Sometimes the wrong number is the exact one you need.
After years of hard work, my career is finally taking off. I’m one promotion away from getting an office with both a door and a window, and buying an apartment is within reach. Sure, I’d love to have someone to share it with, but that can wait. For now, it’s all about achieving my dreams.
When I get a call saying I inherited a resort in the mountains, I think it’s a mistake. If I had a relative at Cougar Lake, I’d know. right? Only it’s not a mistake and I soon discover that not only do I have an uncle I never met, but he was also my godfather.
Taking time off to deal with it isn’t ideal. Thankfully the lawyer gave me the number for someone local who could help me sell the place… except when I call them they growl, tell me selling isn’t an option, and hang up. It looks like a trip to Cougar Lake is in my future whether my boss likes it or not.

The shift from new relationship to soon-to-be parents throws both men into unfamiliar territory. Wilder is steady and supportive, while Thorn wrestles with his instinct to control everything. They make space for each other’s growth, learn to communicate through the hard parts, and stay fiercely loyal through every surprise thrown at them, including running a business, navigating shifter dynamics, and an inopportune labor. Thorn and Wilder are opposites who challenge each other in the best ways, and their bond feels authentic and hard-won. The found family vibe is strong, with side characters like Frank the koala shifter and Thorn’s dad adding heart and plenty of laughs. This is another great story in the Dial M for Mates series. Each is a standalone story and all are great. Thorn has a plan for his future and it doesn’t include running a resort he inherited from an uncle he didn’t know. Wilder is a cougar shifter who loves the quiet of Cougar Lake and isn’t happy about new ownership of the resort. Once they meet Wilder is grumpy and Thorn doesn’t know what he wants. I loved watching them find their relationship. I loved this world and all the characters in the town and that find the resort. I wish we could get more stories especially Frank. This story is fun and low angst story that I definitely recommend.
I love this series! Colbie has done it again. This book finds a clueless human, Thorn, inheriting a resort that has seen better days. Enter cougar shifter Wilder, who gets several calls that make no sense. Once they meet things become clear. Thorn is Wilder's mate. Now, how to tell him. As the story unfolded, I could clearly visualize the characters, the lodge, the diner, the town, the lake. I quickly became invested. Look for a late in life romance. Oh, and cousins and friends galore. Peter, Paul, and Frank. Yeah, Frank. Cougars and shifters of all kinds are returned to Cougar Lake. HEA is assured. As you can tell, I love this book. So...you need to grab it...NOW!.

