose what she wanted for her life. But I was getting very sick of the repeated plot points by the end. If you can last until the end, the resolutions are very satisfying.

My opinion of her parents was not great. They should’ve tried to arrange their work in such a way that Cass could’ve had and kept friends, especially once she was older, instead of moving all over the place constantly.

This is a cute, CLEAN, time-loop Rom-Com.
For those in my generation, think Ground Hog Day, but with new high school graduates and set at Disneyworld.

Cass is stuck repeating Grad Night at Disneyworld. She has to figure out what she needs to change to break the time-loop. Is it something to do with current or old friends, or does it have to do with the hot English musician she just ran into (literally, ran into)?

How many re-dos will it take her to figure it out?

I will definitely be purchasing this for my high school library!

✨ So for starters, I liked the writing style and I loved the fact that it’s an innocent cover book that’s actually innocent if you know what I mean.

There was no spice, which is great for someone like me that likes the romance but nothing gross. I’m also a huge Disneyland girlie so that was also another bonus!

Now for the reason I gave it 3 stars, time loop books are hard for my brain to wrap around. I see most feel the same way, but this wasn’t a bad book at all. I really did like the concept , it’s just the time loop aspect is just what threw me off a bit.

Call me crazy, but I like that this wasn’t romance heavy. Or centered around the romance at least. I thought this was going to be a Disney rip off of The Do-Over and I don’t relate to Disney, but I feel like I was so wrong. I loved that it dealt more with friendships and Cass’s bad friend behavior and I was very pleased with the time loops and how they were relayed, as in we knew there were a ton of loops but we didn’t have to live through every single one in nauseating detail. It was a great representation of YA lit. Really pleased to have read this one and recommend it to my students.

Silly & heartfelt & FUN! I need MM to release one of these every year forever because this was so good. I was so proud of Cass -- it’s hard to realize you’ve hurt people & develop that self awareness, & sometimes a time loop is needed. Loved Freddie, loved Bryony & Johnny & Doug (!), LOVED Disneyland. I did love the fairy tale setting of Promchanted but I’m glad the story was actually at Disney in this one. I could feel the magic. ♥

Really fun, full of nostalgia for having grown up going to California Adventure. The setting made the story all that more magical and special.
The first third was a little arduous. I think that comes with the territory of a “Groundhog Day” style book and the repetition. But once Cass hit her lowest point, the book gained some more humanity and sense of reality.
Loved all the characters. And the final time going through everything was very strong.
I’d love more in this series!!
