I do this to myself, I know Omegaverse is KNOT my jam. However, much like cutting all my hair off or getting bangs, I have to try it every so often just to make sure. Turns out, just like the previously mentioned activities, I have instant regret.

I desire more plot and less, whatever the eff this was....

It's a bit better, but not there yet.

So, I read the first book in this series, and the author missed the mark on it. This one, the writing was a bit better, I didn't feel like I was reading a fanfic. Unfortunately, the plot was poorly planned, and I got whipped lashed with how the main characters acted, especially the FMC and her first love.

This one started out okay but crashed and burned by the end. First, there was some unforgivably stupid behavior from the male characters. And, second, there’s some seriously fucked up shit in the latter half of the book that completely turned me off.


The story opens with a prologue when the heroine, Ruby, is three years old. Her family is just happily hanging out at a playground when their king, Henry, waltzes up and says that he’s decided Ruby will make a great Omega for his then nine-year-old son, Marrock. The parents don’t have any choice but to “agree” but they’re all devastated because Marrock has already proven himself to be a little psycho. He’s already torturing animals, etc. The second Henry walks away, Ruby’s mom begs her alpha, Benjamin, not to let this happen. He assures her that he’ll find a way to protect their daughter. Then we flash to years later and Benjamin is striking a deal with Wayne, the leader of a pack, saying he’ll invest in Wayne’s business if he’ll agree to take Ruby as his pack’s Omega.

Chapter 1 picks up twenty years later. Benjamin has never told Ruby, or anyone else, that he struck the deal with Wayne’s pack and she’s never met them. Ruby also doesn’t know that she’s “betrothed” to Marrock. Shortly before her 23rd birthday, however, her dad tells her about Wayne’s pack and that they’re coming to dinner that night.

Complicating things is Jasper. He’s a ranch hand at the family ranch and he and Ruby have flirted and danced around their attraction for years. They’ve never kissed or even spoken their feelings aloud, but everyone seems to know how they feel.

Ruby has a close friend named Carmen, who is the heroine of the next book. Carmen comes over and helps Ruby get dressed to meet Wayne’s pack. Unfortunately, Carmen talks to Jasper afterward and accidentally spills the beans on the open secret that Ruby likes him. This, apparently, gives him the push he needs to admit that he’s in love with her as well. So, he goes up to the house to jealously stare at her through the window while she’s chatting with Wayne’s pack. This makes Ruby uncomfortable because she’s feeling very aroused being around all these alphas, but she feels like she’s betraying Jasper by considering Wayne’s pack at all, even though she and Jasper haven’t made any commitment to each other.

Afterward, she goes outside to talk to him and he immediately kisses her for the first time. He says he loves her and they should run away together. Ruby is hesitant. She thinks she loves him, but she’s an Omega. That means she’s going to go into heat at some point and will need to be knotted over and over again or she’ll die. She’s never experienced a heat before, but she’s always been told that it takes an entire pack to see an Omega through it. And Jasper absolutely REFUSES to be in a pack. He sees himself as a lone wolf, now and forever.

But, childishly in love, she allows herself to be talked into running away with him. He takes her out of Henry’s compound and into the human world. There they get a seedy motel because Jasper is basically broke. On their first night alone together, he decrees that they won’t have sex. Ruby is a virgin still and he’s not in a hurry to trigger her heat while they’re in such a precarious situation.

But, these two lovebirds aren’t going to just go to sleep so he goes down on her and then coaches her through getting him off. Just as she’s falling asleep, he does this weird thing that happens again and again throughout the book. He shoves his dick down her throat and she basically suckles at it like a baby bottle until she falls asleep. It was weird.

The next day, Ruby goes into heat. She’s not happy about it because she doesn’t want to get pregnant so she asks if they can try using a toy to sate her heat and Jasper agrees to try. Next chapter opens with Ruby on the bed, in an agony of unfulfilled heat because the toy isn’t getting the job done. Jasper finally says, “screw it” and has sex with her. They proceed to have sex multiple times throughout the night to beat back her heat.