Wrong Number, Right Cougar is the 5th book in the Dial M For Mates series. Each book can be read as a standalone but why not enjoy the whole series. This is the story of Thorn a human omega and Wilder an alpha cougar shifter. Thorn a city guy inherites a resort from an uncle he didn't even know he had. While trying to sell the resort he calls Wilder by mistake and things go from there. I love this world and the characters in it. I loved watching these two from different backgrounds figure things out. This is a sweet quick read full of charm and swoon worthy interactions. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.
Love the sweetness of this series. Also like the fact that I can finish each book in two or three reading sessions. Finishing a book in this series always leaves me in an awesome happy place.
This is book five of the Dial M For Mates series and the main characters are human Thorn Taylor, who gets a call to tell him he has inherited a mountain lodge in Cougar Lake, from his uncle Brett, who he has never heard of, and cougar shifter and handyman Wilder, who used to help out old man Alexei Blaze, as Thorn’s uncle had renamed himself. Thorn’s father had never spoken of his brother and died years ago when Thorn was little, but even his other father didn’t know much about Brett. The lodge used to house a small number of visitors, all year round, when his uncle was in better health, with a number of cabins as well as the main lodge. Thorn was hoping to have it sold without even going to Cougar Lake, but the lawyer points out that will be unlikely as it is rather rundown. He is more concerned about an upcoming promotion, that he has been working hard towards and didn’t want to miss out on by having to go to the lodge and sort it out for sale. He was given the number of someone local who could help him sell it, but he possibly misdials and gets a very grumpy Wilder at the other end of the call, who isn’t exactly helpful or welcoming! The two finally meet up at the lodge, when Wilder feels the urge to check up on the place and feeling guilty for not visiting Alexei more in his final weeks, and comes across Thorn, who looks completely out of place in his city wear. Wilder also has to contend with his cougar, who is very interested in Thorn, realising he is their mate! Having found his mate is a human and one who seems to not even want to live in Cougar Lake, means Wilder will have to take matters slowly and see how they develop. He isn’t even sure if Thorn has any feelings or pull towards him.
Thorn had been having dreams about an unknown male for weeks and finds Wilder’s eyes pull him in like his dreams. Wilder has to hold himself and his cougar back, while the two of them make a list of things that need to be fixed before Thorn can sell the place. Wilder hadn’t been doing much work for Alexei aka Brett recently, as bookings reduced due to his health declining, and mostly made his money showing people around the wilderness. Noe, he is going to be busy working with Thorn to fix up everything, after he hires him to help, since he knows the place so well. They haven’t come to a monetary agreement which leaves Thorn uncomfortable. But he has to face and ask Wilder why he was being so distant with him and tell him that he liked him, really liked him! They end up in bed together, but Thorn has to return to the city for a meeting, leaving Wilder to wonder about what their future might be and so he asks another shifter for advice. Sticking with his mate is the main advice, wherever that might take them. He has already revealed his cougar to Thorn, who took it without any question, which amazed him. Thorn comes back and has a surprising suggestion for Wilder, putting them both on the same track and a future determined for them to be together. A surprise pregnancy adds to their new life and there is even a touch of romance between an older pairing close to them. A lovely HEA ending, with an epilogue showing their growing family and the joy they have brought to shifters and the other mates found for others who live or have visited the lodge and the lake. Another great tale of a misdialled number bringing fated mates together and the happy family life and future business together.
I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout, and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Wrong Number, Right Cougar is Book Five in the ‘Dial M For Mates’ series. It stars Thorne, a human omega, and Wilder, an Alpha cougar shifter. This is told in first person from Thorne and Wilder’s povs.
The cover model with the mustache and beard was well matched to the image of a cougar.
The blurb is from Thorne’s pov and gives the basic info about the plot. The start of this story is not the same as the others. In the other books, the omega makes a wrong call to an Alpha who rushes to rescue the omega. This plot was Thorne making a call to who he thought was a real estate agent and instead, ending up calling Wilder the handyman, who told Thorne the resort was not for sale. As if Wilder had any say because he didn’t own it. The mistaken call was a call for assistance, but not one where the omega was in dire need of help. Because of the format change and because the writing wasn’t as smooth, I found the beginning chapters confusing. Wilder is extremely grumpy towards Thorne, even though he knows Thorne is his mate. Suddenly, when Thorne throws himself at Wilder, Wilder turns nice and his voice changes.
By the end of the story, Wilder’s voice has changed so much, he sounded like Thorne. In the epilogue it was even more confusing as to who was speaking because there was head hopping into Thorne’s pov even though the epilogue was Wilder’s pov. It’s possible the authors wrote the wrong character names in places. As usual the authors really need to work at creating unique voices for their characters throughout the story. There was a lot of inner monologue from both characters talking about feelings, thoughts, descriptions, instead of showing, so I wasn’t drawn into the scene or characters. I was on the outside looking in.
The premise of Thorne’s fathers keeping the info about Uncle Brett secret from him at the beginning of the book was set up as tension as if there was an estrangement they didn’t talk about. But by the end of the book, Thorne spoke with his papa and all he said was that he should have tried to contact Uncle Brett but had no idea where he lived. The authors give no reason for the supposed estrangement at the beginning, especially since it’s indicated in the story that Uncle Brett wanted to visit with Thorne. The authors created a tension situation and it turned into a nothing burger.
