Winter vacation is over, and there's no time to lose. The third semester kicks off with the announcement of the "Survival Elimination Special Exam," a battle between the four classes! They will face off against each other in various subjects to see who reigns supreme. But this isn't any ordinary exam: fail to snatch first place, and your class's points will be slashed! With the stakes this high, nobody can afford to hold back!
Just last Saturday was Red Panda Day and I want justice for these poor animals after what Ayanokouji did to them!
Anyway, let's talk about this volume. I was a bit disappointed in this one as there was nothing that peaked my interested except the special exam, the results and the outcome of it. For instance, the second chapter was just about how bad Ibuki's cooking skills were and another one was how Ichinose developed for the worst. I wish Ayanokouji would have answered that she is indeed acting repulsive 'cause what she did was not acceptable and trying to make a joke out of it or using some excuse won't do it. She is just horrible. But I never liked her in the first place, so it's not like I lost some character that I held dear to me. I never understood why so many people in the fandom like her, but then I remembered that she is a fanservice character. Her way of thinking hurts to see as she can't save everyone and her overly good personality is just a facade. She showed her true self to everyone, but I have the feeling like she still hides herself. When will the moment come that she starts to act ruthless and merciless and stop holding on to wishful thinking?
Even though I mentioned above that the special exam was the only thing that peaked my interest it's not entirely true. The Survival and Elimination special exam felt a bit rushed and like nothing seriously interesting happened. Although at some point it was supposed to make the reader feel tense, I didn't feel it at all. So, this special exam was not that amazing compared to previous ones. Though the moment my interest was peaked was how Ayanokouji behaved in this special exam as I didn't expect this.
I noticed that Horikita developed even further now, seeing how she responded to a particular question Ayanokouji asked. There was also a very short (too short in my opinion) moment that was so wholesome between them that I desperately hoped to see an illustration about this, but unfortunately none was provided to the reader. I really would have loved to see that short moment being illustrated, I would hang it up on my wall!
The ending made me curious to know what Ayanokouji meant with his last thought and I appreciated it a lot that he finally helped Sakayanagi to develop too. After all, all the leaders and follow classmates developed throughout the time they enrolled in Advanced Nurturing High School. My only concern is that Sakayanagi might started developing too late as she is already falling back and her newfound emotions might be in her way in the future.
very fun special exam! The Last thoughts of ayanokouji in this volume a very intriguing... as always I assume. hyped for July when the next translation will come out!
Once again the second-half of the volume carries. I loved this special exam not for the content (it was kind of similar to a lot of things done already) but for the events during and after. I enjoyed all of the Pov's from the different class leaders. The psychological elements and the dynamics of the different classes make this series shine. It has an amazing cast of characters in my opinion. I loved all of the character dynamics. You see developing relationships between Ibuki, Horikita and Kushida & Ayan with multiple characters. Ayan's goals and motives are revealed he mainly wants everyone in all of the classes to grow and for the competition to graduate from Class A to be a close race. I am so excited for the next volume! Waiting for the official translations is worth it because Year Three is going to be such a long wait anyways.
My favorite quote was "If love were something special that could be achieved by making a calculation or two, then I wouldn't have spent much time on it."
AH O AYANOKOJI SORRIU HORIKITA GOAT

This volume was more focused on the special exam but also the things around so it was pretty balanced. And there was a moment i was super excited. That is Ayanokoji smiling without realizing with Horikita in a cafe. That was pretty interesting huh? Maybe he is healing bit by bit and maybe he will experience emotions. It also looks like his dissatisfaction with Kei is growing and it looks like he is planning to end it soon. And he is getting closer and closer to Ichinose and she is changing bit by bit. It was also interesting to see Sakyanagi regarding Kamuro as a friend and being sad about her expulsion. Well im curious about the next volumes and now thst ryuenn won the exam, the rankings will be definitely strange so what will happen with Horikitas class?

Volume stupendo.
Out of all the Classroom of the Elite light novels, this one felt like a bit of a snooze fest for me. Nothing particularly interesting happens, and there’s not much going on with Ayanokoji. It felt a little underwhelming overall, and the special exam was honestly dull and came off as pretty generic.
It was pretty good despite the special exam not being very interesting in itself. We got to see more POVs than usual and I didn’t predict the results. Looking forward to seeing how year 2 ends.
A couple of flashes of solid concepts here, especially relating to Koenji and Arisu, but other than that, the aspects that have made this story so good in the past are still absent. The exam was fine but honestly it felt as though Kinugasa’s retrospective explanations were just weak in this volume. I understand the point in focusing on the important characters surrounding Koji but another volume where he does practically nothing was definitely disappointing to me, especially because no one fills the space that he leaves. I think the new spin on Ichinose as this more cunning character that retains a strong set of values is interesting, but the potential ‘flaws’ that can inevitably arise with her narrowing her scope to only ensure her own class avoids expulsion, would need much more exploration and probably a character like Ayanokoji or even Ryuen to act as the foil to her new mindset in order for her to develop well. Hashimoto has the potential for goat status off this volume, he’s the most consistent ‘minor’ character in terms of identity so far and he’s actually doing something interesting in the plot which is much appreciated.

this one was surprisingly good! the special exam was simple but the strategies playing out in real time with all the reactions were really exciting. gotta wait another few months for vol 11!!