Next morning, Ruby wakes up and Jasper is gone. He only left to get ice, apparently because he thinks physically cooling her down would help ease her heat? Which is stupid logic but it especially makes no sense that he would make this little excursion WHILE SHE WAS ASLEEP, AND NOT EVEN LEAVE HER A NOTE. He knows that when she wakes up, she’ll be in need of knotting again, and if she doesn’t get what she needs right away, the pain will start to set in. So, why wouldn’t he just wait until she woke up, knot her, and THEN go get ice, when she’d been freshly sated and, most of all, KNEW WHERE HE FUCKING WAS AND THAT HE’D BE RIGHT BACK?

The only answer to that question is that we wouldn’t have a book if he didn’t act like an idiot in this part. So, sure enough, Ruby wakes up and is quickly in agony. She’s terrified and desperate and quickly delirious with fear and pain. So, she runs from the motel room.

Meanwhile, Wayne and his pack have been called by Benjamin. He finally explains that Ruby is promised to Marrock and she’s in very real danger out there. Wayne is kind of pissed that Benjamin got his pack embroiled in a conspiracy to cross their king, but he does feel a sense of duty to go find Ruby, so he and his pack set out and find her collapsed on the side of the road crying and nearing death.

Wayne has sex with her immediately, right there on the side of the road. They’ve just finished up and Wayne is firmly knotted to her when Jasper turns up. He’s wildly jealous that Ruby is knotted to another alpha and looks at her accusingly. But she quickly turns the tables on him by blasting him for leaving her alone. She says she doesn’t trust him to be able to handle her heat on his own.

Jasper is still pretty pissed but reluctantly goes with them to a hotel. He insists on staying with Ruby, but he doesn’t have sex with her again during her heat. He just sits there watching Wayne’s pack fuck her. It was pretty weird, honestly. But, as jealous as Jasper is, he keeps getting turned on by the sight of these other alphas fucking Ruby and one night after they’ve all fucked themselves to sleep, Jasper shoves his dick down her throat again, so she can do that baby bottle suckling thing to him.

Next morning, Jasper is gone, again without leaving a note. Ruby takes this to mean he can’t be trusted. When he comes back, he sees Ruby and Wayne’s pack having dinner at a restaurant and gets his feelings hurt. They’re “just” supposed to be helping her with her heat. She doesn’t need to be socializing with them. He storms in and they have another argument. She’s mad that he abandoned her again, he’s mad because he claims he was giving her space because she was so conflicted about whether to go back to him or stay with Wayne’s pack once her heat passed.

Eventually, her heat is over and they all go back to her parents’ house. Ruby is still torn about what to do. Wayne’s pack has been pretty understanding about her dilemma, all things considered. One of them even suggested Jasper just join their pack, so Ruby wouldn’t have to choose, but Jasper immediately shut down that idea. He doesn’t take orders from anyone!

The second they make it back to her family’s ranch, Ruby’s father fires Jasper. Jasper then immediately turns to Ruby and says he’s breaking up with her. She should just go and be Wayne’s pack’s Omega. It was very abrupt and he really comes across as a complete douchebag with how callously he just tells her to go be with these other alphas like it was all the same to him.

Ruby is heartbroken and also not completely onboard with the idea of belonging to Wayne’s pack forever. They’re nice enough, but she barely knows them. But she doesn’t really have a choice. She could already be pregnant and she definitely does NOT want to risk going into heat again and not having a pack to deal with it. Also, when she talks to Carmen about her feelings, Carmen (rightfully) points out that, if Jasper REALLY loved her, he would have done anything to be with her, including join Wayne’s pack. The fact that he prioritized “being his own man” over staying with her just meant he didn’t really love her.

With that sad truth ringing in her ears, Ruby dejectedly goes home with Wayne’s pack. She asks them to be patient with her, as she’s grieving the death of her love for Jasper, and, once again, they’re unbelievably understanding about it. And they settle in to a nice cozy life of having lots of sex together. Before long, Ruby comes up pregnant. She isn’t thrilled about it but there’s nothing she can do.

Then the book skips forward nine months. We come in on Ruby as big as a house and with Rufus. He rails her and then they go to Wayne’s office. On the way there, Ruby is thinking about how her life with the men is good, but she’s upset that Wayne hasn’t said he loves her and hasn’t suggested marking her yet. Rufus and Davey, on the other hand, have already declared their love for her.

