Gold Rush Brides: Emmy

Rate this book
When a debutante and a rough and tumble sheriff collide, it's not just bullets that fly, it's sparks!

Emmy Gibson is a spoiled brat of epic proportions. Destitute after her father's passing, she's given one last chance to maintain her lavish lifestyle but she'd rather risk death. Hoping to start a new life, she becomes a mail order bride and traipses off to California, never suspecting she'll soon be staring down the business end of a shotgun.

As the sheriff of a county that's as dangerous as it is beautiful, Mason Wilder has seen just about everything. But all of the drunken prospectors and murderous highwaymen in Gold Country can't prepare him for Emmy. The high-falootin' city girl turns his life upside down when she storms through his door, demanding justice after her stagecoach is robbed.

When he and his posse hit the trail to hunt down the outlaws, Mason thinks he's left the pampered belle behind. Except the darned woman tags along, and he can't decide whether he wants to strangle her or kiss her. Little do they know, there's a bullet out there with Mason's name on it. Will they manage to become more than friends or will the villain succeed in ending their relationship before it has a chance to start?

This was a ridiculous version of a mail order romance. The h was beyond annoying and hateful. I skimmed to get to the predictable end. The characters were unbelievable and the scenarios were unrealistic.

Emmy

With what seems to be a constant internal running dialog, Emmy almost thinks herself into danger before she's finished acting. However, her talk usually gets her there first. With good intentions, she doggedly moves forward but not without mishaps.

Emmy. A pretty good story but you canebayflyer@gmail.com see she added a lot of fluff that didn’t really matter along the way. I really thought she should have ended it before she let Emmy ride out on the stage coach. 4.5

Good book

This was a good book to read, not one you couldn't put down but still good. There is some romance mixed in with some action.

Not bad exactly, but the main female was especially unpleasant initially. Luckily she grew up before I gave upon her.

SPOILERS BELOW!!

As a spoiled city girl, Emmy Gibson is used to the best of everything. When her father dies, she finds it is all a ruse. She has just days to leave her home or marry her father's best friend, a man she considers her uncle. Her only escape is becoming a mail-order bride. Always getting her way she is rudely awakened by her experience. Beginning with a robbery of her stagecoach, then finding out her groom is the culprit.

Sheriff Mason Wilder of Nevada City has been searching for a year to find the murderer of his pregnant wife with no clues. When the latest stagecoach is robbed, they find another star marking the site. It has to be the same gang. But when the mouthy Emmy faints and awakens telling him her new husband is the leader he takes off after them. Emmy needs to get her annulment papers signed and she won't take no for an answer. Needing to go with the sheriff, she follows them and joins them, against the sheriffs orders. Not wanting to help her but also being drawn to her, Mason unwillingly allows her to come along. Through clues from her letters with her outlaw husband, she clues them in to where he is headed.
Emmy discovers on her journey just how spoiled she is and changes along the way. Mason discovers that he has to let the guilt of his wife and unborn child's deaths go to move on with his life. Will they come to find true happiness with each other. This series is a great reflection of how life must have been in the old west days and Cassie captures it beautifully. Eagerly awaiting the next mail order bride and her groom.

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way. All conclusions are my personal opinion.

Emmy was a spoiled young girl. I started to read the book and was sure I was not going to like it. I disliked Emmy. Then the book got good. Emmy grew up. Cassie redeemed her for me. She still had a few moments of tstl but they were over shadowed by humor. The main characters together was fun reading about and I really loved the sheriff. His sadness seemed real and touched my heart. I loved this book.

Sour turns sweet

Emmy is a spoiled brat; Mason is a no-nonsence sheriff. When those two get together it is one heck if a ride. This book has a lot of plot twists but the most shocking comes toward the end. You just don't see it coming. Ms. Hayes tells a great story that has action, arguments, gun fights, and romance with no explicit sex scenes. This is a great book for readers of good, clean historical romance.

The first reaction most have when they see “sweet” in the title is “This is going to be a DULL book”. You will be surprised with Emmy. It is actually a good book. A well written book that is believable. In places it is funny and entertaining. It is somewhat of a mystery. Most of all it is a good story to read after something heavy. If you decide to read it make sure you have enough free time because you will not want to put it down.

For a love story Emmy was good.

I normally read mostly thrillers and mysteries but this afternoon my younger sis recommend Emmy to me and I really enjoyed it for a change. I think most any reader will too.

A Sweet Mail Order Bride

Yes this was a sweet story that told a story about a mail order bride that really grew up during this story. She did not get the young man she thought was hers but oh she got the best of the men and she got love and respect for him and from him.

A good read...

This was a really good story and I especially liked the fact that the author can tell a good story without the need for sex scenes or vulgar language! It was very simplistic and somewhat unrealistic, but I was very entertained.

Enjoyable book

I tried to give this story five stars, but it won't work! The author has done a great job of telling her story. I'm sure you will agree, if you like romance and happy endings.
