Arianna Belmont will sacrifice everything to save her terminally ill love. Silas Belmont will protect his beloved no matter the cost. With their curse-bond solidified and their soul entwined, they’re determined to endure gruesome fates to preserve their mates.
Death lingers in the shadows, waiting to ensnare Silas. There is no cure to the wasting sickness ravaging his body. Teetering towards his demise, he would rather proceed to the Great Beyond than risk Arianna’s wellbeing or place his subjects in harm’s way. His martyrdom is her saving grace, keeping her hidden in Presspin far from those who’d collect the bounty on her head.
The world Arianna built in Belmont Manor is crumbling, with her blight and life spiraling out of control. Unwilling to accept Silas’s fate, she enacts a desperate measure to restore her husband by sending a raven requesting aid from an ex-disciple, unwittingly bringing doom to their doorstep.
Yet an unexpected hope arrives, when a mysterious stranger infiltrates Presspin with the promise of an antidote. Arianna must decide to trust the unscrupulous rogue or let her spouse die.
With a fight against time, will Arianna rush headlong into danger, throwing caution to the wind on a slim chance at a miracle, or will Silas force the pair to remain true to course, to safeguard his wife, leading to his fatality?
Find out in this twisted gothic snow white reimagined, Claiming the Curse, the second in the Aralian Series following the inaugural story, Unmasking the Curse.
Chelle Cypress is a voracious reader, mother, wife and anime enthusiast. As a child, Chelle dreamed of becoming a published author. Through hard work, many late nights, and copious amounts of coffee, she has finally achieved her dream of sharing the stories of her heart with the world. Chelle infuses her writing with themes from classic literature, regency romances, and fantasy. She enjoys blending the contents together in a novel that she hopes speaks to the hearts of her readers. Chelle has used writing as a therapeutic outlet which has helped her maintain her sobriety (7/30/21).
This is book 2 in the Aralian series and it is best read after reading book 1 Unmasking The Curse.
This instalment focuses on Silas who is close to death due to the wasting sickness and Ariana who is wanted by the Aralians but will do anything to find a cured for Silas putting her own life on the line.
I really liked the concept of the wasting sickness. Magical burnout is common in fantasy novels so I liked the twist of the added slow painful deterioration and the race against time to try and find a cure before he meets his demise.
Ariana goes on a gruelling journey and faces so many impossible choices. You’re hit with so many emotions and really feel connected to her.
Silas dips in and out of consciousness and I couldn’t help but find it funny as every time he woke his relief was immediately washed away when Ariana fills him in on what has happened whilst he has been out.
The first half of the book was fairly slow paced but it more than made up for it in the second half. Overall this was 4 ⭐️ for me. The last few chapters were intense and I am desperate to read the next instalment to see what happens next.
Starting off by saying the last third of this book absolutely flew by for me, and I loved the ending! But… I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as the first. The first 20 or so chapters felt a bit slow, but once things picked up, the emotional weight and depth really hit hard.
I felt everything Arianna and Silas went through and my heart ached for them. Especially Arianna, who shoulders so much throughout this story, trying to hold everything together while feeling like she’s losing more ground with every step. It was heartbreaking and powerful.
Definitely looking forward to seeing where things go next!
For fans of emotional fantasy romance, slow-burn tension, and resilient heroines.
As an ARC reader, I was thrilled to dive into Claiming the Curse, the second full novel in the Aralian Series (third installment overall if you count the novella). It officially releases November 1st, and let me tell you—this book is grittier, bloodier, and more emotionally raw than anything that’s come before.
Silas, our MMC, is suffering from Wasting Sickness—an ailment caused by overuse or draining of cursed power. With him on the brink of death, Arianna spirals, determined to find a last-chance cure no matter the cost. What follows is a descent marked by gore, desperation, and an increasing sense of isolation as her found family slips further and further away.
Arianna’s turmoil takes center stage. She doesn’t doubt her power—she wields it with terrifying ease—but she believes every tragedy is her fault. The book gives us unforgettable lines like:
“Every ounce of self-hatred I’d ever felt crashed over me like waves drowning the woman I had become” (p. 345).
“Now I teetered between who I once was and who I was always meant to become.” (p. 370).
Her spiral is relentless—hope curdles into fury, and grief becomes the engine driving her forward. By the final act, Arianna is no longer clinging to salvation but teetering on the edge of devastation, embracing a scorched-earth resolve to bring down the world that has taken everything from her.
The story also widens its scope. We’re introduced to The Opposition, a faction of ex-disciples who believe Arianna may be the key to toppling Aralian rule, adding political weight to the personal stakes. Several new characters bring welcome representation—sex work is shown positively and without stigma, and additional LGBTQIA+ characters are introduced with backstory that deepens their role without reducing them to their identity.
