What do I see when I look in the mirror? I see a girl who just wants to be loved by her family, her best friend and…a guy she thought she’d never go for.
Already a star on the Royal Heights High School Baseball team, James Lawson wasn’t your average transfer student. Even with his ‘new guy’ status, he quickly becomes one of the popular ‘Kings’ at school and that alone should have been the red flag Annabelle needed to stay away from him. He’s arrogant, intense, rude and worst of all he seems like the kind of guy that usually gets what he wants. But the more time they spend together the more it becomes difficult to stay away from him, especially with all the stress her mother is causing her concerning her appearance. As if she didn't already have enough to worry about, she finds out that the popular ‘Queen’ of Royal Heights High had her sights set on a certain popular ‘King’. In Donna Tallins eyes, James was her perfect match, but there was one person standing in her way of high school couple stardom.
And that was Annabelle.
Recommended for ages 17+. Warning contains sexual scenes Young Annabelle, The Truth About James, What My Heart Wants. Book 1, 2, and 3 of the Y.A Series and can be read as a standalone novel
The editing of these books wasn't great. I did still get through them and enjoyed the story line. I'm not 100% sold on James' character and would love to hear more about Dean. I'm looking forward to Jenna's story I'm about to start reading.
There are a few things I really like about this book and there are a few I really do not like.
This book has sexual content even though it is a YA. It should be for mature 17 and up.
I am going to list the Good: I think the characters are interesting. The author portrayed teenagers rather well. Anna, has self-esteem issues regarding her image. James acts like a complete jerk, majority of the book and we finding out it is due to the way his father treats him. I would like the author to explore that relationship more in her next books, because I think it would add a deeper level to James. He can become the byronic-hero rather than the douchebag teenager who gets the girl.
The inner conflict that Anna has and the relationship struggles with her mom are an interesting dynamic. I liked how the author made the Mom an overall extremist whether it be for Anna to eat only health or eat period. I didn't like her Mother, but it helped the reader understanding where the self esteem issues come from.
Some issues I had with the book. There were many errors within text. It was driving me nuts. I suggest next time get a better copy editor.
I really like these books. I really wanted to smack some sense in to anna and I just wanted to smack James for being a grade a douche. I couldn't put it down even at 330 in the morning when i had to be up by 6 for work. I couldn't want to find out what happened to them. I'm glad we are going to get move of Jenna's story I can't wait till the new book in September!!!
I loved this book James is swoon-worthy and Annabelle well I can relate to what she had to go through with the weight loss and loneliness. Jenna is good best friend at times I wanted to kick her in the head along with James and Anna, but Jenna was a true friend in the end. #saraturock
I wish I could take stars away from a story. I just can't even with this book. I skipped pages and pages because the main characters act like a bunch of 12 year olds. Nobody communicates like adults. I had high hopes with all the 5star reviews, but this just wasn't for me.
Omg I really really enjoyed this book... I could relate to Annabelle and her mothers ways... I loved dean and James..... This is defiantly a good read... Very enjoyable
