Twenty-three year old Solee loves her job dancing at Tommy’s Gentleman’s Club. She loves the lights, the stage, the eyes watching her, but what she loves most is the satisfaction she feels when she imagines her dead mother’s disapproval. Before she died, Solee’s mother was the director of an underground domestic violence shelter. Growing up Solee swore she’d never end up like the abused women her mother took in but when she decides to help a coworker (whose voice brought her to tears) pursue a singing career, Solee sets off a chain of events that force her into a violent relationship with a famous rapper. Now, in order to survive, Solee must remember that once her mother killed a man and unless she wants to end up dead at the hands of a lover she might have to do the same.
LOVE YOU MOORE is a novel that examines domestic violence in a realistic way. It’s a novel that doesn’t sugar coat the bitter truths women have always been forced to swallow in silence. If you’re a person who knows someone, or is that someone, who has ever experienced intimate partner abuse this novel is a must read for you! It’s a novel you’ll want to discuss with your daughter (if you have one) your mother (if you talk) and your grandmother (if she’s still alive.)
This book is not my usual genre but I found this creator on TikTok and she talks about her own story dealing with mental illness and her family dynamic that drew me in. This book is domestic abuse and the emotional attachment to the abuser and Solee the main characters disdain for victims although she herself becomes one. It was a quick read and never had a dull moment.
I am having to take a moment to digest and let the story settle. It is having that book hangover effect on me. Full of so much love, friendship, hate, struggles, angist, and hope. The story took me to a place I’ve never been (domestic violence ) never observed firsthand. Rolon was able to bring it to life for me, really made me care and want to do something. Want to help… this was a quick read as I was not able to put it down. I was riveted and the world just fell away around me. I really hope to see more from this author. Brava Carmen Rolon!!
