Julia and Colby are stuck in their hotel's elevator. She's in town to meet her favorite romance author and he's here to support his sister. When they get stuck, she reads to him about all of the perfect book boyfriends to distract him. He declares he could flirt better than them. One thing leads to another and they end up hooking up. Once rescued, both want more, so she goes to his room to hang out.

The banter was flirty as hell, Colby was giving golden retriever energy with a filthy mouth, and honestly, I’d let him press all my buttons (yes, elevator pun absolutely intended). And you better believe I kicked my feet like a drama queen when he hit me with the classic book boyfriend wall lean. At just around 50 pages, it’s the perfect little quickie… and trust me, the tension builds way faster than that elevator ever did.

The writing is voicey and addictive—I kicked my damn feet when the wall lean happened. My only gripe? I want more of these two. I got a glimpse, and now I’m greedy—I want the after, the next day, the next everything.

There is enough character development to understand why each MC is going for it.

Penthouse Hotshot is a novella that packs some steam in an elevator. Julia is at the hotel to meet her favourite author and Colby, a famous hockey player, is there to support his sister (who just happens to be Julia's favourite author). Julia ventures out of her room to get ice and realises she left her key behind so has to go to the desk for a replacement. Cue Colby arriving, and offering to share a lift together. Oh and don't forget Julia is dressed in her PJs and slippers - embarrassing!! Colby enjoys the fact Julia actually doesn't know who he is - like seriously! Colby is scared of tight places so to help him feel better - Julia starts to read her latest read to Colby (which just happens to be written by Colby's sister). One thing leads to another and they hook up - in the elevator. As it's a novella it's short and we don't get a huge amount of backstory or what happens next, but a quick fun read nonetheless.

Book 2 in Maren Jenner’s elevator series did not disappoint. If you enjoyed her first steamy installment, you’ll love this one too. If you didn’t read it, you don’t need to backtrack since these are standalone stories. These are quick reads with a common location and theme - a man and woman (so far anyway) who get stuck in an elevator in a new hotel in - I think Grand Rapids, MI.
Do you see them ride off into the sunset? No. The entire book takes place over maybe a few hours. There’s no epilogue with 2.5 kids and a dog (which I appreciate). But the potential is there. This isn’t insta-love. This is insta-attraction and let’s see where things go. It’s a fun, quick, frisky read.

This is a short, spicy read! I’ve been loving the hockey romance stories lately! Julia is in town for a book signing with her favorite author. It turns out that she gets stuck in the elevator with the author’s brother, Colby, who happens to be a professional hockey player. Their attraction is immediate and their time in the elevator together is steamy! It’s a fun, quick story, and I can’t wait for the next one!

Penthouse Hotshot is such a cute story. Colby is just adorable and Julia is a hot mess but so relatable. I loved seeing their attraction to each other turn into something more, and they’re just cute together. Definitely a must read if you need a short, steamy story to scratch an itch.

Penthouse Hotshot: Book 2 of the Shafted Series by Maren Jenner is a wonderful novella. I love a quick HEA, and this one has spice, ice, and everything nice. Julia and Colby are both excellent characters. Obviously, with a novella, the author has to walk the line between not enough backstory and just enough. Maren Jenner does a great job, and you get all the juicy bits, oohs and aahs, plus some interesting eyebrow raises. Can’t recommend her writing enough, and excited for the next one in this series!

If you haven’t read these spicy novellas do it! I’m loving this shafted series. Each couple meets and gets stuck in the elevator of this building and then things heat up.

As someone who will pick up a hockey romance without even reading the blurb half the time… Penthouse Hotshot was basically designed in a lab to make me happy.
This ended up being one of my favorites in the series because it leaned so hard into the things I love: hockey player hero, forced proximity, instant chemistry, and a heroine who felt incredibly relatable. Julia had me immediately. A stressed college senior, book convention attendee, serial book boyfriend collector, and accidentally meeting a gorgeous hockey player while wearing ratty pajamas and cat slippers? Painfully realistic energy honestly. I loved that she wasn’t trying to impress anyone and Colby noticed her because of that.
Colby was exactly the kind of hockey romance MMC I eat up. He is confident without feeling arrogant, charming without being over the top, and unexpectedly sweet once the attention and celebrity side of things got stripped away. Their elevator scenes were easily my favorite part. The banter felt natural, the attraction built quickly but didn’t feel forced, and there was something really fun about watching two people who should have been a fleeting encounter start wondering if maybe this could actually become something more.
This book was cute, flirty, cozy, and had enough steam to keep things interesting without losing the heart. If you’re a hockey romance reader who loves bookish heroines, forced proximity, and that “wait… are we actually doing this?” kind of chemistry, definitely add this one to your list. This was actually the most adorable thing I’ve read recently. I thought the meet cue between Julia and Colby was the sweetest thing. I loved these characters and their story and I think is the perfect little bite-size book. I also think it is a perfect pallet cleanser for when you want something short and sweet in between bigger or darker reads.

I recently asked indie authors on Threads for their short and spicy novellas to help with a slump I’ve been fighting through. I am in the process of reading through all of them to review and this is one of the first ones on my list.
Penthouse Hotshot was a delightful read. I loved both Julia (FMC) and Colby (MMC) with my whole heart. Julia is incredibly relatable in her sweat pants and topknot, and the way Colby is drawn to her just the way she is in her lounge clothes was perfection. The pacing was excellent and I honestly want more of these two. I will absolutely be working my way through the rest of this 5 book series of in-elevator romances because I’m pretty sure I just found a new author to add to my favourites!!

This standalone read was just the perfect short story that left you with just enough. There was a great amount of build up within the lusty but pretty quick stranger spicy time of a romance read. Julia is at the hotel to meet her favourite author and Colby, a famous hockey player, who is just there to support his sister (who just happens to be Julia's favourite author).
When Julia ventures out of her room to get ice and realises she left her key behind so has to go to the desk for a replacement… this is when she meets mister hotty mc-hot Colby. Colby thankfully is nice enough to share a lift with her. Oh and don't forget Julia is dressed in her PJs and slippers - embarrassing!!
Colby enjoys the fact Julia actually doesn't know who he is - like seriously! He loves that because it lets him just breathe rather than worrying about what someone thinks of him constantly. But while being in this elevator together, we find out that Colby is scared of tight places so… so in order to kind of calm him down Julia starts to read her latest read to Colby (which just so happens to be written by Colby's sister). One thing leads to another and they hooking up - in the elevator.
Overall, this is a super short short read that does not need much explaining on the background aspect. But no matter, I do recommend this and it is a must.

This standalone read was just the perfect short story that left you with just enough. There was a great amount of build up within the lusty but pretty quick stranger spicy time of a romance read. Julia is at the hotel to meet her favourite author and Colby, a famous hockey player, who is just there to support his sister (who just happens to be Julia's favourite author).
When Julia ventures out of her room to get ice and realises she left her key behind so has to go to the desk for a replacement… this is when she meets mister hotty mc-hot Colby. Colby thankfully is nice enough to share a lift with her. Oh and don't forget Julia is dressed in her PJs and slippers - embarrassing!!
Colby enjoys the fact Julia actually doesn't know who he is - like seriously! He loves that because it lets him just breathe rather than worrying about what someone thinks of him constantly. But while being in this elevator together, we find out that Colby is scared of tight places so… so in order to kind of calm him down Julia starts to read her latest read to Colby (which just so happens to be written by Colby's sister). One thing leads to another and they hooking up - in the elevator.
Overall, this is a super short short read that does not need much explaining on the background aspect. But no matter, I do recommend this and it is a must.