Then they walk into Wayne’s office and there’s Jasper. Apparently, Wayne’s construction firm is just in SUCH desperate need of house painters that he FUCKING CALLED JASPER and offered him a job. Are you fucking kidding me? No, I’m sorry, but FUCKING NO. I just don’t believe Wayne would do this. It took Ruby months to get over her heartache of Jasper leaving. Truth be told, she’s STILL not over it. Wayne would NOT bring Jasper back into their lives just because they needed fucking house painters. He could hire literally anyone else for that job. And it’s not like Jasper has some specialize skills in the area of house painting anyway. He’s been working as a ranch hand for the last decade. This is just complete bullshit.

So, surprise, surprise, Ruby has lots of feelings about seeing Jasper again and asks Rufus to leave her alone so she can think as she walks home. Which he stupidly does, thereby giving Marrock the perfect opportunity to kidnap her. Marrock takes her to a random cabin in the woods with just a moldy mattress for a bed (but somehow working TV…). Once there, he goes on about how she’s his one true love and they’re meant to be together. He then proceeds to go down on her and she actually orgasms from his ministrations. Which is pretty fucked up, but Omega hormones just can’t be fought, apparently.

Marrock also says that he’s going to kill her baby as soon as it’s born because he’s a psycho. Ruby, of course, is desperate to find a way to protect her baby but, at nine months pregnant, she’s at a serious disadvantage against a full-grown alpha. She’s with Marrock for a couple of days and he forces her to orgasm on at least one other occasion. Then Ruby goes into labor. She tries to hide it, but the contractions get too strong and Marrock comes in, very excited that he can get on with killing the newborn.

Meanwhile, Wayne, Jasper, and the others have been searching for Ruby. They wasted tons of time looking on their own before finally letting her father know what happened. He’s royally pissed at Wayne for not marking Ruby which would have made it so Marrock COULDN’T claim her. Jasper is also pissed because he says he bowed out specifically so that Wayne’s pack could protect her and they failed to do that. Then he officially joins Wayne’s pack. They make it to the cabin just in time to intervene before Ruby finishes delivering the baby.

Strangely, though, they only beat Marrock up and tie him to a tree rather than killing him. Which was pretty stupid and made them come across as weak. I mean, they didn’t even ask Ruby what Marrock had done to her while he had her. Like, aren’t they worried that he’d raped her? Don’t they care? All through the rest of the book, the fact that Marrock sexually assaulted Ruby is NEVER discussed. She never thinks about it again, they never discuss it on-page, and she has absolutely NO hesitation about having sex with her pack afterward.

Is this part of the Omegaverse mythos that’s missing due to the lack of world building? Like, do they believe that you physically CAN’T rape an Omega because her hormones will always force her to enjoy it regardless? It was really bizarre. Anyway, the day is saved and they go back home with their newborn daughter, Ella. Strangely, they never tell us whether Ella is an Omega or a Beta, which I thought was weird.

Five months pass and then Ruby and the pack go out to dinner where the men propose to her and she accepts. Unfortunately, Ruby then see’s Henry at the restaurant and decides to storm over and yell at her king for his son kidnapping her. The men just stand awkwardly by, trying not to make Henry mad because, obviously, he’s not going to punish Marrock so no good can come from this little outburst. Eventually, they manage to drag Ruby away to a hotel room.

This is when Wayne finally deigns to mention that Henry was the one who had decreed that Ruby belonged to Marrock in the first place. Something NO ONE had told her up to this point. She’s incensed that everyone kept this from her, and that the men left Marrock alive when they should have known that he would never stop coming after her. Aaaaaaaand the men sexually assault and humiliate her.

Yeah. First Jasper just walks up and shoves his dick down her throat to get her to shut up. Then he says he’s brought adult diapers (wtf??) and Wayne forcibly puts the diaper on Ruby while Jasper continues to orally rape her. All while telling her that if she’s going to “act like a baby” then they’ll treat her like one.

After they’re done assaulting her, they fall asleep and she wriggles out and tears off the diaper, then runs to one of the other rooms where Davey and Rufus are staying. She sleeps with them that night. In the morning, Wayne gets up and says she “disobeyed her alpha” both by yelling at him the night before, and by taking the diaper off without his permission, and that she needs to be taught a lesson. So, he spanks her in front of the other men until she apologizes to him.