There’s also another dropped subplot where Thorne’s papa and Frank from the town are involved, but by the epilogue readers are not informed about what happened to them as a couple. Are they married? Did they break up? Did Thorne’s father move to Cougar Lake to be with Frank? A total dropped subplot.
There are huge time and place jumps in the story without usually any indication of when they happen, like no extra line spaces or dividers. Which threw me out of the story as I had to go back to re-read to figure out what happened.
Wrong Number, Right Cougar had a lot of things that didn’t work for it. Usually, the books in this series have cute plots. The only thing I liked in this one was the location in a forest and the character names. I give this book, 2 Stars.
After years of hard work and following his plan, Thorn Taylor’s career is finally advancing. If he gets his promotion, he will be moved out of the janitor’s closet to an office with a working door and a window. And he might be able to get an apartment as well. But a phone call may change things. A law firm called him from Cougar Lake to tell him his Uncle Brett Taylor had passed away. When he denied having a relative of that name, the man asked if alpha Dylan Taylor was his father… if so, he did have an uncle who just passed away. Telling the lawyer he would call him back, he texted his omega dad to ask about Brett Taylor since his alpha father had died when he was young. Calling Noah back, he was told Brett had left his mountain lodge resort to Thorn. Thorn had no time to run a resort, so Noah sent the name of a real estate agent to help him sell it.
Wilder is a cougar shifter, maybe the last one left in the area. He used to work for Brett (“Blaze”) full time when the resort was open, but as the man got older, it didn’t always open. He wandered to the resort to check on Blaze and Sheriff Stan caught him up on the death and the resort going to a city-slicker who may turn it into a condo for investments. Rumors, but it still made Wilder nervous. Today he felt restless and walked toward the resort. With no warning, his cougar forced a shift -- and he scented their mate! It must be the new owner… and he was Wilder’s mate! As Thorn heard Wilder’s approach, he turned and was stunned to see the dark eyes he had been dreaming of seeing in the bushes. Wilder told him he didn’t want him to sell, that they could make it grand again with just a few repairs (well, maybe more than a few, but it was possible). When Wilder opens up to tell Thorn the truth, that he is a shifter and that Thorn is his mate, will Thorn be willing to accept life with a cougar shifter? Is Thorn ready to move to Cougar Lake and reopen the resort that they can manage together as a mated couple? Because it certainly seems that a HEA has been patiently waiting for these two!
Have you ever called a wrong number, been told as much or spoken to sharply and given up? Have you ever done the above more than once, to the same number, just to check it really was the wrong one? What about being the recipient, does it make you angry, simply mad, or leave you feeling unaffected?
It is a wrong number which precipitates a beautiful romance in Wrong Number, Right Cougar but only after Thorn surrenders to the news that he has an uncle and godfather he knows nothing of, who has died and left Thorn property, in the middle of nowhere (at least compared to his city life). In the city he has a condo, a job with a teeny office, the potential for a promotion and yet there is something calling him to learn more about this long lost relative and the property he left behind.
Wilder is a cougar shifter, he loves his quiet life in the semi-wilderness, the town is small but he has his home in the woods, he was working for the local lodge owner who he felt close to and he guides visitors. All is good. Then he learns of the passing of Old Man Blaze and of the long lost relative, a city man, who apparently wants to sell the resort, the land, build condos. But then he remembers what small town gossip is like and, add to that he feels the mating bond. What is going on for him? His cougar is convinced their mate is nearby, refuses to rest until Wilder finds his other half but how can it be this man from the city who knows nothing about shifters?
Two complete opposites come together in more than one surprising way in this charming story. It is a premise, has tropes we are familiar with if we are familiar with shifter stories and yet it still manages to feel fresh, different, unique. Its characters are strong, the storyline is fun, it is as refreshing for the reader and for the characters to be in the woodlands, putting their hands and skills to work, for the good of themselves and those around them. It is proof that we really should try not to make snap judgements and instead trust our hearts, minds and other halves!
This is book 5 in the Dial M for Mates series. Each book in this series is a standalone read. This book focuses on Thorn and Wilder. Thorn is an omega human who has a plan firmly in place to achieve success. Or at least an office with a window and a door. His carefully thought out plan is thrown in disarray when he is contacted by a lawyer in Cougar Lake. An uncle he didn't know about has left him a small resort. Originally he plans to just accept the gift and then list it to sell it. But the lawyer convinces him to check the property out in person first. Wilder is an alpha cougar shifter. He runs an outdoor experience company. In his spare time, he was a handyman for Thorns uncle. He loves Cougar Lake and hopes that the new owner won't tear the old resort down and put up condos. As with all small towns, the rumour mill is working overtime about what they all believe Thorn is going to do. Wilder is grumpier than his usual grumpy self when he meets Thorn due to what he believes are cold calls about him selling his home. He feels under threat from "city people". The calls were actually from Thorn trying to contact the realtor the lawyer told him about. Wilder doesn't really like people and he is dead set against "city people". So his world is upended when he meets Thorn and realizes that he is his fated mate. An omega from the city that doesn't know about shifters. How can this go wrong? This is their story. This is a cute, low angst read. The book is written well and is easy to read. Another enjoyable story in this series.

