They find a solace in each other. Trust and love soon blossom and their only obstacle is her vindictive, bloodthirsty, devil of a brother who will do anything to tear them apart.
I am usually into Scottish medieval romances and this book marked a detour for me as I venture into the Wales. Well, no regrets there.... I enjoyed the story and I think it's a good one for fans of the historical genre. It felt a little bit rushed to me and everything seemed to happen in a matter of days, but I loved the lack of over the top angst between the two heroes. I need to read more about this Welsh people and their language...
This was such a wonderful book to read. Full of excitement and wonderful romance. Characters were so well fleshed out all of them even secondary characters and the villain was truly nasty. Highly recommended.
Aghhh I just loved this hero!! He was so stern and sweet and a bit awkward and sometimes uncertain and yet still powerful and alpha. I freakin swooned when he wasn’t a manwhore but has been celibate for years and has only had a handful of transactional sexual experiences. He tried wooing a woman once and he had feelings for her, but it didn’t end well. Usually I hate “hero loved before” trope but hero admits that he never loved the other woman, he was more attached to her children and grieves the loss of a family and belonging when it fell thru. I get the feeling he was more in love with the IDEA of love than actually being in love with her.
I also really liked that the heroine wasn’t a modern heroine shoved into a historical romance for no rhyme or reason; she actually fit into her time period and story wasn’t just using the historical setting as a backdrop.
There’s a lot of drama and action around the insane brother of the heroine and lots of on page scenes with the heroine being hit by him, but she finds her strength and the brother’s comeuppance was glorious. Beware: this book does have gore!
Safe. Hero has been celibate and was never a manwhore. Details of his past are about how little he has one. Heroine is a virgin and belongs only to her hero. No ow drama and some very minor OM drama, although it’s not between h and OM. No cheating, no sharing, no abuse between MCs. HEA with epilogue years later with kids.
First off I’ll say to me this book was amazing. The problem is that it’s difficult for me to write a review. I love the vulnerability I see within Keller since he is such a confident knight, yet has this hidden side that only Crystobel seems able to access and bring out. Crystobel comes from a very dysfunctional family at the mercy of her irrational, narcissistic brother with a love for pain & violence. This is a wonderful story you can’t help but be touched by. Can love conquer all? Seems so. ❤️
Once again, I’m captivated by this author-narrator team. I had the opportunity to listen to this audio twice. Second time around, it was just as exciting and suspenseful as the first. A great production from start to finish. Ms. Le Veque’s stories intensify emotions with her captivating plots. She brilliantly draws the reader/listener emotionally--hook, line and sinker. You love, laugh, hate, stomp your feet, and ultimately draw swords and daggers, ready to do battle, alongside hero and heroine.
Nether Castle, located in Ireland, is controlled by Gryffyn, a madman, son to the Laird. Griffin is ill-pleased with his father who’s recently traded his keep and lands and his sister’s hand in marriage to a knight of William Marshall’s choosing, Sir Keller. He terrorizes his father and two sisters. He takes great pleasure watching them beg for mercy.
In fact, Gryffyn is ill-pleased with both sisters, as well. His youngest sister, Izlyn, now 12, has known fear and terror since her mother birthed her. She’s been thrown in the dungeon countless times by her brother. At a young age, Izlyn stopped speaking, further angering her brother. All comes to a head when the new owner of Netherworld, Sir Keller, arrives at the castle.
The prologue drops the reader into violence and anger, scarcely leaving room to breathe. After the furious fight, all is put to rights. I can breathe again, but very dramatically the tables are turned and the impossible happens. This cliff hanger sucked the air from the room once again. Chapter one takes us back in time to the day before. Now we find what leads up to this gut-wenching moment.
Sir Keller is a great knight. His battle field strategies have carried him to the point in this story. He finds he’s to marry a woman 21 years younger, Chrystobel. Frankly, he’s not interested. That is, he’s not interested until he happenstance meets her outside the gates of the keep before he’s introduced. Life isn’t looking too bad after all. Sir Keller is very shy with women, but she intrigues him. His stance of protection and kindness to these two abused women softens my heart. His love, tenderness and concern for Chrystobel and her sister charm the most hardened heart. The rest of his fellow knights (very interesting men—can’t wait to hear stories about them) understand what the girls have incurred in their lives. They are ready to defend them with their lives.
Both Chrystobel and Izlyn are very skittish. Their brother has been abusive for so many years, they expect a heavy-hand from men in general. These girls learn a lesson from Griffin. They learn men cannot be trusted, rather they need to be feared. Just as I think Gryffyn has been cornered, his reign of terror can be not more, he connives his way into the keep. His sole aim? To kill and take what is his.
Narrator Brad Wills pulls the story’s action from its pages, wraps us in the turmoil of evil. I enjoyed experiencing the girls’ hesitancy. I love how he captures the timidity of Chrystobel, his marvelous job in conveying her fear of telling the truth and what it may cost her. Within a battle, he takes me there – the quickened pacing of words and tone, produces the desired effect. Tension builds in my chest like a spring wound tighter and tighter.
