I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.

UPDATE for you guys! LD has posted some snippets of books to come. I have three here, and Smiley, Breeze, Flame and LEO <3 on my Smiley review because I can't fit them all on one. There is also one of Kit, but I couldn't fit her in so I didn't bother. These are completely unedited and are not final in any way. I just thought I'd share them with you guys since not everyone can find them on Facebook.

From what I can tell about Darkness from previous books:
*He's different, but all we know is a very vague comment he makes to Obsidian of “You were singled out for a mating project while I was assigned to do something else.”
*He has short dark hair.
*He's mixed with black leopard
*He "...isn’t social but he wouldn’t terrorize a female" and tends to avoid females.
*He leads some sort of security team.
*He also works as an interrogator for New Species..
*He was trained by a mercenary female to seduce females, then killed her when she turned on them.
So many Species are so nervous around Darkness. I can't wait to see what lucky female wins his heart.

Darkness, the 12th novel in Laurann Dohner’s fantastic New Species Series….and just as good as previous books!!!
I’ve been a fan of the New Species series from the when I read the first book and having met Darkness in previous books, I was really looking forward to finally reading his very own story.
If there was one New Species character that deserved to find happiness, it’s Darkness.
FBI agent Katrina Perkins’s boss assigns her to work undercover at Homeland, the New Species home. Her mission is to find some prisoner there and work at getting him out.
Kat is dedicated to her job but is not pleased about her new duty. Wow, this was one hell of a strong character…kick-ass, tough cookie…and takes no prisoners!!!! To see her in action when she arrives at Homeland’s gate!!!!! This is Lara Croft in action!!!!
Is it any wonder that Darkness is impressed with his first sight of Kat? This is no needy woman…she’s courageous and totally in control.
Darkness may not trust Kat’s true intentions of her stay in Homeland but he cannot stop wanting her. To possess and control her. Yes, Darkness has a need to be in control…and yes he does like a bit of kink…
Of course let’s not forget the really hot and sizzling sex scenes between these two….
-Seeing the New Species kids….some really great scenes with them…they cute, adorable and totally lovable
-Kat’s roommate Missy…a romance writer…so so cool

I’ve been a fan of the New Species series from the when I read the first book and having met Darkness in previous books, I was really looking forward to finally reading his very own story.
He has always been one of the darkest New Species character having suffered immensely at the hands of the Mercile scientists. Trained as a killer and assassin, he has now become Homeland’s enforcer and executioner of untrainable or mad New Species. He hates and distrusts humans after seeing what was done to his fellow brothers and sisters. He also keeps away from any woman since the day he had been betrayed by someone he had loved and trusted. He has come to terms to be on his own for the rest of his life.

Kat was the perfect woman for Darkness. Strong and compassionate and adventurous too!! Agreeing to his request that they just have a sexual relationship with no feelings and love involved, hoping that he will not break her heart… ….
There was a time when I was unsure about Darkness’s behavior towards Kat…not wanting her to touch or kiss him was one of the things that I didn’t like. But then, this is a man who wants to keep his protective shield up…afraid to feel anything for a woman, afraid to love….But hell, Darkness, get your head together…you love this woman, so just get on with it and make sure you do not lose her!!!
Of course let’s not forget the really hot and sizzling sex scenes between these two….
Other things I adored in this story:
-Seeing the New Species kids….some really great scenes with them…they cute, adorable and totally lovable