Each book in this series is always enjoyable, and each wrong number is a creative way to get into the meat of the book. When Thorn inherits an old lake resort from his unknown uncle/godfather, his initial instinct is to just sell it, but when he calls the number he has, the voice says not for sale and hangs up. Seems he needs to go to Cougar Lake and check it out for himself. The town and resort were known for the cougars in the woods interacting with the townspeople and visitors in the past, but Thorn has no idea that the cougars were actually shifters. At first, he thought it was more of a legend until he found actual photographs of visitors with the cougars. He gets an even bigger surprise and awakening when Wilder, the handyman he has fallen for, announces he is a cougar shifter and then actually does become a cougar!!! Instead of running away, Thorn embraces this side of his lover, being informed by Wilder that they are mates and asking Thorn if he wants to be mated to Wilder, to run the resort and later have a family. Things take their natural course after this, with the resort opening and a new family member on the way, working toward their HEA.
Interesting and entertaining characters, good world building with the resort, the work to get the cabins and amenities ready, and the embracing of Thorn, Wilder and the resurrected resort by the townspeople and shifter visitors from past years carrying on a tradition for their families, makes for an engaging read. A fun addition to the series.

'Part of me wanted it to be pages and pages long so that he’d have to stay here while I fixed everything— stay here while I slowly drew it out and kept him here longer and longer, with the hopes that one day he would just figure it all out and choose me as his one and only for always and forever. That one day preferably being today.'
I loved this book. Another fun addition to the Dial M for Mates series. Good world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Thorn and Wilder. This story was interesting in that the call wasn't because of an emergency. Thorn got a call that an uncle he never knew existed died and left him his small mountain resort. Unable to run it from afar, Thorn decided to sell it. Wilder was a cougar shifter and had been friends with Thorn's uncle as well as working for him; and sad that he was enough of a recluse that he didn't find out he died until a week after his passing.
It was a confusing first call between them until they met in person and realized who they each were. Thorn's attraction to Wilder was immediate and sizzling. But it was Wilder's grumpiness and chaotic thoughts about his new human mate- a "city slicker" who clearly knew nothing about shifters- that made me smile the most. Though to be fair, Thorn's sexy thoughts about Wilder made me smile, too. It's like neither could help themselves. A very fun romance and I couldn't wait to see them fall in love, see Wilder learn about shifters and how special Cougar Lake was, and what his decision would be regarding the resort. 5 stars.
Wrong Number, Right Cougar is Book Five in the ‘Dial M For Mates’ series. It's similar to the other books, it has a shifter alpha and a human omega, and a misdialed phone number. It's different because the phone call doesn't automatically lead to an alpha rushing to aid his omega, his fated mate. Omega Thorn lives a highly regimented life with a five year plan to success. His orderly life becomes quite disorderly when he inherits a mountain guest lodge from an uncle he had no idea existed. Alpha Cougar shifter, Wilder, is one of the last cougars in Cougar Lake. He enjoys his low ambition life and doesn't want it disturbed. Thorn and Wilder meet, they clash. They eventually fall in love. The fun part is the journey. We have grumpy/sunshine and city/country conflicts to get past. There's the obligatory 'Shifters are real?' conversation and of course, mpreg. Dunbar/Hart give us an original storyline to follow, but it does have all the familiar elements of the Dial M series. Quirky townies make for good secondaries. Great job with the worlbuild. I'm hoping that the authors will come back to Cougar Lake for more stories. A fun, quick read.