WHAT. THE. FUCK. This whole scene was just so royally fucked up. She has every right to be pissed off that all the men in her life have been lying to her since she was three years old. She has every right to be upset that they didn’t take steps to permanently protect her from the psycho THAT THEY FUCKING KNOW WILL COME AFTER HER AGAIN, and who fucking SEXUALLY ASSAULTED her. But their response to this is to sexually assault her themselves??? What the fuck! And the diaper shit was just fucking bizarre. It comes completely out of nowhere, and is NEVER mentioned again. And for Ruby to actually be the one who ended up apologizing in this situation? That’s just straight up toxic.

Then, FIVE MONTHS PASS, and it’s suddenly their wedding day. Yeah, we went directly from her pack assaulting and humiliating her, to her marrying them. I can’t even, with this book. And guess what? THEY STILL HAVEN’T MARKED HER. Even though they had a close call with Marrock the last time he kidnapped her, and we’ve established that he will 100% come after her again, they STILL haven’t taken the ONE STEP that would permanently protect her. This is just unforgivably stupid.

So, surprise, surprise, he kidnaps her AGAIN. And she has to be rescued, AGAIN. This time Wayne finds her right after Marrock has tied her to the bed, preparing to assault her again. Only Wayne stupidly just walks right in and allows Marrock to brain him with a hammer, then tie him up. Marrock says he’s going to force Wayne to watch while he “pleasures” Ruby, then marks her, with Wayne just feet away and unable to stop him. And only NOW does Wayne realize that it was completely idiotic for him to have not marked Ruby all this time. So, he does his best to attack Marrock, even tied up, until Marrock just stabs him in the chest. Then the rest of the pack, plus the police, storm in and save the day.

As Wayne is bleeding out, he tells Ruby he loves her and then bites her neck, officially marking her. He also tells Jasper that he wants him to take over as alpha of the pack. Which is kind of a raw deal for Davy and Rufus since they’ve been part of Wayne’s pack for years and Jasper just joined, reluctantly, a few months ago. But, anyway, Wayne is taken to the hospital and survives.

While they’re all standing there at Wayne’s bedside, shy, gentle Davey, of all people, becomes enraged that Marrock nearly killed their alpha and has kidnapped their Omega, twice, and had planned to kill their baby…and he’s already out of jail because his father is the king. So, Davey slips out and goes to Marrock’s cabin to kill him. Rufus arrives seconds later, saying he’s not going to be left out of this event. Together they attack Marrock and just as they’re about to deliver the killing blow, Ruby’s mother comes out of nowhere and stabs him in the heart. Then they cover him in debris and go home, vowing to never speak of what they’ve done.

As soon as Wayne gets out of the hospital, they have a quickie wedding where they all mark Ruby, and then fly to the Delta Island where Omegas are treasured and Henry is seen as a criminal. HEA.

Overall, things fell apart a bit by the end. It was idiotic that Wayne’s pack left it SO late before marking Ruby when they knew that put her at risk. It was also idiotic that they kept letting Marrock live when they knew he’d just keep coming for her.

And I fucking HATED that scene in the hotel room. I hated how toxic Jasper and Wayne suddenly acted in that scene. It was so out of character for them, especially Wayne. I also didn’t buy that they were suddenly such great friends that Wayne would hand the pack over to Jasper, nor that he’d called Jasper back for the house painting thing. He’d been irritated that Ruby was so in love with Jasper in the beginning because it meant she couldn’t fully commit to him and his pack.

The only thing I DID like about the ending was Davey and Rufus stepping up to kill Marrock. It needed to be done, and so often in these RH books, the non-main alphas get kind of shunted to the side and don’t get to do anything cool. So, I liked that they just handled things. But that meant that I ended up feeling like Davey was the real hero of this story. He’d been loving and supportive of Ruby all along, and he did what needed to be done to protect their family while Wayne and Jasper were too busy being full of themselves.

This was not good. In fact it was downright bad. I should have just DNF'd it, but I have never done that and I thought maybe I could suffer through. Which I did, but I regret it. There was not a single moment of this book that I enjoyed. I don't like posting these types of reviews, but I stand by everything I said in this. It has nothing to do with omegaverse, because there are truly amazing ones out there. This one is just everything that is cringey about the omegaverse all mixed into one.