Holy Shit!!! I don't know how I am going to write a review when I am a boneless melted puddle. Wow Darkness is freakin hott!!!!!!! Ok So Darkness is the 12th book in the New Species Series. Kat is a FBI agent sent in to homeland undercover by her douche bag boss to get the dirt on the NS and to look for Jerry Boris. From the first few minutes in the gates of homeland all hell breaks loose, and she does something that pretty much blows her cover. Now she is being interrogated by this tall sexy as hell NS male. What's a woman to do when her loyalties are torn between the man she wants more than any other or her career?
“You don’t want to see me snap. You’d end up with more than you could handle. You’d have two hundred forty-five pounds of raw male unleashed on your ass.”
Darkness:
“I warned you that I wasn’t mate material.” “You did. I just thought you had issues. Instead you’re ice cold inside.”
MMMMM Damn Darkness is all kinds of kinky, dirty, damaged bad boy, yummy goodness!!! OMG Hawt dayum did I want to jump him! But I wanted to choke his ass a lot too. Darkness was messed up! He was sexy, strong and has a great heart, but he has so many damn walls built up and he tries so hard to lock everyone out of his heart that he comes across as cold sometimes. When he tells Kat about his pasted my heart just broke for him. I can see why he is fighting so hard to keep everyone away. Darkness is very stubborn and serious, so I loved the times Kat made him laugh or grin.
“Pretend you’re a female from my past so I can effectively do my job. I actually admired your skill out there. I don’t think I could have done as well as you did or dealt with those humans as quickly. You either think fast on your feet or it was a brilliant strategic move. You’re one of the best assassins I’ve ever met if that’s the case. If I’m wrong…” He looked at her chest. “It makes you exceptionally sexy.”
“I’ll fit.” He tore off one of the condoms from the roll and tossed the rest of them up near the top of the bed. She didn’t seem so certain or fearless anymore. It amused him. “I’ll go slow. You’re tough. I promised not to hurt you.” “I don’t think that’s an option. You’re size-proportioned, that’s for sure. I guess those big feet of yours should have been a clue. Do you carry a permit for that?”
“Relax and enjoy this. It’s the first step in mating. I’m claiming you in every way.”
Kat:
Kat is a totally bad ass bitch!!!! I loved her so freakin much. She was so sassy, strong and playful. She had a great personality. She says what she thinks, she is smart and a fast thinker. She doesn't let Darkness walk on her , but she fights for him hard.... She slowly tore down his walls, she was very understanding of his past, but didn't become a door mat for him just because he has issues. She was perfect for him!
“I thought you were going to never see me again?” She ran the tip of her tongue across his skin, paused right under his earlobe. “Did you bring handcuffs, Mr. Control?” She nibbled on his earlobe. “Control this.” Her hands started to roam his body wherever she could reach.
“It’s scary and messy when you start to fall for someone, Darkness. I heard that from someone who gave me a reality bitch-slap. This is yours. You can physically haul ass away from me but it’s not going to stop you from thinking about me or admitting that I’ve gotten to you. It’s a two-way street.”
“You win. I give up. I thought there was something more between us but I see you’re never going to allow that to happen. You can sleep alone from now on. That should thrill you.”
“Spread your thighs.” “Just like that, huh?” The soft growl was a warning. “Okay. That’s kind of sexy.” He smiled. “You think so?” “Yeah. I like it when your voice deepens too.” “Give me a few minutes and you might hear me snarl. You don’t scare easily, do you?”
Darkness and Kat together is like a sex explosion. They are more kinky then romantic, because Darkness tries really hard to keep all the intimacy out of it, but it was still very sexy. I loved Fury and Darkness in this book. It was great to get to see Sal Fury's son. I loved this book it is a great addition to the series, the only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because , it took too long for Darkness to come around for my liking, and they didn't kiss til the damn end. Other than that the book rocked! I am on to the next book. I will leave my favorite moment below :
“Stop it. This is immature.” “Brothers sometimes fight.” Fury waved his hand toward his chest, urging him to come at him. “Let’s figure out who is the toughest, bro.” “Goddamn it,” Darkness hissed. The fight was on. Fury grabbed his shirt and nailed him in the ribs with a knee. He groaned but regained the upper hand when he managed to land a blow to the male’s chin. Fury stumbled back but Darkness didn’t retreat that time. The male wanted to fight and he was up for it. He tackled Fury around the waist, taking them both to the ground. They rolled, exchanging punches. He heard someone approaching but ignored the audience they seemed to have drawn until males pulled them apart. Security had surrounded them quickly. He glared at Fury, who was being held by two other males. Fury actually grinned. He had blood around his mouth. “Tell me that didn’t feel good.” “What is going on here?” Jinx glanced between the two of them. “A little harmless competition,” Fury announced. “Release us.” “Harmless?” Jinx shook his head. “You’re both bleeding.” “We’re bleeding the same blood type though, aren’t we?” Fury arched an eyebrow at Darkness. “Release us,” Darkness repeated. “The fight is over.” “But the discussion has just begun. I’ll be back tomorrow night and every night after until we work this out,” Fury warned.