4- This book is part of a multi author mm shifter series. I did enjoy thia book which was told feom both mc's pov. However I wish the author did not mention one mc's name under the chapter title, due to the fact the author has a tendency to change from one pov to the other in a single chapter. Leaving the name out would clear that up.
I did like how Thorn and Wilder worked and found love with the other. Their initial phone contact was a a mixed up identity, wrong location/ subject one. Since this is a hea story for mates they do find that with little ones added in since this is an a/o story.
My three things I wished the author touched base on in at least the epilogue (10 years on), especially the first two points, since there is no mention of Thorn his dad in the epilogue at all which feels like a lack of storytelling for me. • Did Thorn or anyone else mention the shifters to his dad? • What happened to Noah and Thorn his dad their relationship? • What happened to Brett his friend Stiles, and did he at least (slightly) warm up to the new people and did he share his stories?.

Sometimes the wrong number will lead you to the right where you are supposed to be. Thorn a city omega through and through knows nothing about the mountains so when he learns he had an uncle who left him a resort in the mountains he thinks his life is thrown in off the rails in reality his life is right where it is supposed to be and one phone call to assist with selling the place he gets a growl unsure what to do. Wilder is a grumpy alpha cougar with a determination to protect the serenity of Cougar Lake so when an unknown number reaches out asking about selling the very resort of course it rubs him wrong and of course his goal is to put a stop to the sell so he heads over unbeknownst this will change both their paths. The moment he meets the city omega he knows he is his fated mate, but will his city stage bound mate stick around, will he be able to show him the beauty of the mountain to where he wants to stay, will he see the value of what his uncle left him, and has he found happiness?
I enjoyed this book and thought that it was another good addition to the Dial M for Mates Series. This is a book about fated mates so their relationship moves at warp speed. Thorn, a human omega from the city who inherits a resort in the mountains from an uncle he had no idea about. Taking time off work isn’t ideal but luckily the lawyer gives him a number of someone local that can hopefully help sell the place for him, but when he rings the number he gets growled at and told that selling isn’t an option and then hung up on. Thorn has no choice but to head to Cougar Lake to sort it all out.
This is where he meets Wilder, an alpha cougar shifter who was handyman for the resort and doesn’t want the place to be sold. What’s Wilder to do when the new owner of the resort turns out to be his human mate, who has no idea about shifters and therefore the bond that they share. I thought that they were cute together. How will Thorn take the news that not only are shifters real, that Wilder’s a cougar shifter and that they’re fated mates? I’ve already pre-ordered the next book, Wrong Number, Right Fox which I’m looking forward to reading it when it’s released. I’d recommend this book, series and authors to others.
Wrong Number, Right Cougar is the fifth book of the Dial M For Mates series by the always wonderful team of Colbie Dunbar and Lorelei M Hart. This is a sweet omegaverse romance, that involves the arrival of an adorable baby, that matches a cougar shifter alpha and a human omega who doesn't know about shifters at all.
There is something sweet and heart warming about the set up of this story from the start. Around the romance between human Thorn and cougar shifter Wilder, there is the idyllic smalltown mountain town setting with hints of good friends and found family.
Thorn is our window into the world around Cougar Lake and how things happen, as the city slicker who arrives after inheriting the small mountain resort from the estranged uncle he never knew. Wilder is the passionate local who loves his town but also longs for his mate and to build a family and a life with that mate.

In Wrong Number, Right Cougar, a serendipitous misdial leads a city-dwelling omega to inherit a rustic resort in the mountains. Upon contacting a local for assistance, he encounters a gruff alpha cougar shifter who is less than enthusiastic about selling the property. Their initial clash sets the stage for a heartwarming tale of unexpected connections, where fate intertwines their lives in the most unexpected ways.
The dynamic between the ambitious omega and the reclusive alpha cougar shifter is both entertaining and emotionally resonant. As they navigate the challenges of their newfound relationship, readers are treated to a story that celebrates the magic of unexpected love and the idea that sometimes, a wrong number can lead to the right connection.

This is the fifth book in the author’s Dial M for Mate series and features Wilder, a grumpy cougar shifter and Thorn, his human mate.
When Thorn received word that he’d inherited a resort from an uncle he’d never heard of, his first thought was to sell it as he worked in the city but when he attempted to call the realtor, instead he accidentally called the resort’s handyman. After calling and repeatedly being hung up on, Thorn packs up to go take care of it in person but when he meets the handyman, Wilder wasn’t quite the old man he was expecting.
I absolutely loved this book!! Wilder and Thorn were so good together! There was no drama, no angst and no third act breakup, just a sweet, hot, read and an adorable HEA. 5 stars!.