Chelle Cypress’ prose has matured with each installment. Even when the story turns dark and twisty, her writing remains compelling. I also appreciated that a major plot gripe from book one (Arianna hiding without an alias) was directly acknowledged here—it felt like the author winked at readers who caught it.
Overall, Claiming the Curse is an intense continuation—darker, richer, and more layered in both its world and characters. Arianna’s spiral into grief and fury makes this the most devastating installment yet, and it left me wrung out emotionally but desperate for more.
I didn't enjoy this one as much as I have its predecessors. For me, personally, it really dragged on until about chapter 26 or so. However, I do appreciate the slowing down in a specific term that was used a lot in book one during intimate scenes. Only once in this book and while it still made me cringe it was a lot easier to read. I am so sorry I just don't like the terms or
This is really Arianna's time to shine because Silas needs her. Silas is dying because of the curse. Which in part, I think is why I felt like it was so slow for me to read the beginning. It was very mournful in tone. A lot of instances of them talking about how he might die, if he dies, he is dying. To my brain it felt like I had just read that; not that I had. It's just the overall tone/themes were very similar and I think that's what slowed down the beginning for me.
ALSO I got a bone to pick because how you going to make my FAVORITE CHARACTER BRIELLE so infuriating. DARN IT. She's literally the most BA character in this series but I was ready to roll up my sleeves and give in to violence because girlie was PLAYING with my patience this book.
The ending was so interesting too. OUTSIDE OF THE DARN CLIFFHANGER. I kept checking how many pages I had left on my ereader and freaking out because only a handful were left and I was like--wait--no this is too close to the end. There's not enough time for a resolution. of course, there isn't because Chelle wanted us to squirm with the cliffhanger.
Also the whole promoting as a gothic snow white reimagined. SPOT ON. I can absolutely see it. I was like OMG that's so Snow White coded during a few scenes.
Just wait until you find out who this mysterious stranger is AND what other kind of magic there is in this world.
Solid 3.75 ⭐️ Read 1 🌶️ Level Before you read my review. I would like to preface it with the following:
The closing statement from the author that talks about her journey when she wrote this book helped me understand the chaotic thought structure of this book and that of our FMC. I appreciate her willingness to be open with her internal struggles while she was writing this book and I believe her to be brave.
My review:
Book 2 of the “Aralian” book series was a decent read for me. For some reason I had a hard time connecting with the first several chapters of the book. It was not like I did with book 1 and book 1.5.
I will say that during middle parts of the first section you will find the MMCs backstory and how his relationship with his father came to be. Which I found pretty intriguing and I won’t fault him for what he did. I would have done the same for my children.
There is a point in this book that the story line switches and it enraptured me to the point I finished reading it in 24 hours. Very similar to how book 1 and 1.5 grabs you and doesn’t let you go until the ending. That is when I connected not only with our amazing FMC, but the storyline as well. The twist and turns of the book just leaves you wanting to know more and more until you get the that ENDING that leaves you absolutely FERAL for the next installment is the series.
So yes this book starts off slow but stick with it because it does take you on a wonderful and dark journey that is full of chaos and heartbreak with a possible light shining through the end.
Claiming the Curse is the third book in the Arailian series and is just as amazing as the rest of them. This book captured my heart even more than the rest of them. This one follows Silas and Arianna once again. This dives more into Arianna and the self-loathing and this constant fight she has with feeling like a monster. I find myself wholly intrigued with how much and how accurate this depicts kind of the psychology that adults would deal with when they've basically been led to believe that their cursed monsters from Early childhood. One of my favorite things with Chelle's writing is that you find yourself so invested in the characters. And despite the fact that you're reading a romantasy, a fantasy based book, you don't sit there questioning things. It feels real. You feel invested. You feel like you're completely in this world that she's created. I would, without a doubt recommend this series. At the end, there's a snippet from the author and she refers to the book ending on "a violent cliffhanger". I wouldn't quite say violent. This does definitely end on a cliffhanger. I tend to read books before finding out whether they're complete series or not and this is not a complete series. However, I'm telling you, it is completely worth picking up now. Pick up all the books. Read this, get into this series. You're going to love it!
✨ ARC Review | Claiming the Curse by Chelle Cypress ✨ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
This sequel dives deeper and darker than Unmasking the Curse. Arianna and Silas’s love story twists into tragedy and devotion as Silas battles a wasting illness and Arianna’s desperation pushes her to impossible choices.
The pacing starts slow, but the emotional impact builds until the last third hits like a storm. I was absolutely wrecked by the ending—heart pounding, screen-tapping, realizing there just weren’t enough pages left.
Arianna’s grief, guilt, and growing power make her one of the most compelling heroines I’ve read this year. Chelle Cypress’s writing has evolved beautifully—lush and lyrical even in its bleakest moments. The expanded world, the new morally gray characters, and the sense of rebellion on the horizon make this installment unforgettable.