Darkness…Oh I can only imagine how beautiful you are
Too bad you were a Grade A Ass for 87% of your book!!! Where was the Darkness I have loved for the past few books? Darkness used to be one of my favorite characters in previous installments. I was beyond excited to get to this book and BAM!! Total let down. My favorite Alpha turned out to be a Total Dick. I fear that this entire review may become a Full On Rant!!!
I am also in the minority, as ALL of my friends have rated this a 4 or 5 star read!
Darkness was emotionally damaged and afraid to love after some pretty f*cked up things happened while he was a captive. It was the perfect set up for me to fall head over heals in love with him. I LOVE emotionally scarred alphas. A long list of them that have stolen my heart; Zadist, Acheron, and Zarek just to name a few.
I won't give the plot away other than to say that Darkness had sworn off women and all sexual activity. Yet he found himself attracted to the heroine, Kat. Everytime they had sex he would tie her up, not allow her to touch or kiss him. Unfortunately this lasted for over 85% of the book.
When they had sex, he would use condoms so no one would smell him on her. He went as far as collecting all the used condoms, wrappers, and any other trash that he may have brought with him, and took it with him when he left.
Talk about making a girl feel cheap!!! When she finally demanded that they sleep and shower together and not just F*ck. Darkness started picking up extra shifts and wouldn't come home until she was asleep. She would then wake up handcuffed or tied to the bed with Darkness having his way with her. He would then untie her, shower, and go to sleep beside her without even talking to her. WHAT A DICK!!!
For all of you that need a HEA, there was one and it was in the Epilogue. Too Little, Too Late for me!! It was rushed and awkward. The entire ending was rushed.
My friend Ann-Kristin did ask a great question...Who is Trey Banging? Ooooohhh the possibilities!!!

Darkness is a New Species cat-man who is the major badass at the compound. All of the others are even afraid of him because of his master intimidation techniques and torture skills. He's their go-to guy to get answers from any of the bad guys because he will break fingers, shove things up their fingernails, tear off their fingernails, etc.. to get the truth from them. Hmmm, that's a lot of finger-hurting crap. He seems to have a phalanges fixation.
Kat is an FBI agent who is sent into the compound undercover to find the bad guy from the last book because her boss is a personal friend of his. Kat hates her boss and knows that the assignment is bullshit but what can she do? She goes in as a crime scene specialist to teach classes to the New Species on investigating and forensics.
When Kat enters Homeland, some hate group shows up and starts shooting and ramming the gates. She jumps into action! She shoots the driver and blows up the van, saving everyone. Yay, Kat, right? Um, wrong! The New Species know that some CSI tech wouldn't have those skills so she is brought in for questioning. And, by questioning, they mean that Darkness is going to torture her for information. Hide your phalanges, Kat!!
But, Darkness doesn't like hurting women, so he gives her the choice of:
A. Tell the truth
B. Be tortured until you tell the truth
C. Be raped until you tell the truth.
Darkness finds her attractive, so he's hoping for "C". He also has his fingers behind his back right now.
please pick "C" ....
Kat doesn't like her boss, doesn't trust his motivations because he is racist against the New Species, and wasn't planning on completing her mission anyway, but she's a professional, so of course she won't give up her cover. And, being a professional, she picks being raped. Cause, she's kind of attracted to her inquisitioner, might as well get a little somethin somethin from her time with him.