Oh, wow, these MCs did not get off on a great foot on the phone! A misunderstanding lead to Thorne having to personally drive to Cougar Lake to deal with his inheritance. All good though, as he net Wilder there. It also gave him a chance to get to know the uncle he never knew existed before his death. (Kind of sad, really.) Locals fear a condo development getting the land, and Wilder is determined to get Thorne to keep the property, but that's not the main reason. Nope, Thorne's his mate, but he has a limited amount of time to convince him of this before he's gone for good.
Honestly these two are so cute together, awkward at times as well. The story definately kept my attention the whole way through, with a few twists thrown in to keep it interesting. Things are certainly looking up at Cougal Lake!

This is a fluffy and cuddly story. It's a rom-com between omega human Thorn and alpha cougar shifter Wilder. They meet when Thorn goes to inspect the resort his late estranged uncle wills to him. Thorn is unaware of the existence of shifters. Wilder scents Thorn as his mate, but has to dance around the whole shifter issue. As a human, Thorn doesn't have enhanced abilities, so he doesn't understand why he's lusting for and so attracted to resort handyman Wilder. I enjoyed it and recommend reading this.
This is a really sweet story about Thorn, who is a human and inherit his uncles resort at Cougar Lake. he had never known he had an uncle who was also his godfather, but when he sees the resort, he thinks it’s gonna be too much work and wants to sell. he contacts Wilder who is a cougar shifter and used to work for his uncle. Wilder recognises that Thorn is his mate. I enjoyed this journey, these two go through and in there preparations to reopen the resort, they find family and friends alike in the local town and also they’re happily ever after.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and I am reviewing with my honest and fair opinion.
Fun! Thorn, omega on the cusp of living his best life, gets notified that he's inherited a resort from a relative he never knew. He calls, a number hoping to arrange selling the property. Wilder, alpha cougar answers and is put in a mood by the call. He disagreees with Thorn's plan and expresses his disagreement. Thorn must risk his job and travel to the new property to deal with the grump. Looks like plans to sell are under re-evaluation while meeting a mate and getting to know each other is a new adventure. Excellent addition to the series. Sweet story about expectations and dreams changing in unexpected ways. Nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Thorn was working hard to get the next promotion when he got the call from a lawyer that he inherited the resort when his uncle died, got a few days off. He thought that he was going to sell it but saw that there was work to get it ready and learns a lot about his uncle. Thorn called a number he thought was the realtor but Wilder answered instead and doesn’t want Thorn to sell. But he will help fixing the place up to be used and t get to bottom of a land war of his property. Wilder tells Thorn about the mate thing and things worked out.

Wrong Number, Right Cougar by Colbie Dunbar is a light-hearted and steamy romance that’s perfect for a weekend read. The story kicks off with a mistaken text that turns into something much more exciting. The age-gap relationship between the characters is handled with charm and humour, and the chemistry between them is sizzling.
The writing is easy to follow, and the pace keeps you turning the pages. There’s a nice balance of cheeky banter, heartfelt moments, and spicy scenes. It’s not too deep, but that’s part of its charm – just a fun, feel-good read with a bit of heat.

Thorn and Wilder story was interesting with a couple of surprises and another couple happy caused by a wrong number. What started rocky thanks to a misunderstanding ended being magical. They were an interesting couple, and I enjoyed some of their reactions, especially when the shifter side was revealed or when the birthing scene occurred. I liked the friends they made and their help in making their dreams come true, as well as the impact this place had on everyone’s future. I enjoyed the story, and I’m ready for the next adventure.
What should the human omega Thorn do with the Cougar Lake resort left to him by his uncle? The alpha cougar shifter Wilder loves the resort. His handyman and trail guide jobs have revolved around the needs of the resort for most of his life. Enjoy the awkward, emotion charged first contact between Thorn and Wilder, the way the beauty of Cougar Lake encourages Thorn to hang on to both the resort and Wilder, and the way these two give each other loving care along with steamy moments!!!