Come to Netherworld to experience true evil and true love. You won’t be quite the same when you depart.
Sir Keller de Poyer has been rewarded lands and a title in Wales for his meritorious service...this also comes with a women he must marry. Keller is a older man about 41 years and he has been award with women after being promised to a widow whose husband shows back up. Keller was attached to the widow children and has never gotten over the hurt of that deception. So when he meets his 'new' wife Chrystobel he is quickly attracted to her but is slow to trust her. After just some hours there at the house/property he finds that the father is slow to come out of hiding, his future wife has a bruise on her face, the brother is abusive in his words to others. When Keller confronts the brother with Keller taking over and to set him strait on his abusive behavior, the brother attracts Chrystobel. We find out that the family is scared and abuse by the brother and has threaten to kill them if Chrystobel does not killer her new husband. Chrystobel decided to tell her new husband of all the things that her brother has done and wants done in hopes he can save them. Keller has started to have his hard heart chipped away by Chrystobel and her young sister. This was a really great read! I loved it! It does have some more violence then some books, and it does have less sexual content but it does have a lot of emotional feelings and overcoming mental obstetrical. Keller really turned out to be a gentle giant.
This story of a family in peril at the hands of a son spoiled by a weak father is truly heart breaking. To see the pain and damage caused by this selfish young man and no way out for this precious sister that is constantly beaten and maligned is more than enough reason for Keller de Poyer the newly made Lord Carnedd by William Marshall to kick him off of the property than he called home. He considered the castle, his sister's and father as well as everything his own personal property to do with as he pleased and is furious at his father's trading everything as well as his sisters hand in marriage for a piece of land in England. This maneuver by his father ensured this evil seed would not reproduce on his Ancestral home of his forefathers. Gryffird would not take this without a fight to the death. Of course coward that he was it most likely would be someone else's death. His schemes pulling in his only friend to support him in retaking of the castle built on lies cost this friend heavy loses in the lives of members of his clan. He made promises of wealth to lure men to his cause. Keller and the sister Chrystobel were to be married against both of their wills, but little did they know this was their saving grace. She being suspicious of another cruel man and him of a lying woman were both surprised to find neither thing was true. He was honest, gentle and treated her with respect and she was just a wounded scared woman in need of a gentle loving hand. These discoveries turned them towards each other and healed his broken heart opening them both up to love. This beautiful love story in the face of such evil is worth reading and shows good overcoming evil. I truly enjoyed reading their story.
Ngeselin banget. Sumpah
Overall, kisah cinta Keller-Chrystobel manis.
Sir Keller de Poyer has been awarded a castle, title and lands in north Wales. Along with it comes a wife that he's never likely to trust. When William Marshall tells one of his Knights what to do and where to go they go. What he finds when he gets there makes him incredibly angry. It was supposed to be a peaceful transfer.
Lady Chrystobel d'Einen has suffered under the brutal hand of her brother for many years. The man terrifies everyone, even his father. He's not at all happy that his property has been given away. That could prove very dangerous.
This is an action packed medieval romance filled with great characters, many of whom we will meet in other books by this author. The subject matter might be difficult for some people to read because of the abuse our heroine suffers. As usual from this author she takes us right to the heart of every character and involves us in their lives. The Knights are all skilled and the fight scenes very exciting.
OH My!!!!! I laughed and cried and OMG moments !! The bully when he finally gets his and The way he gets it! Priceless! The only part I was kind of upset about and the only reason I didn't get it five stars is because when they added up all the men they had at the castle it was 550 but they only sent out 250 to fake leaving the castle but when the fighting was going on it was like the only guys fighting were the night's like where's the other 300 men it was kind of ridiculous and I love this author and this is the first time that this has happened maybe you can email me and explain to me where the other 300 men were because the bad guys only had about 150 men so what's up! don't get me wrong the ending was amazing and the prologue was even better loved it I cried and laughed this book was so emotionally captivating just like all her books are thank you and God bless your day!
I liked the main characters and their story, but there was a lot I didn't like about the book.
This book needs editing badly. It really bothers me to read a book with many errors. It is jarring and tears me away from being involved in the story and draws my attention to the writer instead.
The other thing I didn't like is that the bad brother just seemed a caricature. He was all bad and no good and no one is like that in real life. It was a little extreme for me.
Lastly, there was a point in the story where someone said "Shut your pie hole!" and that really ruined it for me, once again tearing me away from the story. I laughed out loud and rolled my eyes. Such a modern saying in a book that takes place in the 1100s!
I don't know if I will be reading any more of her books because of all these issues I had with this one book.
Good story which flowed well. I liked the way revenge was played out by the women and not the powerful protective men. Also liked the way the characters intertwined without centralising on just the couple. The reason I didn't give five stars was because I was a little irritated by repetition and the mention of teeth. She had "prominent canines"just got me thinking of vampires! The knight had large hands, meant to scan and see how many times this was mentioned because it has to be over 10. By half way through the book I thought ok, this guy is kinda nice, ok looking, but has freakishly large hands which must not be missed. Also the cracking of knuckles, a real turn off. Overall enjoyed it and read more.