Darkness has to have her tied-up and handcuffed for the sex - that's fine.
She's not allowed to touch him ever - check.
He refuses to kiss her - okay, sounds reasonable.
He leaves immediately afterwards - she likes sleeping alone anyway.
No dates, dinners together, or talking - she understands.
This arrangement must be secret - she's good with secrets.
I think this is the start of something beautiful!
And, it is. A beautiful romantic story of a girl giving up every ounce of self-respect, pride, and dignity that she has to be with a complete douchebag.
Kat is an FBI agent who is sent into the compound undercover to find the bad guy from the last book because her boss is a personal friend of his. Kat hates her boss and knows that the assignment is bullshit but what can she do? She goes in as a crime scene specialist to teach classes to the New Species on investigating and forensics.
When Kat enters Homeland, some hate group shows up and starts shooting and ramming the gates. She jumps into action! She shoots the driver and blows up the van, saving everyone. Yay, Kat, right? Um, wrong! The New Species know that some CSI tech wouldn't have those skills so she is brought in for questioning. And, by questioning, they mean that Darkness is going to torture her for information. Hide your phalanges, Kat!!
But, Darkness doesn't like hurting women, so he gives her the choice of:
A. Tell the truth
B. Be tortured until you tell the truth
C. Be raped until you tell the truth.
Darkness finds her attractive, so he's hoping for "C". He also has his fingers behind his back right now.

Kat doesn't like her boss, doesn't trust his motivations because he is racist against the New Species, and wasn't planning on completing her mission anyway, but she's a professional, so of course she won't give up her cover. And, being a professional, she picks being raped. Cause, she's kind of attracted to her inquisitioner, might as well get a little somethin somethin from her time with him.

I enjoyed this book a great deal. I really grew to appreciate Darkness in True and was really looking forward to this. I can't resisted a gorgeous man who is hurting inside. I just want to fix them, or at least witness another woman fix them.
During Darkness' own story, I saw how complicated he was inside. As much as he may have continued to deny it, he was in pain. He had so much guilt over the deaths of his brothers that he didn't deserve. It was all Mercile's fault. No one fought against having a mate as much as he did. Poor Kat went through so much for him. He pushed her away so many times. I would not have blamed her for giving up on him. But she always took him back. He needed her so much and she was always there to tell him he was not to blame.
I love this series so much that it really wouldn't even have mattered whether or not I cared about the title character. I enjoyed all the characters. I loved seeing Sunshine, and Fury, and Justice, and Salvation! The NS are such an amazing family and I feel like they are all my family now too. They are such amazing people and I cant wait for Smiley. I am so glad that it is coming out so soon after Darkness and there wont be a long wait for me. Whenever I read NS I just don't want to stop!

He was forced to do some of the worst things imaginable, like torturing prisoners to get information and using his sex appeal to get what he wants from people. He was forced to try to get answers from a woman that betrayed him, he had to torture and kill her. He feels he is too damaged to trust himself to be with a woman.
The heroine: Kat - she is an FBI agent and her boss assigned her to get information on the NSO and homeland. He was friends with the warden of Fulton prison and blames them for his friends’ disappearance. Kat doesn’t like her boss and thinks he is a racist against New Species but has to do what he says. She goes to Homeland as the representative from the crime lab to instruct New Species on their forensic science procedures.
The Story: I have been waiting for this book for a while, I was intrigued by Darkness from the first time he appeared in the prior books and really started liking him in the last book, True. He is probably the most dangerous of all the New Species and is definitely a good male, though he doesn’t think so. He is all about control and keeping himself in check and he has high standards. He refused to interrogate Jeanie in the last book because he refuses to hurt females.
When an attack at the gates of Homeland is thwarted by Kat after she takes the gun off one of the guards, Darkness sees that Kat had skills she shouldn’t have if she was just a CSI from a crime lab. He takes her into custody and has to interrogate her. Kat does have secrets and is there undercover, so she has to put on an act for Darkness. She knows who he is, and she is intrigued by him from the start.
This book is told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Vanessa Chambers. Vanessa’s voice is soft and feminine. She is awesome at doing different voices for different characters and I have been binging this series for over a week now and haven’t gotten sick of her narration. Though I have to say that her voice for Darkness wasn’t my favorite, she tried to talk with a deep voice, but it ended up sounding like someone with a cold. Overall, this book didn’t quite match up to my expectations, it wasn’t bad, but wasn’t as good as some of the others in this series.

