Jarl Dragon Heart leaves the Isle of Man to go raiding. Beset by enemies both Viking and Saxon he has to rely on the Ulfheonar and his own skills to see him through the crisis. A harsh winter in the land of Rheged brings him face to face with his old enemy, the Wolf. All the while he is learning about his own ancestor, the Warlord of Rheged. The treachery of other Vikings who try to carve out kingdoms has Dragon Heart caught in the middle of their machinations. The novel concludes with a thrilling raid into the heart of Mercia where treachery nearly ends the life of the enigmatic Dragon Heart.
I was born in 1950 in Lancashire and attended a boy’s grammar school. After qualifying as an English and Drama teacher in 1972, I worked in the North East of England for the next 35 years. During that time I did write, mainly plays, pantos and musicals for the students at the three schools in which I worked.
When I stopped teaching I set up my own consultancy firm and worked as an adviser in schools and colleges in the North East of England. The new Conservative Government ended that avenue of work and in 2010 I found that I had time on my hands; having started work at the age of 15 I found the lack of work not to my liking and used the time to research the Roman invasion of Britain and begin to create a novel. The result was The Sword of Cartimandua.
My decision to begin writing was one of the best I have ever taken.
Here we get to the true Viking Kingdom that does not require a "King", being that it is a name only! The kingdom is lead by Dragon Heart, whose priority is and always been his people's. Another great and well written episode in the saga of "Jarl Dragon Heart", on to book 5.
Griff has written lots of series of books in various periods of history. Roman, Saxon, Norman right through to WW2. This Viking series is probably my favourite however it’s a close run thing as all are excellent. Every subject is well researched and accurately written about.
Jarl Dragon Heart leaves the isle of Man and pursues his destiny in the former kingdom of Rehged and learns a little bit more of his past and ancestors and in the process carves out a viking kingdom in the heart of northern Brittania. Follow along as we see his son Arturus become a man. And see why the Ulfanar are the absolute best warriors in the land.
