I really enjoyed the plot of this book and for the most part the characters, but the constant bickering and to an extent bullying that goes on between them all gets a bit too much after a while. It is in almost every chapter where someone makes digs for several paragraphs about someone else or makes fun of them in some way and they just don't seem to take no as an answer! I found this amusing at the beginning of this series, but now it's getting to seem more like page fillers when it should be about the plot.
That said, I loved the way Paige's miniature size was finally dealt with, how much closer they seem to be at finding Reed, the mini adventures that they had to go on in between the main story arc - loved the Super Mario realm! I loved how Paige seems to be developing new powers, albeit very slowly. And that ending was a shock - not a complete surprise, but I really didn't expect it to happen!
I am jumping straight into the next book to see what happens (and hope that the bickering/bullying diminishes somewhat!). I just hope Paige's powers develop more as well if she manages to find her spark!
Love the story line. Love the characters but….. The incessant bickering between two of the characters became mind numbing after 8 to 10 pages at a time. The literal same back and forth about the same subject is really off putting for me. It was fine I the first two books but by the fifth, it’s making me rethink going forward.
📚 Book Review 📚 Shadow Curses By Nellie H. Steele ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Shadow Curses is book six in the Shelving Magic Series and continues the quest of Paige (the special, magic librarian) and Dewey(her teacup dragon partner) to find Paige’s mother and bring her home safely, With the help of another librarian, Drucinda, and her other allies, they begin their unpredictable mission. One small problem makes the venture more complicated, Paige, from a previous assignment, has been shrunk to six inches tall, limiting her involvement until they can find a remedy. Determined to go on by following a lead, the group sets off, only to be detoured from their mission to track down a deadly artifact. The deadly dangers the group encounters and the terrifying new realm, similar to that of an old, popular video game, may end their mission before it can be completed. I thought this book in the series was thrilling, with abundant action, suspense, and tension to keep the reader mesmerized for hours. The world-building was fabulous and the characters were remarkable. The plot was well-developed, and when the author added the realm based on the well-known video game, I thought that was very inventive. Although the mood was sometimes dark, the author instilled a generous amount of fun and clever dialogue to make the story enjoyable. Inter-character relationships were also a high point of the story, with some strong emotions intertwined to enhance the atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to Paige's next adventure. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Readers Copy
This is an entertaining urban fantasy adventure series. A fun cast of characters in an entertaining storyline. Think librarians plus warehouse 13+ a little bit of supernatural stir together create an adventure and begin. Paige Turner is a librarian at a library where they seek out dangerous paranormal And strange artifacts. There are a number of libraries just like it around the world in a group with the librarian and each one usually deals with whatever’s closest to them in cases. Some of the better go out after the major paranormal artifacts. Paige Turner and her partner Dewey are one of those such teams. Read and see where their adventure runs this time.
Why is it that the MC who is supposedly 35 acts like she is 18/20 ish? There has been no growth for her character. It's the same tired jokes over and over.
Shadow Curses is book 6 in the Shelving Magic by Nellie H Steele. At the end of book 5, Paige was only 6 inches... she has not grown between books 5 and 6. This author knows how to write exciting stories with fabulous characters. Paige and her teacup dragon, Dewey, among other friends are looking for her mother and trying to tip toe around bad guys! I love this series and I believe that it is awesome fantasy. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