I think he is one of the most interesting characters.
Things I loved in the book included
a) the revelation about who Darkness' brother is
b) yes, finally we get to see more Fury and Slade
c) the adorable New Species kids who are growing up. The climbing wall scene was excellent!

**re-read,(not sure how many times I have read this ) I liked this one better this time around
Ok let me start by saying I love this series, it is one of if not my favorite PR romance series that I weigh other shifter/DNA books by and most sadly fall flat as a pancake so when I stalk Laurann Dohner I get excepted like it's Christmas when I see a new New Species book coming out. I couldn't wait for this book then I read the teasers and I was even more excited and I got this book the second I could.
Coming to the NSO was nothing Kat planned or wanted but her boss at the FBI ordered it, so she made her own plan to have fun and play dumb when she returned to work while hiding any information she found. Entering the NSO Kat stops a deadly threat and that puts her on Darkness's radar. Darkness doesn't trust humans but especially woman and he is who is called on when information is needed from a tough case. Seeing Kat Darkness knows she isn't what she seems so he sets about to find the truth.
The more time they spend together the more they can't deny the attraction and convince themselves that a purely physical relationship is a good idea. As they get to know each other the more it becomes hard to deny their feelings. But Darkness still can't let go of his past and his feelings for humans. When both Darkness and Kat think it is the end a threat is revealed that could cost someone their life and the feelings they have and tried so hard to deny won't be hidden any longer.
I have to say I was a little worried about this book when I got a little ways into it. I try my best not to read reviews of books I really want to read and if the author is someone I know I can trust because others opinions (too many of them) can ruin my experience of a book and theres always the chance something important will be spoiled. But every once in a while my eyes (of their own free will) wonder and that is what happened with Darkness. Some had issues with this book and after reading a little while I started to get scared myself that what I read was true.
Darkness was a jerk and the heroine Kat started to get a little too pushy for me. And my heart started to break in tiny little pieces thinking that I would have a Laurann Dohner book that I didn't like. But I kept read and I loved this book, I fell in love with Darkness and all his brooding ways and Kat softened some but was strong when she needed to be. Now I do wish that Darkness had begged more (because lets face it whats not to love with that) and I do wish he had groveled more even though he did. But I loved this book Darkness was different from the other NS but it wasn't bad. Kat was it for him he just had a lot to over come.
We get great glimpses into other NS characters that has convinced me even more that Laurann Dohner will never be able to end this series. We get info (yeah not really info. more like a tease) of Trey, and a whole slew of other NS Males that I anticipate more and more for their stories. I can't wait for Smileys book, and that we get it in a few days is almost more than I can take. I hope book 14 isn't too far away in the future. This is one of those series that I find myself wanting to re-read all the time and I have to remind myself that I have too many books waiting in the wings as it is, but I think a re-read will be something I can't hold off much longer.

พระเอกปากแข็งมาก(มากๆ) จนเนื้อเรื่องมันยืดเพราะพระเอกทำเป็นซึนนี่แหละ ตอนแรกเห็น blurb ก็แอบคิดว่าเล่มนี้มันจะฮอตกว่าเล่มก่อนๆมั้ย เห็นมีกุญแจมืออะไรเข้ามาด้วย แต่จริงๆแล้ว มันไม่ฮอตเลยนะ (ฮอตเฉพาะแค่ฉากแรกๆ) หลังๆไปเริ่มเอียนกับพระเอกมากขึ้นเรื่อยๆ อะไรก็ไม่รู้ ... ปฏิเสธนางเอกตลอด นางเอกจะไปก็ปล่อยไป แต่สุดท้ายไปรับกลับมา เป็นแบบนี้อยู่สองรอบได้ จนช่วงท้ายที่สถานการณ์มันไคลแมกซ์จนพระเอกเริ่มคิดขึ้นมาได้ว่านางเอกมีค่าแค่ไหน คือมันสูตรสำเร็จไปหมดซะทุกอย่างจนแทบไม่มีอะไรต้องลุ้นเลยสำหรับเล่มนี้

