Moving On by Ash Penn

Cody’s trying to move on from an abusive past relationship. New neighbor Greg is the ideal man to show him how.

It’s moving day for Cody and his sister Justine. Cody’s hoping for a fresh start in a new town. He wants to remember what it is to be young, single and alive. Most of all, he wants to move on from a toxic relationship that’s resulted in crippling panic attacks, which severely limit his ability to live his life as he wishes.

Greg Foster’s boyfriend left him six months ago and he’s still recovering from the humiliation and pain of their break up. When he introduces himself to his new neighbor, he senses an instant attraction to the aloof young man who can barely meet his eye one moment, yet is ready to jump into bed with him the next.

Cody soon realizes his mistake in sleeping with Greg. The man isn’t one-night-stand material, and it would be unfair to lead him into something more. Cody doesn’t feel capable of having a relationship. He’ll certainly never love anyone again.

Despite Cody’s constantly shifting moods, Greg sees through to the person he wants to know. All he has to do is convince Cody to give them the chance to find happiness in each other.

About the
I've written stories about men loving men for as long as I can remember. In the days before computers and the internet, I used to hide my stories away convinced there was no market for women who wrote gay male fiction. Fast forward a few years (okay, quite a few years) and there's not only a market, but a whole empire out there for writers like me. I'm thrilled to be able to contribute my stories and take pride in what I write.

Many of my characters enjoy making my life as difficult as possible by refusing to take the easy pathway to love. They prefer to swagger through the undergrowth and laugh at me as I point at my story outline and demand they get back on the route I painstakingly mapped out.

Lately I've discovered it's far easier to let them dictate what happens and when, although I do get my revenge when it comes to giving them an undesirable trait or two to contend with. My characters are as flawed as their love lives, but they will usually find a kind of imperfect perfection in each other by the time I type 'The End'.

The blurb does a big job of setting up the story. Cody is so very damaged. Unfortunately we never truly learn the details behind his trauma. Cody's husband was abusive; we learn fairly early that he killed himself.

The 2 star rating is not a reflection on the writing. I gave 2 stars because the story in my opinion is not finished. Too many questions were left unanswered. I wanted to know more.

I really connected with this couple. But it makes me sad that the ending felt shortened, as if a couple extra chapters were missing. I really needed to see more of them...
