Really good story

Great story line. My issue was it started out with bit of kink. But that went by the wayside as the guts of the story unfolded. Then to super sweet lovey.

I love all of those story lines but not together.

Would recommend.

Enjoyable book

I enjoyed this book. It wasn’t necessarily what I thought it would be based on the description and it was certainly more angsty than I expected, but it was well written with an interesting storyline and a lovable couple.

Emma Marie Leya has done it again! I could not put the book before finish to read it early in the morning, or rather very late at night.

However, I found it different, more ... less light .... (maybe) than her usual books and certainly darker. Clearly, there are two parts in this book. The first where Martin can no more accept the aggressive and condescending attitude of Stephen and threatens spanking without a radical change of attitude. This part is hot and exciting, corresponding to the style that I like about Emma and we expected they rise above like they were monkeys, even if they are in the office, even if Stephen does not want to risk being surprised by his father, a bastard of the worst kind.

And then we slip into the second part of the book, darker where you learn all the dirt things that his father is able to do both business and towards other persons he considers all below him, even his own son.

Stephen leaves eaten alive by a domineering father, cold and calculating, but thanks to the presence of Martin, he took his courage in both hands and stands against him. Martin is tolerant, well of wisdom and patience, though he doubted his own feelings. But he helps Stephen through everything that happens to him, good or bad. It remains to him, which he would pay with a high cost.

Personally I would have preferred that Stephen's father went to jail more than the end chosen by Emma (hence the missing star), but it's the only complain I have to make to this book and this is only my opinion.

Again, a must-read, a book highly recommended.

I absolutely love Emma’s writing! I really liked this book although the beginning almost made me stop reading.
When Martin challenged Stephen and called him out for being a terrible boss and horrible person to his employees, I cheered him on…however, the spanking punishment was a bit of a stretch for me. It was a bit unbelievable that an employee who hated his boss so much would initiate such a sexual act. I understand it was the start of their sexual relationship and the foundation to the story but it was a little too much.
That being said, I did really like the rest of the story.

Martin was lead a simple life…content to work hard to get what he wanted. He was a bit reclusive and closed off. Stephen was raised by money and social status. He was uptight and self-doubting, always trying to live up to his dad’s unrealistic expectations. He found security in the money he made but really wanted independence from his father. Martin and Stephen really balanced each other well. Once they were able to see past the masks in place and move from the superficial start, they became a beautiful couple.

Stephen’s dad was an insufferable, bigoted homophobe. He stressed the importance of social status and wealth over family and molded Stephen to follow in his footsteps. His role in the book leads to most of the angst and a surprisingly heartbreaking twist near the end.

The few secondary characters in the book worked really well. Overall, a pretty good, typical book for Ms. Leya.

The Boss
E.M. Leya

Year after year Martin had taken all the disrespect and bullying from his boss he could endure. One afternoon, he marches into his boss’s office and tells him exactly what he thinks and more. Ready for a pink slip, he’s surprised at Stephen’s response.

Stephen has been given everything he’s ever wanted, but with a price. He has become his father’s puppet and must do and say exactly as he’s told. His employees hate him for the way he treats them, but not one has stood up to him until the day that Martin walks into his office.

The conversation that takes place will change both of their lives forever.

Everything I’ve ever read by E.M. Leya has never disappointed me and this book is just the same. A must read. Great job!

First you have to overlook sex and spankings during office hours but if you accept the "artistic" license of the author, it wasn't all bad. It was a good theme; son breaking away from overbearing dad with support from boyfriend. However some of the details were OTT. Add to that, the author constantly referred to "the black man, the large black man, his large black ****". We get it already, he's not Caucasian! Yes, race was brought up in part of the story, but it wasn't necessary to reiterate the fact over and over. It lessened later in the book but annoyed me nonetheless. I was surprised, because of how the book started, that there were not excessive sex scenes in the book. Thus an extra star than it would have had and one more for the nice ending and epilogue.

Just when I think E. M. Leya can't get any more diverse in her stories, she comes along and pushes the reader in yet another "new pool". Presenting the book this time as an interracial tale of every employee's dream... to tell your boss exactly what you think of him. But she doesn't even stop there. Not only does Martin tell Stephen what he thinks of his iron fisted rule over the office staff, he carries it a step farther and offers a somewhat surprising solution. Read to unfold every employee's dream. EM Leya does it with a flair.

The book name doesn't do it justice

The boss sound so strict or just a BDSM novel. It really wasn't just a little spanking here or there. It was a love story about becoming your own man and owning your life. In the end it was more than just spanking it was about romance, family drama, and growing up.

Unrealistic and tripe-ish but I still finished it.