Darkness, the first Species with so many commitment issues.
Oh, Darkness, you are a very difficult male aren't you? But your pretend-Kat is here to stay, even if she has too many secrets herself!!
I'm such a huge fan of this series, you have no idea and Darkness was a great installment even if i missed the funny moments and the whole "mine" factor.
This book was a little different than the rest. Focused more on the couple and less on the on-going plotlines, it was both refreshing and unique. But i couldn't shake the yearning i felt, for the all-time favorite action packed, mate frenzy!!
Kat is an FBI agent sent inside Homeland under false pretenses in order to locate and help escape Borris. We all know him and hate him. Her timing though isn't very good and she ends up in a dangerous situation, saves the day, but betrays with her actions the fact that she is not just a consultant.
That's how she finds herself cornered by Darkness who, lets face it, almost hates everyone. He is cold, highly controlled, doesn't open up and hasn't have a woman for a long, long time. Well his Kat will change all that. He'll lose control in a way he swore he never would ans he'll find himself asking for so much more.
Like i said i had a great time with this book, but on the other hand i always do with this series and that's the crazy part. Even after so many installments every story is fresh and brand new. I really hope Laurann Dohner, has the strength to write 20 more books, because i can't get enough of them.

OK this book was a little hard to read for me...I hurt so bad for Darkness. He is completely shutdown emotionally and no one can reach him ().
Kat is a hard core FBI agent that doesn't take shit from anyone...especially Darkness.
When these 2 collide, the sparks fly but the walls still don't come down. I was so frustrated until Darkness sees the light and mends his ways.

This book, I can honestly say is completely different from ANY of the other New Species Novels. From the plot, the internal & external conflicts surrounding the main characters, and the characters themselves.
I loved every single aspect of this book. It was refreshing & everything just flowed well. It was sexy, romantic, frustrating, suspenseful & heartfelt. I loved how the children of the New Species are incorporated here, and I loved all the moments between Darkness & Fury very touching, amusing, just beautiful.
Darkness is definitely unlike any New Species male I've met. His issues and circumstances and how they've shaped & affected him, will break your heart. Even in those moments when you want to strangle him, you can't be angry with him cos you get the why of it all. He's scary but he can be sweet in his own way. He just shines here. I really love his character. And I was pleased & enjoyed watching him come full circle. And the male is just beyond sexy. Hot. All of it. *blushes*
Kat I LOVE HER! She is the perfect representation of a strong yet vulnerable woman. A kick a** heroine. One who when she has to, will make the hard choices without flinching, backing down, or being a b*tch about it. But she's also comfortable with showing when she needs or loves or wants someone. Her softer side, quiet strength, is just as formidable as her aggression and I love that. She is the perfect mate for a male like Darkness. ANNNND... She didn't have not one TSTL moment in this novel! I'm dang near in love with her myself. Kat & Darkness certainly have the white hot passion going on. In and out of the bedroom. They definitely burned up the pages.
The Villains were done well here. The reason & motivations behind all they did was not only believable and didn't have me rolling my eyes, but it kept me intrigued & eager to know how it would all pan out. I wasn't disappointed how things came to a close either.
I loved the interactions with all the other secondary characters here as well. They brought a certain life to the story & just help moved things along in a very entertaining way.
If you have been following this series I highly recommend this read. If you haven't and are interested, I still recommend this read but STRONGLY suggest you start this series from the beginning & read in order.

