Maddock AND Bones. Back Together! And Taking On A Civil War Mystery! This is what I love to see from Wood. Both Dane Maddock and Uriah 'Bones' Bonebrake back together again solving archaeological mysteries and kicking ass when needed.

The mystery - and adventure - here are awesome for this Son of the South who frequently notes how the Civil War is literally still visible in my home region between Atlanta and Chattanooga... and it isn't even hard to find in that particular region. While this mystery starts in Virginia, it does in fact also find itself in a location I've been to a few times - even taken a date or two out there, *many* years ago. Atlanta's Stone Mountain Park, home of the largest bas-relief sculpture in the world... and site of many anti-Confederacy protests over the years.

But even if you're not from the Southern United States and haven't grown up with this history all around you (as only certain regions of even the South have), the mystery here is still top-notch, and the action is even better. If you like say National Treasure, the 2000s era movie where Nic Cage steals the Declaration of Independence... now imagine Nic and his best friend are both former US Navy SEALs, with action - and danger - ramping up to challenge even them.

Ultimately this was the same type of dangerous (for the characters) yet fun (for the reader) action/ adventure tale that makes this series so excellent, and this was yet another truly great entry in this long running series.

Very much recommended.

Another good tale of Maddock and Bones. Good story line too. There was a part towards the beginning of the book that didn’t sound like the usual writing of David Wood but in the end the story picked up and this duo succeeded in the end with the help of a few trusted friends and a few bruises.
The editing needed to be better. Quite a few mistakes. Like fir example the Patek watch became Patel…… All in all a good read. And I do recommend the reading of this series.

Sneaky little rebels

As always Dane and Bones do not disappoint. The action, The intrigue, the treasure hunting, all my favorites Of David Woods stories. I love these 2 guys! I wish and hope that he will make more stories about them they have to get this devil fish guy So there's got to be another book coming out soon I hope. The only thing I don't like about this book it was too short I read it in 1 day.

The description prompted me to get this on hoopla during a lull in new releases. That said, I abandoned it barely on quarter in. First the character name of Bones Bonebrake was just laughable, second the writing style just couldn't get me interested in the book even though I like treasure hunting.

Problem

The book did not explain why the main relic for Abraham Lincoln was transported approximately 30 miles west instead of 20miles north in an area controlled by Union Forces since the beginning of the war! Still this lifelong Virginian and historian liked the plot and would recommend this book to anyone.

Another good instalment in the Maddock Universe series. A story about confederate gold and lots of twists and turns to the point you think they might have met their match. Really enjoy David’s writing looking forward to the next.

Excellent Read

David Woods stories are always very good read. The Dane Maddock series are worth starting at book one up to the current. Bones and Maddock's adventures are all well written and entertaining.

The story line had more holes than swiss cheese. I hate to be so negative about it, but the tale is just too unrealistic and predictable to keep my interest. I would rank Hardy Boy and Nancy Drew mysteries above this one. Sorry but a swing and a miss.