If you love:
gothic fairytale retellings
tragic, devoted lovers
emotional fantasy with real bite
…then Claiming the Curse will break you and heal you all at once.
I'm at an utter loss for words. The end of book 1 was one heck of a cliffhanger. I impatiently awaited book 2 knowing it would be just as special as the first book. I was not disappointed. Our opening forward to book two reads like a hysterical soap opera and I was beyond here for it. I Don't ever remember laughing this hard reading a recap in my life, but it was absolute gold! The rest of the book is like a sucker punch to my soul. I was on the edge of my seat. Gnawing at the non existent nails I no longer have left on my fingers. Chelle has ripped out my heart and stomped on it, thrown it in a blender and put it in an ice tray for later use. Like book one this story is not yet finished. There is still more to come, but man oh man was this journey a roller coaster ride of emotions. Well done! I look forward to the next installment and what happens in the epic finale of this story.
Claiming the Curse is book two in the Aralian series. The emotional typhoon this book took me through was incredible. I loved every minute!
Silas and Arianna are taken on an extraordinarily hard journey to save Silas from his illness. There are so many new and exciting characters along the way, and so many side characters with amazing potential for future books in the series.
The plot for Claiming the Curse follows the journey of both Silas and Arianna as well as expanding on the past and hinting at what is to come. Chelle does an amazing job weaving this story in a way that is a thrilling fantasy while also bringing that classic fairytale vibe.
If you haven’t started this series yet you are missing out on what could be one of your top series ever. I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Once again, Claiming the Curse proved to be an amazing journey, but calling it "just amazing" doesn't do justice to the sheer emotional power packed into these pages. I was completely blindsided by the twists and turns! Every time I thought I had a handle on where the story was, Chelle Cypress yanked the rug right out from under me. This isn't a book you read casually; it’s one you feel in your bones. The ending didn't just wrap up a story—it exploded the narrative, leaving me in a state of wonderful, agonizing uncertainty. I finished the last page with a pounding heart and a head full of more questions than I started with. If a book's job is to leave a lasting mark and make you desperate for the next installment, then Claiming the Curse is a masterpiece. It's truly a powerful and unforgettable reading experience.
I was completely swept away by this story. Arianna and Silas’s love feels raw and desperate, the kind of bond that makes you ache right alongside them. The curse, the sickness, and the looming threat of death create such a tense atmosphere that I could hardly put the book down.
What I loved most was Arianna’s determination—she refuses to let fate win, even when her choices might bring doom closer. Silas, on the other hand, is the perfect tragic hero, willing to sacrifice everything for her safety. Their dynamic is heart-wrenching yet beautiful.
If you enjoy gothic romance, star-crossed lovers, and emotional stakes that feel life-or-death (because they are), this book will absolutely grip you. I’m still thinking about it long after turning the last page.
I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and will voluntarily be giving my honest review. This was an emotional roller coaster. From the start it had my heart to the very end!! The love Arianna and Silas have for each other is just phenomenal!! I love this couple. I cant wait to see how the final book turns out!!
“With a fight against time, will Arianna rush headlong into danger, throwing caution to the wind on a slim chance at a miracle, or will Silas force the pair to remain true to course, to safeguard his wife, leading to his fatality?
Find out in this twisted gothic snow white reimagined, Claiming the Curse, the second in the Aralian Series following the inaugural story, Unmasking the Curse”
Wow, this book completely hooked me! Claiming the Curse had me staying up way too late because I just had to know what would happen next. Chelle Cypress did such a good job blending fantasy, magic, and romance in a way that felt fresh and addictive.
The characters really stood out to me flawed, strong, and so easy to connect with. The tension between them was chef’s kiss and the emotional moments hit hard without ever feeling overdone. The world-building was also super vivid. I could easily picture everything as if I was right there.
It’s the kind of story that gives you a little bit of everything: danger, longing, mystery, and hope. I honestly didn’t want it to end, and I’m already itching for more from this world. Highly recommend if you love fantasy romance with heart.
I have sat here for roughly half an hour to an hour and I still can't find the words for this review. All I can say is just...wow! I loved this one more than the 1st one. it's just as magical and truly moves like a movie in your mind. This one is a little darker and not as happy as the 1st one. Keep that in mind while reading. It wouldn't be a truly good story if all of them were identical! I adored all the different characters that were introduced in this one, and I hope to see them again in future novels.
simply put...well done Chelle. I am glad your hope is at the end of your tunnel again!
You know that time when you were a kid playing dodgeball on the playground and the balls kept coming and they just keep hitting you? Well, Claiming the Curse is like playing dodgeball, just one thing after the next & it doesn't stop.....sadness, anger, rage, love...deep committed love, death & despair, reveals, betrayals, race against time, and so much more....I will admit it hurt, but in a good way, a beautifully written way, and I am here for the emotional journey that Chelle Cypress is giving us. I am looking forward to the next books, really hoping our characters get a happily ever after....please? I relieved an arc of this book and all opinions are my own.