I loved every single aspect of this book. It was refreshing & everything just flowed well. It was sexy, romantic, frustrating, suspenseful & heartfelt. I loved how the children of the New Species are incorporated here, and I loved all the moments between Darkness & Fury very touching, amusing, just beautiful.
Darkness is definitely unlike any New Species male I've met. His issues and circumstances and how they've shaped & affected him, will break your heart. Even in those moments when you want to strangle him, you can't be angry with him cos you get the why of it all. He's scary but he can be sweet in his own way. He just shines here. I really love his character. And I was pleased & enjoyed watching him come full circle. And the male is just beyond sexy. Hot. All of it. *blushes*

My first thought: New book, a new book!!!
But after reading Darkness, well I was a bit disappointed. A book from this series can't be that bad, it wasn't indeed. But how could I express my feeling? It just left me empty...
I try not to give you any spoilers during my review.
I almost hate their first encounter at the beginning. It was hot, okay, but so awkward. Things happened between them superfast, and I just didn't enjoy it. I think in this scene Darkness was out of his character, it wasn't his style. It was an unusual situation, even for him, but this kind of interrogation... No, I don't think he would do that...
To mention some positive elements, I really liked Kat. She's tough, determined, creative. She was almost to good for Darkness. I tried so hard to like him, but he was so cold...
Their sex scenes were just not okay. Yeah it could be "fun" for one occasion, but for almost every time?
My main problem was the end. Really? She woke up and that is the heartbreaking moment I waited for? Darkness, please, just a bit more emotion...
I am a little frustrated, as you can see. I had high (very high) expectations, but this book was so empty... Darkness was so empty :(

Loved the book! I think Kat is the perfect mate for Darkness. There seems to be some background story about Trey. I'm hoping he gets his own book. And what about the hint of Flame and Amanda in True's book? I was hoping to hear more about that here. If you remember Amanda is the loud mouth friend of Lauren who is Wrath's mate (Book 6).

May 9, 2015ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just finished true I seriously cant wait for DARKNESSS he is totally my type of man. DARK,DANGEROUS,MYSTERIOUS,SEXYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I honestly want the heroine to be a badass and I want her to be scarred too so she can understand his pain.

this wasn't my favorite NS book, I just didn't care for Kat or Darkness...maybe it's because I don't really know much about darkness going in, I was looking forward to a book for a more familiar character..needless to say I'm still looking forward to Smiley's book!

It was a typical New Species novel.
A lot of scorthing scenes, a lot of denial from Darkness, a strong heroine, Kat!
I appeciated Kat and her courage to bet on Darkness. she was tough, but never afraid of showing her feelings. Very straitforward in everything she did.
Darkness was, just as his name says, dark. Hot, but dark. But, as we're lead to expect, he melted very nicely! LOL
I like Ms. Dohner style. It's like a puppet's show: the charactes talk in a jerky kind of way, just like puppet. But it works very nicely!
“It’s probably best for both of us if we leave it as is. Just get me some clothes. It’s cold in here. It would be nice to know if my suitcase survived so I have something to wear tomorrow. It was in the trunk of my car.”
“I’ll look into that. Relax, Kat. Welcome to Homeland.” He spun and stalked to the door, picking up his discarded tank top on the way. “Someone will be in shortly with your things. Stay here. There are a lot of males outside who would enjoy the view of you in so little.”
You see what I mean? Short sentences and jerky-feeling dialogue!
I'm looking forward to reading about Smiley! :)