This was a good reverse harem pack book. she was arranged to join a pack but she doesn’t know them or want them, but she wants her friend, so they run away. The problem is in this world when omega go into heats one alpha is not enough to satisfy and she will die. I liked the book and the peril but there were a few things I wish I knew like the baby roll play/ ageplay stuff. Jasper is a stupid mf, and he really made me mad during the book with his decisions, but he turned out okay. I would consider this book mostly smut and relationship stuff, the actually plot took a back seat to all the characters and there’s pregnancy stuff in the book. 4 out of 5 stars, it was really good, and the characters were the part I liked.

First, I really don't like love triangles. (In this case I'm considering the pack as one entity.

Next, Ruby is my least favorite type of h. She's not only immature, she's entirely self-centered. She's also a wimp. Yuck. I just don't think she deserves a HEA.

Also, this first half of the book is 99% sex, and 1% plot. I actually prefer the opposite ratio.

An interesting story

This was an interesting story, with a quite flowing, fast-pacing plot and a great writing style. There were many things happening within the story line, although I must admit that the main focus was on the intimate moments of the MCs – which was not a bad thing per se, but the story could focus a touch more on the other things plot wise as well.

That being said, I liked both Ruby, and all her men in the Alpha pack (Wayne, Davy, Rufus, Jasper). They all have their strong traits and they complement each other well, although the road to HEA is a bit rocky and they all need to do a lot of self-development to get to the desired point as well as deal with all the external threats. Ruby comes a bit self-centered, but it is understandable to a point, as she tries hard to break the chains of her father’s decisions and pave her own path in life. I also loved to hate the villain of the story, Marrok.

All in all, it was a satisfying read that I certainly recommend. 4 stars.

I was quite dissapointed with Ruby's story. She ended up being a stupid, entitled, and self centered character. First of all, she runs away with Jasper but tries to use her dad's credit card but gets upset that he blocked the card, smh.

And then she gets mad at Jasper for "abandoning" her and runs to Wayne and his packmates to help her with her heat. She basically ignored Jasper but gets mad at him again when he distanced himself and blamed him for their fallout. Even when Jasper explained himself and said she could've waited for him, she still only saw him in the wrong. The other alphas were pricks and very condescending towards Jasper, too. Jasper honestly deserved better.

Overall, I didn't feel like was there was much depth in Ruby's relationship with Wayne, Rufus, and Davy. There was also a bit too much time jump in the story and the characters were under developed.

On the side note, I kind of felt bad for Marrok and what happened to him as a child. He could've probably turned out differently if there were better adults in his life.

Was this written as a masterpiece? No. Was there a lot of plot? Also no. But was there a lot of knotting and spice? Heck yeah!

The most annoying part of this book was that I didn't like the fmc Ruby. I also didn't like the miscommunication between Ruby and Jasper. I feel like all their problems would've been solved if she just let him speak, and if he would've been a true Alpha and made her listen. Ya know? I did love Wayne, Rufus and Davy. They seemed more "experienced" at being Alphas.

Check the trigger warnings or whatever you want to call it in the beginning for the extra spice you'll get in this book.

3.75. Loved that book. It wasn’t my favorite book of all times, but it wasn’t my least favorite either.
It was very interesting how they all met. They all met because she was on the run with Jasper and she was in heat. Jasper had went out to get ice while she was sleeping. When she woke up, she was hurting, but couldn’t find him, so she went outside. It got to the point where she was laying on the side of the road. Wayne and the other guys found her. Wayne knotted her, then Jasper got all protective.
Loved Wayne. He was sweet. He had 2 sides, I take care of u side and I boss u around and u do as I say.
Loved the rest of the guys too

I struggled with this book a bit to be honest. I understood trying to mate Ruby (FMC) off to another pack to protect her from being mated to abusive - Marrok. My problem was I just couldn't relate to Ruby. The relationship she had with Jasper just annoyed me. The wants him then she didn't just wasn't for me. I did like Rufus, Wayne and Davy though but their relationship with Ruby just seemed based purely on the physical and not anything deeper. As there was plenty of naughtiness from start to finish. Not a bad read though.

So the first half of this book really had me invested and intrigued.
The second half though was a little bit all over the place and a little bit much for me .
I’ll elaborate it was like the alpha’s kept letting the FMC GET INTO TROUBLE AND GET KIDNAPPED NOT ONCE BUT TWICE AND THE SAME EXACT WAY LIKE WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU DOING?
This authors books, obviously have a great amount of spice to it like at least every chapter .
For me though, the second half just ruined it .