Claiming the Curse* This is a gripping gothic fantasy. Arianna Belmont risks everything to save her terminally ill love, Silas, whose wasting sickness threatens to claim him. Their curse bond deepens, entwining their souls as they face dark secrets, a mysterious stranger offering an antidote, and looming death. Cypress weaves a dark, romantic tale with a unique magic system and intense soulmate lynamics, set in a richly atmospheric world. compelling read for fans of twisted fairytales and gaslamp fantasy, it delivers passion and peril.
WOW! I’m so ready for the next book Chelle did an amazing job on picking up where Unmasking the Curse ended. I was on a roller coaster of emotions while reading. I was like don’t trust him, oh no it’s a trap, what’s I with this woman, he did set them up but way, he’s going to die saving her, WHAT! NO! NO! NO!, everyone is going to pay now, what’s happening, and then CHELLE! And then at the end of the book I was alright I didn’t see that coming. Needless to say I ready for the next book. Great job bravo.
Okay, I have one complaint. I was not warned that it would be ended on a cliff hanger!!! (I guess I just spoiled that) As soon as I finished, I reached out to learn the status of book 3. Chelle continues to write an amazing story, love these characters so much. Arianna is so complex, so unique. It’s refreshing. Chelle is an incredible world builder, an amazing storyteller. You won’t be bored reading her books. I would recommend to anyone who is a Romantasy reader or a fan of fairytale retellings.
**I was gifted an ARC by the author in exchange for my honest feedback which is being freely given!**
I was LITERALLY one the edge of my seat the entire time trying not to stress about what would happen next (to no avail). The ending is soooo good and makes me wish I had the next book in my hands RIGHT THIS SECOND! Can't wait to see what happens next!!!!!!
Also, reading the novella between books 1 and 2 is essential to understand one specific relationship in this one, so don't skip it! It also just so happens to be really good as well!
I don’t even know where to start with this book—I’m still in shock. As with every book in this series, the writing is fabulous and the characters? Absolute chef’s kiss.
But the story… oh, the story. Be warned: not since Zodiac Academy have I been this emotionally traumatized by a series. The pain. The suffering. The screaming into the void.
Was it worth it? Probably. Will I do it again when the next book comes out? Absolutely.
I was ecstatic to receive the second book as an ARC. Let me tell you I loved every second of it! Getting back into the world of the Aralians and seeing the outcome of Silas and Arianna. I did not want to put this one down. I was glued to every page. I am still in shock with some of the new elements of this book and getting a bit more of a back story on Arianna and Silas’ lives and how they became cursed. I was definitely not expecting that ending and now I NEED the next book!
These poor characters go through so much in this book and I don't mean just the MMC and FMC but I mean everyone. This will take you on an roller coaster of emotions. This is a dark fantasy, so you have been warned. The magic system is very interesting along with the gods and goddesses. The ending of this book took me for a spin and will leave you hoping the next release comes quickly because you will be left shattered.
4.6 stars. What?!!! Don’t worry … no spoilers here but !!!!!! It started off a bit slow but really picked up around the halfway point. I read the author notes and am not happy that there is just one more book ! Yes, 🙌 I know there will be a novella and a story which look intriguing but I’m a vested int this story …..
Holy crap Chelle! I have absolutely no words for what I’ve just read! I need the next book!!!! I don’t want to give away any part of the this book! This whole series is one of my favorites! Though there is a part I’m mad about and I’m sure you know which part it is! Great story and I highly recommend!
Umm, I don’t know how to feel about this ending 🫣 But i enjoyed this book so much, from the complex relationships to the incredible character development! Chelle’s writing has truly grown & her writing style is beautiful! I’ve been in love with these characters since book one & I fall more in love with them each book. I can’t wait for the next one!!!!!!!
wooooooow! I loved book 1 so of course book 2 is a must read! However, the writing is so much more emotional and pulling in a way that will have you flying through the pages and trying not to cry every other chapter because you are so very emotionally involved!
Chelle hit it out of the park in this second book. But dang the cliffhanger was shocking. This is the continuation of the story of Silas and Arianna their journey to find a cure for their curse. It was an incredible story with love and death and betrayal. With an ending that makes you want more.
ARC review Book 2 I enjoyed getting back into this world and delving more into the characters. I love the dual POV.. Chelle has a way of pulling you into the story to where you won't want to put the book down. The ending though......I will need the next one immediately.
5 ⭐ I loved this! Though I just couldn't stop crying throughout the book. And I definitely was not expecting that ending 😭. I can't wait to read the next and final book.
I'd like to thank the author for giving me this opportunity to ARC read this wonderful novel!💕