Darkness is the 12th book in the New Species series and follows Darkness and Kat. I’ve mentioned before that this series is very formulaic, but I’ve noticed that several of these later ones almost read as a reboot of an earlier book, and IMO this reads like Justice 2.0. We have another on the DL push/pull relationship with a highly skilled Lara Croft-ish h, and an H hesitant to mate.
Darkness (black leopard mix) has been around for several books. We know his background was different (“You were singled out for a mating project while I was assigned to do something else.”) and that he’s the torturer/interrogator for the NSO. He’s the epitome of dark & dangerous (and kinky) and most give him a wide berth. He's lugging major emotional baggage and pushes everyone away. (He might be our only H that hasn’t shared sex with any of the females)
Katrina Perkins is a super badass FBI agent that’s ordered by her boss (Robert Mason) to go undercover to locate a man he thinks the NSO is hiding.
“Every time I want to hate you for acting like a robot, you do something I don’t expect.” She hesitated and then surprised him by straddling his lap. He gripped her hips to keep her from falling back.
I really liked this one. I’m a sucker for a dark/messed up H, and I LOVED all the page time with Fury. (Fury is his ½ brother on the human side and is trying to form a bond with Darkness) Their “bro journey” was may favorite part…except maybe the ADORABLE rock-climbing scene with Forest & Salvation. (Slade & Fury’s sons)
“I’m not judging you. We’re brothers,” Fury rasped. “You did what you had to do.”
“You remember Darkness.” The young male glared. “You fought with my daddy. Mommy was pissed.” “Sal,” Fury rasped.
Bottom Line-I really liked this one!! Many people read these out of order, or as standalones, but I would suggest at least reading Fury and True before starting this because the storylines overlap a lot. *Side notes- Slade/Trisha= Forest, Fury/Ellie= Salvation, Valiant/Tammy= Noble, Brawn/Becca= Kismet. Tiger/Zandy= newborn but I haven’t seen a name

It is no secret how much I love this series.
After 12 books, you might expect it all to be a bit samey - and it is in certain parts - yet, still manages to be refreshing and keeps me coming back for more, like the book version of Chocolate Cornflake nests from greggs! (I love those)
Darkness, not my favourite in the series - because I prefer it when they fall hard and fast and get all "MINE" in this series, but I still really enjoyed this.
The story fit, for who Darkness was and his past - anything else would not have felt right for his character.
Loved Kat too - she was strong in her own right and not willing to put up with less than she thought she deserved.
Also, lovely to see Fury and his family - I enjoyed the development of a brotherly relationships between him and Darkness almost as much as the romantic relationship between Darkness and Kat.
Overall a great 4 stars, and I am yet to get tired of this series.

Dohner really knows how to push the right buttons to make you seriously hate the antagonist in her books. I wanted to see Kat's boss suffer forever in less than two pages into the book.
The book as a whole was really good, but not GREAT! It doesn't make my top 5 but it's far from bad. Much like in Shadow's story, she's really setting up a great potential match for another couple with Kat's best friend and maybe Book, we'll see.
Darkness was really on again off again through the entire book and it wasn't until the end that he really came to terms with his feelings for Kat. I guess species aren't that different from human men after all ;)
I think I would have liked the book just a little bit more if more of the conflict in this story came from outside the couple in question. I feel a good story must have conflict in the relationship because it's the best way to see characters grow individually and as a unit. I liked seeing more of Salvation and Forest, I hope she keeps this an element in upcoming books.

Darkness *swoon*

So it's been almost 2 months since I read this. I won't give in the illusion that I'm still able to give it a proper review so I'll make it short.
I liked Kat! She's really a good match for Darkness and I totally believed her to be a strong women.
Darkness was... just Darkness. From the previous books we know that he thinks, he's damaged goods and no mate-material because of his past, which is a bit different to the other New Species. But as the story goes on we see that he isn't as damaged as he thinks!
Of course they get their HEA!
And of course there was some good smexy times with some light bondage, what was something new within this series.
So all together it was a great-as-always episode of the New Species Series!

3.25+ RATING- I've been on the fence about this series for the last few books. I think I may be burned out on the New Species but yet, I keep reading. Darkness was okay for me but that's about it. I have no real complaints but at the same time have nothing great to say about the book either.
For me, it rates the same as the last few books have. I do have very high hopes that we will get my hearts desire soon which would be one of the Taskforce members falling in love with A Gift New Species. I've been pretty much dying for that story line forever and I feel like the groundwork is there now. EEK!!! Could Trey have a story coming up? I hope so! That could be the book to turn this series around for me. Crossing fingers!
