The Academy is still rebuilding after the primordial monster attack last semester. Dirk is ready to get back to training and raising his monster bond, but the ArchTamer has other plans for him.
Whisked away to the Sea Capitol, Dirk will face new challenges and threats in the form of wild monsters, Domineer plots, and the mysterious Order of the Keystone.
A storm of unimaginable strength is on the horizon, and hidden danger lurks in the ocean depths. Joined by his friends and his quirky, blueberry-loving monster Vee, Dirk will have to train and grow much stronger if he’s to have a chance at being ready for what’s to come.
If you love monster-catching stories similar to Pokémon, unlockable elemental magic abilities, and Weak to Strong Progression LITRPG fantasy novels, Monster Tamer Academy is for you.
I want to love it, but the writing is so cheesy and the dialogue so predictable. however I can't bring myself to give it any less than 3 stars. the LITrpg (genre?) is still new to me but kinda fun in that it reflects video games so much that you get to see their stats.
There's certainly typos and errors present in this book but it just sort of adds to the indie charm.
Riddle me this, how come at the climax of the last book dirk managed to merge two primordial commands together to form a new one and that was never even mentioned in this book?? especially when he needed more and couldnt figure anything out?? my brother in Christ you created one like a month ago, and when you and your monsters are in peril, your telling me the thought just never occurred to you to even combine the same ones that worked last time?? the plot twist with the levee was fun but about the only thing I didn't see from a mile away.
Still, I'm a sucker for a story with elemental powers and animal companions so it was fun enough.

Just get a load of Dirk and his companions Vee the Shadow Monster Fruit Bat, Storm his Wind Monster Horse, and Trinket his Shadow Monster Monkey. And all of 'em are dedicated to helping him! Boy does the second semester start with a bang. After being bottlenecked for a while he immediately started leveling again... like ummm three levels in two days! Then there's this super secret mission that he and his team and his mentor were sent on... So get to admissions and enter Monster Tamer Academy to find out where everybody is and start leveling! In other words get the book...
These are children's books (ages 9-12 approximately)
Despite the main characters being young adults, these books are assuredly suitable for elementary to middle school children. The low rating is not a reflection of this fact. I rate it low because the story has a distinct lack of substance or direction. The characters and their personalities are bland and uninspired. There's not a real plot in play either. Probably a reflection of the joint author endeavor which never seems so work out well in the books I've read where this is the case. Disappointing because the world created in these books had far more promise than was delivered.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and engaging. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and entertaining. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book and series are definitely worth checking out.
The book doubles down on the worst kind of power-imbalance trope: god-mode villains and a hero who stays oblivious to whatever the plot needs him to miss. It reads less like tension and more like wheel-spinning.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
