These books get worse and worse as you go. Only bothering to read these final ones to meet my Goodreads challenge for the year since I can knock them out quickly. I cannot believe the publisher continues to put out this garbage - a third grader can edit better than the editors that are actually getting paid. My mind is numb from reading the same language over and over and over. This 2 star rating is generous.
I'm half interested in these desert MacGils, and half angry that they are MacGils. Half angry that these MacGils live on the Ridge while the others lived in the Ring. Half angry that Argon's brother is named Ragon. That Mycoples' baby is Lycoples. Why does everything have a duplicate? Why is Volusia so powerful that Argon/Ragon fear her, and WHY DOES NO ONE EVER GET MARRIED??? Take 15 minutes, say your vows, BE DONE. Its honestly not that hard.

The content of the books is really interesting but as I said in previous reviews, we desperately need an editor. I am on to the last of the books, so the series has been interesting and kept my attention. However, the errors in the books seem to be more glaring as I go. Just not used to the quality in most books I read.
I am so close to finishing this horrid series. It is most definitely a hate read/listen. But things are still so up in the air that I'm not sure how it's all going to be fixed in the final two books because everyone is still in danger. This series should be good, but it's like every bad thing that can happen is happening and has been happening for 15 straight books. Also, the author is very repetitive with the phrases they use which is annoying. When I am done with this series I will not read any more works by this author.
The series expands on additional characters and I wonder if it will all make sense in the end...is there an end?
I have the bundle, 13, 14, 15, so this is just a short review.
The characters are intriguing and well-developed, honour is all that matters and it is imaginative, though needs editing to smooth out the repetition, errors and typos.
I guess my ratings are higher than others due to the fact that I "listen" to the books as opposed to reading them. It does seem to make a huge difference!
Morgan Rice continues to write with an excellent economy of words which create a non-stop pace of events such that it leaves you wanting (that is, in the positive way and not an unfulfilled way) when unexpectedly you come across the final page of each new installment of the story. Some stories we remember because they expose in such myriad detail the laws of the author's fantastical world that you can't help becoming a part of the story. Other good authors present such a breathtaking exposė of events that you're drawn to experience the story of each character's life throughout the story as a whole. I firmly believe that it's not for readers to dictate which style is better, it's instead for readers to sit back and enjoy each for its own merits. Both styles are memorable, the former leaving you with a complete concept of life in an other worldly potential, the latter, a bunch of concepts of each experience of the differing characters lives. One benefit of the latter being it can appeal to the younger and the more casual reader's style whilst still offering fulfillment for the avid and the more accomplished reader's needs; the former undoubtedly has much to offer, but it's often only the more accomplished reader that has the skill and experience to read the whole of the saga. In my experience both styles have their place in the genres of fiction, but it's not until you've indulged in a fair chunk of the latter that you are ready for tackling the former.
In this episode Morgan continues this very entertaining saga. Thor continues his search for Guwayne while Darius has to fight for survival at the Volusia arena, for entertainment of the empire population of the city. Gwendolyn finds the Second Ring, but loses most of her people on internal conflicts. Erec and Alistar struggle to escape the Empire fleet and at the end they receive an unexpected help. Godfrey, as usual, is in trouble, but also receive a help after escaping prison with his friends and revenging the betrayal of dome finisan authorities. And Volusia is in the capital of the Empire, defying everyone in a trial to become the Supreme Empress of the Empire. Packed with action, this book will keep you entertained for hours. And there is not an idle moment until you turn the last page! Get ready for another very entertaining episode of this incredible story. You will not get tired of following Thor, Gwendolyn and all our heroes in this new episode. Just be aware that in order to savor every moment of this episode, I recommend that you start reading from the first episode to better understand the dynamics among the characters, as well as have a full idea on the environment of the story.
Not a stand alone book, part of a series and should be read in sequential order...worth the read! I just could not put it down. Some days i read for 8 hours straight. What a great fantasy ride. So much is happening in these books but the author writes it so it is easy to follow, like several little stories happening in one book. The characters I found to visualize, like and or dislike quickly. Descriptions were intense and in depth enough to make me feel as I were there in the story as a character myself.
If you like action, romance, fantasy, magic, castles, knights, battles of good and evil and valor then you will love this series. There is gruesome killing but the author does not go into a deep description and make it gory. There is great love and romance but nothing even pg rated. Lots of fantasy but not to extravagant. It amazes me how creative this author is and I constantly wondered "what in the world will happen next?".
To me a perfect story, a perfect read, and i think it would make a great movie! Reminded me a bit of the "Lord of the Rings. I would highly recommend this series and this author to anyone that even considers these mixed genres.
This series is 15 books long and counting, and the story is more complex than ever. Rice does a great job of developing old characters and introducing new ones. A dream of mortals is no exception. This particular book is centred around Thor, Gwen, Darius and Volussia. As usual, the book is easy to read with short chapters and a fast pace. The best thing about this series is the fact that it caters to both adults and youth. I suggested that my son read the books after I finished the first two in the series, and he loves them. A dream of mortals strikes me as a book that is setting up the series for some major twists and surprises. The story does not progress very far, but many loose ends from book 14 are tied up. Overall, this book is what you would come to expect of a sorcerer's ring instalment. I read it in a day and cannot wait for book 16.
I downloaded the first book in this series as it was free and I love fantasy stories - knights, princesses, dragons, magic swords, oh my! - and as a disabled person, I do A LOT of reading. I have to say, it's not the best edited works I've ever read, but it isn't the worst either! (In fact, I would happily give them all 5*'s if not for the typos and mis-placed words) I was sucked in to the story of Thor, Gwendolyn and the other inhabitants of The Ring almost IMMEDIATELY, and as soon as I was done with the first book I downloaded the second and just kept on reading! Now I've read all of the books published so far, and I NEED MORE! Happily the author seems to publish them quite often, unlike my other favourite authors who only publish once a year (that's FAR too long to wait, IMHO!!) so hopefully I won't be waiting long...!
In this book most of the characters are fighting for their freedom whether it be from their known enemies, magic or the elements. Characters we've gotten to know have been killed in battle while others have been saved from death through various means. We find the main characters are still seeking each other and their baby. The book ends with a foretold destruction on the horizon. As you can tell I don't do spoilers, I try to give you just enough to make you want to get the book to find out what the heck I'm talking about. Author Morgan Rice still knows how to write a story with impossible scenarios but still making it work. Now I have to get the next book to see what's coming over that darn horizon. If you enjoying reading about overcoming impossible odds, undying loyalty, and the powers of love and magic this book is for you.