Communication lack again and cause there to be trouble for the characters I also feel that story line was strong but ruby just couldn't let go of her need for control and master loved her spite everything plus Wayne and his group started out just as a business deal with her father but you can see the connections grow also I feel if she just would of been told the truth it could of avoided slot of trouble for everyone

A fast, action-packed, and spice-packed story. Ruby, the omega fmc, has been promised to the Alphas of the Crawford Pack, but she has feelings for the lone Alpha who is also a rancher, Jasper. They run away together, but when Ruby goes into heat, Jasper isn't enough to satisfy her so she runs. Straight to the Crawford Pack Alphas who have been waiting. this is why i love books written by this author ya’ll🩷🩷(i’ve only read two including this but whatever😂 still love them nonetheless) they’re always so fast paced but like not in a bad way, it’s a good way. it’s like everything you want to read is put into this book for you and it’s just such an easy read. there’s a mix of drama, spice, romance and honestly i love this book…idk what else to say but read it😭🩷 anyways i rate this 4⭐️!

Ruby was promised to Marrok when she was only a baby.
Her fathers then promised her to the Crawford pack to protect her.
But she’s in love with Jasper!
This story was full of twists and turns!
I loved the love between Jasper & Ruby. I also loved watching the Crawford pack fall in love with her!
Marrok, despite his best efforts gets what he deserves! His father is a POS for even thinking that his crazy son deserved sweet sweet Ruby!

Not a fan

I loved the other books by Sparks but unfortunately I did not finish this one. There was a LOT of smut and for me personally some activities that just turned me off. Nothing against those kind of kinks but they just aren't for me. The story moved very quickly, kinda rushed feeling. Multiple time skips, a whole year goes by and you don't see how the relationships evolve or anything like that. Just wasn't a fan of this one.

I should have stopped reading when she was kidnapped. The whole mood of that interaction was so off putting and terribly written.

DNF from the diaper scene instantly. What the actual….that came completely out of left field and turned me away from the series completely. Ruined it for me.

The writing is just not good coupled with the smut being confusing and ill paced at times made me refuse to finish it.

dull and lifeless

I had such high hopes for the second book in this series but sheeeesh. The whole story was so lifeless. There was no believable chemistry in this book. I kept pushing to hope it would get better but eventually DNF’d at 95%. Lots of spicy scenes but zero substance. I hate leaving bad reviews but this was awful

So I read the first book and it was very cute but Layla outdid herself with this one it was everything I wanted and more! Right as I thought I could guess what was going to happen something completely different happened it wasn’t predictable and was definitely a roller coaster of emotions but I loved it all super excited for Camren’s story

Promised ToThe Alphas is book two in the series Dawn of The Alphas by author Layla Sparks. This is a bit dark - some serious issues going on in this one- lots of secrets. Doesn’t make things easy for the main characters- it’s a longer road to get where they need to be for all to be safe. Lots of spice- that adds to the flavor.

Es tut mir leid, aber das war nichts.
Normalerweise mag ich ja die Grundideen von Layla Sparks Geschichten und kritisiere immer nur, dass sie sich zu sehr auf den Part der körperlichen Vereinigung konzentriert und dadurch den grundsätzlich guten Plot sowie den Charakteren zu wenig Raum lässt. Mit diesem Buch aber konnte ich leider so gar nichts anfangen. Weder die Geschichte von Ruby, Wayne, Rufus, Davy und Jasper noch die Charaktere haben hier etwas in mir ausgelöst oder berührt. Auch Marrok war in seiner Rolle als Bösewicht ziemlich schwach unterwegs und nichtssagend, beinahe fast schon mehr bemitleidenswert als böse.
Eigentlich wollte ich in dieser Reihe jetzt nicht mehr weiterlesen, aber dieses Buch hat mich zumindest total neugierig auf den nächsten Band gemacht, in welchem es scheinbar um die Geschichte von Ruby’s bester Freundin Carmen geht.

The writing was definitely better in this book compared to the first installment leaving me eager enough to continue reading. However I was still left feeling disappointed. I absolutely despise jasper lowk I hate him so bad. I enjoyed this book more than its predecessor so with this in mind I am intrigued as to what the next installment will bring.