I particularly enjoyed this book because I really wanted to have a happy ending for Keller. He shows us what a lovely man he is in the last book. However, I did think his reaction to Derica being reunited with the husband they all thought was dead, a bit over the top. How could he love her so deeply after such a short period of time and when she is deeply in love with the husband she thinks she has just lost? Anyway, it’s all good as the previous story sets the stage for his true feelings to develop towards the woman he was actually destined to be with. He is rewarded with Nether Castle and a bride for services to William Marshal. Dark forces are afoot at Nether and it is up to Keller to protect everyone from evil. A complex plot evolves with the story. Loved it!
Another winner from Kathryn Le Veque! This story about two Welsh sisters abused by their brother and the English Knight that changes their lives forever is heartfelt and action packed. A plot filled with dynamic characters, brutal violence, intrigue and passion....this novel will keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved the way Le Veque drew me in and made me care so much about her characters. She is a master storyteller and drags me right into the past with her wonderful historical details and descriptions. I felt as if I had a ring side seat to all the drama and became totally engrossed in this amazing tale.
Keller, a famed knight, has been awarded lands, titles, and a bride negotiated by The Marshal. He is still heartbroken over the loss of a previous betrothed and vows to never let anyone else close to him. That was before he me Chrystobel. Chrystobel was raised by her father and abusive brother. Her brother beat her and her sister and her father and had whatever he wanted when he wanted it. He was not happy that his inheritance of the Nether Castle and his sister would be turned over to an English knight. This is a great story from the beginning. Strong characters and I love all the knights in this one. Great read.
The blessed Welsh rain seems to color so much of the book. It is almost a character all by itself! Many battles , skirmishes, sneak attacks are accomplished in the rain. Lots of mud too. Think about how miserable for the soldiers and knights. (knights rust) We see a nasty character as dark as the Welsh downpours. Yet something sweet and nearly miraculous is occurring like the first crocus in Spring. This is color which off sets the darkness in Nether Castle.
The story of Keller and Chrystobel de Poster was so sweet. Keller had been heartbroken when he had become betrothed to another only to be dumped when that lady's supposedly deceased husband turned up alive. When he was gifted with Chrystobel he was afraid to hope for a good outcome but was wonderfully rewarded when he and the Lady Chrystobel fell in love. There was a lot of strife, though, because of terrible family problems at Nether Castle. Thankfully, things worked out.
So much fear in this story! Lady Chrystobel, her little sister Lady Islyn and her father all fear her mad brother who will not give up his quest to destroy his family and regain control over Nether Castle and Sir Keller de Poyer fears heartbreak and must learn to trust his heart and his new wife, Lady Crystobel. The Welsh and the English clash, however, a little ingenuity and a lot of kindness, empathy, patience and Love conquer the fear and hate and bring fresh new beginnings to the de Poyer family of Netherworld!
Lady Chrystobel was the daughter of laird Trevino of Nether Castle. he made a deal with William Wallace to give up his lands and castle and marry his daughter to one of his Knights. Wallace sent Kellan to take over the castle and marry Chrystobel. Chrystobel had a brother Gryffyn who abused her, her sister Izlyn and her father. When Kellan arrives and figures out what is happening he gets very upset and threatens Gryffyn. This story was so interesting, I couldn’t wait to see how it ended.
Like,,,, it wasn’t *bad*, but it wasn’t really doing anything for me 🤔
Honestly, I think the concept was better than the execution. I had high hopes bc I don’t often see romance/historical novels set in Wales, but I was rather disappointed.
It had a really good start—hooked me by the second sentence!—but it went downhill from there. The pace became rather gruelling, and I quickly lost interest.
I may pick it up again if I ever feel the urge, but for now it’s going straight to my DNF list.
Another her great book!! This has a lot of pain and abusive situations. One very evil man is central to this story. The author has also placed many tender moments and special kindnesses within these pages. It’s a beautiful story. Love conquers and righteousness prevails. Our hero overcomes the pain from the loss he suffered the previous book. Finding his perfect match. pamarella PRCS
Another excellent story written by Kathryn Le Veque! Set in Wales it is a story about an English knight coming to take the castle and marriage to the daughter. He finds evil instead in his new wife's brother. I would recommend reading this story to see how it ends .
Every time I read one of Kathryn's books I am trusted back in time to Medieval times. Though they take liberties with history some times it does not take away from the wonderful story. Keller a d Chrystobel's story is one that needed to be told. So happy that Keller finds the love he longed for. But what a way to find it! Enjoy!
I loved this book. It was a really good read. I definitely recommend it. The characters were well developed. The bad guy was insane and out of control. But in the end justice was served for it was well deserved.
4 1/2 Stars**** A bitter knight finds his heart. Given Nether by Sir William Marshall, Sir Keller de Poyer finds terror within a castle. Protecting the woman who becomes his wife and her sister, de Poyer fights to bring light to the castle and finds love. Another GREAT READ from Le Veque.
I was riveted from the first chapter. The interaction of all the characters was absolutely great. I would and have recommended this book and orhers of this author to friends and family.
