Imprisonment

Rate this book
In this heartfelt volume, author and poet Kevin Potter lays bare his heart and soul (in sorrow, rage, and sometimes joy) in this collection of 49 poems written between 2006 and 2014. Largely themed by his experiences during the tumult and trauma of having been torn from his family amidst false criminal allegations, they are primarily centered around the themes of love, loss, retribution, and the power (and denial) of fate.

Here's what one Amazon reviewer had to say about

Truthful, Harsh, Melodic

The author lays his soul on the pages with this book of songs. They are very lyrical and most are rhyming or near rhyming each with a rhythm/beat that makes reading them easy. With that being said, it's probably better to read them aloud to feel the "music" in the writings.

The author is very bold in his exploration of his own life and the events that sparked these songs. In his words, he hopes that they bring comfort to those that read it.

As a poet, I can appreciate my contemporaries writings, and I commend each of them when they lay their pens out on the pages in truth. This author's truth was not one that I could relate to intimately, and his brass language (I should mention here this is not suitable for children, as there more than a handful of curse words) was off putting at the beginning of the work.

However, as I continued I found his "softer" side when he ventured into the subject matter of love and love lost. One I really enjoyed was Perceptions, with lines like "Even though it's only been two days, I already feel as though we've gone our separate ways, It's been less than a day since I last saw you, It's strange what your perceptions can do"

Another was The Day After, "All the thoughts of yesterday, and all the emotions running high, come flowing to today, can't help but embrace it with a sigh"

I'd love to see this author find his muse in love, when he's writing of love whether lost or found, his muse really touches me. But overall, I'm glad I didn't stop reading at the profanity. Nice Write, and I recommend.

Kevin Potter is an award-winning fantasy author who enjoys spending time masquerading as dragons larger than some cities. He’s fond of discussing the origination of his fantasy series, which was the result of taking seriously the adage, “If you can’t find what you want to read, write it.”

Although somewhat of a recluse, he actually loves interacting with readers on any platform they happen to frequent, though of late he mostly avoids traditional social media in favor of the reader/writer-centric Substack.

Speaking of which, you can get free stories, samples, and be the first to know what he’s working on by subscribing to his Substack at http://dragonauthor.substack.com
