Chasing the Horizon

Rate this book
A miracle pregnancy. A fractured father-daughter bond. A single moment that threatens to unravel everything.

At forty-two, Valerie Sutton has finally found calm after the storm. Reunited with her husband Alex, expecting the baby she thought she'd never have, and leaving behind the chaos of her past, she’s ready to embrace a more hopeful future.

With cautious optimism, Valerie begins collaborating with her father, Victor Sutton—a world-renowned psychiatrist known for helping others—on a long-awaited book about healing after trauma. It's meant to be their shared redemption story. Around them, Valerie's mother Esme and the rest of the family begin building the foundation for a new beginning.

For a moment, they can all breathe. They celebrate the holidays. They find joy.

But peace doesn’t come easily in the Sutton family. Beneath Victor’s public persona lies a man still unable to confront the emotional wreckage he helped create. Unspoken pain bubbles back to the surface, pushing Valerie and Victor’s already-tenuous relationship to its limits. As Valerie grapples with the uncertainty of motherhood, Victor must face something he’s never dared to his need for help and the role he’s played in breaking the people he loves.

Then, on a harrowing June night, a violent car crash shatters everything. Valerie’s life—and the life of her unborn child—hang in the balance.

It's a stirring, emotional novel about the courage it takes to forgive, the strength required to start over, and the unbreakable ties that can survive even the darkest of seasons. For Valerie and Victor, the question isn’t just whether they can heal—but whether they’re brave enough to try.

Dive into book seven of The Sutton Book Club series, which digs into the heart and soul of the Sutton family, the power of truth and love, and the complex nature of human relationships.

There’s something about the Sutton family that seems to aggravate me to no end…and I’m pretty sure it’s Victor! He’s so incredibly arrogant all the time…and his behavior drives me nuts! Katie Winters did a great job in handling Victor in Chasing the Horizon—made him much more humble and we learned so many “secrets” about not only Victor but the family as a whole.

This book had a solid storyline; the characters were both familiar to us yet somewhat different from the norm. The amazing thing was the plot—it had twists and turns that really kept throwing you off track and kept you guessing about what surprises came next. As with most of these books, there is no HEA…but there is always hope!

Chasing the Horizon is a good solid examination of how Victor Sutton hopes to make things right with his estranged
family. This one belongs on your TBR list for sure! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and found it to be very good.)

Chasing the Horizon deals with the darkness of the human spirit. Renowned psychiatrist Victor Sutton realizes he needs help. He has caused many problems for his family in the past and now hopes to become a valued part of his family again. This book also highlights Valerie's reconnection with her father as they write a book together and her worries about her pregnancy. Despite so much sadness, there is still the element of hope in the family. I especially liked Victor's connection to orphan Kade and how this plot line revealed Victor's competence as a "helper". All in all, one can't exist without the support of family.

Broken relationships are hard to mend as the Sutton family is finding out. Daughter Valerie has lots of struggles, forgiving her father Victor, writing a book with him, and wanting to be a mother

Esme has struggled to convince Victor to go to couples therapy

Just went it seems Valerie’s Dreams will come true, tragedy strikes. Her husband Alex, struggles to hole everything together

Can the family heal and forgive? How will a young orphan boy, Kade change the family dynamics?

Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion.

Seems like the Suttons take one step forward and two steps back on their relationships. Victor and Valerie struggle to find their way through their book, but circumstances interrupt their bonding. Valerie and Alex await their baby’s arrival. They say a doctor is the worst patient and Victor proves that again. Will he find his peace and release his guilt for past transgressions? This book will take you through the process and out the other side of the Sutton drama. ❤️❤️

Chasing the Horizon is book 7 in the Sutton Book Club series by Katie Winters

Valerie‘s relationship with her father has been tenuous at best, she is working with her father, Victor on a book of healing after trauma. Also, she’s reconciled with her husband, and they are expecting…What happens next is redemption, unspoken pain, emotional baggage, more trauma, forgiveness and healing.

I voluntarily read a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I always love Katie winters books. This is all about the Sutton family. But specifically focuses on Victoria and Valerie. Victor has to decide if he can open up and review his past struggles in order to move forward with Esme. Valerie is pregnant and so anxious but trying to write the book with her father. Then there is an accident and an 11yp boy who helps the family. Really liked this story and this family.

Chasing the Horizon

I'm glad you brought the other sisters back. I missed them. Its amazing that Dr Sutton was so good to others but not to his own family. He has a lot of learning to do. I'm obviously glad Valerie survived.
